5+ reasons we are moving to Johannesburg

You forgot thee most important reason for moving to South Africa: You will not find any country where you can walk up to any stranger and just trike up a conversation. I had a friend from Australia over and after one day she said to me: I am amazed that you know soo many people in your city, because where ever you go, it seems like you all know one another. My answer was just: Nope I don’t know any of them, but this is how we do it in South Africa. It is rude not to greet people and be friendly and besides you can end up meeting people you would never do other wise. My number one reason for staying right here, even if I am in the minority😁 I also think Johannesburg is a place where you would just fit right in, no
    matter where you choose to
live. I want to be the first person to welcome you to South Africa and congratulate you on doing your DD very well and you will never regret moving here or want to move back to USA. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

I'm South African living in New Zealand with family, been here over 2years and we cannot really fit in the culture, and also got to understand the importance of our kids going to school with people like them. So because of that and a few other reasons we planning on coming back home next year.

I am South African and the only problem I have with the USA is seeing my brothers and sisters being killed everyday by the same people who are supposed to protect them. it makes me so angry.

The Coloured issue is much more complex than meets the eye. A bi-racial person who has a black mother and a white father would never consider themselves Coloured. I’d say Coloured is more of a culture than a racial group. There are dark Coloureds, Asian and white Coloureds. As long as you grow up in a Coloured community and live in that particular culture you are coloured. Bi-racial people will either say they are bi-racial or they will say they are black. A coloured is someone who has lived separately from black and white people and developed their own culture.

I wish you all the best with your move to Johannesburg. South Africa is not perfect, it has its own challenges but the people are some of the best people on the planet. I may be bias because I'm South African. We are kind, warm, loving, outgoing, love to dance & sing. We're human & we also have some rough edges though.

All Coloureds have mixed race heritage but not all mixed race South Africans are Coloured, if that makes sense. Coloureds in South Africa are mixed race from a certain cultural heritage, which originated in the Cape, dating back to the earliest colonial times. It’s actually a very interesting history.

As a coloured person who lives in Cape Town, I see equally as many black, brown and white folk here however the closer to the CBD you get, especially the fancier places, it will feel more white because white people historically have more money and they own property in Cape Town. We also have tons of tourists here which adds to the whiteness.
I'm so happy that you've chosen to move to SA, black Americans are really treated as lesser-than in the US and it's really upsetting to see as an African. Wishing you all the best for your move! Enjoy every second 😊

Moyos was definitely great! Try out Sakhumzi on Vilakazi street in Soweto, for authentic black traditional food👌🏾
Guys, Joburg is very boring in December after the 16th til second week of January - mass exodus to the coast and the rurals. So maybe this is your chance to visit Durban since you've already been to Cape Town.

When we were growing up, were convinced that you guys were doing really well that side. Cosby, Fresh Prince, My Wife and Kids, Sister Sister..
We just assumed that a large majority of Black Americans lived like that. Even now, a majority of black people in South Africa think you guys are doing really well. That's why you'll get asked a lot, "What are you doing here?". Meaning "Why did you leave all that good life that side". I like these types of videos man, they are bridging the gap.

Or to the Namaqualand to see 100s kilometers of wild flowers spring.
Or visit to the biggest green canyon in the world.

I am glad you mentioned the Cosby Show. When it aired it was the most popular show on national TV, and that was among both Black and White audiences! I always felt that the show did more to bring people of all races together and contributed massively to bringing an end to Apartheid.

South African here, we're always outside. We go and see the country quite a lot. It's why the December holiday is such a big thing. Lots of weekend getaways throughout the year too but December is that BIG getaway time of the year. Some go home to see family in the rural areas and some go to game reserves, the mountains, the beach and everything in between. Great video, it's soo cool to see how you view our country.

CPT is majority coloured then white and black african thereafter. The black population in CPT/Western Cape was much smaller than it is now until about the late 2000's when folks from poorer neighbouring provinces migrated there. To me, that explains why you will hardly see many black people there who are comfortable like you would in the rest of the country.

This was such a dope video guys. The similarities between South Africans & African Americans is crazy to me. Yes you're absolutely correct Asad. We grew up with so much African American entertainment, that it felt like we had kin folk on the other side of the world who didn't know about us. That reference to Fair East side really made me laugh. Lean on me was my favorite movie at one point during high school. I'm glad to hear that you have a South African showing you around. You guys are clearly doing this relocation thing right. All the best with your plans.

Yooh, hi guys I'm listening to you right now. We always used to hear Americans say our country is shithole. That was before the UA-cam was introduced. We knew our country was not that, that's why we didn't care as we SAns and other African countries know about the countries abroad. You know problem is that, we didn't appreciate what foreign people see in our country, until the the Americans appreciate and see what we daily see but not really see, the beauty of SA and its people. Thank you for reminding us that no matter how hard things has turned to be, but there's lot we can still enjoy and appreciate. That was one lesson I'll take to heart. Thank you for your love for our country. I enjoy this video every minute of it. So you are staying in JBG. I'm born, bred in Mother city CPT and got married Jozi. Cape Town is the oldest city, over or almost 400 years ago, and vine farms are old too. It has been kept well and clean and renovated and look after. Thank you so much beautiful couple for the lesson.

There is a story about a man talking to a fish. He asked the fish "how can you live in all of that water?" The fish said "what water?" The moral of the story is that sometime we can't see our surroundings because we are so immersed in them. I think a lot people do this. We don't see the beauty of on surroundings /city/country but others can.

Visit Hluhluwe, St Lucia Wetlands, Drakensberg, valley of a 1000 hills for the nature reserves, hikes etc. Then visit the various beaches from the North to the South coast.
There is so much to see in SA and people here to make you feel home.

When you look at the picture of Cape Town from the ocean's aerial view, I swear you'd think it's computer generated/ photoshopped - simply picture perfect!
Staying in Sandton; trust me that you good people will be centrally located to ALL of the action that happens around the country, Government offices, Sport, Arts, Trade, Business, Diverse Culture, Best of Convenience etc.
Recently, I've seen a growing number of couples from the US documenting their relocation experiences to South Africa. They mostly acknowledge the many similarities between the 2 countries and they seem to appreciate the spirit of Ubuntu displayed by citizens. You will fit in so well you'll often forget you're even in the Motherland. :)
I'm eager to know your experience and update after 3/6months of relocation, that'd interesting LOL. Wishing you all the best guys...

Coloured ppl still fall under black ppl the difference they speak Dutch, some they speak English as their first language. Because in the time of apartheid they were segregated them too, they were on the street we were fighting for the samething.I think the government forgot about them after apartheid and to somethings they were not black enough, they are real South Africa light skin citizen and we share the same history

  • @lu881

You should know that Cape Town feels White, but it's really majority _Coloured_ .
It only feels like that because all non-white people are couped-up in townships (poor neighbourhoods) so they don't really get seen in places that middleclass White people can often be seen in as they don't have the disposable income to "be seen" you know what I mean.
So maybe in ten years if maybe we do something about the poverty rates here, you'll see a different landscape.
But your analyses so far are again excellent.

South Africa is majority black, it doesn't matter where you go, so don't be fooled by European Foreigners, immigrants and tourists in CapeTown, their stay is temporary (it is a tourist destination and its beauty is out of this world).

Bro I just watched the video of the police detaining Ryan Coogler at the bank simply because a black bank teller called the police on him and accused him of bank robbery it just gave me chills through my spine. The man just wanted to withdraw $12k of his own 💰.

"You don't escape prison to come back and visit!" 🤣 If someone has lived in USA for as long as we have, they will definitely understand that analogy! LOL

You got the vibes bro, listening to you as your mention the rappers in SA. You are already culture-fit for SA. Regarding coloured people and i South African Indians are recognised under the broad based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) act as designated groups. However, it depends on a individual as to where and what do they identify themselves with! The government doesn’t force you to regard yourself pro-black or not because honestly coloured and Indian people suffered like blacks under apartheid with more privileges than African black people of South Africa. Henceforth, you will find coloured and India people regarding themselves as superior to their fellow blacks!

Hi Asad we really love our country & for that reason we love going out of Johannesburg for holidays or week-ends to places like warmbaths, or to Nelspruit or Barberton because of the beauty. All these places have beauty you would love to see. Just thought I would let you know. Oh & the northern Cape beauty that has to be seen or experienced. So I am glad you are coming to South Africa.
