I went to America in 2018, came back 2019 and when I tell my people that I will never go back there because I saw my people AA's depressed and that the country USA was not spiritually okay for me. They think m mad 😂but m grateful for the experience I had in USA

They were friends and they never ever boast about it whilst the ones who barely did anything or nothing would like us to just let them exploit our country for evil stuff(criminality) . They helped along with Mozambique and even Ethiopia…they helped us hosting our politically exiled people and gave support military training to armed struggle cause. But always remember Black South Africans mostly fought internally and freed themselves, with help of a few others. please also note Tanzanians and Zambians don’t need visas to come to South Africa. Think it’s for up to 90 day stay. Think SAns also don’t need visas for Zambia and Tanzania. These countries are part of SADC(Tanzania also part of EAC) and all SADC countries’ citizens move cross countries without visas

I went to a Christian boarding school in Eastern Cape, it was a great experience for me. I made friends who became family, it gave me a lot of independence and I had no problem moving for university or work. I have lived and worked in three cities already. If your daughter wants to go to boarding school go for it Ashley
Too many goosebump moments 💯 Ashley spoke from her heart and I felt everything she shared. Wish her nothing but prosperity. When I started reading on some of the horrid things that happened during slavery in America and how trauma is passed down from generation to generation, I really started to have empathy for black Americans/AA. I had always wondered why there was so much drug use, alcoholism, even amongst parents. Growing up here, I know folk that drink, but we aren't exposed to a lot/any drug use that gets passed down generationally. So many things started to make sense, the aggression I would see ,so much of it all really goes back to the trauma suffered by the slaves and has been passed on. We all need healing. It'd be nice if you could make a video on this please Asad and Adrienne.

Germans also say that they feel happy when they are here, and for a couple of weeks after returning to Germany they still have a smile on, but it soon disappears around the third week. Makes sense what you mean that you felt softer and free when you were here.

I totally agree about the feeling gets when leaving the US. I remember when l lived in Italy while in the US Air Force, l noticed how families where more at peace and together. Italy reminds me so much of Africa with its slower pace and its priority of family over money.

I'd like to caution people coming to SA & believing White South Africans are any different to a typical White American. The fact that they treat you differently is because of your American accent. Dr Asad you spoke about this yesterday. The "Oh I like you because you're not a Black South African" attitude. Some of them are genuinely good people, however, we must refrain from being too easily impressed.

They kicked my grandparents off their land and out them in Elsies River (one of the worst places on the Cape flats).. My grandmother still lives there

What an intellectual convo , thoroughly enjoyed , and on the note of white South Africans,and the negative comment I saw about them, I have to add as a black South African that grew up both in the hood and the burbs , and having been exposed a fairly amount to both sides , dated both black and white women , black friends and white friends , I honestly have to say people often exaggerate the bad qualities when they aren’t exposed enough to the others particularly in this country , black people that have never known white people on a personal level hold on to what happened decades back and hold that stigma and push that EFF propaganda about white South Africans being bad , when they’ve always been in the hood and don’t know 1 white person personally , and same as white people that lock themselves away , they hold negative stereotypes about black people too , when they don’t know any . But my experience is honestly I have had as many white people in my life who have been influential as black people , some have contributed into being the person I am cuz they chose to be like parental figures to me , even this past weekend my girlfriend was showcasing and selling her art at comic con Africa , and this old white man who was a stranger before then kept checking up on her stall , and making sure she and the person helping her sell were all good , bought them refreshments over the course of the weekend and gave them elderly advise on their art and all , we call him grandpa now . And that was this past weekend . Idk if that happens in America too to young black people but to me it’s nothing new , we even laughed about how he reminds us of some old white people we know who are like him , honestly ,black or white ,Indian or Colored, South Africans mostly all the same , we all just love braai , rugby, and laughter , there will be a few bad apples who are misinformed, but it doesn’t speak for everybody in that group , dear white South Africans that are biased and misinformed and keep to your selves please know ,most blacks are not tryna steal from you . And dear biased misinformed black people from the hood that don’t really know any white people , please not most aren’t like what Julius malema is feeding you, yes 1 in 10 will be racist , but does that mean the other 9 are out to get you too? When most of y’all have personally never even experienced racism like that from a white person you know ? If so then how are you different from the 1 in 9 black people who are out there really stealing ? Racism is real and it’s out there but don’t be biased in your judgement and especially in this country , don’t let the bad apples stop you from meeting the other amazing 9 people out there cuz you fear 1 , this ain’t America , no white people is out there actively tryna shoot you

I found Mr. Malik's comments on crime apprehension in the U.S. versus in S.A. interesting. As a South African expat (based in South Korea), I find I never really let my guard down when I return to my country, because I know how people get down over there. And it's automatic. I worked retail, in Rosebank, back in 2011 and I knew the general spots (in the city) to look out for. I was new to the province so I had learn quick. Yes, there are places where one can relax a bit and roam with relative comfort in South Africa. But there's a striking difference when coming from a country as safe as South Korea. For example, nobody blinks an eye, over here, if I walk down the street with a wad of cash or a high end cellphone in my hand at anytime of day or night. And if you happen to forget your valuables in public transportation or establishments, chances are they'll be found and returned to you. Back home, I'm afraid, that's seldom the case.
Been binge watching your channel, most Lou because SAns always have a negative narrative about us. So this has changed my perception of my own country. I thought AA only relate to SAns because of the fact that we do consume a lot of AA culture. But I understand now that we have a lot of shared trauma. We have had to fight as black SAns for everything and we keep on doing so despite being hated by whites and fellow Africans alike. This country was built on our backs much like America, but today they call us lazy because we refuse to be suppressed and enslaved once again.
I love you guys so much. You must come back home. We need you here in south Africa. We want skills you have and I don't know what to say. I wish all black Americans to be a part of this conservation to discuss about many issues we have as black people of African countries not south Africa alone. My king grown there in america. Beautiful conversation one thing I have noted, South Africa has a culture of tracking or stats for almost everything. Quarterly stats on crime is released by the minister of police broadcastes crimes arrests released for anyone to access, I don't know if other countries in the continent do that
South Africa seems to take a pro-active stance on many things involving reporting Data. I respect it because transparency is important for the growth of a world-class nation. SA is doing it right!

Ashley, look up Inanda Seminary in Durban for your daughter. It is a girl’s boarding school for black girls. Many successful women attended that school. The fees are R70000 a year, peanuts by US standards but the education is good. Or you can choose a multi-racial like I did, and I don’t particularly like the values my kids learned there vs what Inanda teaches girls.
You guys honestly get SA and SAn dynamics. Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. I’d like to propose a topic for future, if you’re willing to go here: why so many non-South-African Africans eg Tigress, Wode Maya & slew of non SA commenters on their videos on their SA visits are so negative about SA& SAns and seem to intentionally to not want to get to know the real Black SAns but want to push white SA media false narrative that Black SAns are lazy and don’t work hard and all are poor, uneducated, xenophobic and have no ownership in their economy. And the parallels between the lazy narrative on Black SA by non SAn Africans and narrative on Black Americans being lazy and always whining about race issues(which I know are real and don’t see it as whining but real lived in experiences that are both systemic and personal) I’d like you to tackle that topic in the most honest and get to the core of it way as possible. If there was anyone who could tackle the topic is you as you are Black American and I’m sure you’ve come across Africans in the US who’d mostly be from west Africa and some east Africa and you’ve visited some African countries and interacted with their populations on their turf…so you have the possible breadth to tackle it.

I have encountered through a WhatsApp group a group of Kenyans who stated to me that many Kenyans perspective on Black Americans is that we are lazy 🤦🏿...And sadly one of them who had formerly spent time in the States ' confirmed' this hideous lie to them. I even shared what was said to one of my Kenyan friends and he told me many Kenyans ) as well as other Africans) suffer from a " colonized mindset. They have low self-esteem and exalt highly White people. Plus they view America as the land of milk and honey and can't understand how there could possibly be any hardships or struggles

I agree with Ashley. Culturally speaking, casual dating is frowned upon, to an extent. However, this stance is typically held by old fashioned patriarchal societies that exist in pockets. I feel like the younger generation is becoming a lot more liberal in that regard.
One question woul d of been great to ask the guest. What was/is the situation of the other parent thoughts on settling permanently to another country with the children.

I'd like to caution people coming to SA & believing White South Africans are any different to a typical White American. The fact that they treat you differently is because of your American accent. Dr Asad you spoke about this yesterday. The "Oh I like you because you're not a Black South African" attitude. Some of them are genuinely good people, however, we must refrain from being too easily impressed.
Trust AA's don't trust any so called whites until they prove themselves and we still keep an eye on them

What an intellectual convo , thoroughly enjoyed , and on the note of white South Africans,and the negative comment I saw about them, I have to add as a black South African that grew up both in the hood and the burbs , and having been exposed a fairly amount to both sides , dated both black and white women , black friends and white friends , I honestly have to say people often exaggerate the bad qualities when they aren’t exposed enough to the others particularly in this country ,
black people that have never known white people on a personal level hold on to what happened decades back and hold that stigma and push that EFF propaganda about white South Africans being bad , when they’ve always been in the hood and don’t know 1 white person personally , and same as white people that lock themselves away , they hold negative stereotypes about black people too , when they don’t know any . But my experience is honestly I have had as many white people in my life who have been influential as black people , some have contributed into being the person I am cuz they chose to be like parental figures to me , even this past weekend my girlfriend was showcasing and selling her art at comic con Africa , and this old white man who was a stranger before then kept checking up on her stall , and making sure she and the person helping her sell were all good , bought them refreshments over the course of the weekend and gave them elderly advise on their art and all , we call him grandpa now . And that was this past weekend . Idk if that happens in America too to young black people but to me it’s nothing new , we even laughed about how he reminds us of some old white people we know who are like him ,
honestly ,black or white ,Indian or Colored, South Africans mostly all the same , we all just love braai , rugby, and laughter , there will be a few bad apples who are misinformed, but it doesn’t speak for everybody in that group , dear white South Africans that are biased and misinformed and keep to your selves please know ,most blacks are not tryna steal from you . And dear biased misinformed black people from the hood that don’t really know any white people , please not most aren’t like what Julius malema is feeding you, yes 1 in 10 will be racist , but does that mean the other 9 are out to get you too? When most of y’all have personally never even experienced racism like that from a white person you know ? If so then how are you different from the 1 in 9 black people who are out there really stealing ? Racism is real and it’s out there but don’t be biased in your judgement and especially in this country , don’t let the bad apples stop you from meeting the other amazing 9 people out there cuz you fear 1 , this ain’t America , no white people is out there actively tryna shoot you

I found Mr. Malik's comments on crime apprehension in the U.S. versus in S.A. interesting. As a South African expat (based in South Korea), I find I never really let my guard down when I return to my country, because I know how people get down over there. And it's automatic. I worked retail, in Rosebank, back in 2011 and I knew the general spots (in the city) to look out for. I was new to the province so I had learn quick.
Yes, there are places where one can relax a bit and roam with relative comfort in South Africa. But there's a striking difference when coming from a country as safe as South Korea. For example, nobody blinks an eye, over here, if I walk down the street with a wad of cash or a high end cellphone in my hand at anytime of day or night. And if you happen to forget your valuables in public transportation or establishments, chances are they'll be found and returned to you. Back home, I'm afraid, that's seldom the case.

Been binge watching your channel, most Lou because SAns always have a negative narrative about us. So this has changed my perception of my own country.
I thought AA only relate to SAns because of the fact that we do consume a lot of AA culture. But I understand now that we have a lot of shared trauma. We have had to fight as black SAns for everything and we keep on doing so despite being hated by whites and fellow Africans alike.
This country was built on our backs much like America, but today they call us lazy because we refuse to be suppressed and enslaved once again.
I love you guys so much. You must come back home. We need you here in south Africa. We want skills you have and I don't know what to say. Beautiful conversation one thing I have noted, South Africa has a culture of tracking or stats for almost everything. Quarterly stats on crime is released by the minister of police broadcastes crimes arrests released for anyone to access, I don't know if other countries in the continent do that

Ashley, look up Inanda Seminary in Durban for your daughter. It is a girl’s boarding school for black girls. Many successful women attended that school. The fees are R70000 a year, peanuts by US standards but the education is good. Or you can choose a multi-racial like I did, and I don’t particularly like the values my kids learned there vs what Inanda teaches girls.

I’d like to propose a topic for future, if you’re willing to go here: why so many non-South-African Africans eg Tigress, Wode Maya & slew of non SA commenters on their videos on their SA visits are so negative about SA& SAns and seem to intentionally to not want to get to know the real Black SAns but want to push white SA media false narrative that Black SAns are lazy and don’t work hard and all are poor, uneducated, xenophobic and have no ownership in their economy. And the parallels between the lazy narrative on Black SA by non SAn Africans and narrative on Black Americans being lazy and always whining about race issues(which I know are real and don’t see it as whining but real lived in experiences that are both systemic and personal)
I’d like you to tackle that topic in the most honest and get to the core of it way as possible. If there was anyone who could tackle the topic is you as you are Black American and I’m sure you’ve come across Africans in the US who’d mostly be from west Africa and some east Africa and you’ve visited some African countries and interacted with their populations on their turf…so you have the possible breadth to tackle it.

I have encountered through a WhatsApp group a group of Kenyans who stated to me that many Kenyans perspective on Black Americans is that we are lazy 🤦🏿...And sadly one of them who had formerly spent time in the States ' confirmed' this hideous lie to them.
I even shared what was said to one of my Kenyan friends and he told me many Kenyans ) as well as other Africans) suffer from a " colonized mindset. They have low self-esteem and exalt highly White people. Plus they view America as the land of milk and honey and can't understand how there could possibly be any hardships or struggles

I agree with Ashley. Culturally speaking, casual dating is frowned upon, to an extent. However, this stance is typically held by old fashioned patriarchal societies that exist in pockets. I feel like the younger generation is becoming a lot more liberal in that regard.
