    Grateful to see a collage technique that doesn't coat both surface and paper, and only light layer over. HUGE fan of furnishing

    Great tips! Thanks. When working with a canvas, i like using foam board underneath. I stacked them up and i do not have to move the book underneath… since they are of a good size and they are pretty cheap.

    from my experience doing collage on canvas does not work on long term.The canvas expends contracts and pieces you glued on will start peeling off or wrinkle or both.I prefer on Masonite board.

    Great video. Thank you. I’m looking for information on how to adhere newspaper to a canvas board in order to paint a still life oil painting on top. Do you know what to use so that the newspaper won’t yellow?

    Thank You! I enjoyed this process. I am wondering if you would use the same process for dried plant material (flowers leaves etc,) especially laying a sheet of paper on top and useing a tool to adheard and remove the bubbles?

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for subscribing! I recommend that you use gel medium which is heavier than matte medium. You may need to put wax paper on top and then weigh it down with some books for a while until it adheres. Good luck!

    Matte or gloss medium Kathy? I’m not very experienced so I defer to your knowledge. If you use matte won’t it slightly dull the piece? I usually only use matte medium for a layer over the finished piece.

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  2 роки тому +1

      I use matte because some of the gloss comes onto the surface and I personally don’t like it but gloss would work

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  10 місяців тому

      you dont have to. But good to afterwards. If the paper is stiff, sometimes dampening it with a little water helps it flatten. But only seal when dry. Hope this helps

    Hi! I have a question- do you think you could in theory paint the canvas in between layers of doing this and collating with newspaper or magazine clippings perhaps. Maybe with markers? What kind of canvas is that and would it work on another canvas? Over a coat of paint?

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Honestly one has to just try it out. You have to make sure whatever you are collaging with is stuck down really well and let it dry before adding any paint. I did this on pre gessoed canvas. Good luck!

    I tried using spray adhesive and the paper peeled right up. So does this mixing medium make the paper wet and rippled?

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  2 роки тому +1

      I have found the matte or gel medium best for this. It is a challenge, so you have to be sure to have a hard surface supporting it as you smooth it down. I hope this helps. spray adhesive definitely doesn't work.

    I'm trying to find the best glue for various Japanese printmaking papers...Washi, rice paper...very thin. Do the gel mediums stain through semi transparent papers, looking like a grease blob or do they dry to invisible with no effect? I have thicker cotton rag papers & have many times used matte medium, soft gels etc. with no issue but I'm afraid I'll ruin my more delicately printed ones or that over time they may discolor if not every part of the surface has ink or paint on it. Thank you!

    • @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader
      @TheArtProcesswithKathyLeader  11 місяців тому

      I have not tried it with delicate papers. I would try a sample first and probably not use gel but rather a regular matte medium. Good luck and let me know
