Most everyone up here, in New Zealand learns to hunt/fish/dive/forage,gather real young. The ocean is our refrigerator and the bush provides the meat and veg, plus fruit/nuts.
I always take the top part of the crab off first and then throw it in the pot. Comes out way better in my opinion… but everyone does it their own way, enjoy 👍👍
