I believe some Kawasaki bikes are made in the US. Also My Toyota Tundra Truck was made in Texas. The only motorcycle brands I will consider are Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha. I'm sure they too have some duds, but Japanese companies just seem to be on another level when it comes to reliability in general.
To me one of the saddest things that can happen to a person is for them to give a shit what anyone else thinks of them, and to change their life, even to the point of buying stuff they can't afford in order to impress people.
@@metalmystic6214 Yeah, they are. The torque coming out of the corners is something I've wanted since the first Honda 750 V4 Interceptors came out in the mid 80's, and am so happy to have it with my 1200 Sportster.
HD built the XLCR cafe racer in the late 70’s. But because it was small, lightweight, handled well and was fast, naturally it didn’t sell. Just goes to show you HD is a victim of its own success. If it doesn’t weigh 700Lbs and does nothing more than turning gasoline into noise then it just isn’t a Harley Davidson.

@@chuckvt5196 I'm a 70 year old dude, who owns a 2005 Suzuki 650 cc Bandit, and likes it. It weighs about 480 lbs, and has about 80 hp. I paid $4k Cdn for it in 2014. I wouldn't consider it very fast, although any motorcycle can be ridden in a reckless and dangerous manner - at least so I've heard. I do agree that if I were to buy a Harley, the Nightster might well be my choice, if I could somehow get past the fact that here in Canada they want $18k for them (ouch!)
I used to ride a Yamaha Bolt R-Spec and people would always ask me “what kind of Harley is that?” And my response was always something sarcastic. Come to think of it, people are just as loyal in their commitment to bash HD. At the end of the day, just ride your ride. I’ve owned 17 bikes and currently on a RE 650. Next year I plan to switch over to the Yamaha XRS 900. In another year or two, I might swing a leg over an Africa Twin. This shit isn’t supposed to make sense. Just get on a bike that makes you smile when you pull the throttle.
Harley employee here (soon to be former employee as of next week) - I loved this video. As a motorcycle salesman, I can’t tell you how many times I have to hear an old dude complain to me about how Harley went “woke”. And as a black man, it’s even funnier because they don’t even know the origins of the term woke and what it really means. (Some employees included 😂) That being said, this video was on the money. There really is nothing like a Harley, I had a triumph legend 900 when I started working at the dealership here - wrecked it and got a sportster. And even though it’s slow, hates running at high rpm’s, and clunky, it has more character and just looks and feels cooler than my triumph did. When I first started at the dealership, I never saw myself owning a bagger, or liking them, but after going out in multiple test rides (and riding literally every bike HD offers) - I get it! There’s nothing like riding a road glide on the highway at 80mph and catching a cross wind from an 18 wheeler - then realizing, YOU HAVENT MOVED AT ALL!! one day when my locs are grey, and my beer gut is a little bigger, I will buy one. I won’t finance one, but I will buy one lmao. Side note - in my humble opinion, if you’re going to buy an HD and you have the funds, get the Pan America, or the Low Rider ST. Hands down the two best bikes they make. Okay rant over. Great video yam.

@@browngreen933 woke was a term coined by black folks during the civil rights/jim crow era. The term was used among black folks as sort of a code word when warning others about dangers they may encounter in sun down towns, or certain areas in general. An example of how it would have been used is “stay woke when you’re traveling through (insert city or area here), you know they don’t take kindly to us” or “if you’re planning on eating at (insert restaurant here) stay woke, cus last time black folks were in there they got poisoned”. If you want a more detailed explanation, just UA-cam “origins of the term woke” or “woke co opted” and you will forsure find some educational material. With this being the context, it’s even more disgusting that the word has been co opted and used by certain individuals, to further try and marginalize those who have historically been put into that position. I say all that to say, most people who aren’t black don’t know what the term means or where it began. So to them, they’re just using a political buzz word. But that’s not what it is, that’s what it has been weaponized as.
This has the same vibe as young girls gossiping about how the other girls dress at school. When I’m on my r1 I enjoy the ride. When I’m on my street bob I enjoy the ride.

Honda VTX for the win! My first bike is a seventeen year old metric cruiser. Bought upon Papa Yam’s advice, “Just go buy a bike, for cash.” Fires on the first crank every time, and as a single dad, I could afford the damn thing! I want a Harley , they just don’t want me…
Not a Harley guy. They really don't make anything i want but... If they were to make a new street legal XR750 with about 75ish hp and keep it around 400lbs i would be interested.
Yeah "individuality" as a hundred of them ride down the road by my house, all riding the same bikes, all wearing the same jackets, all with the same look.
Classicly individualistic and unapologetically the same as everyone else they are. also, i wasnt sure if your profile pic was you, or homelander. If its you, run for president bro, you got a bad ass look
100 people with the same bike and jacket? I doubt it. Individuality is getting a custom paint job and messing with the exhaust to create your own unique sound. There’s a lot of individuality in this world, but I know you’re aware of that. You are a grandma who gets triggered by motorcycles and needed something to say.
Had an R6, a 401 and now a HD low rider ST…one bike that can do it all and not get blown around by wind on the highway is the HD….Yammie just posted a video how he’s getting older and now likes to just cruise around….will probably wind up on a Hog in 10 yrs
I've ridden Harleys for nearly 50 years. I do not plan on selling the two I currently own anytime soon. Yam, I find most of your takes to be entertaining and that's why I subscribed a few years ago. The mockery and derision that drips from your commentary when Harley-Davidson, aficionados of the brand, and baby boomers in general are the topic used to be entertaining as well, even though some of it hit pretty close to home. The invective has become even stronger lately for some reason, even though you put yourself forward as a lover of motorcycles in general and encourage people to ride, regardless of the particular machine they choose. So, while you are free to express yourself as you choose, I am free to spend my time and money as I choose. I know that it is difficult for most not born in this country to fully understand things that are quintessentially American and I am a simp for nothing and no person. Screw it, LET'S RIDE!
Im 58, always wanted a Harley. I finally have the money and lifestyle where it makes sence to get one. I bought an Indian. When honestly comparing all aspects of the two Indian has Harley beat in everything but name and aftermarket parts.
Why do you hate on Harley bikes? Bikers, sure, I get it they seem very funny to me, they all look like "Wild Hogs" cosplay, but that is understandable, the community has history, US is birthplace of this lifestyle and just like every other lifestyle, this too is radicalized, Its like starting with pine tree in the woods that ended up as plastic golden Christmas tree middle aged mom assembles every year. At the end of the day what matters is you, road and your bike, no matter which company made it, I just got Harley Softail Slim, I got it not because of HP, or torque, I just got it because I like the way it sounds and looks and I want to glide through mountains with that iron horse, that's the point of bike in the first place, embracing your freedom and not giving fuck. Safe riding everyone!
There is a new Harley Davidson X440 that has been launched (only) in India. It has had a great reception considering the track record of harley in India. You should take a test ride (if possible) . For a small machine it is actually good value
I think it’s nothing to do with loyalty. Every Harley rider wants to be and look cool with the majority pathologically thinking they are tough and in a club. When they are not. Then you have the clubs who want respect through fear and so on. Harley is a beautiful looking motorbike company with an interesting history, but as a mechanic I think they are sxxt.
HD is the Apple of motorcycles. Created such strong brand recognition/loyalty that there are few things they can do that will turn their fans away. Although funnily enough, HD just did one of the things that would turn their customers away then quickly backtracked.
@@lightxgrenade This is accurate. No real innovation, they, like Apple, created a market, built an image on said market, and each “innovate” just enough each product cycle to make it look like they’re keeping up. While Yammie is critical of people being upset with Harley over recent decisions, it is one of the most “can’t read the room” decisions I’ve seen a company make in some time….and right up there with similar mistakes by Carhart and Tractor Supply Company. Having an opinion on a social issue (when you sell hard goods) that runs contrary to that of your customer base is a dumb move no matter how you slice it.

I owned plenty of bikes in my life, Harley included. And I really enjoyed all of them. I owned Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Harley, KTM and from some of those companies even several models. Never had issues with any company and each bike was a pleasure to own. Just go and enjoy driving and differences that exist. We live in great era and have plenty of motorcycles to enjoy. Would I buy Harley again? I dunno, I would probably go for Indian if I choose to go for cruiser ever again, since I never owned one. Drive safe and enjoy whatever bike you own. Edited: Minor typos, I am not native English speaker.
As a someone who not only works for and owns a Harley i see/deal with harley riders all the time they are very prideful of the community and the bikes i dont do group riding at all as i see it as unsafe in general that being said i do envy the passion i see from them i love my Bike (even if i dont like the price tag as much) its my first bike and my manager at Harley is who taught me to ride and even sent me to a class to learn more i do think other brands have merit as well as ive always wanted a sport bike but honestly i dont feel like people should be loyal to any brand just bc its made somewhere ride what you like and if your style changes imo so should your bike
I didn't mind the harley jokes until a video where he called harley riders dumb asses with deep pockets. That's when I thought, I don't need to subscribe to this channel.
HD is the one brand I would never even consider buying or riding. The gawdawful racket they make is beyond annoying. I ride too much to deal with their lack of reliability. The seats are too low for my 36” inseam, they weigh too much, they cost too much, they go too slow. I really don’t understand what anyone sees in them?
SIMPS. "Harley, just like a motorcycle but not!" the most efficient way of turning fuel into noise without the side effect of horsepower. the riders too cool to return a nod or wave.
It’s funny how everyone thinks they are so expensive, used Harleys have dropped a ton in price. 2009 HD Fat Bob 4,600 miles $6,000 with fresh tires, battery and all fluids.
Honestly, I've never been interested in Harley's. The only model I would even consider is a Sportster. But if all their bad business actions continue lowering their price, I might consider one.
Just keep in mind that, the last tests I saw, brand new Harley Davidson's ~37% of the time run into some kind of major engine malfunction within the first five years. If you really want me to try and find the video, I can. I don't want to seem condescending, because it's probably not your first vehicle purchase, but just check it out really thoroughly before you purchase. Always better to be safe than sorry!
@@MGooGM I have a lot of friends and fam who own Harley's, only one had serious issues. But I definitely know about some of their problems, which is definitely why I would only get one for a steal of a deal, cos I'm sure the money I save will just be used to make it rideable 😂
@@BlueJayWaters Haha you never know! My step dad's Harley never had any problems and actually ran really well, so who knows? If you buy a used one and it's solid then you're probably good to go! I'm certainly not trying to dissuade you by any means. My friend's dad also bought a brand new Harley a few years back. He looked at me right after he bought it - all the bells and whistles, he paid like $40k or something for it - and he asks me if I wanted to ride it. I just started laughing at him like I was going to risk dumping that thing as I'm standing next to my little R3 that I had already wrecked. 😂
I don’t know about the demographics of the rest of the United States. But here in Delaware it is a strange thing to see. I drive all up and down the state, pretty much every day. As long as I have lived here (20+ years); it is literally half of the motorcycle riders are Harley Davidson, 40% ride GSX-R, and 10% is literally everything else.
I'm in Australia a mate bought a $55k Hardley made in Thailand and has had nothing but trouble with it, it left him stranded one thousand kilometers away in Qeensland from NSW and had to have it trailered back home, good job Hardley.
Harley does make a pretty, solid, and mostly very reliable machine. Most other current manufactures make a bike with similar stats but for a much lower price. That's the only problem I've ever had with Harley.
Yammie...I can tell you've met very few HD owners but thats okay. I'll fill you in on my reasons why I ride HD and none of them were in your video. 1. In my area, the best powersport dealer is the locally owned and operated Harley Davidson franchise. And when I say locally owned and operated, I mean I called them the other day and the owner picked up the phone. He's always at the dealership willing to talk to customers and has even been to known to work on bikes in the service department. Speaking of service department, there are literally hundreds of years of experience between all the techs and they're always there when/if I need them. 2. I'm by no means a smaller person. My Road Glide just fits me. Yes, I had to do some modifications to get there but I can honestly say that I don't like riding other bikes because I now have my bike tailored to my body size/type 3. I'm no spring chicken anymore. I'm pushing 40 so anything other than a touring style bike, while ridable, doesn't give me the time in the seat without paying for it later. On the other hand, I can and have ridden hundreds of miles in a day and been just fine. So rag on the brand all you want, I enjoy riding my bike
I'm from the UK and have owned a bunch of Japanese sports-tourers across the late 90s and early 2000s, but now have a 2002 Fatboy. As a teen, I rode to school on the back of my dad's Virago 750, and have always preferred cruiser style bikes - I don't enjoy trying to ride fast on public roads, it feels more like pressure/work than just doing my own thing. I had sports-tourers as a teen/20s for a few reasons - price and UK availability, highway suitability (a need at the time), and a degree of peer-pressure in sports-bike obsessed UK of the era. When the opportunity to get a ride-for-fun only bike (rather than a daily workhorse), I bought the Fatboy. I had 3 reasons for this. Firstly, I had a $10k budget, so wasn't impacted by high prices for new bikes of any brand. I nearly tried to stretch the budget for a new Scout, but it was just out of reach and there is only 1 dealer anywhere near me. I could have got a 'metric' and loved my dad's Virago (and would have a metric today). But I picked the Fatboy for reason 2, Harley make cruiser style bikes primarily. Their cruiser line is not one of many lines that takes inspiration from other brands, but their chief product. If I want pancakes, I go to IHop, not McD's even though McD's do pancakes also. I do like metric cruisers also, but would prefer one from when they did their own thing a bit more - the inline 4 ZL900 or v4 V65 Sabre...but for this century, they are all (now midsize only in UK) v2 clones; though a growing segment of parallel twins is interesting Finally, I wanted a bike I could tweak to my own shape and aesthetic desires - and there is an easier aftermarket supply in the UK for HD than metric cruisers; so Fatboy it was as the mix of right bike and right price. Now I just want a z900rs to sit alongside it
I’ve never liked the mob mentality and conformity of the HD “community”. I ride alone, maybe with one companion. These quarter mile long mobs of slow Harley’s you can’t pass are a real pain in the ass.
The only brand I've seen people dead set on a harley get was an Indian. People dreaming of a harley get a harley 95% of the time, but the other 5 get an indian
Damn you Yams. My cousin just brought his Ultra Classic Electra glide down from Ohio and now I’m looking for my first bike… screw paying those new bike prices. FB marketplace and Craigslist all the way🤣🤣
I love my Harley. I have a 07 Electra Glide classic with a 2015-103"TC (chipped, cammed, and dyno'd at 115hp). I also own a 2016 BMW S1000XR. When I'm riding my Harley, it works out to 9.6 lbs per hp. My BMW works out to 4.2 lbs per hp. My Harley is more fun for hooning and squiding. But on the twisties, the Beemer is king.
I’m a guy who used to work at a Harley Davidson dealership. I got my license there on a Buell Blast. And I really really want a Harley Davidson one day. But, they do not make anything that I would want. They don’t make a beginner bike, they don’t make an expensive bike, they don’t make a modern bike, really. And that can be fine, no one is asking for a beginner, MV Augusta. But, even Ducati is making new and varied models, and they even have the Scrambler line that is not wildly expensive for what it is. And it is disappointing to see that they could have made a beginner bike (X440) in the US, orat least made The Bronx. But they chose not to, so now they have pretty much nothing that I want to get / justifiably can afford, and that’s their own fault. And makes no sense to me.
@@LDDivision they stopped producing the street 750 in 2021 (I got a used 2016) if you are looking for a good starter bike, it's a great bike and doesn't get the wobbles at 90. See if you can find one lower miles, I got mine for around 5k a couple of years ago. When I upgrade I'm keeping it to turn it into a bobber and around town bike lol.
Mostly? There's so many other factors. Germany and England have high wages and strict safety standards, but BMW and Triumph make bikes that people can afford.
Yummie I just love those subtle hints that you don't like Why Harley Davidson' Guys are mad at the brand. It's not because people think differently. It's because of how damaging their ideas are to children And society.
I remember my first brand crush. Crystal Pepsi. Later it was Zima. I just wanted it to be clear, y'know? I did all the things you normally do: wrote letters to the board, assassinated the company's product with a belt-fed machine gun, picketed. No dice. They just insisted on making the soda and the beer...well, colored. I'll never forgive them. Never!
Not a sport bike guy, but not a big bagger type either. I chose my '01 Sportster for part availability and customization. I like the sound and the look.
I will bet no matter what, there's a part or two on any American assembled anything from overseas! Either a turn signal, a computer or accuator, most likely the headlight, no matter what if it say it's American built it still has a foreign component somewhere on it! I'll stick with my DR 650 it's old but reliable, carberated and very simple electric system!
As a Harley rider I actually really appreciate this video. I like my Street Glide ST because I fell in love with it when I rode it and then bought it, and I tour a lot. The community is a thing, but as a gay man it’s kind of awkward having to go back into the closet a little because I found the greater community not so bueno on gay men. Lesbians seem to be cool but if youre a gay dude, you keep that shit to yourself or so I’ve seen. I wouldn’t say im loyal to HD though. I’d buy an Indian again any day.
Freedom and individuality. That's why they all dress the same. Its a pirate costume consisting of a sleeveless thin black leather vest with various patches, rag on head instead of helmet, Doc Martin style boots, a wallet with a chain attached to it. That's the look of a real bad-ass nonconformist rebel. Too bad all the bad-ass nonconformist rebels look alike.😂
In the world of HD, the customer is never right. Also Yam, you forgot that Yamaha makes the Star Venture Transcontinental that would eat Harleys all day long.
"Every rider has a brand they simp for." Um, not really. I've owned several brands and would be happy to ride anything that does what I want it to do, regardless of who makes it. Currently on a Yamaha and a 1980 Honda, but when I decide I want a new bike I look at EVERYTHING.
Harley-Davidson is going to go out of business. It is just a matter of time. All it will take is a bad recession and Harley will go under for good. Even building them in Asia won't save them.
I have a HD road king, and a bmw f800st. The BMW is a far superior machine in most aspects,BUT if I don't want to break the law all day, the road king is just more fun. It's far better looking, and the sound combined with that low ram grunt makes riders smile. Testosterone and ignorance do contribute to their sales, but that doesn't mean most Harley all Harley riders aren't as passionate about riding as non Harley riders. Motonosity has a great reaction video of his first time riding Blockheads Harley, and I think most open minded people would react the same way.
My buddy had a 2017 road king and had to sell it because he had to have the money for his kid. I ride a Honda VTX 1800. We talk about him getting another bike so we can go on long rides. I’ve suggested some metric cruisers that are suited for touring but he’s got to have a new road glide. But he can’t afford one now. So instead of buying a Japanese touring bike he said he’ll go back to a sportster. I don’t understand it, but that’s my experience with a loyal harley guy.
I like HD because I like old things in general. They look old, feel old, look good and sound good. I'm also not a big performance person. I'm not chasing an adrenaline rush, I'm just on the bike for the vibes. I like hitting the highway at a reasonable speed and just going. Their recent support of the lgbtqia+ community was actually a point in favor of Harley for me. It was a shame to see them roll back those policies.
I agree. I love riding the Harley Dyna Lowrider. I'm as woke as can be and proud of having supported rights of lgbtqia+ people back in the day when it was less popular. Not sure why freedom doesn't include everyone and on that point I agree with Yammie Dude. Not sure why guys like Yammie don't see the inherent value of a Harley though, even though I also own and ride a Honda.
If I were in charge at Harley, I would just keep on building 800 pound bikes with pushrod V-twin motorss that make sixty horsepower. It it ain't broke, why fix it?
i have a super glide from 2001 carb runs great doesn't leak oil i expend 6500€ best bike ever had, also i own a honda hornet 2007 pc41 also incredible bike but still not even close to the feeling of the super glide. greetings from bcn 🤘
Harleys, turning gasoline into noise without the benefit of performance for years. How about reliability? If Harley Davidson made an airplane, would you fly in it?
Good video! Old v-twin air cooled Harleys do sound amazing. And I definitely wanted a Harley when I was younger for that iconic sound and look. Arny riding a Harley in Terminator 2 in particular was just so bad ass. But then again I also wanted a affordable bike that is reliable.
I find that anyone who wants a cruiser gets a Harley... because they have no idea that other companies also make cruisers. They see a cruiser go down the road and they think "nice Harley!" Even if its a Honda lol
As a former HD guy (HD for the streets, other bikes for the track).... I won't buy HD again. I was loyal to the brand, which the company has now destroyed so I'm not staying for the bikes when I can buy basically anything else that's better and cheaper
As a person who has spent over 100k on HD bikes, parts & accessories over the course of my life, YES torque is King & HD is the master! It sounds like you’re trying to talk yourself into a screamin eagle 135ci stage 4 crate motor. Cheers!
Harley rider/owners should not be lumped all into the same category. There are some of us that agree with the South Park clip. Not all of us wear assless chaps and blindly complain about “woke” America. I’ve been riding for a long time, I have a sport naked and a Harley. Many Harley owners are ignorant, most of us non-koolaid drinking Harley owners laugh at the blind sheep FTW group. It can be extremely annoying listening to them whine like misinformed adolescents.
Not everyone can buy a brand new Escalade. They purchase a used highly optioned Suburban or Tahoe instead. What really interests me about your comments on HD is how slow they are. That is hilarious. They can pretty much all hit at least 105 (well above the posted speed limit even in Texas), and do you not also rag on those who want litre bikes because they will never be able to us all of that horsepower on the streets? Seems like you like to ralk out of both sides of your...mouth. One of the most comfortable bikes 8 have owned was a 800 lb Harley. It probably saved my life one night. I hit a deer while traveling at 70-75 mph, and the bike did not even slow down. I did have to stop because my leg got banged up as the deer wrapped around the left side of the bike, flipped in the air, then ran off (it didn't even have the decency to provide my family with delicious deer steaks). I rode the bike for over 100,000 miles and sold it for decent money. I have also owned Hondas, Yamahas, a couple of custom japanese motored choppers in the 70's Swedish style. Now I own and ride a Kawasaki Z900. I have enjoyed all of my bikes. As far as HD's socio-political statements go; I would rather companies make good products, not jump on any political bandwagon. I do not care who is in whose bed. If someone wants to say they are something they are obviously (or sometimes NOT so obviously) are not, great for them (if they are an adult, if they are not an adult they do not need sterilization or surgery, they need therapy). As far as them building bikes in other countries, I really wish they wouldn't, but I will not curtail my purchase as long as it is not China. I really want a PanAmerica. I see used ones prices falling so there is that. Ride what you want and dont worry about what anyone else does. Is not the saying, "Ride your own ride." That can gor for the equipment you operate as well, not just how fast or slow you operate it.
Yammie, while you are talking about why ppl are mad at HD you are missing the fact that HD provided funding to orgs that promoted childrens transition surgery, and sent their white employees to "white priveledge eeducation" classes. Those are the things that got ppl riled up the most. Is it wrong to want a company you love to stay out of the BS and just make bikes?
@vincentnelson7588 that's what got me fired up. When robby starbuck dropped that first vid about them I posted it to every riding group, and have been arguing with ppl that don't get that simple fact.
Totally out of touch. Not to mention lots of the info is just wrong. Amf did not outsource. They imported a few select Italian models and that's all. Have you noticed how many 50 plus year old Harleys are still on the road? Most powerful? No. Fastest? No. Durable and and top tier quality? Absolutely. Not saying everyone has to like them but they are legendary for a reason. A modern Honda accord would burn my 69 Camaro any day but the Camaro is still a sweet machine. Lots of Egos and shovels out there with a quarter million miles on them. Keep the rubber down fellas

So what is the true origin of "woke" and what does it really mean?
Sorry to hear you lost your job. Hope you get back onto a new Triumph and enjoy life again.

Be loyal to the product not the brand
Yes, I had to do some modifications to get there but I can honestly say that I don't like riding other bikes because I now have my bike tailored to my body size/type
I do like metric cruisers also, but would prefer one from when they did their own thing a bit more - the inline 4 ZL900 or v4 V65 Sabre...but for this century, they are all (now midsize only in UK) v2 clones; though a growing segment of parallel twins is interesting
Finally, I wanted a bike I could tweak to my own shape and aesthetic desires - and there is an easier aftermarket supply in the UK for HD than metric cruisers; so Fatboy it was as the mix of right bike and right price.
Now I just want a z900rs to sit alongside it
Papa Yam talking with HD-accent had me in stitches

Lower prices are mostly due to lower employee wages and safety standards.
Mostly? There's so many other factors. Germany and England have high wages and strict safety standards, but BMW and Triumph make bikes that people can afford.

I have also owned
Hondas, Yamahas, a couple of custom japanese motored choppers in the 70's Swedish style.
Yup, feel free to live as you please, but leave kids out of it. That was the issue.
