  • Tinting the windows of your car, truck or SUV can add style and comfort to your driving experience, as well as helping you protect your interior from light, glare and ultraviolet rays. Installing window tint on your vehicle is a straightforward procedure we will outline in this video. Gila offers several types of tint, as well as an installation kit that includes everything you need to tint the windows of your car.
It’s important to know the tint laws for your state before choosing a Visible Light Transmission percentage, or VLT. For information on each state’s tint laws, visit iwfa.com/news-events/state-la..., then select the US State Law Chart.

It’s important to know the tint laws in your state before applying tint to your vehicle. Visit iwfa.com for information on that. Also, be sure to do this job in a shaded, well-lit, dust free environment. If you’re not completely comfortable doing this yourself, we’d be happy to recommend a professional technician in your area.
If you have decided to do this yourself, gather your supplies, and let’s get started.
You’ll begin by using the outside of the window as a pattern for the film. So, the window needs to be very clean. Spray the exterior glass wet with the Gila Application Solution. Then use a low-lint cloth or squeegee to dry the glass.
We will be using Gila Window Film. This film has a liner side that protects the adhesive. It is important to identify the side with the liner. The liner side is rolled to the outside and is slick to the touch. If you rub the tint against itself, the sticky side is the tint and the slick side is the liner.
Wet the outside of the window with the application solution.
Roll the film, liner side facing out, onto the glass… keeping in mind that the tint will be applied to the interior side of the glass.
Using the soft rubber edge of the squeegee, stroke gently down the film to temporarily hold it in place for trimming.
Trim away the excess film and set the remaining roll to the side.
Next, position the film ¼” to ½” below the top of the inside gasket and wet the outside of the film.
With a sharp blade, trim along the window seals of the vertical edges first. To avoid damage to the glass or seals when trimming, press on the knife gently while keeping a low angle. Use only enough force to cut through the film and always tear excess film away from the cut.
Before trimming the top edge, gently lift the film from the bottom of the glass so the film does not crease when the window is rolled down.
Open the door and roll the window down about 2 inches.
The top of the glass should now be exposed. Use the top of the glass as your blade’s guide, and trim the film to the edge of the glass. Take your time and make a clean cut.
Reposition the film slightly and carefully round out any corners that aren’t smooth. The film is now cut to fit.
Now, move to the interior glass. Spray the inside of the window and thoroughly clean the glass with a low-lint cloth and squeegee. Use a razor or plastic scrub pad for any stubborn spots. Remember, any dirt left behind will cause bubbles in the film. Be sure to wipe down all seals where dirt may be trapped.

Rule number one: Safety glasses. If you’re installing window tint in below freezing weather you run the risk of freezing the tint when you spray soapy water at it, which can lead to the window tint snapping in half and exploding thousands of tiny tint shards hurdling at your eyes and face. Proceed with extreme caution.

With some vehicles, the inner lower rubber trim can be easily removed. If so, remove it so you can clean the glass and squegee the tint to below where the rubber strip will sit. Replace the rubber strip in a few days after the film has set.

Gave it a shot on my silverado and it was pretty easy. After looking at the Gila film and comparing it with what ever brand Tap Plastics sells I went with Taps. It cost more but is sold by the foot and is def higher quality. For the solution I used distilled water and an anionic surfactant left over from making soap instead of the Gila or Johnson's baby shampoo. Followed the instructions from this video and 45 minutes later my windows look like they were professionally tinted . With all the confidence I gained I tried to help a buddy with his car that has curvy windows in the back... didn't look bad but didn't look great either, I think I needed more practice using a heat gun

I’ve used 50/50 and 60/40 bout the same the soap just helps it slide but I warn u this is not a diy job first the tint u buy at Walmart is garbage you’ll spend $50-60 on tint another $10 for glass cleAner / lint free tags/ squeegee we are not at $70 u could pay 150-200 to most shops that will h r it done in less than an hr and has warranty’ u do it you’ll spend all day mis cut it leaving gaps screw up go back buy more film’ trust me learn from thousand of folks mistakes this is not a diy job PAY! It’s worth it’
If u think u r gunna do it yourself cuz u know it all no offense take your door panel off and the rubber gasket off door so u can put film behind gasket without tucking etc
Also be it known u must wait 2-4 days b4 u roll window down’
If it’s winter time / cold make that 5-7 days b4 u roll it down’ trying to help u here’ but hey I’m just a stranger waste your time and money and then still have to pay to have it done once your job doesn’t turn out :-)

Wtf is the liner side? He explained that the sticky part is in the inside of the roll but thats not the liner side yet hes saying hes putting the liner side on the window first when its more than obvious that he explained that that was the sticky part

    • @billruggirello1707
      @billruggirello1707 2 роки тому

yes, you need to listen to it a couple of times. Rubbing the sides on THEMSELVES, IE, folding it over so the side touches itself, if it sticks to itself it is the tint side (no liner), the slick side is the liner. The tint doesn't have "glue" on it, it just sticks to itself if rubbed together. The liner is a different material and doesn't stick to the "glue" or itself.

you can say ceramic yes? live in a state that doesn't allow the car to pass annual safety inspection with less than 70% you're taking it off and reapplying it once a year. why pay more for ceramic when you're only getting a years worth out of each application when you can go buy a 100ft role and do your own tint for years, for less than $200?

Lol. Have you seen how much soap and water shops use when they tint windows? The window is drenched. But that’s the least of your worries if you think this video is going to teach you how to tint. He doesn’t show how to shrink the film to remove the fingers at the bottom. You see them midway through the install and then they are magically gone. He cuts the film improperly, doing it this way will leave light gaps guaranteed. Forcing the tint at the bottom like this instead of tucking it will surely rip it. That’s why it shows him trying to force it in and then the video skips to the tint being tucked. Save your time and money, take it to a professional. You’ll end up doing it anyway. If by some miracle you like the look of blue tint rather than charcoal and it actually comes out ok, it’ll be purple in a year or two.
