I'm sorry but as a former windows phone user I'm here to tell you apple did not destroy windows phone, Microsoft did 😂
It was a multi issue things, I also am a Windows Phone fan, but they came late to the party with a good store, and they wasn't kind to the developers
IMO Google killed the windows phone by denying them access to any of their apps (UA-cam, Google). Same exclusionary practices, different company.

funny how there's no mention of the emails from apple's Craig Federighi and Phil Schiller admiting that iMessage is meant to lock in iphone users. Federighi said that "I am concerned [that] iMessage on Android would simply serve to remove an obstacle to iPhone families giving their kids Android phones."
Yes, I agree. The case is not about Apple making a seamless product. It's about Apple deliberately stopping Apple customers from accessing other people's products and services
This Is a rant from an iPhone user and fanatic hence why it's not objective.
@@mwat22 100% Correct!
And as an android phone user i used to be subscribed to his channel years ago when he actually used to defend Samsung devices against iPhones and then at a certain point he jumped ship from Android and defected to Apple, i'm guessing that he's joined the Apple payroll just like many popular tech channels on UA-cam like MKBHD, Mrwhosetheboss and many others.
iMessage uses Apple servers. Since Apple doesn’t openly harvest and sell data like Google does, it wouldn’t make much since offer it as a free service to non-Apple devices. Google justifies most if not all of their free services by harvesting and selling your data. It was ultimately a business decision.
Thats okay tho- we wanted that. Back in the day, if you werent on AIM- you were locked out in the same way
Imagine if Google said the only way to watch this video in 4K is only on a Pixel phone. Would that be ok if you can watch in 480p on an iPhone?
haha wtf? are you stoned?
@@bren3155netflix does this m8
Than Apple would create it’s own UA-cam.. Other companies just need to create better phones
@@bren3155 No, they are not stoned. They are trying to give you a perspective that you clearly are unable to see.
Well, they actually already did that: many years ago they decided to only offer 4K content encoded with their own codec instead of the standard MP4, so iPhones couldn't play more than 1080p because the hardware acceleration (which is necessary to save battery life) was designed for mp4 (h264 and h265). Apple was forced to modify their chips in later iPhones to support Google's codec.
Anyone who thinks sideloading is a security issue probably doesn't realise that its completely up to the user to decide if he wants to side load and apple will 100% put the option to sideload behind a password or face ID
You already decide against sideloading by buying an iPhone. It's as easy as that. It doesn't get more secure.
Bullshit. Companies are already forcing in tune on people’s devices. Imagine what they can do if they enforce an entire AppStore out of apple control. On top of that you have people trying to have services for free what leads to spreading malware to others. All sideoload EU devices should be banned from apple services and treated as android by the iCloud network
@@anianiiafter iOS no longer supports your device, it’s basically a paperweight.
@@the_mariocrafter Which has nothing to do with sideloading? Besides, that will take so long that it's not really usable by then anyways.
What about people who don't understand what sideloading is, what about people who are older and have enough problems trying to understand how iOS itself works without having to watch out for scammers trying to get them to install fake apps? If you like to sideload go buy an Android phone, that's fine, good luck to you. My mum has an iPhone because I trust Apple to help protect her, I also try to explain about scams, but I can't be there every minute of every day. Locked-down ecosystems have a legitimate use to help protect children or older people who don't know better - it seems every person who knows everything about technology forgets that other people don't.
The fact that repair issues aren’t being talked about in this case is so frustrating. That’s something that really bothers me about apple. I like the user experience (I’d be better if I had more choice.. ) but the fact that all kinds of stuff is software paired is bs and they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with that. Not them or anyone else that does it.
Exactly, this nonsense about security is just PR, with Apple's anti-repair and anti competitive practice, they can charge absurdly high repair prices.
So u want them punished for making a superior product
@@jaybronjames9680 they aren't making a superior product by locking down everything so the person that bought their phone cant repair it.
Buy another phone. That’s why we have choices.

Either he is paid by apple or is himself a significant shareholder. It is absolutely a monopoly on consumer electronics. And if you willingly ignore that you simply aren’t a true capitalist.

Even if he's not being paid by apple, he's likely doing this to earn their favor.

Buff Jon, if apple would people use their computer phones like a computer, to compute things no matter the software they want to use on there, phones would be a lot more advanced nowadays. Just look at the Mac. You can use the hardware however you want, you can sideboard, u can put a different OS on it and much more. And I would say the Mac is a stable product. You get the recommendations by apple but are allowed to break out if you want to. Apple doesn’t limit the iPhone for the sake of safety, but because of their business and anti competitive behavior

Apple purposely making pictures to/from Android phones worse isn't about vertical integration.
Except Apple has never done that. That is perhaps one of the silliest things in this mess of a lawsuit. Apple didn't invent SMS and they can't magically make SMS work differently on an Android phone. Catch up.
The reason why the pictures from android to apple and back suck is because apple is using the same tech that was used by your razr phone in 1999 to send it. At least they are switching to RCS.
And that's one thing we know about. I wonder just how much stuff Apple has done, did or is continuing to do but keeping it all hidden.
Apple makes their Android Shazam worst so you consider switching to ios.

@@AstralNexus597please avoid commenting about shit you don't have a clue about
@@AstralNexus597 I agree with RagingBad, just don't talk. You have no idea.
Here's a perspective.
Imagine you're deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem, with your friends and family all using iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. You've also invested in various Apple services like iCloud to seamlessly share files, settings, contacts, etc... between your devices. You have many App Store purchases tied to your Apple ID. Your smart home devices are compatible with HomeKit, and you rely on Apple's proprietary features like AirDrop and iMessage for seamless communication. Now, consider the challenge of switching to Android. Not only would you lose access to these services and features, but you'd also face compatibility issues with your existing hardware and software ecosystem. Transferring your data, such as contacts, messages, and media, becomes a stupidly difficult task. Moreover, the social aspect plays a significant role; switching to Android means potentially losing compatibility with your friends' devices and disrupting established communication channels. This deep integration makes it challenging for users to break away from Apple's ecosystem and transition to competing platforms.
Other companies make it open so you can go out and buy a watch made by Google and use it with your Samsung phone. You can't do that with Apple. Understand this. How can Samsung or Nothing compete with Apple. They can't. Apple users are locked into the Apple ecosystem. It is hard for them to escape. Therefore, hard for them to move to other companies products or even just use other companies products in the Apple ecosystem. Apple has made it this way, and Apple shall be forced to stop this stupid anti-competitive behaviour.
glazing, riding AND licking!! its insane how he completely misses the point.
Thinking the battle is about making iOS more like Android misses the point of the whole case😭😭😭
I could agree on a few points in the lawsuit but I lost it when they said "the user may need to re-learn how to operate their smartphone using a new interface".
this clearly tells us that they want iOS to be like Android. Even the UI and UX.
At the same time I can tell that they haven't used Android because a person who has used android before would know that iOS and Android are based on the same fundamentals i.e. tap to select, swipe to scroll, hold to get more options etc. So, you don't have to re-learn anything.
@@ironspider6851They added that line for completeness sake. Also this os the most cherry picked line out of the video. The paragraph was listing all the friction points when switching, of which for conpleteness sake, the UX is a part of.
They are not suing on the basis of having to re-learn an OS, but on the basis of Apple trying to have high friction switching off of the iOS platform. You can even just pause this video when he zooms out of the quote later in the video and read the context there.
And what is that point, exactly? There's nothing in the lawsuit that merits the lawsuit.
@@tedzards509 i agree but lets be honest the line where they said "user must re-learn to use a smartphone" was unnecessary.

Let's be objective here John and ask ourselves these questions :
- Why would Apple build the Blue bubble, Green bubble in the first place, as long as they can implement an open API or protocol to support those same features on Android, or vise versa ?
- Why would apple make their devices less repairable or don't offer enough repair support for third party repair shops and provide them with technical resources and required hardware to do so ?
- Why would apple practise monopolistic actions towards different business and different vendors ?
If you can answer these questions honestly, then you'll know why apple is very success, and not because of the eco-system, nor the garden they have, no it's because for the long run, Apple took some actions against the benefit of the end consumer
The lawsuit we’re talking about only really focuses on the first point you mentioned. There already is an open protocol we use for messaging, it’s called SMS/MMS. That’s the standard across all carriers and most businesses in America. How is it Apple’s fault that Google failed to market RCS as an SMS replacement to these bodies? If the US phased out SMS with RCS, Apple would be forced to comply with the change by very nature of keeping compatibility.
And the blue bubble/green bubble only signifies which protocol you’re using to chat with. If you message an iPhone that’s not signed into an Apple ID, surprise, you send them a green bubble, as it uses SMS instead of iMessage.
Blue Bubble = iMessage
Green Bubble = SMS/MMS
There are plenty of apps that do what you want that exist on both platforms. If you want to talk to people maybe even in a better way, try Signal.
100% agreed!👍
This is absurdity at best. How different is iMessage from any IM service? What is wrong with a company having their proprietary IM? Can’t a company have a selling feature of their own? Then why didn’t nobody sued Blackberry for having their own IM? AND how is it apple’s fault to have this feature from years and other manufacturers couldn’t innovate a better solution for themselves? Think about it, and let’s be objective.
What has caused this is that the app store is no longer what was announced by Steve jobs which is a market place for digital goods and apple being the government of the market place. Today the developers selling digital goods are competing with the government of that market place in addition to competing among themselves. For example, Spotify pays 30% commission to apple which apple can letter invest in making apple music better and compete more strongly with Spotify. However, if apple music pays 30% commission to apple which is the government of the app store Spotify and other music streaming platforms benefits nothing. In addition, certain features are restricted to apples own software without a proper justification. In order to compete against such business practices developers have tried to get alternate payment options in their apps which apple has blocked.

Apple is what it is today because they benefited big time from the Microsoft antitrust case. Without Microsoft bailing them out, there would have been no Apple.
Not quite... Microsoft's purchase of Apple stock in 1997 did give Apple a boost and help save them from Bankruptcy, however it was Apple's purchase of NeXT and Steve Job's return that turned Apple into what it is today. If they didn't purchase NeXT, Apple would have died not long after, regardless of Microsoft's investment.
@@LeeroyBr Yes, but NeXT was in dire straights, too. That's why Jobs was willing to sell to Apple in the first place. Nobody was buying OPENSTEP, or NeXTSTEP before that, or NeXT cubes before that.

Ugh, "iOS is a feature not a crime" cringe me a lot.
It's true though. MacOS is a feature, not a crime. Same with iPad OS. There is nothing cringe about it. iPhone OS is the feature of the phone and for some reason Android people tend to not see computers that way because typically the OS on a computer is not the "feature". It's usually just the OS. But on iPhone, the OS is the product. Apple sees iPhone as a product like an appliance. It's not a traditional open source computer, it's just an iPhone.
Nintendo Switch is a switch, it's not a computer. The OS on the switch is the feature. And the EShop is the only market you can use to download games on the Switch. Nobody is suing Nintendo for that. "locking down people to only buy apple is a feature not a crime"
Still you have the choice to buy other products , isn’t forcing anyone to buy their products. Yes created an ecosystem that connects every apple device you have but the same can be said with google which also have an ecosystem which benefits android devices. And yes once you’re in an ecosystem is kind of hard to get out of it but in the end is your choice no one is forcing you to stay or to leave the ecosystem.
The idea of an ecosystem is for a consumer to have access to any of their data from any different device they owned from a company. Is convenient even though it seems like is locking you down in buying only their products. But then again apple is not forcing anyone to stay.
Remember that before smartphones we had a phone to made calls, we have a radio to listen to news and music, we have a camera to shoot photos everything was separate. The smartphones came and can do everything in a single device so is logical that the next step was creating an ecosystem or a cloud where consumers can have access any of their data from an iPhone, from an iPad, from an Mac, etc.
Too much weeping from other companies but they never copy any positive things had done,
but instead copied in the negative things apple had done like raising their price, eliminating the charger from the box, eliminating more ports like headphones jack. And you think is the only bad guy when the other tech companies literally are following apple’s negatives step.

You mainly find this corporate cult-like behavior in western societies where cultural, religious, and community institutions have been eroded. These people lost their sense of value and belonging in the world they live in, turning those deep desires towards the one thing they still control; it's the things they consume and the multinational corporations that fuels that consumption. Apple makes it difficult to leave the ecosystem, THAT is what the lawsuit is about. It doesn't matter what choices you offer if the consumer is too RESTRICTED make that choice. A Samsung user can easily switch to One Plus or Nothing or Pixel. The same can not be said for iPhone users.
So now it's a companies fault that they don't make it easy for you to leave their products/platform??? You can move across those other platforms because they are all Android based so the core logic is the same.
Box they all run android
Apple is only surviving because of US market otherwise in rest of world 90% phone share is dominated by android brands. And by hurting Apple they're taking away choices not making more by eliminating what makes apple stands out ie. their closed ecosystem which is more standardised, stable and secure while there's android which offers more variety, versatility and value for those who wanna go for it. Making them like one another won't benefit in long run. Apple is only company offering legit competition against android and windows monopoly, if they fail competition will eventually stagnate and who will we make fun of lol.. but yeah Apple do need to be more open n free in areas like repair, third party support etc..
Then don't buy Apple product. Samsung and Google try the same. It is just that their products suck.
It's not difficult to leave. Just buy another device and use that instead. What makes it difficult is that android doesn't have the ecosystem Apple has and once you've started using it, everything else just seems inferior.

@@burp2019 Agreed. With just the text shown in the B-roll where he marked up some quotes, the text visible gives a way more nuanced point. Theres no way he hasnt even read those parts at some point in printing, writing, filming (or his editor during editing)
So what IS the point. First, nothing listed in the brief is illegal, unless and until they win on the point of Apple being a monopoly. And that is very far from being certain; nobody who has ever sued Apple claiming they are a monopoly has won such a case. Take away "monopoly" and there is zero case here. But even if they are declared a monopoly, the remedy to that would likely bear little resemblance to the points raised in the brief. So, again, what's the POINT of the brief, in your own words?

You're actually wrong on the point that competitors don't make better products. They do make better products. Apple's restrictive practices has made those products look like they're not better. Like with messaging for example. Apple doesn't support the latest messaging software that all other phones use, so from an Apple user's perspective. The message from these other phones appear as green bubbles giving them the idea that this is an issue with other product when in fact it is an Apple issue. That's just one of the examples. Apple adopting other stuff into the iPhone LATE and making it look like it's something new that no one's ever done before when it's actually been available for quite a while in other products and even works better in them. Heck... Apple keeps including Android features more and more and their loyal customers keep appreciating these features thinking their Apple's brainchild when they're not.
Do I think this lawsuit is a good thing. Yes and No.. for various reasons. However, I do agree with the reasoning that Apple is selling people a better experience than it's competitors by making it's competitor's products look worse or subpar through restrictive practices instead of making better products in *MOST* segment.

But I only like macos this is open like u can install any third party app or do whatever but why can't be ios and ipados can be same level of openness if macos is safe and part of ecosystem then why can't be ios and iPados be made same level of open
I literally keep Android tablet and phones to enjoy that level of openness
iPhone have great hardware and locked software like iPad have M1 chip in it if it would have been open as Androids people can easily make use of its great hardware
Um. No. Letting the govt dictate what features a company can and can't have on their own products is very dangerous. Plus the consumers have spoken and it's very clear what the majority of consumers want.
I like iPhones but I’m all for sticking it to greedy apple Silicon Valley HA.😂
I really love the new format of FPT! Cheers to the whole team! Awesome vid!
Ultimately whether it is iPhone or Android, they are just products. As a customer it is always better to have more options, and competition drives innovation. Rather than monopoly or duopoly.
Tech Journalism = Jernalism
you know what, even if apple lost, it wouldnt affect them negatively.
Jern drank the kool-aid hardcore. Apple resisted RCS voluntarily to keep an edge. Without pressure, they wouldn't have broke that line.
I love what FPT has become. This is now my favorite tech channel.
Remember BlackBerry. Apple is following the same path……
One brand that stayed there. Samsung. Sometimes being the second best is always the best thing
Bro what are you yapping about
Yeah…EXCEPT! Apple has no physical button keyboard & has the Ecosystem Psychology Nailed! So Apple has definitely still got plenty in the tank. Unless godforbid these lawsuits comeback to haunt them like is did PAN-AM back in the early 1990’s or maybe late 1980’s. I don’t remember the bottom line is they were shutdown.
Great video Jon. Really enjoying your informative video essays.
