Great view into the meeting highlights. I was a member of the CAP when I was in high school and now, as an adult, considering volunteering as a senior member. Your video was very informative. Thank you. - Phil
Late comment/question. Would you happen to know how process is for military veterans and what positions/opportunities does the Civil Air Patrol have? I found some positions such as Recruiting and Historian, for example.
Hey man, did you end up joining? I can name a few that stand out but there's basically anything you can think of comms, logistics, cybersecurity, lots of aviation/mission pilot positions if that's your thing, as well as leadership like squadron commander, tons of ES stuff, If you're a veteran you'll definitely get picked for stuff easier with your quals, but the process will be usually the same as how they usually let anyone in (unless you got a violent crime or something) also, thanks for your service
Thanks for this info my friend is going to his meeting and asked if if wanted to join and I said sure I’ll check it out so I’m going to my first meeting
@@TheSoupDealer I did but it wasn't for me unfortunately so I moved to a different program but it was a nice experience and I'd recommend anyone who is interested in it to join it.
how often do they do public speaking classes? i just joined and on my third meeting they did public speaking and expected all cadets to do a speech. i have major social anxiety and cannot do speeches in front of anyone, and this really bothers me because i don’t know how often this happens.
It depends on the unit. Part of the cadet program is public speaking, but accommodations can be made if you are transparent with the Deputy Commander for Cadets and the Squadron Commander about any diagnosed social anxiety. Most squadrons give cadets the opportunity to lead classes and small groups, like during drill. My recommendation is to talk to your unit's leadership to come up with the best solution!
Normal CAP meetings are normally held sometime after school and work hours for a few hours, then members go home after. Encampment is a sleepaway activity, but that normally happens once a summer. Each encampment has different training environments, but it might be useful to take a look at one of my encampment videos for additional information on that activity!
It varies greatly between units! I know some cadet squadrons are 40 active cadets on the roster and some with 10 active cadets. Some squadrons have as many as 150 cadets on the roster!
i am a new cadet and i am one out of three we are a very small wing lol, i am working on reading chapter one Learn to lead does anyone have any good advice for me?
You could watch one of my learn to lead chapter videos! I did a few videos on chapter one. And it’s okay to have a small squadron! Welcome to the program, and please feel free to reach out here in the comments anytime!
Most squadrons ask that all cadet participants, including prospective members, take part in formation. I recommend reaching out to your local unit point of contact for details about expectations for prospectives, including participation in opening and closing formation. My unit has all cadets fall in during opening and closing formation. Some units have a specific flight for new members, and some units have new/prospective members fall in with everyone else.
To sign up, the process differs slightly depending on if you are joining as a cadet or senior member. Prospective cadets must attend three meetings, proof of identity verification, and put in their application online. Prospective senior members must complete a membership board, fingerprint cards, proof of identity verification, and send the paperwork to CAPNHQ. Please reach out to your local unit before visiting!
@@sadsader100yearsago9 if you’ve already visited before, then you should be set to attend. Some squadrons send out a form over email to indicate if you are planning to attend, but others have different procedures! I recommend just asking on Friday if there is something they use.
There is no need to be nervous! Everyone at one point has gone to their first meeting, and it can be overwhelming. However, there are a lot of great people in the program that will help you find a place in whichever unit you join. In terms of tips, just try new things and talk to other members about their experiences in the program! After you come to three meetings, the nervousness normally fades away. ☺️

Speaking of model rocketry, our squadron is apparently the only one in the country to have flown a mach 1 rocket
