What's your favorite one light setup? Even though it provides the least amount of control, I love the look of the 7 foot shoot-through umbrella!
Westcott does a deception: I own the 3-set 7-foot umbrellas. They are about 6 feet, not 7 feet.
Saludos Miguel ! Thank you for posting this very easy to follow tutorial . I like that 7' umbrella set up .
Great explanation!! Go Jordan!!
One of my favorite setups, too, Miguel! I'm really fallen in love with the 53" Deep Umbrella lately.
I'm a huge fan of the deep umbrellas as well! Unfortunately I don't have the diffuser for those. This is a good reminder for me to scoop that up! :)
Thanks Miguel for another great tutorial!
Thank you for watching!
Been waiting for this!
Hope it helps!!
@@MiguelQuilesJr It will. also can you make a video on what is the best backdrops setup especially for beginners, and what do you prefer?
I have a video on that topic on my channel, but I might make a follow up to it! Great idea 😊👍
One Light Set-ups have become more popular these days, and your set-up is dead on to the way I accomplish it......excellent video !!
It's all about simplicity! We've had to learn to live with less these days, and the way things are going I don't see it changing. Thanks for watching!! 🙏
I appreciate this video, some great tips here. I have a5ft that I rarely bring out, but I'm going to practice with it.
It is also great to have a beautiful model.
Never hurts!
great video, very helpful
I love my 6 foot umbrella and it creates damn beautiful light, but I’ve been gravitating to my 42” beauty dish/modifier as of late. Soft light but still has some sculpting properties that is doing it for me these days. But really, I just love one light setups in general. Sometimes people (IMHO) over complicate the light setup with minimal to no real gain.
Couldn't agree more! I was surprised to see how many looks you can make with one light when I started out. Even though I have many more today I still find myself going with one light setups over adding a bunch of lights for the sake of having them.
Hey Miguel, new subscriber to your channel. I have found your video's so helpful. I am new to studio portrait off Camara flash but have been doing photography for over 20 years. I have a ad200 pro and a 35 inch parabolic softbox(got to start somewhere). Just wondering what your usual sweet spot is for color temperature(white balance)? I realize it depends on the shoot but do you have a starting point? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your content ✌️
Nice bokehkage! I have switched from flash to led lighting since I shoot photo and video
Thanks my friend.....also is was great meeting you at Wppi.
Great to meet you as well, thank you for your support!
Nice!
Thanks!
another informative video!
Thanks for watching it! Got a doozy of a video posting up in a couple of days. Should be a fun one :)
thx u
Thanks for watching!
I’m binging today. So just letting you know I’m not a spam not liking all your vids lol! It’s just me!
I appreciate you!! Hope you enjoy 😊👍
I seen at you WPPI but didn’t get a chance to talk to you, I also saw you went to Red Rock, I live about 35 miles from Red Rock, so next time will have to hook up.
Nice! I was there all week and got to drive around and enjoy the area. Hoping to make it back later this year. Thanks for watching!!
Hi Miguel. Appreciate the video. The other light you had next the 7” was that light being used as well for this demonstration?
Thank you! Great question by the way. I actually made a separate video with a detailed answer on that. ua-cam.com/video/tjFygjYLyUQ/v-deo.html
@@MiguelQuilesJr Thank you 🙌🏽
Great vid! Quick question: If you boom the light overhead - how do you keep the umbrella shaft from sliding all the way down?
Thank you! Good question too. The light has a small knob that you can use to tighten the rod in place. It won't move anywhere. 📸
@@MiguelQuilesJr Thanks!
if you have a head like an Elinchrom or Profoto that doesn't have the tightening knob, you can just make a 'stopper' with a bit of gaff tape on the rod!!
Sadly I don't have enough space for this are the 45 inches wescott umbrellas any good?
Question: Did you had a second light source firing in the soft box? I'd like to find something affordable to use outside. Any suggestions?
Nope, just have the one light inside of the umbrella. Outdoors this setup can be a challenge. I'd recommend going for a 4 to ft octabox if you want a versatile setup.
Great video! What about if your using these giant umbrellas on Los toon, do the rules change
Thank you! I assume when you write "Los toon" you meant location, correct? If so, then yes, it definitely changes a lot. I wouldn't recommend using umbrellas when you're outdoors as it could damage your equipment. A better alternative would be to use a 4 to 5 foot octabox.
@@MiguelQuilesJr thank you and yes I meant location lol
So this is for a constant light right?
Nope, it's a flash! Check out the link in the description of the video for details. I also have a video about the light on my channel that goes deeper into it.
One light setup?? Come on Miguel, I clearly saw at least 5 other lights….:) just kidding!! Hoping to see how fast you run again in the next video… thanks for the tips. How do you like these umbrellas over a 48” octabox? I have two Godox SB-UE 120cm soft boxes. Would I get much of an upgrade in my portraits with these umbrellas?
I'm waiting for someone to say that for real lol I dig using these as a layer of soft light over a harder light source like a beauty dish. On their own however, they are pretty awesome. I'd say it would be a big upgrade over a 120cm softbox in the sense that they set up quick, are pretty affordable, and travel easier. I find myself going back to using these pretty often.
you moved from A1 to the A7IV ?
Technically my main camera is the A7RV, but I have several cameras that I own and use just to feature in my UA-cam videos.
Where does the 7’ measurement come from? It’s not their measured diameter.
I'd love one but my ceiling is not quite 8 feet even
You can still use it if you have an 8 foot ceiling, especially with the way I like using it. Just stand or sit in front of it and you'll get some great looking results 📸
@@MiguelQuilesJr OK, it'd basically go floor to ceiling. Will I cast a shadow at all sitting in front of it?
It definitely will take up space, but it's so worth it! You won't cast any shadows due to the size of the modifier and how close you are to it. The light will wrap around you.
@@MiguelQuilesJr thanks I Always enjoy your videos 👍
Then I need a bigger space for that huge umbrella ☹
too big for my godox tt600
You can definitely make it work, you just need a flash adapter for the umbrella. To get really nice light like you would a strobe, you'd probably need 2 or 3 of those flashes on one mount to fill up the umbrella.
Uh, this is three lights and a bounce. Not exactly one light at all. Wtheck
A reflector isn't a "light", just like the walls of my studio which are likely reflecting some light aren't specified as a "light". There is only the single Westcott FJ400 in use. As for the "three lights", this video will speak directly to what you're seeing ua-cam.com/video/tjFygjYLyUQ/v-deo.htmlsi=V0jLBsOUYd3_Uzel
