    What's your favorite one light setup? Even though it provides the least amount of control, I love the look of the 7 foot shoot-through umbrella!

      Westcott does a deception: I own the 3-set 7-foot umbrellas. They are about 6 feet, not 7 feet.

    I love my 6 foot umbrella and it creates damn beautiful light, but I’ve been gravitating to my 42” beauty dish/modifier as of late. Soft light but still has some sculpting properties that is doing it for me these days. But really, I just love one light setups in general. Sometimes people (IMHO) over complicate the light setup with minimal to no real gain.

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому

      Couldn't agree more! I was surprised to see how many looks you can make with one light when I started out. Even though I have many more today I still find myself going with one light setups over adding a bunch of lights for the sake of having them.

    Hey Miguel, new subscriber to your channel. I have found your video's so helpful. I am new to studio portrait off Camara flash but have been doing photography for over 20 years. I have a ad200 pro and a 35 inch parabolic softbox(got to start somewhere). Just wondering what your usual sweet spot is for color temperature(white balance)? I realize it depends on the shoot but do you have a starting point? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your content ✌️

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому +1

      if you have a head like an Elinchrom or Profoto that doesn't have the tightening knob, you can just make a 'stopper' with a bit of gaff tape on the rod!!

    Question: Did you had a second light source firing in the soft box? I'd like to find something affordable to use outside. Any suggestions?

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому

      Nope, just have the one light inside of the umbrella. Outdoors this setup can be a challenge. I'd recommend going for a 4 to ft octabox if you want a versatile setup.

    Great video! What about if your using these giant umbrellas on Los toon, do the rules change

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! I assume when you write "Los toon" you meant location, correct? If so, then yes, it definitely changes a lot. I wouldn't recommend using umbrellas when you're outdoors as it could damage your equipment. A better alternative would be to use a 4 to 5 foot octabox.

    One light setup?? Come on Miguel, I clearly saw at least 5 other lights….:) just kidding!! Hoping to see how fast you run again in the next video… thanks for the tips. How do you like these umbrellas over a 48” octabox? I have two Godox SB-UE 120cm soft boxes. Would I get much of an upgrade in my portraits with these umbrellas?

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому +1

      I'm waiting for someone to say that for real lol I dig using these as a layer of soft light over a harder light source like a beauty dish. On their own however, they are pretty awesome. I'd say it would be a big upgrade over a 120cm softbox in the sense that they set up quick, are pretty affordable, and travel easier. I find myself going back to using these pretty often.

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому +2

      You can still use it if you have an 8 foot ceiling, especially with the way I like using it. Just stand or sit in front of it and you'll get some great looking results 📸

    • @davidromano2421
      @davidromano2421 Рік тому

      @@MiguelQuilesJr OK, it'd basically go floor to ceiling. Will I cast a shadow at all sitting in front of it?

    • @MiguelQuilesJr
      @MiguelQuilesJr  Рік тому +1

      It definitely will take up space, but it's so worth it! You won't cast any shadows due to the size of the modifier and how close you are to it. The light will wrap around you.

      You can definitely make it work, you just need a flash adapter for the umbrella. To get really nice light like you would a strobe, you'd probably need 2 or 3 of those flashes on one mount to fill up the umbrella.

    • @MiguelQuilesJr

      A reflector isn't a "light", just like the walls of my studio which are likely reflecting some light aren't specified as a "light". There is only the single Westcott FJ400 in use. As for the "three lights", this video will speak directly to what you're seeing ua-cam.com/video/tjFygjYLyUQ/v-deo.htmlsi=V0jLBsOUYd3_Uzel
