You need to have Loctite and a tool kit with you. My boyfriend rides with spare parts and tools in his old leather saddlebags on his '75. Parts literally vibrate off as he rides. Riding an old Shovelhead cross country is sketchy. I rode with my ex to Sturgis from Maryland in 1984 on a '59 Panhead. It took 4 days. I was 20. He was a great mechanic and nothing vibrated off, and we had no problems. Poor Mike, his bike needed some VTwin parts. That's where you buy parts for old motorcycles. You used to be able to buy parts at swapmeets for old motorcycles. Davenport, Iowa has a great old parts swap meet. A memorable trip for you two for sure.
I bought a Buell in 2022 in Souix Falls SD I needed to mount a phone holder ect A Ram Mount the HD Dealer didn't have one but a Power Sports Dealer 1/4 mile up the road did. I camped in my pickup for two nights at the Twin Cities HD Dealership. For Goodwill to them I bought a Tube of Locktite. I paid $13.00 for a tiny tube in 2022 at the HD Dealer for what Home Depot sells for $8.00 for 6 ml in 2024. I used to buy 50 ML bottles for $15.00 Now NAPA wants that much for a 10 ML bottle
Never understood the speed/power/performance/handling thing, or about riding a bike at its limits. I'm 65, have been riding on the street since age 16, have owned over 40 bikes, all of them carbureted, and ridden over a million miles. I have never even considered performance when buying a bike. It's always been about looks, feel, sound, and comfort. I like to hit the highway, and just kick back and cruise. Mile after mile. Just me, the bike, and the road. No phones, no stereos. As long as the bike will mostly keep up with traffic, that's all I need. I always stay in the right lane on interstates, and usually fall in behind an 18 wheeler doing about 65, and stay there. Speed means nothing to me. 1970s brakes work just fine. I currently have a 1989 FXRS Low Rider, and it is one of the most fun bikes I've ever owned. I bought it 21 years ago, and have had several other bikes at the same time, but that FXRS is magic out on the open road. Just rumbling along at a nice easy pace. If performance is your thing, then maybe a crotch rocket would be a better choice.
I suppose this is why they make more than 1 motorcycle for people to choose from. I had a crotch rocket when I was 18 but I have enjoy building performance Harley’s. 🤷🏼♂️ doing thousands of miles stuck behind a 18 wheeler does not sound enjoyable to me on any level. Adam I love what you’re doing with the campground. My wife and I stayed there a couple months ago in your freedom camper for veterans and absolutely loved our stay. Cindy is a great hostess and it was really cool to finally see her husband and can put a face with the name now. Looking forward to staying with our group in one of the cabins next year!
Loved this episode. I will have to make time for me to take a trip. Never understood cruisers, specially loud H-D. Ride a BMW 1200 GSA for 12 years good on long stretches, cuts corners like a sport bike, best of both worlds. I thought that until I went out and tested a used 2019 H-D FLHTP. Ride it for 1/2 mile and got the dealer to deliver it. First ride out scared the s# out of me, very torque, heavy, leaning in turning was awkward. I forced myself to go on a Sunday morning with very little traffic and took a full day trip. I managed to reset/rewrite my thinking and adapt the riding stile for this new iron horse. I guess it is true what they say, you have to ride it to understand it. Despite all this BS with the company, I love riding it and I will keep riding it. Look forward to see more videos from you. Agreed. Riding my FX shovel on a road trip is way more of an adventure than on my electraglide. Kickstart only; foot clutch and jockey shift; the more the sketchy the more the rush which equals priceless adventure.
In 1971 I rode a 1951 20 y/o pan. In 1979 I rode a 30 year old 49 Pan. All of my riding buddies had these old machines and we would ride them 1000 mile round trips on a 3 day weekend, sometimes out for 10 days. Aside from a few brake failures (fixed using roadside debris) and generator failures (fixed with matchbook covers), we had little trouble. In a nut shell we were great mechanics when we put our experiences together.

Coming from a detailer that is ocd about his bikes, if you get gas like that on your bike, wash it thoroughly, and yes it will wax/buff out. If it seems to dull a little, use a good clay bar, then buff after. Use Griots wax’s, and chemical guys spray detailer in between. Paint will look show finish. That bike is the same age as me, making me feel old, but damn what a sweet bike! Be safe brother! 👍✌️
😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩 Loved watching your trip! I used to tour on a -74 Electra Glide, so I know it can be "exciting"!😄😄 But nothing compares to doing that trip on an older HD!! 😁😁
Actually, I think there were lots of STD's in the 1960's just not aids. I was just reading that it's most likely syphilis that made Howard Hughs Crazy. He got it before anti-biotics were invented the video claims. Al Capone died in prison from syphilis too. I guess everything that is fun is dangerous.
Thank you for this video.. been across country with my 73, 76, 79, shovels many times .... Wish I could send you pictures. Good job. Now go alone. Take a month.
A 1970's Harley ridden by a 2020's rider...........In 1970, the rider wouldn't have bothered to even comment.......He would have pulled a wrench out of his pocket, lit up a smoke, and went to work......No big deal. Been there........Did that.
Grinning ear to ear...rode US routes on way to Stubborn American this year on that "Badass" (your words) 90Fxlr...picked up 62 in Hillsboro,Oh., rode to Eureka Springs, then dropped down to 412 on 23...I swear you'll never feel more alive than criss-crossing this country on sketchy old iron...more smiles per mile
I ride a 94 sportster 883 and it's comfortable at 65 miles an hour not fast but I just enjoy the slow cruise the sound of the drag pipes all I need , my buddy has a 2001 dyna he always likes to ride like a bat out of hell and honestly it takes the fun out of it , I like to enjoy the ride and views that's much more enjoyable
I've had my 1975 shovel head fxe since 1980, the gas cap has leaked since I got the bike. If there is a fix I would be greatful to hear it. I envy you both. Riding those bikes IS an experiance.
I made a decision when I bought my Low Rider in 2018. I was torn between the street glide and the Low Rider. I picked the Low Rider because it was really more fun to me. I’ve put 62,000 miles on it since I bought it. From California to Florida, 50,000 of those miles with no windshield. I added that a couple of years ago to keep some of the cold wind off during the winter and liked it enough to leave it in. Great video.
Happy for ya dawg. Happy there’s still genuine and positive people out here. Shows being true to yourself and a drive or purpose can really change your life
Looks like you guys had a blast... those are good memories. GLad you guys didnt have too many issues.. but thats part of the experience. Cheers from the Great White North 🇨🇦
Bike looks good and sounds great, one thing you will learn about Shovels is lock tight every thing, I have owned Shovels for over 40 years and wouldn't be without one, have later ones aswell but never be without my Shovel. Stay safe.
Your sign looks great, when me and my wife stayed there on our 13th anniversary back in May this year. your carpenter was still working on our porch so the manager moved us to the crows nest, what a great time we had staying there and riding around on our bike. I had a 1981 Shovel head I called Frankenstein because of all the parts and peaces that broke or fell off on the highway. The motor just was not balanced correctly from the factory when I took it apart it had spun the bearing races in the engine case ruining the motor. I fixed it and traded it in for a 1986 FXST custom no more problems just maintenance that's it for over 30 years now of owning it. The trouble with Shovel Heads on back to many hands on them through the years. Glad you all made it back ok the best rides to remember are the ones you break down on and fix it and keep going.
Saw the pic of ya buying it at Mad River Harley. That's where I got my 08 Softail deluxe. Pretty cool I get to see where the bike went and your trip. Awesome!
I will be staying at your new route 66 resort when I go back to Eureka Springs and give it a try. I think the cabins are great. I definitely like the bike wash station! Great location in Eureka and boy the roads there are beautiful. Glad you like the new old bike.
This is what riding is all about to me. I’m getting my twenty yr old Harley ready for little trip to Acadia National Park in Maine and everything you said is why I stick with my old ride. Edit: Rock straps are all I ever use and I’ve converted some of my bungy lover friends! ✌️
Never drove a shovel head, but I know they are not very dependable at all. I would’ve went with an evo late 90s. Shovel has definitely have the cool factor but those were the worst year Harleys. Glad you’re having fun. What an awesome trip.
Adam that's one hell of a rode trip. I like what you said about knowing the limits of the bike your riding. There's 5 bikes in my little shop here and I know how hard I can ride all of them but one. The old ASPT Ironhead Sportster will run out of brakes real quick if you push it. The Super Glide just likes to cruise at 70 in 6th gear. The two metric Adventure bikes will make you think your better than you are and I haven't found the limit on the new Honda XL 750 Transalp. Just picked up a 03 Low Rider with over 4K of aftermarket parts on it including 2K in shocks and springs ( Poor man's FXR! ) I tell my riding buddy's all the time you ride your pace and I'll ride mine. At 64 years old I have nothing to prove. If you ever make it down to central Florida look me up and we will ride!
The shovel is the best sounding HD engine. That's what was on my 1st bike. '79 lowrider. Love those engines, but I can't put miles on em anymore. If u know, u know! Lol
If you really wanna have a good ride and you can make it to California take the old Highway 49. It goes from north to south or from south and north depending on which direction you’re going .It’s the most Beautifullest ride you’ll ever experience. it goes right up to Yosemite check it out
I have an 02 fxd dyna superglide I bought new ,I put a true track system front and back. I catch a check engine light once in a while. I'll have my mechanic check the wiring that comes up on the back of that true track system in the rear. Love to watch you guys on the dynas.. I also have a 2022 electric glide standard 107
You sound so excited in the beginning of video like you found some new since of purpose! It’s great! I would like to see you try the “dragons tail”or “twisted sisters” on that ride and I think you would fall in line with what it’s all about with the old iron. I enjoy your content, thanks.
Old US Highways across the country are the best. Been on stretches of 62 many times. As for the gas cap, my old '73 the cap did that from time to time. Usually, just get home, give it was and was good to go. I went from the '73 FLH to an '05 Geezer Glide. After this trip you just made, you understand how I miss the '73.
Welcome to the shovel head club Adam. Been following you for a while first comment. I bought my first new shovel in 1978 FXFB I think? As soon I got out of the USAF. As a SAC (Strategic Air Command) Aircrew trained killer I was ready to cut loose a little. I had it a couple months before a not to be named 1%’ers club stole it. Took the insurance money and bought a used 68 FLH chopped. Tons of great memories on those bikes. No other Harley sounds as good a the ole shovel. Ride on brother and thanks a ton for all your support for us as vets…we got NONE! during the 70’s.
wow Adam, that shovelhead fits you better as all that injection stuff! I ride my 74 homebuild rigid shovel for 21 years now and I love it. Thanks for sharing this trip, it looks amazing. Cheers rom France mate, great video!
Riding old bikes is a trip. My 1967 Elec glide only had 31 horses. But would go 120 down hill. My Honda shadow has 36-41 i have 2 bikes . Love riding them. Slow but steady. My Gold wing is a 2002 1800 has about 98 horse power goes 150 ish. But goes 75-85 all day. Love those long rides 2000-5000 mile rides. Seeing the USA. Enjoy your new bike😊🎅🏼🏍🇺🇸
I own three bikes a 1994 Heritage classic a 1995 paughco ridged Evo 5 spd. And a 2008 roadglide special. And my 1995 with suicide jockey and foot clutch is the worst but most fun to ride.
Adam I rode a 56 straight leg frame with 77 shovel motor and 48 hydra glide front end. Rode that bike all over the country for 12 years. You need tool kit with bolts nuts tape wire etc so you can fix most issues on the rode.
It was fun and wild times, I rode that bike from 1978 to 1990, you have to remember back then everyone was riding shovels pans, me having a brand new 77 motor, I felt like I had one of the newer Harley’s on the rode. It was fun but I like my 2022 FXLRST a whole lot more. But I am 67 and don’t think my body could put up with riding a ridged frame. I love seeing the young guys resurrect the old bikes and ride the crap out of them. That is Harley Davidson tradition!
You’re a brave man Adam. I used to ride my shovel from SLC to Sturgis back in the day. Never again ! 😂 you’re going to hate that front wheel setup when it rains 😂
I have rode many a motorcycle in my younger years and I've always been intrigued over the Springer front end even though I never owned a Harley until now. I used to love a long good ride. I understand about riding something vintage, everything I rode seemed like it was vintage, always had to work on them, but nonetheless, always a good ride!
Met an old schooler out of the Chi years back, apparently flight suits were common as was hanging a 60w bulb between the jugs overnight to keep the oil thin enough to start was as well. Different times for sure. Rain, sleet or snow… and sometimes sun.
Amazing great video felt like I was there!!! I bought the damn bike 2017 road king and having no fairing apes just hit different!!!! Hopefully taking to Mexico if everything lines up!!!!!!! Great video
I know exactly what you mean about the old school rides. Back in the day I had a 66 XLCH, jump ahead many years and now I have a 2004 Classic. Miles apart....so , I bought a 73 XLH to get the old school vibe again. Biggest difference between the two, the 66 was kick only, the 73 has a button!
Shover Heads each one has its own Personality . If You do Your Brakes when you start your day check Bolts when You Stop when you start . I love shovel Heads . Last one was a 82 80 in hopped up SS kit .
Man the sign looks awesome (congrats) was headed that way last Sunday to check out the camp grounds but unfortunately and buddy’s bike had issues, so we just made it to Bentonville Arkansas!!
I once rode a Honda goldwing from London to Graz in Austria, it was enjoyable, the following year I rode a Honda CG125 (yes a 125 cc bike) from London to Valencia in Spain, I'm here to tell you that every mile I rode on that tiny bike felt 100 time more epic than it did on the goldwing.
The new 2025 line up looks killer man! The all new Transglide and the prideglide look sick man. They both come standard with a King/King seat and rainbow led underglow lighting.
As long as the paint doesn't start bubbling, it will buff out shoot it should just wash off when you give that bike a good soap washing. Use Dawn dish soap. If there is still residue after washing it, then give it a wax & buff. Then you can get new seals for the gas caps or just replace the caps when you get the chance.
My favorite style bike "SPRINGER" I wouldn't trade anything for my anniversary heritage springer, I'd love to an another to my collection but haven't been lucky enough. Rt 62 through Ohio is also great ride an plenty of small towns to stop at, along with mom an pop restaurant.
It will buff out. You might be able to find a gasket at a hardware store or get a generic gas cap from a auto parts store and buy the caps from he HELP section and take the gaskets from those.
I was 17 in 1969. That summer, I had my first Harley, a XLCH kicker.....I don't remember what year it was but it had a Fairbanks-Morse magneto. I had to remember to turn the mag to retard or the bitch would try to break my leg..... I was nuts, my bike was nuts, and the wimmen were crazy as hell! *SUMMER OF '69! I knew, then, that I was at a high point in my life!*
Anywhere in Arkansas is Great Riding! Hardy is a neat town and Hwy 62 on West to Eureka Springs is a must ride. Don't forget to STOP at the Quilt Shop & Store on 62 just W of Harrison...! A must traveling with the Little Woman....and solo, if you like "home comfy's"....don't pass them up. It's a wife/husband quilting Team!
The conclusion RIDE, of 62. Been waiting for you to drop this off. Looked like a awesome, rural type ride. As I said awhile back, I bought the damn BIKE, waiting on prescription glasses, cause I couldn't pass my eye test 😢 soon man...soon ! I CAN NOT WAIT 🦿🇺🇸
I can relate to what you're saying, I have a 95 Fatboy and a 09 Roadglide, the older bike is just a better ride, but I did more work on the 95 like the seat, pully ratio to bring the vibration down and handle with a bat wing faring.
Cruising shovelheads........( NO COMPUTERS) That would be good UA-cam material....... You WILL be working on it alongside the road. And you will develop a followership of people like me who did that for years......
Man brother I love that sign it is amazing and thanks for showing us that road I guess it’s another road I will have to put on my list to ride glad u guys made it safe and sound and that’s crazy he lost that bumper and didn’t even notice it gone very funny after fact love what u all do
Yaaaaa Man it's just rollin in anything motorized with 2 wheels . I still get a kick riding my Coleman minibike, or my e bike , shovel yes ,hardtail in the livingroom 😅. Too old for that . The R1 for go'in and my Heritage to relax, little cammage, thunderheadersss. ok they all have a "place" . Take it slow Bro . I don't think I ever my shovel past 68ish but getn there is the Funnnn , frickin velocity stack tryin to suck in my calf ,belt on the left tryin eat my pants and leg 😂. And just grabbin throttle . Sorry, old man babblage. ❤
The thing about pre-Evo Harleys, and for that matter all older machines, is they'll give you back just as much energy as you put into them.

A 1970's Harley ridden by a 2020's rider...........In 1970, the rider wouldn't have bothered to even comment.......He would have pulled a wrench out of his pocket, lit up a smoke, and went to work......No big deal.
Been there........Did that.
I’m definitely new to having a bike like this
Grinning ear to ear...rode US routes on way to Stubborn American this year on that "Badass" (your words) 90Fxlr...picked up 62 in Hillsboro,Oh., rode to Eureka Springs, then dropped down to 412 on 23...I swear you'll never feel more alive than criss-crossing this country on sketchy old iron...more smiles per mile
I love riding the back roads! It’s amazing what you’ll see once you leave the interstate. Glad you two made it back safe!
Great ride! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your other videos.
Thanks for watching!
Those bikes were built when 55 was the speed limit and they are geared accordingly so they run best around that speed
That’s a great point
Nope. They have 4-speed transmissions, which means with 1200 cc, 60 MPH is about where they need to be.
I’m sure that rooster tail from that front wheel is wonderful!
I have a 77FLH and would suggest an oil cooler for that 74ci ,actually any shovelhead,Love your channel
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
Happy for ya dawg. Happy there’s still genuine and positive people out here. Shows being true to yourself and a drive or purpose can really change your life
Great video, I'm happy to see that you now Get It 👍
Your RV Park look like a fun place to stop for a couple of days.
Been through Hardy, Ark a few times. Great riding roads in that beautiful state
I rode from Seattle WA to San Diego CA on a 1956 Harley pan in 1971. Im taking my 46 Chief on a big trip soon as the fresh motor in broke in good.
So cool!
Looks like you guys had a blast... those are good memories. GLad you guys didnt have too many issues.. but thats part of the experience. Cheers from the Great White North 🇨🇦
I'm glad to see you on a Shovelhead I also have a 1977 Superglide FXE. It's my favorite to ride out of my 3 bikes that I have. Good luck God Speed.
Glad you enjoyed your stay at the #route62motorresort
Saw the pic of ya buying it at Mad River Harley. That's where I got my 08 Softail deluxe. Pretty cool I get to see where the bike went and your trip. Awesome!
Freaking awesome thanks for sharing! I can't wait to visit one of your campgrounds!
Hey Adam, put some Zmax fuel additive in the tank, may help on trip for sure. 70mph sounds a bit slow for the freeway lol. be safe
Good advice 👊🏼
I will be staying at your new route 66 resort when I go back to Eureka Springs and give it a try. I think the cabins are great. I definitely like the bike wash station! Great location in Eureka and boy the roads there are beautiful. Glad you like the new old bike.
Right on! Excited to have you stay with us!
Awesome trip! Looks like everyone had one of the best times you can have on a 70’s motorcycle. Great vid Adam. And Hello Mike And Cindy. ❤️❤️🇺🇸🤠🤙
This is what riding is all about to me. I’m getting my twenty yr old Harley ready for little trip to Acadia National Park in Maine and everything you said is why I stick with my old ride.
Edit: Rock straps are all I ever use and I’ve converted some of my bungy lover friends! ✌️
I’m kinda teary eyed here…The best kind of trip right there.
Looking forward to checking out the campground…resort!
Bro it's about the journey time and place for speed..like music sometimes you classical.
Adam that bike in front of your new sign needs to be in a pic. You couldn't of asked for a better sign, she is gorgeous. Take care brother. God Bless
Thanks! I’m so happy with how it turned out!
Never drove a shovel head, but I know they are not very dependable at all. I would’ve went with an evo late 90s. Shovel has definitely have the cool factor but those were the worst year Harleys. Glad you’re having fun. What an awesome trip.
Great video wish I was riding with you all. Amazing Rt.62 and everything to see and all the corners. Daaaam..
Loved seeing the roads and Yes That Resort sign looks AWESOME Adam.
Thanks!
Sounds like you know your bikes well 💯
I am a big shovelhead freak, that is when they still sounded like a HD, I had a1976 liberty edition flh for 21 years , ( not stock )😊
The shovel is the best sounding HD engine. That's what was on my 1st bike. '79 lowrider. Love those engines, but I can't put miles on em anymore. If u know, u know! Lol
Love the sound of the shovel but I'm partial to the Evo. I think Harley lost it's sound when they made the M8. Twin cam carbs still sound great too.
If you enjoy the old highways and all their "traps", I highly recommend the Lincoln Highway. Check it out. Americana the whole way.
I’ll have to check it out
If you really wanna have a good ride and you can make it to California take the old Highway 49. It goes from north to south or from south and north depending on which direction you’re going .It’s the most Beautifullest ride you’ll ever experience. it goes right up to Yosemite check it out
Nice!
I saw something and said man that looks familiar, then you said you were in hardy Arkansas, I was just there for the eclipse! Awesome little town!
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
Riding old bikes is a trip.
Nice variety! 💯
Adam I rode a 56 straight leg frame with 77 shovel motor and 48 hydra glide front end. Rode that bike all over the country for 12 years. You need tool kit with bolts nuts tape wire etc so you can fix most issues on the rode.
That must have been quite the experience
💯 agree!
I understand about riding something vintage, everything I rode seemed like it was vintage, always had to work on them, but nonetheless, always a good ride!
in the 1970's in Michigan Brown Beer Bottle returns were 2 cents and clear pop bottles were 5 cents
Hopefully you can make it sometime soon!
Sounds like fun!
@@adamsandoval Your motel looks real good, if I ever make to the states I'll try and drop in.
That shovel head sounds sweet just at ideal. My first HD was1984 feet super glide, brings back great memories. I even drove it in a snow strom.
Beautiful route to ride. Thanks for the video, and thanks for reppin’ the Regiment.
“Sua sponte”
The new 2025 line up looks killer man! The all new Transglide and the prideglide look sick man. They both come standard with a King/King seat and rainbow led underglow lighting.
And I love the new moniker!🏳️🌈
Hardly Gayvidson!🥰
My bike i ride was built in 1975. Got it in 84. Right now it's the only bike i ride. I still have it
Right on!
Glad to see you boy's a the bikes are doing ok thanks for the updates have a great week guys ok later ❤👌🇺🇸💪🏼🏁
Awesome 😮. As a Vet I cannot wait to be back in the saddle definitely going to take a trip from NJ
Awesome!
I put 38k on my first bike..1979 Sportster..!😎
I was 19 years old when I got it..great memories!
My old boss was at his car and I said how do you keep it so clean he said gasoline. He did all the painting at the shop .
Congrats on the new bike!
@adamsandoval thanks Adam, see you out there, if it's the last thing, I do...👊
I can relate to what you're saying, I have a 95 Fatboy and a 09 Roadglide, the older bike is just a better ride, but I did more work on the 95 like the seat, pully ratio to bring the vibration down and handle with a bat wing faring.
I had the same fuel cap problem on a 79 lowrider and cut new washers out of boot leather it worked amazing .
Cruising shovelheads........( NO COMPUTERS) That would be good UA-cam material....... You WILL be working on it alongside the road. And you will develop a followership of people like me who did that for years......
Adam, sooo good man. Nice ride. Only thing missing, was me doing it with you bro. Miss you.
Man brother I love that sign it is amazing and thanks for showing us that road I guess it’s another road I will have to put on my list to ride glad u guys made it safe and sound and that’s crazy he lost that bumper and didn’t even notice it gone very funny after fact love what u all do

I watched this video just because I saw the symbols on your shirt in the thumbnail. Motorcycling is awesome great video!
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
We talked to you about riding to Rocky point sitting up in Jerome . Still on the fence but tempted to do it .
Now that’s an awesome video brother!!
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
Yaaaaa Man it's just rollin in anything motorized with 2 wheels . ❤
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
Rode pans and shovels but I am Evo to the core. EVO’s forever
You definitely make some of the best road trip videos. Makes me want to get on the bike and go. Come on retirement 😎
I agree! We could all use 1 more trip!!
Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
