I did a purge of songs with lyrics that were too negative a while back, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of this one. It's too freakin' awesome. One of the first metal songs I ever heard and I still think it's amazing to this day.
I remember when otep was an up and coming band. Featured on the asleep by dawn cd/dvd as a hot topic exclusive. Ghostflowers was the video featured, good times
Met this band at a small venue called Jester's pub in Fayetteville, NC, along with Mushroomhead and Suicide City (bar is sadly gone), and the hotel party was so fun! Getting to interact with the real humans behind this awesome music was inspiring, and also a reality check as I refuse to commit to use my talents publicly with a contract. It's a real struggle to live their way of life, so appreciate their sacrifices to bring you great music
I think bands in this style will make a comeback. More emphasis on groove and feeling, than just the all out tech metal that's been prevalent the last decade.
My metalhead bus driver noticed that I was goth told her about the goth music I liked. She suggested me this band specifically this song. At first I didn't like it then let the song get to me. One of my favorite songs period. She is so underrated, but I prefer it that way, so us true fans can keep her for ourselves. I have seen her six times throughout California in the last 5 to 7 years, and she has never dissappointed, and gives her fans all of herself at each perfomance. Long Live Otep!!

I remember the first time I heard this...my jaw dropped at that first scream. I was like...that's a chick on vocals?!?!? I know there was probably some editing work done on the vocals in studio but it's still nuts how a girl can scream with such a low and deep vocal like this.
I was still in high school the first time I heard Otep back in like 01'-02', I remember going to their webpage and E-mailing Evil J as I had just started playing bass at the time. He actually wrote me back! He was nice and really inspirational, cool guys and gal. Shame I never got to see them in concert.
Some people are familiars,to badass to be from this world, she one of them.too smart and intelligent, and beautiful for most.she's a rarity and a blessing to behold.
I don't think I've seen such a massive vocal range on a metal singer. She can do all the regular high female vocals you'd expect as well as get as low on the scream as any guy. So cool.

What happened to this Otep. Have you heard their new shit? If you have, then I honestly am sorry you had to hear that shit. But THIS is the REAL Otep I love.
"House Of Secrets" was the best album for me(in terms of instrumental songwriting), but her type of screaming in the first album is completely untouchable.
I like her new album, not nearly as much as the older stuff but I still think it's good. It has a bigger sense of dread and despair where as this song has a big emphasis on anger and frustration.

Blood pig (x2)
I'm sorry, I'm ugly
All that I am and I can never live up
I'm failing, I'm angry
Afraid of the ways
They pretend to be us
It's fucked up, i'm different
Words remain my only escape
Art saves all of me, envolving
And now you're walking way
I'm so afraid
And now you're walking away
I'm so ashamed
Now you're walking away
[voodoo spell]
My mistake was trusting you
Blood pigs
With creating my fate
With poetry, and suffering
I cannibalized every ounce of my pain
I'm still afraid, everyday
These greedy worms
They devour my plagues
I'm not your slave
I'm conquering
You see me rise
And now you're walking away
I'm not ashamed
And now you're walking away
I'm not afraid
Now you're walking away
No
You can't hurt me anymore (x2)
Fed from the wound from which we were bleed
Vomiting filth in our soft cave heads
Chewing on tissue
Tendon and fat
Destroying the things they do not understand
Tyrant
Betrayer
Parasite
Traitor
And still you feed them
And still you need them
I'm sorry, I'm ugly
Dangerous
Can't describe it enough
I'm failing, I'm angry
I use my fear to empower my hate
I'm fucked up, I'm different
Words remain my only escape
Art saves all of me, envolving
And now you're walking away
I'm not ashamed
And now you're walking away

It's 2016 and bands like these don't even exist anymore...
mmm
Not may, its our gen, next gen music will be different, and so on...
I think bands in this style will make a comeback. More emphasis on groove and feeling, than just the all out tech metal that's been prevalent the last decade.
Nervosa" they;re savage as fuck!
i fukin wish...fuk todays music..its shit
my bus driver suggested me this band. at first I wasn't sure about this but I grew to love it
Is your bus driver otto??
@@jesusdurham2813 came here to ask the same question
For him with this song the bus becomes a space shuttle.
Wow blast from the past! I saw Otep support Drowning Pool in the UK in 2002... 21 years ago wow!
My metalhead bus driver noticed that I was goth told her about the goth music I liked. She suggested me this band specifically this song. At first I didn't like it then let the song get to me. I didn't even know that women do this. Now I love metal and wanna learn how to growl.
8 months later I actually met Otep and saw her live as my first concert. I still love both goth/punk and metal
Interesting Otep would be brought up when discussing goth music, considering this isn't goth.
Shudup
Alicel2ose All I listened to was goth music but now I listen to metal too. I used to hate it
@@lydiaminx666 You'd like Lacuna Coil then if you've never heard them
Tareck Fahmi I like some songs by them. I really love abnormality
She was so young here!
Yeah, she was! 23, I think! 😱🤘🤘🤘
best otep song ever....been listening to this jam for 10 years. much love.
This video, is when I fell in love with her music. Everything I was feeling, came through her words and she screams things I could not. Love her. All of her music. Sevas Tra. Truth.
I miss this old style otep we want evil j back
Also with Rob patterson , Mark bistany ( but to be honest i like brian wolff ) , and also karma cheema .
Now that line up will be badass !!!!!
jeff perry yea same here
Alot of new stuff shes made is just better tho
First time I listened to this song was when I was 12. I'm now 21 and this will forever be my favorite song by Otep!
this one of my favorite songs for when i'm directing my explosive hatred at an enemy
I remember the first time I heard this song it took me back to childhood and me an her can relate especially when she talks about feelings and daddy...it sad but she an yells music helped bring it to the surface long enough to face next thing I know me and my father now have the best relationship I could ask for because I understood his trauma and I forgave him...trauma can b the biggest slow killer worse than starvation and exposure to the worse outside experience just so u kno....I'll always luv my otep doll
Otep has been a supporter in my dark times. Im 26 and i feel like im 13 again back in dark place. Madam Shamaya if you see this. I thank you for keeping my alive. I almost took my live in front of my mother on mother's day. Between music and my woman there is nothing keeping to this world.
love her voice ^_^
One of the best vocalists of heavy metal history
back here in 2023 to announce this is still a masterpeice, along with the rest of the jihad ep and sevas tra
2022 and still sounding AWESOME!
This hits harder than my drunken step father🤟
Loooool felt
that was outta pocket
😂😂😳
Hitting the feels
break his jaw
2024, saw them at OzzFest almost 20 years. Even better live.
Back when I was managing a restaurant, whenever I would get especially frustrated I would play this on our speakers. Loudly. "Excuse me, can you repeat that? I don't think I can hear you."
how have i never heard this before this shit is metal
+Edward Martinez
They pretty much ban any real music on the radio!
THIS SHOULD HAVE 400 BILLION VIEWS. One of my fav metal songs and music videos of all time.
Bro!!! This song takes me all the way back to my high school years and I'm 36 now, I love you otep!😍
Her soul is beautiful. To be able to take such a wound and make angry and beautiful, raw music. Power babe.
just the best song for screaming along to after another shitty day on planet earth
Lmfao! 😂
She's such a bad ass powerful voice
Why can’t radios air this in 2021 😔
That is the voice of a Angel
Nah, this is more like a succubbus
First time I heard this song I was blown away 2019 still blown away
I've been a fan for a few years now and otep is still in my top 2 . this music really grabs at my core . Best wishes for Otep and the creativity that accompanies them . Sincerely , J. Peretti .
I'm so in love with the way you express yourself! I sent my husband to a men's desipleship to become a man of God! Ha ha he became extremely abusive after that and this song describes what I and many other women have gone through with an abusive lover 💔. It's perfect! Thank you
She is the all-time best female, no one else like her
Timeless classic, who said that nu metal is lame? This song is sheerly brutal, puts all deathcore to shame, compares to Suicide Silence's heavyness.
If you want brutal female vocals look up 13 Winters and Fear of God -- look up Betrayed by Fear of God. Dawn is a better vocalist with the tormented voices.
Thanks! I'll chek 'em out, but Otep Shamaya is an awesome vocalist too and they're a great band lml , there's lots of badass female singers these days, it's hard to pick one :p
Hey! It's Me! check out my friends Grigori 3 and We Are The Fallen -- 13 Winters, she can teach Otep how to growl. We Are The Fallen -- if you heard Rain Fell Within, you will love this. I grew up on the good shit from the early 1990s.
Hmm no
I've been listening to this beauty for 15 years now ❤️
Had to hear me some Dr. Otep.. always in my heart.
This, ghostflowers, and buried alive was among my jams in hs along with morbid, sworn and such.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
First song I ever heard by them. Best throwback ever.

When I was 15 I heard this for the first time 6 years ago now I’m 20
This might be one of the best Nu metal songs ever written
Forgot all about this song until today. Had the verse in my head for hours until I figured out it was OTEP. Still a badass song!
High school days
Can't believe I forgot about this band until right now
This makes me feel old as frik dude. I seen them at ozzfest in 2002 and 2004 they where awsome.
secondswell damn you old as hell bro . Only kidding, there is only the present :)
The '04 Ozzfst had a KILLER lineup
😍 there's so much literature on her lyrics
I saw Otep live at Donnigton in 2002 and this band was one of the reasons why I took a plane from Spain to enjoy that amazing and unforgetable event.
Aww the memories, thanks to my friend Vito who went to Ozzfest the year this album came out and handed it to me and said,"Put it in and just let it play" From that day forward I have been a fan and will always be and I am still listening in 2019. Thanks Vito 🤘🎸
Her vocals can still kick people's ass..Otep you need to revive Nu metal...Respect!!!!!!
She has a chino like scream
+Daniel DeMayo Deftones is my favorite band!
I never relized that but old deftones is still my favorite band all these years later. I never realized thats why i liked this
Not hardly
She raised us well.
This song brings me back 🤘🤘
I remember the first time I heard this...my jaw dropped at that first scream. I was like...that's a chick on vocals?!?!? I know there was probably some editing work done on the vocals in studio but it's still nuts how a girl can scream with such a low and deep vocal like this.
Dangerous can't describe it enough, love that rhyme
In this moment sounds like a more chill vocalist but sounds like her in some ways ❤❤❤ remember this song from back in my young teen years.
I was still in high school the first time I heard Otep back in like 01'-02', I remember going to their webpage and E-mailing Evil J as I had just started playing bass at the time. He actually wrote me back! He was nice and really inspirational, cool guys and gal. Shame I never got to see them in concert.
Keep rockin your bass @nordicbeast!
takes me back in the day!!😁
My QUEEN the boss love u otep shamaya
Some people are familiars,to badass to be from this world, she one of them.too smart and intelligent, and beautiful for most.she's a rarity and a blessing to behold.
Saw this band on a tour for this album in Myrtle Beach,SC.Great show
Can't believe that's a girl doing those vocals. Amazing!
I don't think I've seen such a massive vocal range on a metal singer. She can do all the regular high female vocals you'd expect as well as get as low on the scream as any guy. So cool.
Trug0d Lol. All this coming from someone with a name like trugod. duh. You sure are.
Trug0d yeah well i think Eluveitie suck ass from a straw and you don't see me sending hate msg on their song so fuck you!=P
Trug0d says who!?
Says the dude who probably reported my second comment to get it removed when I put his sissy ass to shame and only has himself to like his own bullshit comments. :)
this is how I feel when I get my period lol xD
Lol I feel the same xD
Best comment I've seen about this song xDD
Im literally on the first day of my period and HAD to listen to this lol
😂
@@maddieholt383 obviously not even the worst day . Don't worry, they will get less .brutal as you age.
I saw them at OzzFest 2002 and they were one of the best acts that day.
I don’t even listen to metal like that, but Satan damn that was good!🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Lots of pain in this shit. Must be a real reason why it kicks so much ass.
What happened to this Otep. Have you heard their new shit? If you have, then I honestly am sorry you had to hear that shit. But THIS is the REAL Otep I love.
she cold have harmed her voice with the screams.. c: idk though.
It's you the shit
"House Of Secrets" was the best album for me(in terms of instrumental songwriting), but her type of screaming in the first album is completely untouchable.
I miss this Otep so much
I like her new album, not nearly as much as the older stuff but I still think it's good. It has a bigger sense of dread and despair where as this song has a big emphasis on anger and frustration.
She spits better than most rappers.😎
Otep I would NEVER disrespect you like that. You're boss AF.
I still love the fuck out of this song.
