  • On Friday 10th May 2024 Planet Earth was hit by the strongest geomagnetic storm since 2003 with several CME's (Coronal Mass Ejections) from our Sun hitting our atmosphere and was graded a G5 and said to be the strongest recorded ever of the modern era. This lead to a display of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) registered at a KP9 which meant that a large area of the northern hemisphere witnessed a fabulous light show.
Here in the UK the phenomenon was seen pretty much everywhere that had a clear sky and for me it was something an opportunity to watch for the very first time in my life. What I witnessed was amazing and it was hard to know what part of the sky to look and point the camera at as it was all around. I took a lot if images of the event in a local field over 2 hours and also recorded some time-lapse videos which captured the movement of the light.
I have put together this short sequence which I hope you will like showing the colourful light as it danced across the night sky over my home town of Torquay. So sit back and enjoy this remarkable display.

    Thank you for watching.
