I’m a semi-retired mechanic, machinist, and large scale circle sawmill sawyer/owner. Through people like you , hopefully , future generations will gain the knowledge needed to DIY. Trades aren’t taught in high school anymore unfortunately.
I’m hitting the big 40 this year. I’m really lucky that there were a lot of guys like you around when I was a younger man, so I could learn from those older guys who really knew what they were doing.
We’re losing skills every generation. When I judge myself, I know I'm not nearly as skilled as the men who I trained under. Each generation is facing a net loss of skilled Machinists. It’s a scary thought, really.
I think way back to the generation before you. Guys who used Vernier Tape and didn’t even have pocket calculators. We’re still relying on the giants who went before us.....
Almost every day I encounter a problem and think back about my mentors who showed me tricks and tips when I first started out.
“That’s how Randy would have done it.”
“Yep, old Steve would do it this way.”
“I remember Stan showing me this.”
There were a core 3 or 4 men who really invested into my life and I’m really thankful for it. Some of them have passed on now. Find a young person who’s interested and try to show them all you can. I know they’ll appreciate it.
I use anti seize. You would use loctite only if the bearing has a loose fit in the bore. Those bearings should be replaced with a better quality bearing when it's brand new out of the box.
The bearings go in with less brutality if you have them in the freezer overnight and warm up the plate on the grill. haha.
Another thing about this is that many of us are putting some power onto them. Comet rated the 30 series to 8 HP. Some guys are running double that and not always with the best gearing. So it should be no surprise when things wear or break sooner than you think they should.
Urgently needing the size of that spacer !! Currently trying to replace as I lost on a ride!
U happen to remember how you reinstalled the driven assembly? the shaft for the driven on my tc has a lip and one bearing will go on but the other one wont.
It’s too bad I couldn’t see a picture of yours and what’s going on with it. The shaft should go right through these bearings easily assuming the spacer is lined up between the bearings. There’s a snap ring that you install at the end of the shaft that keeps it from pushing all the way through.
What size bearings ?
Is there a part number for the bearing?
6003rs is what he said
Where did you get that bearing spacer from?
Hi, that spacer came original to this torque converter. If you don’t have one, I’ll try to look around and see if I have a spare so you can get a measurement
Did you ever find out where to get the spacer from?
Following !!!
I have two ebay torque converters from different sellers. One came with the spacer and one did not. I'm just running it with new bearings without the spacer. Going to be a wait and see.
how long is that spacer for the bearings?
For a man who has 3 presses, I have to wonder why you’re hammering on a socket to press in a bearing ?
A lot of people watching don’t always have access to a press. Sometimes it’s good to show people a way they can do an easy job like this at home.
Millions of bearings in the last hundred years have been installed like this. It isn’t hurting it.
If I can help show some kid watching UA-cam how to replace some bearings on his mini bike at home, that’s the goal I had.
Thanks for watching and for the comment
You’re absolutely right and thank you for your informative channel
@@DrewSawyerMayor you’re welcome and thanks again. Hopefully I didn’t come across as a stinker in my reply lol
