I don’t really understand why people are trying to compare Fuji to Leica. An XT100 Vi is a third of the price of a Q3. An XT5 is a third of the price of a Leica M11. The premium Fuji 1.4 lenses are a FIFTH of the price of Leica lenses. Of course the Leica system is superior, it would be ridiculous if it wasn’t for the price. I have a Fuji xt5 with various Fuji lenses and two Voigtlander manual lenses, 18mm f2.8 Ultron and 27mm f2 Ultron. I love using the VG lenses with the xt5 but I’ve never expected this set up to challenge the Leica system. It’s a hobby for me and I couldn’t justify the cost of a Leica system unless I was making money from it. Unless you’re a professional be happy with what you have. Ps. If I win the lottery I’ll buy Leica!

Nothing special about Leica. It is just a Western company trying to produce precision goods which is always going to be a slow, painful and expensive process. The Far East can just match the quality with far greater productivity hence much lower prices.

I sold the X100V to buy the X100VI: I am quite happy with it and see absolutely no difference in build quality…although there seem to be more menu options and you often forget where items are in the menu adding to the already high complexity. But this is just the evolution of the Fuji approach where everything is customisable.
The camera is faster, focus tracking is misleading as some stated as it really doesn’t focus where it says it is, and 40 mpix is unnecessary in my opinion.
I wish they made it full-frame as my next camera could be the Pixii Max…although I wish that had an EVF…

@@skakrewlike a MacBook Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Pro 4? All seem pretty superb to me…..all made in China. I’ve just visited the country and its key infrastructure like roads, trains, airports puts the U.K. and US to shame.
My X100VI went on the trip too. A breeze to use, after I spent an hour learning how to set it up and getting used to the over complex menus. My Q settings all work fine and gave me superb results. There was one out of focus shot in 1000+. That was my fault as I’d accidentally moved from S to C taking it from the bag and rushed to grab a shot, not allowing the focus box to go green.
Yes, having had a play with a Q3 in a dealer, it’s superb, but larger, heavier and so expensive. For street photography it’s shouts out ‘mug me’ as much as a Rolex watch. I wouldn’t use either in London at the moment….

Can't identify with your point of view. I have X100VI, X-H2 and X-H2S and 18 Fujifilm XF lenses and 3 non Fuji manual lenses. I am interested in the images I get as well as the user experience. I have been photographing for 50+ years, and I have no issues using Fuji gear. I am sure that the Leica is a great product (I owned one of them), but all this BS about "quality" is a waste of time. If you don't like focus peaking, then switch it OFF! Duh! There are other options available. If you want to shoot Voitlander manual lenses then why buy an AF camera system? I just don't get that. But if you did then why moan about it, after all nobody forced you to buy Fuji!

I am a very long time Pro - 36 years in the game - we went all in on Fuji GFX some years ago - I was even an ambassador for them a long time in the past - (film days) but when we got to the GFX100II - after a long time with the GFX100 (which was great) something didn't feel right - I can't even explain it - then we decided to get the new 110mm T+S Macro and the 30mm T+S and we were very disappointed - so much complexity - too much complexity - and then there are the menus' and then there are the colours - colours that we we cant seem to make right - we can make them funky monkey all day long - but its all a bit gimmicky in the very real world of commercial production - I am sure for film makers they are the bomb - anyway long story cut short - we are now Hasselblad X series all day long - we spent some serious ££'s - but it is a breath of fresh air - so simple -In my professional opionion if anything Hasselblad is the new Leica!!! And they are doing it better!!!!!

I had similar experience. I found the gfx to look and feel like Lego built it. Colour is weird, menus suck, but lens choice and price are excellent compared to Hasselblad. I ended up getting an X1D-50c original like new with the classic 45mm 3.5 and I cannot complain at all. Colour is much more natural. A 2016 camera that still looks futuristic, is as simple to e as a film camera, beautiful screen (average evfbut works fine), small, light, hand built all metal. We don't often need any of the new upgrades to cameras. Image quality is difficult to differentiate and older cameras work just as well as new ones generally. Hasselblad colour is what really swayed me. They bough Imacon when they moved to digital and Imacon had a billion colour database from their scanner technology. That's how Hasselblad made their colour so good

After 6 years of Panasonic MFT and FF, I stepped into Fujifilm with a NOS X-T3 last year. I loved that camera so much I collected the X-E1, X-M1, the X-T1, the X-H1 at cheap prices to compare the sensors. Even an ultra cheap X-A3 (because it's beige) that makes lovely photos as well. My recent 'upgrade' to the X-T5 was a big mistake. I never had so many bad images. That camera is a bad joke.

For me, all the statements they made sounded more like excuses covering up the delusion they mentioned a while back.
It feels like they’re desperately attempting to fit into a mold that doesn’t suit them, sacrificing their unique identity in the process.
Instead of staying true to their strengths and what their loyal customers love about them, they’re chasing trends and losing sight of their roots.

As a Canon shooter, back in 2015 I wanted a second Camera, so I entered the world of FujiFilm when I purchased the X-T1. Since that day, I started to dive deeper into the FujiFilm world. X-T1, X-T2, X-T4, X-T5, and GFX 100S. And more than 12 lenses. However, it is when I tried the Leica Q and M systems, I became aware of what the FujiFilm system is lacking. The soul. They borrowed someone’s else’s soul. And lost their original identity. Leica is not done. Shooting with Leica can’t be compared with anything else in this life.

Try the original Canon EOS-1, possibly with its motor drive. Add on a few of the original EF L lenses from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Simplicity, superb build, water resistant, and in my experience maybe one incorrect exposure of slightly out of focus shot per 1000 clicks. Even on fussy slide film like Provia and Velvia.
There is a reason why the EOS1 changed professional photography.
Today, 34 yrs after I bought my first one, it still works perfectly.
Only the 5D mk 3 or 4 come close nowadays but at least I can still use all my lenses. The R series are very plastic in comparison.

The focus peaking, I like. Because I do not want it to go away when I half-press the shutter. I want it to stay. But I have another Problem with manual focus : I cannot use the "zoom in" or "punch in" feature in focus peaking because it will overexpose "simulate" the image to a point that it is completely white on my Fuji X-H2, ever since the latest updates. That made me sad and annoys me tbh.
However, I do not get the Leica VS Fujifilm comparisons: Leicas are a completely different camera to Fujifilm - and not just in price and build quality. Fujifilm produce hybrid cameras and not photo-centric cameras, like Leica. Ever since the beginning Leica revolutionised the photography scene with the "Ur-Leica" and set 35mm as the standard, they have been a photo-centric camera company.
Personally, I do not see a need for Leica cameras. I feel they are too heavy and, with the exception of the Q and M series, not really special. Yes I used them as I know people that have them. Maybe I have to own a Leica to learn to appreciate them. But I cannot shoot video with those. So I need something else for that anyways.
But in essence: the camera you have on you is the best to capture the moment in front of you! The camera does not matter as all of them have quirks. You just have to pick the camera that has the least amount of "no-gos". And, no one will be able to turn a Leica into a Fujifilm camera or vice versa - so we need to embrace the camera for what it is. We have to learn the camera we are using, so we can use them efficiently and capture the moment as it happens!

As a long-time Fujifilm user I can say is this: Fujifilm has all the potential to become the second choice after Leica.
But their lack of real-time progression keeps the professionals away from their X systems. Users want their brand of choice to be on par with the best in the market.
It takes a lot more being one of the best camera brands on the market. Apart from their GFX medium format series, the majority of Fujifilm cameras are not surpassing the status of mediocre. Bringing out yet another X-T50 doesn’t bring anything significant on the table as far as their existing user base concerns.
I just got my Leica Q3 and I can confirm that there is no real-world comparison between the two brands. Yes, even Leica cameras aren’t perfect and one can argue what’s the practical use of a Leica compared to brands like Sony, a Nikon, Hasselblad or what have you.
But Leica didn’t become the brand they are today if they didn’t address most practical issues that Fujifilmis suffering from these days. Yes, their X-100 series are a hit, but not even close to a Leica M and Q series in terms of build quality and practically.
I quess it would be a wise move for Fujifilm to just continue what they’re doing now, but addressing all of the issues users have today. If they do, there’s not reason to jump to Leica for the majority of their users.

The thing Fuji excels at most imo is their marketing, targeting trendy hipsters with plenty of disposable income. As their ever more confusing/overlapping line up expands, all they do is add a few new bells & whistles to the latest model, whilst craftily removing some other desirable features. Consequently many Fuji buyers feel compelled to buy/sell, or simultaneously own two or more Fuji models to cover all bases, when they could’ve just bought a Leica in the first place😊

I resent Fujifilm now. I owned 3 of their cameras, and quite a few lenses. The AF is/was a disaster. No amount of PR is going to fix that! The build quality on the X-T20 was not good at all, and the camera was falling apart in no time. The X100F had AF and 'glow' at F2 I did not appreciate... so sold it.
I was contemplating giving them another chance and ordered the X100VI... in March. It is soon the middle of July and no sign of the camera yet...Mind you I still have mixed feelings (resentment) when it comes to the price of this camera... Was looking for an alternative, as a throw-in-the-bag small camera I can carry around always, no matter which bag I am taking. Was looking at the X10, X20 or X30... and decided to go for the X30. The black version I like is currently on MPB for 809€!!!!!!! A 10 year old camera should not cost double the price it was when new...
Whatever Fujifilm is doing, it is alienating many people, including me. I personally see these moves more like blunders, if a company thinks of itself as too successful or too good. There are many that look at the success of Fujifilm and want to copy it, so I do not give it much time that there will be suitable alternatives.

My mind is not blown. This is not an objective review. Whatever the rights and wrongs they are different systems for different people and purposes. As an optical engineer I could comment about the technical merits of their respective autofocus and colour rendition, as a photographer I can comment that all that matters is what the eye of the beholder sees when they look at a print on the exhibition wall. They are cameras guys - get over it!

Even they got caught out with the massive surge in demand for the X100VI. Had mine as a pre order on launch day. It’s small, nicely made and has worked perfectly so far.
Fuji menu system is pants compared to Canon but hey…it’s a one off buy for me.
All my other gear is Canon including pro 35mm and DSLRs. Amusingly the little old M3 and 5 with the tiny 22mm F2 lens gives a lot of expensive new cameras a run for their money. Dirt cheap now second hand but simple to use and both give excellent results.

Excellent summary of the state of FUJIFILM from a technical perspective, Tudor. I have a quote from MPB and plan to sell my newest gen cameras. Since I bought the Nikon Zf I am content with manual focus needs. I will keep my X-T30ii as my small body. I don’t own a Leica. Let me ask you though - I have a GX9. For street I prefer the small form factor, fast touch to focus and the ease of use. This could make the x-t30ii redundant. Have you used Gx9 with manual focus? If so what’s your favorite lens?

The current camera market is a big mess. There are no big innovations, milking and screwing of existing customers, unattractive sales policy with camera lenses and hardly any specialist shops to get information for testing and feeling cameras and lenses. That's why I'm probably going to turn my back on classic photography. To be honest, the only real innovations in recent years have been in the area of smartphone photography.

Well, first Fujifilm needs to go back to the GFX-R camera and update it to the GFX 100/2 tech. The rumored X-Pan Fujifilm camera is a probably a good step. Fixing the AF would be a good step. Stepping up the Pro Services for quick repairs would be great. They need to overhaul the menu system all together and steal the Hasselblad menu UI. Next Fuji should release manual lenses with the data transfer chips/contacts.

I really love he concept of fuji, especially with the x pro (bought a 2 recently), and with the "everyday carries" x t30 and xe line. They built a niche market for themselves. Sure it was inspired by leica, but they managed to do their own different thing. But if they want to become a loved brand like leica, they really need to take a step back on the engineering they have been doing recently. First, I know every camera including leicas have their problems, but the ribbon nightmare of the x pro 3, and the fact that they didnt recognised the issue and failed to provide e definitive fix is just unnacceptable for a premium market. Next, I think they shouldnt replace the older, smaller and with the mf clutch lenses with the ones they are releasing now. I know some people prefer them, but the fact is that a lot of people, including myself, still opt for the older ones. For some (if not most) fuji is about size, weight and mechanics. I mean they are different beasts for different people, so keep both. Yes I know for a mainstream brands like canonikon it is a problem, but we are in premium niche territory now, and a lot of non japanese brands for different types of products (I name fender as a non photography example) do it.

Sounds like Fuji company need to get Gareth Southgate working for them stick to old tried ways not too many modifications or changes play it safe and they might just score a goal. But seriously I feel they should look back at what they were producing 10 years ago people don't mind paying a premium for quality that means no plastic my xt4 feels good well made satisfying to use quality! Ditto x70 xt10 xpro1 don't over complicate things keep it simple yes faster af faster systems are good better than more MPs give us control enough customisable buttons but scarcity??? Means lost sales customers may become frustrated and look elsewhere I'm not a fan of exclusiveness Rolex will tell you the time but so will other watches as equally reliable and well made cheaper I'm in agreement with you Tudor Fuji have to think hard where they are going they got where they are now building well made innovative cameras easy to use with a touch of nostalgia at a good price I hope they stay on that road all the best
