- Good news for Canon EOS-M camera users! Viltrox has released a 33mm prime lens with autofocus, manual aperture control, and a large f/1.4 aperture for nearly half the price of Canon's 32mm f/1.4 EF-M lens. But is it worth the money?

Hello! I'm about to purchase a new lens for my M50, but I'm not really sure if this lens has a better image quality than the 50mm 1.8 from canon. Aperture is really good, but do you think is sharper?
Thanks Todd. Glad to see you've not forgotten about your M50.
I took a plunge on the 23mm after looking for a low cost upgrade from the kit lens for my m50. I had my eye on the Sigma for a while, but seeing this arrive on the scene right as I was in the market for an upgrade, it was too good a deal to pass up. It's been a great lens for me and my amateur photography/filmmaking. Loving the wide aperture. Noticing that the autofocus is slower for me than what you showed in the video, but it's highly likely there's some good reason for that that I'm unaware of. Thanks for these great reviews!
One of my favorite channels on youtube right now! You are a legend Todd! Thanks for creating such a great content!
I’m a Sony user, but uhh man I like to see your videos and reviews, it’s just amazing.
I do like your color grading and how you pop up the textures of your videos , I would like to see a tutorial of the entire process of your videos 👍🏻
From your experience Todd, if the slight savings was not a factor - which lense would you choose for image quality between the Viltrox and Sigma 30mm?
Just got mine delivered from viltrox store and am loving it! Great lens for family portraits.
Thanks for clearing up the "fixed lens" I thought there was a typo in the amazon description. Great audio BTW.
Been praying for the right lens , this is my exact camera with the exact lens that’s perfect for what I’m looking for..THANK YOU
So if I understand right, this lens actually converts to a 53mm? I have a nifty fifty with a EF to M adapter and I’ve been looking options to get my first “wide angle” lens. I’ve been looking for a 35 mm to open up my creativity. But i haven’t been able to decide on anything. Do you have any recommendations that will actually be 35 mm? Great video! New sub.
Hey Todd. Nicely done. I do love the sigma 30mm but this looks really nice. I really like the manual aperture ring! I’m used to having iris control on video cameras. By the way, what mic did you use for this video? Great natural sound. Thanks. Ed
Thanks Ed. I'm using the Rode Lavalier Go. It's a good mic because it doesn't over process my voice like cheaper lav mics I've used.

@@dominey - very nice. I use that mic too with the Wireless Go. I thought yours sounded cleaner than mine. Thanks much!
I’m itching to buy this lens great review and good content👌🏽. I do street interviews and other types of video content at night and the kit lens just doesn’t cut it. Way too much grain and noise for night time settings but that F1.4 will be perfect for my night scenes🔥. Might buy this this week
You really helped me understand the different problems that i experience using this lens on my M50, now i can operate my camera with better results.
Thank you for this video Todd.
Thank you for your videos. And I love that other manufacturers or keeping the M line alive. Any plans on comparing the Sigma and Viltrox 56mm lenses? Would love to see a comparison on these. I always use your comparison videos before purchasing my lens. Got the canon 32mm and absolutely love it.
Got me one ordered on 5-4-2021 from your link and really enjoyed the 10% off coupon, thanks!
I'm torn between getting the Viltrox AF 33mm f/1.4 or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4....What do you recommend? I'm using a Sony ZVE-10.
Interesting its like every company is investing in the ef-m line other than Canon lmao
Right?
🤣
I know it's not photography related but that yellow jacket is super cool
You've reviewed both the Sigma and Canon lenses, do you still have them? Is there a chance you could do a back to back. We know the Viltrox is cheaper than either but how does it compare for autofocus, clarity, etc... I think most of us would decide if the price savings is worth it depending on those results. I currently have the Canon 30mm but it's resale value is quite crazy so if the Viltrox was close then I could sell the Canon and buy two lenses!
I really wander know what camera and lens you use in this video of introduction ? The blurring effect is awesome 🎉
Kinda convinced I can start off a freelancing photography career with the canon m50 and these third party lenses, these are GREAT IMAGES!
Todd - love the channel, thank you for the great - and very useful - content. Did you use ND filters when capturing this video? If so, what value(s)?
Do you know if they have a black version yet? Thanks
Haven't heard of anything.
Your channel is so good man, thanks for ur work. My go to channel now coz i dont have heaps of money to chuck into camera gear and you unearth things like this lens and show its capabilities 👍🏽👍🏽 also you explain things so well. Thanks again, def gna buy ☺️
Thank you for the review, confirmed my decision to buy this beast (and also for the coupon code obvs). Subscribed.
Hi Todd, Do you know what the cable port on the lens is to do the firmware update? I can't seem to find this information anywhere. Thanks!
great video... i recently bought a m50 to check out if it's a camera i could refer to friends and family as the price seems to drop recently quite a bit (430€ with kit lens) and as all beginners tend to aim for that 500€/$ mark i was curious if these affordable viltrox lenses are any good - your review conviced me!
Fascinating location Todd. Informative and really stylish review. Your video wasn't out at the time, so I chose the Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is about £24 dearer than the Viltrox and nearly half the price of the Canon 32mm f1.4, which is a better lens but not twice as good. I'd be interested in your review of the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and whether it is worth buying the fast lens, as I already own the Canon 22mm f2 native prime?
What did you decide on? I have the canon 22m and am debating on the viltrox 23
@@alexquencholara33 Hi Alex, like you I have the Canon 22mm at present but I will be investing in the Viltrox 23mm when funds permit. I also have an Olympus MFT set up as MFT is better at somethings and vice versa, and I've bought an Olympus lens with this month's wages, so cannot do both. But next month I hope to buy the Viltrox, unless any unexpected bills arrive for the car/automobile or house. Fingers crossed.
@@apislapis I get you ! I just ordered the viltrox 33. Hoping to do tiny photography jobs to offset the cost of gear 😂
Thank you, very comprehensive and practical. I’m getting back into photography. I’m gonna get a canon m200, and this nifty lens. Because of your video I know just how to use it
Great video-love the channel. I feel like Fujifilm colors/cameras would match your style, can we get them to send you a few cameras!?!?!?!
Wouldn't that be wonderful! :) Perhaps someday.
This would be great for the M50 with its one selector dial set to shutter speed giving you two adjustable setting dials 😊
Thank you for video. From Russia with love.
Nice video. Would you say 1st Sigma, 2nd Canon, 3rd Viltrox?
It's a tough call because cost is an important factor. Qualitatively? I think the Canon 32mm has the edge, but perhaps not enough to warrant 2x the cost.
@@dominey Understood. Thank you!
Sir in my country the sigma is at the same price of this viltrox so should I get this lens instead of the sigma. I really like the metal build of the viltrox. Thank you very much sir.
Get the viltrox.
@@APhan26 thank you for your reply but I've recently switch to sony because the I'm starting to do more demanding work. But the M50 is still a very capable device if you get good lenses for it, and it still produces a more natural skintone than sony out of the box in my opinion. Have a nice day.
hi. im a beginner and im wodering if i should go for the 22mm or the 33 mm. remember im complete beginner
Thanks for this!
Thanks .
Those 3 silver f/1.4 prime lenses could look great on the new Nikon Z fc if Viltrox decides to adapt them for the Nikon Z mount.
Thank you!!!
Viltrox needs to make the silver versions available for the nikon Zfc right now!!
Why did I watch these dolls right before bed?
Great video would you be able to make a review with this setup on a zhiyun crane m2 gimbal.
Don't have any plans to buy a Crane right now, but if that changes will post something.
I live in North GA would you be interested in making a review if I lend it to you?
wow didnt know you live in atlanta.... gwinnett fanboy here lol. stay safe.
Indeed!
Works in the original eos m?
I see they have a 23mm F1.4 as well, and not much more extra cost.
Indeed they do.
wait until they released the 13mm sometimes this year Q1..
Why silver, but it looks pretty cool.
👏👏👏
I would consider skipping this lens just because of the 1980's bad robot coloring (if it was the only 30-33 f/1.4 I'd buy it but it isn't). The silver doesn't match the M6's coloring either or I'd give it a pass. It's just ugly IMO.
Why does it have to be silver
I don't like it because is silver and not black as the Canon one :/
a bit late for halloween. but its ok lol
Lol - I thought the same, but hey.
is this the guy from dark lol
JUST GET THE 50MM 1.8 EF FULL FRAME LENS AND $50 ADAPTER TUBE, WILL BE LESS EXPENSIVE AND GIVE BETTER RESULTS! ABOUT $150 VS $270
but that's 50mm not 33mm
duh!
Lol when we start naming forests after the kinds of human garbage you can find in them....
Forget the lens wtf is this location some abandoned hospital or something
