I just want to apologize if it is loud and a lot for some of you, but this is how I react when I’m extremely excited and truly enjoying something. This is just how I felt about IU’s song and music video with V, it was an overwhelming amount of happiness because it was so good and sadness all at the same time, because it was so sad. So fair warning and full disclaimer. I am sorry for our screams!

The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Enjoy react with you so much. IU took care of V like an elder sister, so protective of him. Always hold his hand and went into an unknown place first. V’s behaviors are innocent and playful just sooo ‘childishly cute’. Even in the ‘wedding’ part, V’s facial expressions are just like a little boy. I think that’s why at the end when the ‘cube’ came to them, IU did not hesitate to stand in front of V and determined to fight. The Box represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on outside when they don't have make-up on or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is just messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died previously because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then we can see through the lens of the camera they're using after V eats that cake, we see that they are immersed in this illusion to the point the room is filled with people, but as it is an illusion people don't have faces, they would just party and beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Box (society) finds them again and push them to retreat again, but the Box managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up, but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died, they loved each other deeply. It shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from BTS's MV Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can see them happy and free where they are right now...

The 'pile of clothes' in Spring Day was a metaphor for loss and longing; RM said it was inspired by the loss of a friend, but also the Bong Joon Ho movie 'Snowpiercer' and the book 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' by Ursula K. Le Guin; and though there are links that imply a connection to the Sewol Ferry disaster, BTS have never confirmed it.
The artistic imagery of the pile of clothes BTS MV producers used is in homage to the artistic installation 'Personnes' by Christian Boltanski, 2010. An installation which speaks of souls who weren't ready to die, but died painfully ~ the implication being at the hands of others. In this case, in the IU MV, the 'hands' being society in the way it mocks (as in the faceless figures in the banquet scene IU and Taehyung fight off), marginalises and discards those disabled or not born 'perfect' to fit in the 'normal' box (the box that is chasing them).

V’s behaviors are innocent and playful just sooo ‘childishly cute’. Even in the ‘wedding’ part, V’s facial expressions are just like a little boy. I think that’s why at the end when the ‘cube’ came to them, IU did not hesitate to stand in front of V and determined to fight. Originally Christian Boltanski built a pile of clothes with small piles of clothes around it and with a crane that would slowly pick up the clothes from the smaller pile and add it to the bigger one. So in the music video the clothes represent all the people who have died, that after we are gone we are all just a pile of clothes. Christian says "When the clothes are falling down its very optimistic. Like souls, they are free". So for me that makes the ending so much more profound.
