Thank you for your videos. Victoria 3 is my first Victoria game and your videos have helped me go from playing bankruptcy simulator to playing "spit in the general direction of the British because they keep taking my steel" simulator.
Some good tips, but I think the complexity of the game doesn't lend itself well to making suggested choices on some of these laws. For example, you advised on the middle three for the taxation system because they can make you the most money, and you're correct on that, but revenue isn't the only concern. Graduated Taxation has been a loss of revenue in every game I've played, when compared to Proportional Taxation, but in some cases it is absolutely the right choice. A graduated taxation system aggressively affects the upper strata, while taxing lower strata much less (hence the lesser revenue). But as a result, you will see a declining standard of living for the upper strata, eventually leading to a decreased size of the population belonging to that bloc, and a reduction of the political power the upper strata wields as a result (and the inverse is true for the lower strata). This can lead to other laws becoming more likely to pass. If, for instance, you really want to pass work laws but can never get enough political support for it, then this taxation system may eventually push support in your favour. Essentially every taxation system in the game will affect the political power of your different pops, so rather than simply being a list of 'more-money' buttons, they are more a list of directions you wish to push your nation.
Graduated taxation does give you more tax income if your population is very wealthy since it has a larger tax on capital income and smaller on wage income.
@@ruukinen Yeah, that makes sense. And I probably haven't witnessed it because in the games where I consider it an option I'm already aggressively nerfing the wealthiest in my society. As a side note, I've been working on a Great Qing game and that has given me a bit more insight on the tax laws. Land-based taxation is king for pure tax-take even up to the mid-game because out of a population of 330 million, you have around 330 million peasants. That should probably be expected, but I definitely thought the scales would be tipped when I reached the heavy industrialisation and consistently double digits SoL.
@@rikiba851 The tipping point is fairly early since subsistence farming is like 1/5 as profitable as the lowest value produce, Qing and other high population, low tech countries take longer to get to that point but inevitably you want to get off land based taxation since the majority of your economy will be people who don't own a plot of land.
10:00 thanks, that's what i needed. I was Brazil trying to up my Bureaucracy, but people kept taking my paper, so my government was limited by my supply of paper. I could build more government administration, but it wouldn't help. Then, the more I made paper, the more others bought. I had tariffs set to charge them extra, but they were ignored.
Same thing happened to me when I first played lol. There is so much useful information hidden in the game, it's the worst thing about Paradox games overall.
I've been playing a mexico game all weekend. And I'm not entirely sure what happened but I pressed some buttons and now my people have electrical trains and I pressed more buttons in the food industry and within a second I went from a neutral balance to over 100k positive balance. And I have around 300 construction sectors 😅. I'll most likely finish this game pretty soon as the end date is getting close lol. And this is my best game yet. And I'm still a couple million points off from being number one in GDP.
As Sokoto I was able to join the British Coston union and made serious bank. I became the 12th most powerful nation after I took over Africa interior and most of Egypt.
Love the videos, but would you consider do a tutorial playing as a minor country such as argentina, i couldn't aply some of the concepts of your videos because 1 i am very noob, and 2 while playing as a minor country i had difficulty establishing a good construtcion base so taking forever to develop my economy.
Raising up your taxes to high is probably one of the worst things that you can do in the game and only should be done in desperation when you have no other options for increasing your capital, it's severely damages the pops capability to improve their own lives thus making economic growth in general harder. Having low taxes and consumption taxes on luxury goods it's probably a better way of doing it, there are reasons for having high tax on ie you've got your country f***** by War and you need a cash injection to stabilize things. But generally speaking you want to be striving to lower taxes. If you have a gold Reserve it's okay to be running a deficit as long as you can get that deficit rectified before you start going too far into the red
Raising taxes is the last thing you want to do for improving economy. Because it does exactly the opposite. My approch is raise taxes only if my gold reserve is less than 70% or so. Otherwise I'm running the lowest tax possible. My GDP as Italy is the same as Austria even though it has twice my population.
If you decrease military and government wage it affects your pops. They will gain less money and become less powerful and vice versa. If you want to have a strong intelligentsia then have strong government wages, same goes for military and armed forces.
Politics is frustrating because everyone loves going to shorty interest groups and my favorite country Sweden has weird IG leaders and nobody starts out happy lol
Radicalism is the most braindead thing ever. i am sitting here with 10% of my country being radical yet i have the best standard of living in the world 23 while the 2nd is 19
Maybe they’re part of an interrest group you’ve pissed off, I tend to completely screw over the landholders and make them radicalise hard as a result because I don’t want their shitty medieval laws

I liked that Jumbo explained (simplified) the tax system in fewer words. You both mean the same thing, but express it in two different ways.
In the end game you can spawn the cookie dragon and the cookie apocalypse.

These tutorials are fantastic as they teach the why along with the how.
this is exactly the video i have been dying for as a first time paradox gamer. thanks boss
Thank you for these tutorials, I really suck at Vic 3 so it's good to have these

I removed a lot of barracks early on as they are fast to build when needed this saved raising taxes.
the navy morale bug is keeping me from playing, but i still watch these videos

really good video! sadly the early patches will jumble everything up and we’ll need an overhauled tutorial quite soon
Thank you!
Thanks for these videos!
By far the most challenging Paradox game. Why couldn't CS2 have an economy half as good as V3.
When you get the chance organize these videos into a playlist for my lazy ass! :D

The only thing i could not understand-why its always never enough conwoys if i already have free conwoys?!
Trade route need some amount of convoys to upgrade for next level. So you have 10 free convoys and trade routs wants 20 == not enough convoys message.
