@kuhwuped I've only used it for two days, but I'm really liking it so far. No problems aside from the fan running a lot. What glitches have you heard about?
@MrYungKdogg they are gaming laptops. But that doesn't mean they ONLY do gaming well, they are also good for graphic design, video editing, etc, because they tend to have a lot of power. Alienware doesn't specifically have a art/graphics/video computer at the moment.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned this or not on here but there is a removable battery, all you have to do is take off that back plate and the battery comes out and can be replaced or upgraded. that is also how you change the RAM and HDD.
@themangodess you'd prefer it go on earlier? normally i don't do this until later - or at all - it's just windows. and half the time you don't even load into windows, you get the first-time login junk
@aridwan24 not yet. i should test this though. I'm not sure how far you can push the processor, or the thermals--it's a thin system and the fan already runs a lot. Have you read much about oc'ing it?
@eRevoFTW Yes, that's what I'm testing here. In my new videos I test out the M11x R2, which has the Core i7 processor. Sorry, not testing with the C2D version any m ore. The difference is minor though--usually the framerate is just a few percentage points less.
@douhnutz I don't. I mean if you are going to game for a few hours a day, you can just get an external display. It's a bit small, but it's good for most stuff, probably not as your only computer though.
@LivinThatHighLife doubtful on the drop, depends on the angle though. I bet the disk would be fine, but I'm guessing you'd have a crack or two, some issues with the display as well.
@zufu35 the alien text is called alien Caret or carat there is a decipher sheet on alien ware arena the alien text on the name plate reads as expected M11x but that's kinda duh since it is written underneath
@Anthonyizhere the graphics switching is not hardware based, you do it through a setting in your drivers. it's not hard. with the m11x r2 the computer does it automatically for you.
@SlicklySlim It will come with it, IF you order it while selecting the add-ons which is $79.00 for a limited time later on it will be $119.00. it also comes with Microsoft excel, power point, and OneNote
Cliffs Notes: Its not really a 11" computer, it just has an 11" screen. Its about the size of a 12" in height and width and the thickness and weight of a 13", should have fit a bigger display (big bezel and screen doesn't close on the end of the machine), the screen needs an AG coating, and the hinge design is not very robust. Hopefully in the next version they just toss the upper LCD portion and come out with a new hinge design and a screen that isn't so glossy w/ less bezel.
it heats up 40 degrees per hour, if u play more than 1,5 consecutive hours it will suddenly turn off. It cant even run a 2007 game using directx 8 with low graph settings.
Neno Martínez I am looking for a new gaming laptop and I found this for eBay. I want to play league of legends, minecraft, csgo, how well will it run those games?
@wowsidwells this is the core 2 model. the core i models deliver a nice performance boost. plus you get optimus now, which has some problems but is pretty cool overall.
@Obessa Dell now offers the screen protector which also turns the gloss to a matte finish instead. I hear it helps alot. It's about 32 dollars, so it's not too expensive either.
@LP710M not this laptop. Maybe the sandybridge m11x, which use the new i5 quad cores....But this specific laptop being reviewd is an old core 2 processor which wont even run bf3 on low-mid settings. you're better off getting a m14x or something.
Looks like a cool machine. Wonder how it would work with Linux (i.e. Ubuntu). I have some school assignments that require me to boot Linux from a USB drive. You think it could handle running some Virtual Machines?? Not really looking for a gaming machine but want a powerful small form factor machine. I also, considered the dual core Inspiron M101z (has 11.6 screen)
@sonickun95 sorry man, no idea. requirements for that game have not been posted yet. that said i'd bet it will be able to handle it at a reasonable level.
i got one and its pretty easy to remove the battery and replace it if it goes bad but if you setup the power saver right u can get up 7 hours of battery so having to change the battery while your out kinda goes out the window but i give the M11x a 10 out of 10
@IDK642HALO the m11x is great if you want/need the portability. if that doesn't matter to you then you'll probably want something bigger. the M15x is great, so is the asus g73.
I would love to get a new laptop before I go to college preferably a performance one. I've looked at the m11x and the m15x on dell but to be honest I'm not entirely sure which one I'd prefer. Obviously the 11 is much more portable than the 15 but what are the overall advantages of each compared to eachother? Which one would be preferred?
@foxh8er That's the newest version of it. Dell offers the original M11X for $699 on its' website, or you could go refurbished. Just go on google shopping and find the cheapest price.
hey, u mentioned any requests for game tests :) i was wondering if maybe it could be possible for a crysis test, i want to get the m11x but im a heavy gamer, and i pretty much use crysis as a reference to how well it can perform.
@ThirdClick do u need a laptop? because if u want a badass gaming computer the best thing u can do is to go to a comp usa or best buy or other computer store in your area and build it urself. i recently i went to buy a new computer at a comp usa and i bought all top of the line stuff for like 1280
@FirstGenerationGames I'd recommend a Core i processor, not C2D. I think it's worth the extra money if you are going to be doing intensive work on it. Either is fine for gaming as they have the same graphics though
as you know this computer is pretty expensive but i am thinking of buying it. but i an get a laptop with much better specs for less money. i like the design of the alienware computer. and its small. i want to use it for some games like mw3 and battlefield 3 and for internet and some other heavy things. do you recomm this laptop for me?
@burningtoasters I have not had hinge issues, but the M11x has had lots of reports of hinge problems. Alienware knows about it. It's an issue, but I would not let it prevent my from buying one, especially with the black friday sale still going on.
Dangit, i'm expecting my m11x in 4 days. Should i waited a bit longer for any upgrades they put in? and is any of the upgrades they do put in make a big significant difference?
Thanks for your in depth hands on. I'm planning on getting this laptop but do you think its necessary to have at least 4GB of ram to be able to play games like crysis, etc. on high? Or will a 2GB ram do just fine?
isnt it alienware M11x 1gB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M is better than alienware M15x 512MB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M?? im confused.. T.T dunno which one to but.. any recommendation? tq
the number in the name tells you how big the screen is. M11x means 11 inch screen.. 11 inches may be a little small for gaming, but they also make 14, 17, and 18 inch laptops.. Also the bigger laptops have disk drives with optional blue-ray and many other useful features.. The m11x is mainly built for portability and price, so it doesn't have many of the features avaliable in the larger laptops.. (my m17x is awesome, runs bf3 faster than my friends desktop)
@zcool888 - Because you can buy a nice DVDRW slim USB drive and connect to it. You still need that for reloading the OS from the disc, as some people do not like to use the image restore.
Doubt I would ever get this now. Seeing no DVD drive in sight just turned me away from trading for one. They could have integrated a DVD or bluray drive in the right side like a PS3 slim drive to keep it still slick and stylish. I am not a fan of pop out drives. Even taking care of your laptop they still get damaged and the optical gets exposed. Only downside to a load drive is if it fails you'll have fun getting your disc back.
@Gangowad its got steam pre installed. i guess youre meant to buy them like that, which is actually not a terriblr idea, but still,is a necessary to buy
@cater80 sounds like you'll be happier with the Air. It's a great computer. If you don't plan on gaming with it, there isn't really a reason to get the M11x
@wassup2ify probably m11x if you don't mind the screen size. M14x is probably the most balanced laptop in terms of portability, power housing, and gaming.... If you have enough money to get m11x, i say pay little more for the m14x...you won't regret it.
@awesomeness4441 there are 2 models. both have a nvidea gtx 335m graphics card and up to 8gbs of RAM, but the processor is where the price comes in $800 for overclockable intel core 2 duo $900 for core i5 and onward to i7, which of course raises the price. (imo get the core i5, i7 doesent make too much of a difference)
The alien gibberish when you open up the box says "ALIENWARE" - each of their letters corresponds to one in the English language and you can see the two As and two Es match up.
In your video you say that the writing on the accessories box is gibberish. It is not. It says "Alienware" in Alienware's font, this is the same font they use on the customization plate on the bottom of the laptop.
I would personally just collect the alienware mx series just for fun, and they are cheap, and look cool.
Cheap, just collect, 😄😂
i guessing your the kinda guy that has the odd 10 grand laying around
^ I am tho
Im planning to do the same, very good memories!
by the way do you mind if i ask you what was your job?

@kuhwuped I've only used it for two days, but I'm really liking it so far. No problems aside from the fan running a lot. What glitches have you heard about?

@XLuke01X yes, the M11x is having some hinge problems. Not on every unit, but enough that alienware knows about it and is addressing it.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned this or not on here but there is a removable battery, all you have to do is take off that back plate and the battery comes out and can be replaced or upgraded. that is also how you change the RAM and HDD.
is there a disc drive?
@kuhwuped haven't had any crashes at all. the cooling fan runs all the time though, and you can hear it. not super annoying but it's there
@themangodess you'd prefer it go on earlier? normally i don't do this until later - or at all - it's just windows. and half the time you don't even load into windows, you get the first-time login junk
@TheInfinityMovies I can't remember if that was b/c my cam messed up or if this is a alienware loaner unit. Anyway good spot!
With certain RAM and hard drive upgrades, will the m11x be able to support Shogun 2? and nice rundown of it, nice job
@Obessa its very reflective, but you can turn up the backlight to fight that, though it turns the battery life.
@datchick360 yes you can do all the normal computer stuff. surf the web, write papers, etc. it runs windows 7
@Built2roll yeah you can, it's doublemapped, there is no radio on/off switch or stuff like that.
@aridwan24 not yet. i should test this though. I'm not sure how far you can push the processor, or the thermals--it's a thin system and the fan already runs a lot. Have you read much about oc'ing it?

@skotiFD - The battery can be replaced. It is just a cell housed in there that connects with a single cable...
@LivinThatHighLife doubtful on the drop, depends on the angle though. I bet the disk would be fine, but I'm guessing you'd have a crack or two, some issues with the display as well.
@zufu35 the alien text is called alien Caret or carat there is a decipher sheet on alien ware arena
the alien text on the name plate reads as expected M11x but that's kinda duh since it is written underneath
Hey this is a really nice laptop how much was it in the US? Alienware makes great laptops......Great vid
@Ryan925695 yes. it runs windows and handles all the standard stuff -- office, etc.
@Gangowad no, but you can get a USB DVD drive, either through alienware or from a third party
@BsTsxRefleCt yes, it handles all the normal stuff. it runs windows 7 just like any PC out there.
@Skateir that's a tough one, but i would call Dell first as you'd likely be voiding your warranty.
@Anthonyizhere the graphics switching is not hardware based, you do it through a setting in your drivers. it's not hard. with the m11x r2 the computer does it automatically for you.
@NinjaSlayerKarl yea the battery can be removed and replaced if you'd like. i am sure alienware will provide this service as well.
@Terry1835 i7 m11x has only been out for a few days now, the m11x has been out since march and yes, i7 is the best
@SlicklySlim It will come with it, IF you order it while selecting the add-ons which is $79.00 for a limited time later on it will be $119.00. it also comes with Microsoft excel, power point, and OneNote
@9cloudersprofile i have this laptop and love it....why is it crappy to you? did you get base line or something?
Cliffs Notes: Its not really a 11" computer, it just has an 11" screen. @AaronHellmann1
Depends on what CPU you choose. $799 for the dual core model, $949 for the i5 model and $1099 for the i7 model.
it heats up 40 degrees per hour, if u play more than 1,5 consecutive hours it will suddenly turn off. It cant even run a 2007 game using directx 8 with low graph settings.
Neno Martínez I am looking for a new gaming laptop and I found this for eBay. I want to play league of legends, minecraft, csgo, how well will it run those games?
Plus this MX model is upgradable GPU isn't it ?? Because it ain't soldered with Motherboard like non MX model
Yeah. But you also need to make sure that they ship to where I live. Not many of them do.
wat should i get, or wat would u rather get. A alienware m11x or a macbook air or regular macbook
@33Zbird Thanks, glad to help! I'll be interested to hear how you like it.
@wowsidwells this is the core 2 model. the core i models deliver a nice performance boost. plus you get optimus now, which has some problems but is pretty cool overall.

you're better off getting a m14x or something.
Are m11x's long lasting/don't break down as much? How's their battery life with non gaming use vs gaming use? And are they worth it?
@zenfreak96 yes they are powered by the battery. they will run out when the battery does ; )
@sunshinepinay1254 yes, it does everything that a normal computer does (windows, internet, etc)
Looks like a cool machine.
Wonder how it would work with Linux (i.e. Ubuntu). I have some school assignments that require me to boot Linux from a USB drive.

@BurnenACE Yes wait for a new one. The rumor is that we will see an upgraded model this summer, so it won't be a long wait!
@wwwgeekdotcom man im going to save up for an alienware pc should i get the m11x or the m15x?? great review
@ronak697 While ordering the computer you can buy an external CD/DVD driver, or go out to best buy, walmart, ect. and buy one
@apptotap It's designed for gaming, so it should be able to play any game you install.
@tetankemint its really not so bad. I played though almost of all just cause 2 on it. Anyway, use an external monitor if you don't like the size.
@theCODE792 no, you should not hurt battery life, at least from what I've heard
Mine is 10 in. Ohhh you men the computer?
@ThirdClick do u need a laptop? because if u want a badass gaming computer the best thing u can do is to go to a comp usa or best buy or other computer store in your area and build it urself. i recently i went to buy a new computer at a comp usa and i bought all top of the line stuff for like 1280

@djpsychedelic yes, it's better to play plugged in if you can--you'll be able to push the computer to the max and not worry about the battery life.
@HiatusLucari yea, i think this is a good choice for college--powerful enough, light enough to take to class too
@lexmark245 there is not a lot of space inside the computer actually.
@Dr3aMzCLAN the m11x does not have have a cd/dvd drive
@zcool888 lol right?? I have no idea. I mean you could use a USB optical drive, but still...
as you know this computer is pretty expensive but i am thinking of buying it. but i an get a laptop with much better specs for less money. i like the design of the alienware computer. and its small. i want to use it for some games like mw3 and battlefield 3 and for internet and some other heavy things. do you recomm this laptop for me?
@lenatrang thanks for the heads up, it didn't seem like that came though, but maybe it did
@MartyredxMaiden Notice the date uploaded was over a year ago. There has been a new model released since then with, of course, higher specs.
@SlicklySlim you can add it via the options when ordering.
@kuhwuped yea, sorry for the delay. its quite cool.
@johnboyu this one had the better C2D processor at the time, but now it's standard.
@burningtoasters I have not had hinge issues, but the M11x has had lots of reports of hinge problems. Alienware knows about it. It's an issue, but I would not let it prevent my from buying one, especially with the black friday sale still going on.

@rpglover101 its optimus. but optimus does have customizable settings
@Gangowad its got steam pre installed. i guess youre meant to buy them like that, which is actually not a terriblr idea, but still,is a necessary to buy
@manfreak456 you can use a USB external optical drive.
@pipydog23 awesome. you go c2d or core i?
@cater80 sounds like you'll be happier with the Air. It's a great computer. If you don't plan on gaming with it, there isn't really a reason to get the M11x
@awel69 no, this was not shot with sony.
@mattfox14 Yes. The windows performance index is from 1.0-7.9, so 7.1 is very good.
@Blackcrailtap mw2 plays great. i won't be able to do a gameplay video though, sry
hey all, sorry for the camera issues. i'm still getting used to it (oly E-PL1)
@TheAssassinman2000 Yes, with the mines rendered in stunning HD resolutions and the game rolling at a nice 80 fps on OVERCHARGED settings. :P
@wassup2ify probably m11x if you don't mind the screen size. M14x is probably the most balanced laptop in terms of portability, power housing, and gaming....
If you have enough money to get m11x, i say pay little more for the m14x...you won't regret it.
@awesomeness4441 there are 2 models. both have a nvidea gtx 335m graphics card and up to 8gbs of RAM, but the processor is where the price comes in
$800 for overclockable intel core 2 duo
$900 for core i5 and onward to i7, which of course raises the price. (imo get the core i5, i7 doesent make too much of a difference)
m11x or m15x?
If I buy the m11x I'll upgrade RAM, CPU and HDD space.
If I buy the m15x I'll buy the stock one.. Which one do u recommend?

@inevitablereticle hm might have just been too close to the mic.
@ronak697 because you bought the laptop with an OS included in the price. it would be strange not to give you the windows cd.
Does that DVD contain both Win 7 Home Premium + Office 2007? Or it´s necessary to download the MS Office copy from Dell? Thanks for your attention!
@foxh8er you might could afford it by buying it from dell and do the monthly pay thing.
Im really interested in buying this laptop however im slightly concerned with the size. does the smaller size affect the size of the keys?
