“Our Lament”

As we head into the holiday season, this song seems like a strange choice to share, but I want to take a minute to acknowledge the grief many of us will feel.
For some of us, there are empty places at the table.
For some of us, being with our families brings us pain instead of comfort.
And few of us have come out of this pandemic unscathed; it has taken a mental and physical toll.
As I sang this song, I felt the weight of the sorrow, the unanswered questions, the sleepless nights.
Like the Psalms this song is a heart cry, a desire to not hold anything back from God.
Even though there is a question the song never answers, there is a confidence in the crying out that there is in fact one who hears.
And I know from experience that He doesn’t just hear, He’s here.
And even though He sees all the beauty and joy ahead He weeps with us in this moment and holds us when our hearts are breaking.
