I enjoyed this video so much ! I'm disabled now , but I used to run most states East to Texas. And North to Michigan out of Ga. My home in Rome, Ga. But had to leave trucking. My back and knees were getting too bad. Now just getting a small check from SSI. But still wish I could drive again. Your video touched me, so close to home. I might not be physically able but I still dream. GOD Bless and Keep you safe. Devil Stomper here! .

As a South Carolina native its always nice to watch you treck up and down snowy hills and terrain like that. Love the scenery, the purring volvo engine, and the commentary. Thank you for all you do mike. Its always fun riding shotgun.

It must require a lot of patience to do your job. Something I lack. I love these snow videos the most. With the sound of the engine, wipers wiping, blinker blinking and your voice...it puts me to sleep more than any ASMR. Thanks, Mike, for taking the time to make these videos. God bless and keep safe.

Finally someone who understands momentum in the context of driving. That was a fun video to watch!
Those of you with dash cameras, keep in mind that almost all cameras fail to record plate numbers of nearby vehicles when driving at night. If you have any intent of actually reporting someone, you need to read the plate number out-loud for the camera.

I'm not enteirly sure what you were doing wrong when the pickup blocked you, as you know more than me, with good snow tyres and in fresh snow, sometimes the best grip can be found in the white stuff. Great videos.

The thing that bothers me at almost 70 years of age is....despite that FACT that Trucking is ESSENTIAL to this or any nation....I hurt me to see how the business has been treated...and the reputation of the truck driver is diminished. We used to be Urban Legends. People used to trust us to help them drive on the highway in bad weather. When I was 6...my father followed the various trucks going east, all night, all the way to Boston on family vacation. Don't ask me how I remember that. That was 1960........be well.........

For the longest time i'd go home from my factory job and watched your videos just about everyday, I've been driving for 8 months now and whenever I see a quality truck I look for the hanging chicken in the window. Don't be surprised one day if you get a holler from me on the radio.

I don't think Mike has another video with so much snow and cars all over the road, but looking back Jan 25 was a huge snow system all over the southwest and in the mountains of CA also. Whew!! Now get to Las Vegas and do this all over again until you get it right. Always lots of fun. There are some strange people out there. One afternoon I was in Virginia going through the hills and there was a guy in the left lane keeping pace with a semi doing exactly 65 mph in a 70 mph zone. He was driving a little pickup truck with a cap on the back and he would not let anyone pass. Anytime someone would get up on him he would throw his flashers on and start bobbing and weaving acting spastic. Well, after about 10 mi of that crap I had had enough and I know it's one of the biggest no-nos but I passed the guy on the shoulder of the road just to get by him, the guy was flipping me off and acting like he was out of his mind when I went by him. I don't know what's the matter with some people. And it was a nice clear sunny day like 80° so I don't know what his problem was.

P.S, I used to drive a high vehicle which also had $WD, so spent a LOT of time here in NZ driving the Otago/Souhland areas during the depth of many a winter's night in which I encountered many a snow storm, or EXCEEDINGLY THICK "pea-soup" fog.
After driving for many years previous with a car with roof mounted high-beam driving lights, I can attest to the difference they make, when falling water/snow or dense fog is about.
Even during the day when the sunlight is obscured.
TURNING OFF, the main vehicle lights that are producing a glare into the inclement weather BETWEEN your eyes and the road, having a set of MUCH higher mounted driving lights (or as I later fitted, bright yellow fog lamps) - having the LIGHT higher above me, meant I could easily see the road and everything off to each side, a WHOLE HEAP EASIER, and further away, than trying to view anything through low mounted fog lights - or even through low mounted dip/mains.
The problem being in most instances being that you do NOT need to have a reflection bouncing back from anything between you and the ground, which occurs when the lights are partway between your "height" and the road, so - consider mounting "high-on-cab" driving lights (good for clear weather long haul driving) that can be operated completely independently of your main headlights (either dip or main beams), so that when you encounter VERY HEAVY/DENSE fog & snowfalls (even heavy rain/sleet), you can LIGHT-UP the overhead falling crap, which will in turn bounce the glare back down onto the road, and not UP into your eyes.
Try it, you may like it as much as I did.
Plus on a clear night, having lights mounted high above, removes all those nasty DARK dips in the road ahead, as you will never be higher than the lights.

When the two trucks passed you about 32:00, I thought they might have 4 wheel drive as you had suggested earlier, and remembered my electric 4-wheel drive option on my 150 Ford. In snow conditions like this, I preferred two wheel drive to make steering easier and independent of the driving wheels. I could use the throttle to keep the rear behind me and a light input on the steering to keep the front aimed straight without power over-ride. When the throttle and steering were combined, the steering suffered. When the driving wheels slipped, they all slipped and an offroad excursion resulted as did the pickup at 36:01. I, too, preferred the deeper snow for steering control. My Mustang tires are too wide for good snow control, so I stay home now, and enjoy the snow driving with you, riding shotgun. All the best to you and I'll see you at the creek.

Not sure how many year's of experience, but I would have been gripping the seat, my feet bracing the floor and you would hear a peep out of a very talkative woman like myself when you had to pass the road hog's and some of the truckers with less experience and skill. The rest of the trip was great. I always loved driving in the snow. Never had any problems with rear wheel drive. And nothing beats a stick in the snow. Way more control. Have an awesome trip. I noticed how you complained about the Wind Shield Wipers; on board ship, we had Window Spinners (Denny Brown Co.) that spin at high speed, throwing off the water and giving a clear view of what's ahead. Maybe some should be installed on the big rigs? Anyway you have shown some patience behind the wheel.

Fogged up a bit on jump seat side & over a bit to the driver side windshield.
I drove through there 12/28/2020, similar condition that you've got. My defrost wasn't working hardly at all, same outside temp range and it was no fun, let me tell you! I got through without incident though there were accidents all around me in that area. .
You had a crazy situation there! What the hell is that (I guess) LEO type doing?!
Good! Out in front. Damn, you're a good man behind the wheel and more.
Stay safe Mountain Man Mike. It aint easy some days, eh?

Hey Mike. Thanks for showing what the PRO's Do while passing the amateurs who are only in it for the Bucks. Experience Always Wins as long as the 4 wheeler's respect the 18 wheelers.
    PEACE!

I used your tip driving today. Spit from the tires off the road to see if it’s icy and looking for a sheen.

Boy that looks like more winter there than we had all season here in MI. lol Actually, those two trucks were different. The cop was driving a Ford, while the guy with the amber lights was in a Chevy.

You're the best MMM. You really drive that snow. I'm late for the shotgun seat it looks like. Let's ride anyway. I'll take the bunk. :)

I use a 17" blade on the left and a 16" blade on the right side of my Silverado to alleviate ice build up. Helps a lot in snows.
