To be completely fair the album is a bootleg and not an official release from the band. Euronymous being an edgelord though did send those pictures to everyone he could so he's not completely off the hook either.
The story behind Iron Maiden's Dance of Death is that it wasn't supposed to be the cover. It was a template for what would've been the cover but they ended up using that instead. I can just imagine Kool Keith making the album cover high off his ass with a couple of friends trying to make it look as shitty as possible. Fits the gross vibe of the album too cus the cover is a parody on No Limits album covers in the 90s and the entire album is practically just Kool Keith going in on shitty rappers coming out at the time
26:35 the thing is with the MGK album is that the tomatoes are practical. But they decided to very slowly bob them in front of the camera instead of either actually throwing them at MGK or properly swinging them
On one hand, I'm surprised either Blind Faith's debut album or Scorpions' Virgin Killer didn't end up on this list, but then again, I wouldn't want Brad to be investigated on broadcasting CP charges, so it's for the better.
The dr dooom record is honestly so good and the cover makes it even better tbh. Fun fact: this record is used in the film grandmas boy and the main character even wears a shirt with that cover on it. Kool Keith aka dr dooom also wrote the theme song for the movie
The Toy album cover is bad, but should be kept in mind: the album was recorded in 2000/01, before the record company had it shelved. This was one of the few pieces Bowie got for album cover submission and it was the one he was most positive for...not that he liked it but it was apparently better than anything else he had. AND then he died...and 5 years later, the label decided "Why not release this album now?". The people working on final mixing and stuff said that they considered making new art for it, but decided to just go with the only thing Bowie had any approval of. But yeah its terrible.
Might be my bias because I love iridescence but I think it’s crazy that someone thought to bring it up as if it was bad enough to be lumped with all these other eldritch horrors
I might be biased as a little monster but I’ve really grown to love the born this way cover apart from the font which I can overlook haha I think it’s a faithful representation of both her surreal campiness in her visual style at the time and the message of the album itself If you want to do best album art though, definitely consider Get To Heaven by Everything Everything
YES, get to heaven has absolutely god-tier art to match its god-tier music. i love it so much that i recently bought the gth shirt, so now everybody i know has to appreciate it whenever they see me :)
As a fan of Tool and a professional graphic designer, it makes me nauseous to look at the album art of Puscifer's "V is for Va*ina" and "C is for (please insert sophomoric genitalia reference here)" (yes those are the actual titles). Both look like they just opened MS Office 2007 and slapped a bunch of random cliparts
I mean if we're talking dead bodies on album covers, Pissgrave has by far the most putrid album covers in existence. I warn anybody even slightly squeamish not to look any of it up. They use real crime scene photos taken from the internet. And their music sounds as disgusting as their album covers look. Also Carcass's first 2 album covers are just a collage of autopsy photos. And those were made in the 80's when pictures like that weren't just available to look up online.
If you think dance of death was crazy, look at the search results next to it that he pulled up and you can see the original art. I forgot the story but I wanna say the producer was like "this is too boring, add some characters" and whoever in charge was just like "ight"
I listened to queen's the miracle when i was in elementary school and I would look at that album cover for hours trying to understand it completely. honestly really interesting.
Ok the Mayhem album is a bootleg of one of their live performances with Dead(the guy in the pic) released by someone in Brazil and the cover is an artist’s rendition. The original image was never released and is in possession with the band’s guitarist’s family. The guitarist is the one who found the dead body and took photos of it P.S the guitarist of the band was also murdered by the ex-bassist over alleged “royalties” of his over band Burzum, and trash talking about him. He stabbed the guitarist over 20 times. The bassist guy has served his sentence and had relocated to France where he lives to this day. He is also a known racist and anti semite
As tragic and insane as it is, I think the story of Mayhem is genuinely fascinating. I’ve seen the interview with Varg (the bassist) recounting the night and I thought it was interesting.
Varg actually stabbed the Mayhem guitarist (Euronymus) twice because Euronymus was planning to kill him and make a film out of it, he also did steal vargs money and they generally hated each other.
I'm pretty sure "the original image was never released and is in possession with the band’s guitarist’s family" and "the cover is an artist’s rendition" isn't true. From everything I can find online, it's 100% a real picture of Dead's body. Unless you know something I don't.
Surprised the album Virgin Killer wasnt brought up for being borderline illegal, like it was literally banned in the UK to the point of blocking accsess to the albums Wikipedia page. I get the girls mom was there for the shoot and was done purely for artistic meaning and being provocative whatever sure but I think that could have been portrayed through just making it a drawing
I remember when Mosquito dropped in 2013 and there was more talk about how bad the album art was than the actual music. The album is the YYYs worst record, but there are diamonds in the rough (Sacrilege, Under the Earth, Despair, Wedding Song)
Cool video, it really is crazy how even greatly influential music artist like David Bowie, Queen and Iron Maiden could have bad album covers. (P.S: You are wrong about Pet Sounds being boring, Imo)
Chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water's cover looks like an ai generated monstrosity, primus brown album looks like a bowling alley, and alias is literally cassandra from doctor who but they somehow made it more weird.
i personally can't enjoy that kind of editing, it's off putting and very distracting for me. which makes me a little sad because it's gonna be hard to watch brad's videos anymore with the constant memes & audios being thrown at me
Surprised the Metallica one wasn't Metal Up Your Ass - it might not be the worst, but considering it came before their first album, imagining that as their first visual message to the world is hilarious
About Dawn of the Blackhearts. The band is called Mayhem, they're a black metal band from Norway. So context, the guitarist convinced the singer of Mayhem at the time to end his own life and later took a photograph of the body. Eventually when you heard that "one of the band members murdered the other" actually the lead man of Norwegian Black Metal band Burzum murdered the photographer of the body Mayhem Guitarist Euronymous. that's some context for you, it's an infamous story in music history.
as a metalhead, its so funny to see people discovering mayhem bc its like this thing that everyone in the metal community knows about and every time someone finds out about it it just makes all of us laugh 😭
i don't care if this is "normal" behavior or you're used to vile metal covers; saying that something like this is funny is so insensitive it's insane. this happened to real people. someone literally died. i wouldn't blame anyone for being shocked
7:39 Kool Keith (Dr. Dooom, Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, etc) is actually very unique underground artist (and his art is filled with sarcasm/postirony). He also was a co-founder of the Ultramagnetic MC's.
The first time I saw Raditude's album cover, I thought they photoshopped a kangaroo's torso and legs onto the dog. Even looking at it now, it still feels like the dog was shopped together to me for some reason lol
The album “you have no idea what you’re getting into” by: Does It Offend You, Yeah? Is an eyesore, despite how simplistic it is in comparison with other terrible album covers. The band name itself is terrible as well.
🤠 Nah. Corey is too easy a target. Just a little too hip at the moment to bash. Angelic to the Core is far more imaginative and entertainingly bizarre than a lot of what's on the pop charts at the moment. I love it. The album cover is goofy and fun and the disc packaging overall is actually pretty sweet.. You go, Corey.
Don't forget the Mayhem' bootleg album with the picture of their dead singer on the cover that the guitarist took after finding him dead after committing suicide, that was crazy.
12:00 I actually really love that Modest Mouse album art. I don't know if it fits the album, as I haven't heard it, but my first impression is positive.
Yeah yeah yeahs mosquito actually looks decent imo. It’s horrible and grotesque but that’s the point. The cropped version is much better, I like the lighting on the mosquito.
You should actually look into Mayhem's history, it's a wild rabbit hole, the band was filled with everything your grandma would think Metal was all about
It was a very unpleasant surprise for me seeing the Father Of All album cover, considering Green Day was able to pretty consistently make cool album covers, with maybe the exception of The Trilogy.
Yeah Dying Fetus cant be pretty cringe but the just rock so damn hard and have an awesome bandname. I saw Mayham at the local student house theyve become pretty household since those days lol. If it makes it any better, the guy that made that cover against the rest of the bands will was also the same one that was killed
i actually like the new cherry bomb artwork, it feels grungy which reflects the aesthetic at parts of the album. the original artwork was pretty good too tho

His albums are solid, but he reused the same damn buildings of illmatic for IWW, I am and Nastradamus and don't get me started on how badly covers like stillmatic have aged.
All of those are amazing albums though.
I really like the Life is Good, Nasir and King’s Disease 1 & 2 + Magic covers tho for sure
@@mistahmata Oh for sure. His recent covers are so clean, specially Kings Disease.
Life Is Good is the most savagely subtle album cover of his as he is holding Kelis' wedding dress in his lap
stillmatic is so bad its good tbh i support the cover
The Untitled album cover is great
Angelic to the Core is a perfect album cover because it looks exactly how the album sounds.
Your editing gets better and better it’s ridiculous
oh salut haha
bruh dr. dooom is kool keith, a.k.a an old school/alternative hip hop legend. he is actually the guy that was sampled in the prodigy's smack my b*** up, so you have probably heard his voice before.
the album cover is kind of amazing when you know his persona
I can just imagine Kool Keith making the album cover high off his ass with a couple of friends trying to make it look as shitty as possible. Fits the gross vibe of the album too cus the cover is a parody on No Limits album covers in the 90s and the entire album is practically just Kool Keith going in on shitty rappers coming out at the time
That Dr. Dooom album is a classic! The Sex Style album cover is pretty wild too
The rap general chief
Wait really? No way I love kool Keith. Get off my elevator is amazing
Virgin Killer is what I think of first when I think of bad album art.
i remember that limp bizkit cover from when i was a kid and it never left my memory. i kinda like it now though idk why
Trauma
Stockholm syndrome
The same thing as the early appetite for destruction album art.
The art itself is decently drawn, so.
I just wish it was attached to any other band.
The dr dooom record is honestly so good and the cover makes it even better tbh.
Fun fact: this record is used in the film grandmas boy and the main character even wears a shirt with that cover on it.
Kool Keith aka dr dooom also wrote the theme song for the movie
Also glad you didn’t show dawn of the black hearts, respect.
I remember seeing that cover pop up on my Spotify home page, absolutely jarring. Well I’m glad they at least chose something he liked at one point…?
Might be my bias because I love iridescence but I think it’s crazy that someone thought to bring it up as if it was bad enough to be lumped with all these other eldritch horrors
Same. It's...a pregnant woman. Like?
@@jml6263 pregnant womens bad confirmed.
I might be biased as a little monster but I’ve really grown to love the born this way cover apart from the font which I can overlook haha I think it’s a faithful representation of both her surreal campiness in her visual style at the time and the message of the album itself
If you want to do best album art though, definitely consider Get To Heaven by Everything Everything
YES, get to heaven has absolutely god-tier art to match its god-tier music. i love it so much that i recently bought the gth shirt, so now everybody i know has to appreciate it whenever they see me :)
@@rinamine I lose mine 🥺
the way brad had a panic attack when he saw the iron maiden cover LMAO
And those were made in the 80's when pictures like that weren't just available to look up online.
looking up pissgrave’s album art was the worst thing i’ve ever done. im genuinely nauseous now.
There are a bunch of bands that do that, too. Extreme metal does some shit.
@@HonkeyKongLive doesn't mean it's good

@@HonkeyKongLive you got some real fuckin issues then pal. go to therapy or something, that is not normal in the slightest.
I think it’s a reference to the three face Jesus you find in Christian art, especially with the album being called The Miracle
It looks like something youd see on a lot of shrooms or DMT
watching Brad learn about Mayhem has me cackling
Ok the Mayhem album is a bootleg of one of their live performances with Dead(the guy in the pic) released by someone in Brazil and the cover is an artist’s rendition. The original image was never released and is in possession with the band’s guitarist’s family. The guitarist is the one who found the dead body and took photos of it
P.S the guitarist of the band was also murdered by the ex-bassist over alleged “royalties” of his over band Burzum, and trash talking about him.
@Life I mean they are both out for their own blood for dumb reasons.
So ive always heard this story but is the artists rendition an accurate redrawing of the picture or a little bit more artistically liberal
I'm pretty sure "the original image was never released and is in possession with the band’s guitarist’s family" and "the cover is an artist’s rendition" isn't true. From everything I can find online, it's 100% a real picture of Dead's body. Unless you know something I don't.
I regret looking up what Pissgrave's album covers look like. I'm going to have those seared into my mind when I sleep tonight.
Really enjoying this new editing style and can't wait to see what you do with the new setup. Great as always.
Yeah it really gives the video some personality.
I abhor the new editing style, it's so vapid and feels like I am watching kid's content
I remember when Mosquito dropped in 2013 and there was more talk about how bad the album art was than the actual music. The album is the YYYs worst record, but there are diamonds in the rough (Sacrilege, Under the Earth, Despair, Wedding Song)
Mayhem is the most chaotic fucking band ever and the singer (nicknamed Dead, ironically) was the ultimate edgelord. But in seriousness RIP.
Tales from the Punchbowl is more bowling alley then brown album
@@matthewmeachem2259nah brown album looks like a sleezy casino the more I look at it.
I'm still not used to the "meme every 5 seconds" editing style in a BradTasteInMusic video but I'll probably get used to it sooner or later
i personally can't enjoy that kind of editing, it's off putting and very distracting for me. which makes me a little sad because it's gonna be hard to watch brad's videos anymore with the constant memes & audios being thrown at me
at least it's done tastefully
@@zuzzzied eh I kind of agree. The autotune impressions ever y 5 seconds in his reactions is already enough
I like it
i think it makes the horrified reactions way funnier
I want a full version of the autotuned "Take A Knee... My Ass" at 16:52
I'm a swiftie but I have to nominate her debut album Self Titled's cover, it was pretty at the time but it didn't age well at all

as a metalhead, its so funny to see people discovering mayhem bc its like this thing that everyone in the metal community knows about and every time someone finds out about it it just makes all of us laugh 😭
Also seeing people freak out about death metal gore album covers lmao

Kool Keith (Dr.
Raditude by weezer is a real pic. Idk if the dog was thrown or jumped off a couch, but it was taken without a green screen.

The album cover is goofy and fun and the disc packaging overall is actually pretty sweet.. You go, Corey.
Don't forget the Mayhem' bootleg album with the picture of their dead singer on the cover that the guitarist took after finding him dead after committing suicide, that was crazy.
He covered that in the video.

It was a very unpleasant surprise for me seeing the Father Of All album cover, considering Green Day was able to pretty consistently make cool album covers, with maybe the exception of The Trilogy.

The original cover for Virgin Killer by Scorpions is the worst because it's literally just CP
Strangely enough no carcass's first two albums (reek of purification and symphony of sickness) note: both album use real and gory autopsy photos.
