After owning a 311, I wasn't surprised when you mentioned the stiff gear shift on the Sana. All good fun :) The luxury of either the Samara, Favorit or Sana is quite something..... Or lack of it. Best of luck Ian!
@Steve Terry By the way communsit cars are really reliable built like tanks and probably more reliable than any American car, if you to Eastern and Southern Europe you can still see many communist cars still on teh roads.
One of my favourite cars of all time the Sana, a friend had a nearly new one back in 1991-2, very tragically rare, a nice shape and quite like a Tipo, but I also liked the Tercel.
Awesome. Always loved the Sana. The rather shiny velour, mass of different readouts and as Tiff pointed out, static rear seat belts. Quite nippy when they're up and running too.
As a kid there was a chap lived round the corner with one of these it's still on his drive some 30yrs later looks like it's being used. I had a great number plate I think it was U6. Must have been worth more than his car and house. We also had U2 running around but that was on a. Range rover
My mum had a DGT Tipo. When it was not subject to involuntary immobilisation it was almost OK. It caught fire on bonfire night in 1994 and that was the end of that. The dash looked cool.
What a brilliant choice Mr HubNut Sir, not seen one of these for years / decades.... Looks a little "Citroen ZX" don't you think - particularly with the one windscreen wiper - hence your "no triangle of doom" comment earlier! Plus the new rear hatch already has a rear wiper attached - bonus! I watched the Tiff review - he liked it - Well, what's not to like? Good luck with this, it will be great to follow progress!
Yes, FSO Polonez Caro was sold from early '70s to 2002. In a big short Polonez was basically Polski Fiat/FSO 125p with some improvments, which has technology from Fiat 1300/1500 from '50s.
There is a video of a Bosnian guy buying in Arizona a Yugo 55 that spent 25 years in the desert and he brings it home, bought it for 50 $, gives it TLC and starts at 1st attempt. Not many car can do that. People like to make fun of Zastavas but they aren't that bad. Because they were cheap people didn't give a damn to give them proper maintenance and then they bitch about it how bad they are.
Oh my my sweet Lord but you do love an oddball challenge. I give you 10 out of 10 for optimism. Just seeing the state of mankyness inside of it gave me the heebie jeebies. You are a better man than me to tackle that one. Best of luck with it though. Should make some interesting videos.
I am so very, very excited by this. My Father had a Yugo Sana which he bought brand new in 1990 (same year as your own car). I'm very curious to know if you have those dreadful static rear seatbelts with the clips that always break. I spent many an uncomfortable year having to deal with those as a child. The suspension struts often gave way, but I believe they use the same units as on a MK2 Golf GTi - it certainly had a tough suspension. Also that rear tailgate could be an issue at the best of times as the gas struts very often failed due to how heavy it was. Parts were indeed the death-knell for our particular car - they were just too difficult to find. But despite the ropey interior quality, it was actually a pretty decent machine. A punchy engine and decent ergonomics. It certainly felt a lot more modern than both the Favorit and the Samara.

I was doing OK until you mentioned how much you paid for it, even with shipping, it rather took me by surprise, so rarity has a premium. Good luck 👍. I see there is a UA-cam channel that loves them -
Zastava & Yugo Cars
Could you please tell me which tires (brand/type) are mounted on the Sana? Looks like some late 80s/early 90s design.
"Your motoring is our concern" has never been more appropriate!
Wow, didn't realise there were so few Sanas left! A local taxi firm used to run them and Ladas. Doesn't seem that long ago! Good luck with the project.
O.M.G. Hubnut has officially lost his mind. Good fun to watch, though XD
I can’t wait to see what’s done with this, good luck mate
Wonderful you have a car from my country now many parts for it here in serbia
Excellent. I will need them! Maybe one day she can drive back home...
Mr Hubnut, You're a braver man than me. Good Luck! It's nice to see a different kind of restoration on UA-cam!
An Eastern Block reck to “restore” and Triangle of Doom T-shirt’s: I’m in heaven!! Lol
I shall watch this space!
Yugoslavia wasnt part of eastern block.
I'm afraid people just are not seeing the point of the whole channel. This is brilliant and exactly why I watch every single day and look forward to every video. I love exotic cars but there are plenty of channels which cater for them.
Cars like these are equally fantastic and fascinating. I would probably not want to buy one myself but fantastic seeing its life and story with someone else. Keep going Iain ...this is why you have the subscriber numbers you have.
If you did a T shirt with the Leyland badge and "the plughole of despair" on it, I'd buy it.
YES! YES!
This is a much more original idea so long as it looks like an official BL T shirt
Me too!
Too right!
Do Tata own the rights to the logo? Better check before you spend money only to get a cease and desist. Yes it does happen.
@@MrPlasticMaggot Even if they did, is it likely they'd want to resurrect it?
This may very be the ONLY time there is video of someone actually excited about getting a Yugo.
I find th styling to be quite citroën-esque. Bit like a ZX.
That was Bertone :)
And it came after the Sana...
Yes, my thoughts exactly.
For a moment I thought it was a oltcit axel
Yeah, a facelifted AX.
After owning a 311, I wasn't surprised when you mentioned the stiff gear shift on the Sana. All good fun :)
The luxury of either the Samara, Favorit or Sana is quite something..... Or lack of it. Best of luck Ian!
When I was a kid my mother test drove a Yugo in Salem Oregon - it actually broke down on the test drive.
@Steve Terry its a socialist car...
@Steve Terry By the way communsit cars are really reliable built like tanks and probably more reliable than any American car, if you to Eastern and Southern Europe you can still see many communist cars still on teh roads.
YAY! I've wanted to see you do a Yugo for a while! I love them!
im from croatia and i could buy and send you some parts
Sorry can't see you ever getting this wreck fixed up, without professional help!
FFS, here we go again! Incidentally, this is exactly why I’m subscribed. 😋
This is going to cause many hours of misery and pain! Can't wait! Top work Ian!
If that car ever runs and gets an MOT I'll eat my hat.
Only ever run on V power I expect 🤦♂️
It's clearly a lot of work but, it's great to see such a rare, fun,and unique little car being given a new lease of life
Yes, a proper 11 on the hubnut scale.
Top work mr hubnut!
after all the work it needs, it could possibly be a 5.
As a kid there was a chap lived round the corner with one of these it's still on his drive some 30yrs later looks like it's being used. I had a great number plate I think it was U6. Must have been worth more than his car and house. We also had U2 running around but that was on a. Range rover
That engine brings back teenage memories of my Tipo. Same air filter housing except for the branding.
My mum had a DGT Tipo. When it was not subject to involuntary immobilisation it was almost OK. It caught fire on bonfire night in 1994 and that was the end of that. The dash looked cool.
Love it! Practical and very rare. Would love to see a power wash video!
Wow, I haven't seen a Sana for years! It looks like it could have been made by Citroen with the blocky styling and weird switchgear.
There’s a reason for that.......😀
What a brilliant choice Mr HubNut Sir, not seen one of these for years / decades....
Is the 'Triangle of Doom' t-shirt available in right-hand drive? 🤔😂
Ah. It is only RHD.
Looked like a left hand drive wiper pattern? 😉🤔
Excited to see work on the new project car in future videos. 👍🏻
@@catmantech The picture's of a windscreen from the outside of the car, not the inside...
@@Zeem4, that makes sense now. I'm always hearing those lines when @hubnut is inside the car.
epic! I really can't wait to see this come on. Would love to see it running
what on earth have you done !!!!!!!!!!
Yes, FSO Polonez Caro was sold from early '70s to 2002. In a big short Polonez was basically Polski Fiat/FSO 125p with some improvments, which has technology from Fiat 1300/1500 from '50s.
That car actually makes your others look good...... never thought I'd ever say that!!
@@Pfirtzer He bought a Yugo GVX (Yugo 65) not 55
Oh my my sweet Lord but you do love an oddball challenge. I give you 10 out of 10 for optimism.
Just seeing the state of mankyness inside of it gave me the heebie jeebies. You are a better man than me to tackle that one. Best of luck with it though. Should make some interesting videos.
I do't wan't to alarm you but I think there is a dent in the front off side wing :D
I spotted a small scratch and a small rust scab as well. Otherwise it's in excellent condition.
Any dent in a Yugo is designed to add structul rigidity to the panel.
Now we know the truth,.Hubnut is going to collect every car designed by Giugiaro
its the DMC12 I would like but prices have went far to far upwards
As long as it's no more than £500!
Giugiaro must have had an off day when he thought about the Yugo and the Matiz lol.
@@royalenfieldbiker1602 god knows how bad his hangover was when he did the marina
The Marina was done by Roy Haynes of Maxi and Mini Clubman fame which were very tidy designs.
Never quite sure who claimed credit for the Ital
This is madness, I love it! NZ/Aus tour t-shirt arrived this week, huzzah!
Theme tune from Steptoe going round my head all the way through this. 😂 That's the worst one yet, top work 👍
Awesome! I’ve a Yugo TopHat Cabriolet, one previous owner and just clocked 9,000 miles - my Zastava Fiço is still in Macedonia 🇲🇰
Don't think I'll live long enough to see that scrapyard dodger on the road.
You paid a 🐒 for that !
Project Binky vs Project Sana.... Who will win??
@@MattBrownbill You would think Binky but there will always be one more bracket to make!
It doesnt take much to get these simple 80s cars back to somwhat okay shape..
YES! someone finally giving attention to the car that deserves a lot of it
This channel is becoming a race to the bottom, trying to find a niche.
Lot more competition these days on yt. Twin cam lad is gaining traction
Popular vehicles in Greece, Fiats, Ladas, and later the Yugos. I still remember them
@Steve Terry hahaha by far not, but their after the land
This makes the City Rover look appealing. I don't know about this one.
When I did my nurse training my mate had one, it was the only car on the nurses home car park that never got pinched...... despite her best efforts....,
The more subscribers you get the worse the cars become! 😂
Nice new car Ian! In Portugal it was Yugo Florida and I don't remember the last time i saw one. Fore sure, more than 20 years ago!
