The Sana is now safe and sound in my workshop in Somerset and will post progress updates as and when there is some. Parts availability is not good at all so there may be some improvisation in order to get it back on the road. Thanks for the hospitality Ian, and that post-MOT first drive may well be your privilege when it’s got to that stage!
Good luck pal. Very interested to see if the old girl can be rescued. We won't judge you if you can't bring it back to life, the motor will likely be worth less than the market value to restore it. We will watch with avid interest!
Shame that's it's going - but thankfully to a good home. Always had a soft spot for these after sitting in one and being rather impressed at the 1989 London Motorfair at Earls Court.
5:18 At least in Germany it was "always" (for the short period it was on the market) called the Florida, maybe because "Sana" was already used by the Tchibo coffee company. And we had rear automatic seatbelts as standard. Unfortunately i´ve never seen one of these on the roads.
I've only ever seen three Zastavas/Yugos in Austria. One was an 1980s model (can't remember any details, that was probably about 20 years ago, although I might have paper photos of it somewhere), one was a fairly late Florida with Serbian plates and the third was a 750, I think with Austrian plates.
They certainly are rare. I looked again today to see if there are any for sale here in Croatia but there are only older Zastava models like the Yugo and the Fiat 500 derived cars.
It'll be good to see the Toyota going soon to be fixed up and used .. Any more to go ? Love the green genie I think it's a good car for your needs and the channel . Peace and love 👍🏻☮❤
As sad as it is to see the Yugo depart, it brings the fleet down to a more manageable size. More so once the Camry goes. Would be great to see the Sana get repaired and back on the road. One thing about the Citroen Berlingo - it was touted as a modern day 2CV6 iirc. 😎
The Yugo is a case of what could have been really. Admittedly things like a certain plague etc didn't help matters. Still at least it is going to a new home, and hopefully it is not the last time we will see it on this channel. :)
No shame in selling the Sana. You can only do so much and it takes a wise and strong man to make the difficult decision to part with some projects to help the others. Great to see it go to a home that will save it, and let you drive it, too.
While it's a shame to see the Sana go it's good that she'll be restored. I live in Belgrade and see these along with the Yugo's, Zastava 101's, 128's and Poly's (101 pickup) all the time.
Ever think of driving a Fiat Tipo? I had great fun in an L reg one, and did a fabulous drive through France to sell it in Madrid for a profit where it’s still driving today
I remember seeing the old Top Gear review of this on YT and they pointed out the lack of an inertia reel when it was new. There's actually a little hook on each rear belt to hang the seatbelt clip on to save it sliding around, but one had already snapped off on the brand new test car...
My recollection of driving a Sana when (brand new) on a test drive the clutch was so heavy you needed Geoff Capes left leg to own one and plastic trim actually fell off while driving. I never bought it.😁
Brave decision, well done. I find them very hard to make but once they are out of my garage they are then out of my head and I just might be able to focus. Try tip toeing while pushing trolley jacks, it's a lot quieter. Thank you.
Hope the sana gets repaired and you can give her a spin, ive worked on cars and just keeping 2 is hard but a fleet of cars is more of a labour of love . best wishes.
There was a Yugo dealership on the the outskirts of Crewe in Cheshire run by chap called Richard Mullock if I recall correctly. They were quite popular around the 1990's with the older generation at the time, not seen one in some time now though.
Seeing the dashboard reminded me of the two mk1 Fiat Unos I owned, they were cracking cars especially the 45S with the FIRE engine. I'd love another one
Brilliant video Ian 👍 what a lovely car that's the thing with cars like that they don't look like the rubbish that is produced today and don't look like every other car in shape
A shame the Yugo never progressed but sometimes we have to accept that we don't necessarily have the time, the money or even the necessary skills to deal with them (I have my own "project" on the drive, and have had so for over a decade). I do hope the Yugo will live again, it does deserve to. I look forward to watching future work on Chemmy and the Oltcit, both of which are so nearly "there".
The lesson to take away from this i suppose , is that simple hand built cars are always easier to repair or re commission than mass produced cars , no matter how basic .

Why do Yugos have heated rear windows? answer to keep your hand's warm on a cold evening when you are pushing it never made it to Australia thank goodness
We did indeed get Yugo in the States as the GV GVL and GVX….there was talk and early plans to offer the Florida and a GV cabriolet but alas…..it was soon the end of Yugo in USA.
i once owened a yugo zastava sadly it fell apart after being left in a gagage for 4 years . it left the garage in buckets of rust ? [ and im not lieing it had more holes in realy strange places like everywhere ! ]
Always like the dash especially the Instrument binnacle, which was very comprehensive, lots of warning lights and the doors open symbol, much more expensive cars didn't have most of that at the time.
The Yugo Florida was sold in Germany, France, Belgium and Great Britain. We've did had two engine options( both Fiat tipo block) the 1,4 and a 1.6L. If my memory dont cheat me..the quality was horrible and reliability wasnt great even. My friends father been a Fiat dealer in that time and did sold the Yugo toooooo.( in huge numbers......namely 3 pieces😂😂😂. Even the Zastave Yugo/Yugo 45, did way better and lets just say what everyone knows already..they've been , absolutely quality cars?) There is a remarkable similarity between the 1985 Hyundai Pony XP 5 doors and the in 1987 launched Sana( Zastava 103/ Florida). Even more interesting is the fact that both models been designed by a guy called: Giorgetto Giugario. It seems, he re-used the Hyundai concept again.... The ZX appeared several years later...in 1991 and strangely enough Bertone did trow a more than closer look to the both earlier mention car models. Just my two cents and in the car industry....there aint no certainties, who etc etc... however, I do really hope , the new owner, bring it back alive. The car is quirky enough to save.😊 Next cars that have to go.....both Oltcit. 😂
We did receive the Hyundai Pony here in Canada. There are even a few still being driven. They were surprisingly very good cars if given proper care. Being rear wheel drive, they were even engaging to drive.
I thought the Favorit was great, both in design and quality/reliability. I owned a phase 1 Felicia. One of my favourite looking cars when I was a kid. Skoda really was the one when it came to the eastern European manufacturers back then. Ian should get hold of an FSO sometime...when was the last time you saw one or even heard the name?!
They did sell the Yugo here in the US but it had a very poor reputation and considered very low quality. Not sure if that reputation was fully deserved but it had some real short comings which meant it wasn't sold here for very long. Perhaps if they had started out selling the Sana things might have gone better? Glad to see that little car is going were it can be revived.
I am glad it is going to a new home to allow it to be finished and up and running. With a name like Florida, it was probably either being geared for the US market or to project a sunny image (as most folks think of sun and warmth when they think of Florida). However any chance of it being brought to the USA was doomed by both the crappy Yugo Koral (called Yugo in the USA) and then the war of the 1990's. I don't know how the Sana/Florida drives but the Yugo was pure crap. Before I criticize a car I usually like to think about where a car is slotted and which part of the market it is geared to. I am not going to compare a 1980's subcompact car with a 1980's Benz or Cadillac and ding it for the ride quality and lack of features. A subcompact' n the 1980's was for gas mileage and the ability of being able to get a new car for cheap. However the Yugo. It was not reliable and was quite underpowered(even for a sub compact car of the time). It was the cheapest new car out there during that time ($3990 or so if I remember correctly) but there were other better cars new and used out there starting for a little more (even the Hyundai Excel (a crap car itself) was a better option. There were transmission issues (on a manual transmission ironically), the car was slow and carbed (in 1990 the car finally got fuel injection just in time to be killed off in the USA). In a way, that was sad the Yugo was not a better car. It was small but it was very roomy inside and the dash was nicely laid out with easy to access switches. The interior was very clean and thought out.
I missed a bit there - "Small Ladies are very noisy things"? Only sometimes. I searched around a while ago and saw a relatively recent photo of a UK registered red Sana? I had a ride in a friends Sana years ago. It was rather frightening. I merely rested my hand lightly on the frame of the door & the door gap got wider! 😮
I have an idea for going to car shows with the more family unfriendly cars in the fleet. What about a car trailer as you have a great tow car... Just thinking aloud 😁 I admit that I'm becoming terrified by the size of my motorcycle collection and I don't even have a UA-cam channel!!!
Talking of Yugo's in America there is one in the the Dragnet film with Dan Ackroyd, and I think it was Tom Hanks. Near the end a Gold one if I remember right. Dum de dum dum.
Shame you never got the chance for this project to progress but at least you know it's going to a good home, will have to have a wee look at the Fuel Power channel to see the progress on the Sana. Hoping once it's restored you get a chance to drive it once restored.
I would've liked a restoration on this one, but maybe Fuel Power will do so... although I've never really found the Florida quirky, it's like the most basic-looking 5-door hatchback imaginable, and yes, it's very much like the ZX or the Tipo. Could we have maybe a bit more Oltcit content then? I'm curious about how it would hold up technically on a longer roadtrip...
Not just the Sana with four doors. They did the Zastava 311 and 511 which was a reworked Fiat 128 with 4 doors ( I think they did a 2 door as well, but can't remember). It didn't drive like a Fiat unfortunately, and yes I drove both.
No that was a prototype never ever came into production It was built but no engine nothing. Didn't come frome the ground. There also was a estate as a study built.
I think I've just realised that Aging Wheels must be your American cousin - no Citroens but he's got a Yugo and a Reliant, all manner of other weird vehicles (eg Trabant, electric Chinese Smart copy), finds/reviews unusual vehicles like the Tata Nano and Nissan S Cargo and his DIY skills can also be regarded as "improving".
I am personally glad that it has been relocated to a new home. Being Serbian, I would've been sick to my stomach if it was sent off to a junkyard or scrapyard, knowing the fact that only 30,000 examples of the YUGO Florida were ever assembled, and what I assume to be an even lower number over in the UK where it was known as the (1988-1992) YUGO Sana. I am very glad that it is going to be restored back to it's former glory.
@@HubNut That's amazing to hear. I am glad that it has still not yet ended up in a scrapyard or junkyard, which would've been the worst ending for this rare piece of automotive history. If it isn’t worth saving, or if the specific parts are that scarce and rare to find, then I recommend that it be used for parts for any other Sana owners, if they are still out there.
Hi Ian I hope the Berlingo gives uou some reasonably trouble free family motoring gor a 16 year old car anyway. I think getting the Yugo and Camry will give you all a bit less to think & worry about. Hopefully if you can get the Charade back on the road & Miss Hubnut through a driving test then you will have someone who can drop you for future car collection capers. I did feel sorry for Miss Hubnut when you were charging for the bus with her little legs going like chipped 2 CV just to keep up. Hope the Berlingo works out better than the Camry, Rover, Delica, Bluebird & many, many more, OMG It is turning into a KTel throwback 🤣

All the best, really wanna see this car restored
It sounds like a film sana in Somerset greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
oh look forward to that
Good to hear that the Yugo is going to a safe new home
It’s nice to see people who have the tools and skill, restore cars like this. I hope it gets revived.
Patience more than skill and tools
I used to work at the old yugo dealership in Smethwick. Drove a few of these
Shame, the one that was never meant to be. I look forward to following the Yugo's future progress.
Good luck to the new owner. Sometimes you have to know when to say goodbye. Still plenty of cool cars to keep us entertained.
Shame that's it's going - but thankfully to a good home. Always had a soft spot for these after sitting in one and being rather impressed at the 1989 London Motorfair at Earls Court.
Bye Bye, Sana, you lovely little car👋🏻! You'll be restored soon❤️!
I love the Sana design, hopefully it will drive again eventually.
So glad it's going to be restored

One thing about the Citroen Berlingo - it was touted as a modern day 2CV6 iirc. 😎
I thought the Citroen C3 mk1 was the modern successor to the 2cv especially when they brought out the Pluriel version.
Ugh. Not a C3 fan. Berlingo was more like a 2CV in that function was absolutely key to its design, and flashy design was not.
@@HubNut I am not much of a C3 fan. Don't tell my Aunt that though as she had one. It was ok but a bit dull.
Yes - quite agreed. Things have got completely out of hand, which is easily done.So this is a move in the right direction.
It's a shame but at least it's gone to a good home. Have subscribed to Fuel Power to see how they get on with it
For what it’s worth, I believe Cribyn garage not too far away was a Yugo dealership back in the day.

You played your part Ian. At least the Sana survived to be restored by someone else. It could just as easily been scrapped.
A great desion it has gone to a place that it will be brought back to life

Among taxi drivers in my city, Sana (called Florida here) used to be notorious for weak half-shafts.
Sana-ty rules. I hope the resto goes well.
In the Netherlands is in
a old dealership a brandnew
unsold unregistered Sana.
Why did it not sell?
Where in the Netherlands?
Reason why it was called Florida (after there was public competition to name the car when it came out in '88) was:
1) It had huge glass area, so it was bright inside like in sunshine Florida
2)Zastava Koral just started bein sold in USA.
I feel sorry for the trailer.

1:08 Having lived with a small lady for many years I can confirm that they are very noisy, even when not wheeling trolley jacks.
Sad to see it go!
We share much in common, but he easily beats me for hopeless electric vehicles of various types.
Yeah it is a shame that the Sana project never got off the ground. Still at least it has made more room for the Berlingo. Brenda Berlingo?
I am personally glad that it has been relocated to a new home. Being Serbian, I would've been sick to my stomach if it was sent off to a junkyard or scrapyard, knowing the fact that only 30,000 examples of the YUGO Florida were ever assembled, and what I assume to be an even lower number over in the UK where it was known as the (1988-1992) YUGO Sana. I am very glad that it is going to be restored back to it's former glory.
It has changed hands again but is still fighting to be saved!
Sad to see it go but got to be realistic. Would love to see a test drive once restored.
The Yugo 45A was a point of humour in the Dan Akroyd film Dragnet.
The movie failed miserably as well.
