So glad you enjoyed it. They all had a lot of funk/soul. Too bad they didn't stick together like the Stones did. We would have all been happier. Thanks again.
Thanks - I love playing Don Brewers songs. It's funny - anytime someone talks about triplets, John Bonhams name always comes up. I think Bonham is great in his own way but Donnie was the master of triplets at age 21. Just check out the first album - such an under-rated band.
I have watched tons of GFR stuff over the years on youtube but have just found the best one now. This is the most perfect and joyful Don Brewer cover. This show is 15 yo., hope you are still fine.
Yes this is the most bad ass song on the drums that Grand Funk did - and to think he was like 24 years old - I wish they would all get back together again- thanks for watching
Man, he never misses a bit, not for a milisecond. The guitar, the bass, the lead voice they are all so amazingly skillful. Can't get tired of their music, ever. I don't even need to see them personally, their music is all that really matters. Their energy is transmitted like an electric wave all over my nervous system and I feel completely rejuvenated.
I play many instruments (guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, fiddle, keyboards) and play them well. I was considered to be one of Wisconsin's best guitarists in the '70's. So I can honestly tell you that this is one of the most mind blowing performances I've ever seen. You didn't miss one little beat, anywhere...absolutely amazing!
If Neil Peart had played these exact same notes this performance would have been heralded as one of the greatest rock performances of all time. Don Brewer was highly underrated and incredibly under appreciated. FABULOUS cover, by the way. WOW........
Wow fuckin wow, you got it man. This is one my fave Grand Funk tunes from E pluribus. When they were a true hard rock trio jammin it out for real. Are you sure you aren't Donny incarnate? lol
Fantastic job on a fantastic song. I never got to see Grand Funk in the 70s (for some reason they never stopped in Rock Cave, WV ), but I made sure the hills were alive with the sound of footstompin, high falootin, american band, rock and roll soul tumblin out of the darkness music.
Yes, I still play...learned note for note all of Farner's solos years ago...love it! Would love to be in a GFR tribute band someday...Mark is a wonderful Christian man, and boy, do we need more like him these days!! Dan
MAN!!! I felt like hearing this song after some time, looked for a live version on youtube and saw this. MAN!!! Replayed it four times, and I hardly ever do that for any song! You... nailed... it.
Glad you liked it - I'm trying to get some guys to do a virtual video of this - So far I cant find anyone to handle the bass line or no one has stepped up to the plate so far. If you know of anyone let me know - Thanks
@TheDrumChannel. I already know how to play the bass line. I just need to learn how to post a video on youtube. I'm not savvy about that kind of stuff but I'll get with my son who does know and I'll see if I can post a video of me playing the bass to this.
That song just has everything doesn't it. The filthiest cranking guitar, brilliant bass and well...... the drumming......it's just awsome watching you play it.Thanks for putting it on. I never get sick of it.
Awesome and totally blew me away. I loved Grand Funk back in the day, and the power of Don Brewer's drumming made this THE Power Trio of the day. They set the standard on playing with Power and Grace. I saw them live twice in the 70's, and they were really good. I'd still pay good money to see them perform today.
@different1able Glad I was able to impress you. I think this is one of Don's top drumming songs from GFR. Love the fact that he was only about 24 when this was done. Grreat job and I'm glad to see he is still out there playing (and alive)
Grand Funk Railroad - visceral and gets to your insides to quickly. Saw them Oct 71 at the (then) Seattle Coliseum - 2 1/2 hours of GFR that still resonates with me today. The critics had it so wrong. The music was good, but the feelings about the music, went SO DEEP. Get GFR in the R&R Hall of Fame.
My favorite GFR tune. I know it on guitar. The vocals are so great also. And bass. Just the rocking tune I’ve always loved. Since 72. Hard to believe so old now. Saw a recent Farner show. He’s still able to sing and play this music!!! Drums sound just like the Don version.
OH man, listen to the sound of those acoustic drums and Grand Funk!!!! YES!!!! (Sometimes I listen to these just to feel better, when I've been forgetting there's cool things in life, ya know? Drumming and Grand Funk. Wow. It don't get better than that!~
I have played drums for years trying to get Brewer's style down. You have blown me away with your tight drumming with every slam of the skins! Fantastic my man!
I Come Tumbling' is far and away my favorite Grand Funk song. You play it as if you wrote it. I'm impressed beyond words. All that I have left to say is "thank you, your drum playing is awesome. I love it.
exelente ejecucion ,un gran cover del grandioso lejendario gran funk te felicito, eres un gran baterista, pocos como tu. saludos. desde orizaba veracruz mexico
I agree, this is 1 of my favorite G F R tunes also...how I wish they had a good dvd of them on the market...my favorite 3 drummers in no specific order are ..John Bonham..Keith Moon..Don Brewer. You are a great drummer ..will subscribe.
Im no drummer but Ive watched this vid about 30 times. What a jam! Man your talented. Im 41 and only have gotten into GFR for the last year. I was turned onto them by an older guy at work and was blown away being a Zep fan I didnt think anyone could touch them. How wrong I was. These guys are the real deal. Ive been trying to have everyone I know listen to them when ever I have can. GFR isnt even mentioned when you talk about rock history. Don, Mel and Mark deserve to be recognized .
Thanks Don Brewer is the real leader in my book. For a guy who was about 22 yrs old at the time, he has so many good riffs and structure to his playing. Peart is good too but live doesn't come close to the amount of energy of Don has. Thanks again
Great assessment by most and yourself. A great underrated band and Don was and is an amazing drummer. Always loved that tight sound (snap) of his snare. Amazing job Joe.
I live im São Paulo-Brasil and my english 's very poor, i like to much your work, you're a very, very good drummer...congratularions! I know Grand funk's work since 1971, since Et Pluribus Funk...(the best album)... Don't stop "amigo"... Cesar-Cúem
Wow dude I am impressed, you did a great job on this song...Don Brewer will foever be one of the best drummers around, and you are right there too bro!! Blessings
Fantastic performance. I became a drummer in 1970 (entering High School) due to Don Brewer's drumming on the Closer to Home LP. I had never hear anything like that previous. Your interpretation of I Come Tumblin' is exactly spot on - every nuance and beat precise. Excellent job, indeed!!!
thanks. That's due to me hearing On Time for the first time. I was hooked. I remember my brother saying to me 'Don't you play anything else but Grand Funk". I guess after playing so much of it you aquire the style. thanks
TheDrumChannel Very nice..... An enormous fan of Funk since 1970. A musician myself. And in a band called "Phoenix" (go figure) back then. Between them and Sabbath it was all we played. I have since reunited with the same bass player from my old band. I heard your drumming on Funk yesterday and I just have to ask you. Is there anyway possible to get this track of you playing without any background noise, no music? We would love to add our playing and vocals to your track in my studio to complete the song. We've no capabilities to do the virtual thing. But we can certainly add our parts and make sure you get your copy and crediting you on the drums. I live in Florida, my bass in Idaho. He sends his tracks and I do the mixing and mastering in Cubase Pro 9 in my studio. Would love to do this if it's alright with you???? Let me know. And great drumming in your vids brother.
zapped56 yes. I believe I still have the tracks. please contact me back in a few weeks as I'm actually right in the middle of moving and just disconnected ally stuff.
TheDrumChannel Thanks for getting back with me. Looking forward to doing this. Hope your move goes smooth. I know the pain of that one. Thanks again. Mike
This is the first time I caught TheDrumChannel and what did I see? Drumming to GFR. OMG! Fantastic. You are incredible! Thanks for posting this. I truly enjoyed it. It made my evening!!
Thanks you - you look like a major GFR fan as well. DBrewer is so much fun to play - he has so much feeling behind his drums. I guess that's what sold me. Thanks again
I been listening to GFR since i was a lil kid. Being from Michigan and having older brothers it was almost mandatory listening! They were trailblazers in every sense of the word, and Im still amazed how a small 3 piece band from Flint could conquer the world...I love your work on the drums and this vid ive added to one of my favorites, awesome job man!!!
As a non-drummer who has nonetheless enjoyed AIR-drumming to this track since age 6 (b-side to "Footstompin' Music"!), I gotta tell you I enjoyed the hell out of that.
Muy Bien Drum Man, Fantastic !!!!!
+TheDrumChannel - There goes my Translation: "This drummer is brilliant. Very rarely I have listened to other drummers with such punch. Furthermore, "I come tumblin" is a difficult track and many years ago Mr. Don Brewer played it phenomenally. In the cover el Senor Drummer plays it phenomenally and in a simple way. Very good Mr. Drum Man, fantastico!
this is one of the greatest rock drum songs of all time the break down in this is fucking the sickest drumming youll ever hear your n amzing drummer Don brewer was the man respect

Brother, GFR all the way, especially the early stuff~
You showed that garage rock wasn't easy, now all 4/4. Keep on rocking.
I have watched tons of GFR stuff over the years on youtube but have just found the best one now. This is the most perfect and joyful Don Brewer cover. This show is 15 yo., hope you are still fine.

Viva, Don Brewer!!! Viva, Grand Funk Railroad!!!
Wow fuckin wow, you got it man. This is one my fave Grand Funk tunes from E pluribus. When they were a true hard rock trio jammin it out for real. Are you sure you aren't Donny incarnate? lol
Thank you - just a guy who learned how to play drums from many years of listening to Don Brewer

Boundless Energy and Drive .. Just like Brewer ... Perfection Joe !!
Joseph Digilio thank you for the nice compliment
MAN!!! I felt like hearing this song after some time, looked for a live version on youtube and saw this. MAN!!! Replayed it four times, and I hardly ever do that for any song! You... nailed... it.
Thank you so much - such a bad ass song
Even here in "darkest Africa" believe it or not we love Grand Funk!! You make drumming look so easy & fun! Great job man!
I tune in periodically to watch you do this...Love your spirited Funk-nature....you deserve the accolades.
Wow - I guess I picked the right song to play. I'd love to see some videos of your band - Thanks
It's the whole ball of wax. The chops, the feel, and the attitude. Outfreakinstanding
Glad you liked it - I'm trying to get some guys to do a virtual video of this - So far I cant find anyone to handle the bass line or no one has stepped up to the plate so far. If you know of anyone let me know - Thanks
TheDrumChannel I will try to learn and play it.
Cool
@TheDrumChannel. I already know how to play the bass line. I just need to learn how to post a video on youtube. I'm not savvy about that kind of stuff but I'll get with my son who does know and I'll see if I can post a video of me playing the bass to this.
@ForReelFunk Thanks - I appreciate you checking these out. There are not that many GFR die hard fans but for sure you are one of them
That song just has everything doesn't it. The filthiest cranking guitar, brilliant bass and well...... the drumming......it's just awsome watching you play it.Thanks for putting it on. I never get sick of it.
