Laura, I'm Polish that was living pretty close to Krosno ( it's a city in Poland). The piece that you have is pretty unusual in color as most of them were dark, white and between. They used to be " it" in the '80 and were kind of expensive back then. Mostly people were bringing them as a gift to the US. As a kid they took us to the Krosno factory from the school and I was fascinated what you can do with a glass. Fascination with glass and become a glass artist went away, once I learn how dangerous it is. Those artists are dying at a very young age because they develop problems with their lungs from blowing the Christmas ornaments, etc. I'm still an artist, but the glass thing...I said no to that. Thank you for your positive videos and the knowledge that you are sharing. I always learn something new, even that I thought when I was 12, that I'm the smartest navel of the world. LOL. To old to denying that there is always something new to learn! Hello from Illinois!
That is terrible about what it does to their lungs 💔 I grew up in/worked in the stone industry and the health issues from breathing granite and marble dust is terrifying now that they know how dangerous it is 🥺 I hope they have found ways and implemented safety into glass art blowing to keep the artisans safe ❤️ Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
I have a red vase/raised bowl like that yellow one but I got it for $16.99 from HomeGoods many years ago. I don’t think that yellow one was at all different from my red one.
I totally think the shutter doors will work on your pantry with the lighter wood door. It looks great in your entrance so trust your instincts. And amazing finds. You had a great shopping day!
Like the shutter doors as well. To the tippy top is a great idea but wondering if they may appear better if you place the hinges on the inside of your pantry area instead of. In your kitchen. It will make the area appear more roomy with the open threshold in the pantry doorway to go through. Just some thoughts. So jealous you have such great options to shop!
I came here to say the same thing - love the doors but wonder if they might work better for that second space we saw inside the pantry, as opposed to the outside.
Wondering if the doorway couldn’t be framed with wood inside to bring the space into the right size for the big olds and perhaps even add a frame around the exterior of that space to cozy it up?
Here is possibly an odd idea for your pantry doors. What would you think about putting them INSIDE the doorway opening? That way they could open into the pantry and wouldn't interfere with the exterior door's opening. You could easily raise them 2-3 inches, but hang them INSIDE the doorway frame. I think the offset would allow for a good visual transition between the two types of wood and not have them competing with each other. Certainly worth considering, or at least trying them out that way. I know it's not the regular way to set in doors, but it might look very cool. Wonderful video, and I'm always amazed at what your thrift stores offer up. Incroyable!
only problem with that is unless you flip the hinges, the shutter bar will be on the opposite side, ya you would have to change those, it may not work inside if she has a light switch there also.
Laura, the caliber of your videos and staging is exception! You are inspirational in design techniques. Also, the information you deliver on the items you purchase...and sometimes not purchase...is very helpful. I very much look forward to when you release a new video. Thank you for all the enjoyment you bring to so many!
@@leftcoastrevivals I agree, I am an artist with an antiques and design background and I think you do beautiful Laura with your staging and decorating, you put alot of thought into EVERYthing you do.❤
Thanks for your kudos to Habitat! I volunteer at our local one in Loveland Colorado and have loved my interactions with the other volunteers and adding to our community with wonderful and affordable finds. ❤️
I love the repurposed shutter doors for your kitchen! The best interior designers say don't make things "matchy matchy" so you are fine with combining wood tones. Plus it expresses your more eclectic style! Having the doors raised a bit from the bottom will help when you are sweeping and mopping the floor.
Keep those cool shutters! Yes, raise them up a bit (who cares if they are 'short' on the bottom?) and I think they'll look cool next to your new door - I love the two different woods by your other door. Plus you love it so don't second guess the choice! It makes you happy! Maybe while you're busy cooking or putting groceries away, keep the pantry shutter doors open, then just close them when you're done. They are so cool!!! Score!
I love the idea of the louvered doors! Could you add some wood to the bottom of the doors? You have the most beautiful thrifted decor pieces. You have such a gift for selecting and staging items. I truly enjoy your videos ❤️😊
That table is just beautiful, wow! I think you made the right choice with the folding shutter doors. You can always just keep them folded open until you don't want them open :)
Love the contrast between the shutters and the door. It creates an interesting visual moment. Funny how those shutters have made the rounds. My house was built in 1958 and someone used those exact shutters for closet doors in my bedrooms. I think they make attractive doors.
Pier 56 on the waterfront in 1970s seattle was the home of Trident imports..we used to buy those wooden boxes quite inexpensively...we also bought the beautiful printed bedcovers to make long peasant dresses and room separators for small apartments 😏❤️
Hi Laura ,greetings from Perth Western Australia. The shutters are great for the pantry. With the louvres you could open or close it without having to actually close or open the doors. During summer things could get a bit warm in an closed room. Thus opening the louvres will help with air circulation. Size wise, you could ask the guy who is fixing the kitchen door to add additional trim to the louvres to make it look complete.. That's my idea. BTW I love shutters .all my windows in the house has shutters. They are pricey but worth it.❤👍
I think it's a good idea to have doors on the pantry. It's the 'messy' space where all the ugly packaging and small appliances live. People always have good intentions about having a beautiful pantry and decanting all their foods into pretty containers and keeping ugly mixers etc tucked away but in reality it's just too hard to maintain and even the most organized pantry turns chaotic every now and then - especially if you're entertaining! The mixed wood tones work great and I think it's a good idea to lift the doors and have a gap at the bottom because that's going to make cleaning the floor easier if there's enough space to get a swifter underneath.
Yes to the pantry by folds. Replicate the trim/casing as the windows shutters. It will look like it has always bin there and fill in the door opening. Mount the pantry doors to fill to top of the door opening.
I know this video came out quite awhile ago but I’ve been catching up on Laura’s older videos. I learn something new on every video watch. Love the shutter doors. They'll give your kitchen another dimension, especially with the ceiling contrast. Can't wait to see them with the beautiful door once installed. Bravo!

I'm from Poland. I remember when these Krosno art pieces were popular. They were in every household. Then, they become out of date and passe and now desirable again. They are very sentimental to me, but I can still see the 90s in them and my mum hiding it because she wanted something more in fashion 😂

Keep the shutters! It’s a great look by your other door. I am convinced you manifested that round, twisty glass piece that you saw on a tv show, that’s how it goes!
Laura, maybe you could even add a piece of trim, like a narrow cornice, to the top of the entry to the pantry. I really like the accordion doors there, and it does tie in with the ones you have on the windows! Score!!!

If there is still a gap, you can add a strip of wood above the saloon doors, and color match it with stain to get the same symmetry lines with the main door. Love the contrast. Like the shutters. Leave them at their current length. Once they're install. Add long decorative topper. Long stain glass panel made to fit. Or cut long wood piece that might be carved or distressed. Or add leftover tile on long piece of wood topper for the header. Add mosaic pieces in place of the tile. Or organic found items as driftwood or found objects on the piece of wood that fills in that gap 🫠🙂🤗

Oh my goodness, I literally just wrote the same thoughts of placing them inside.
If you place them inside the pantry, you can leave them OPEN, making access easy during a busy cook day. Close them when you want to hide the room.
That's a great idea! Then they also won't butt up against the kitchen door.
I was thinking the exact same thing !
