Folie a deux, mate! ;) Everything Todd Barton does is an inspiration in this area of synthesizers, so he deserved the shout-out without question and everyone watching this should follow him. I keep watching this video and on my 5th viewing I’ve realised I should patch Complex-1 in Reason in a different manner. Now I have 3 totally different sounding voices to explore anew.
    There is value in leaving a patch alone and exploring it thoroughly for a few weeks and then revisiting the original premise and seeing where it can take you in a new configuration. Wonks and bonks got the win!

    "A modular without a design, is a money incinerator" . . . Built mine to look and sound like what I think of when I think of giant modular synthesizers of yesteryear . . . Turns out, that's just a synonym for money incinerator. Alongside decadence, marriage, project car, and home renovation. :P

  • @MadelnMachines

    I'd really like to see you design a 'modulation expander' system for those looking to add more modulation or more creative modulations to synths like the Arturia Minibrute 2S and Behringer Neutron. I think you could really take these synths from something quite basic and tradition to powerhouses with a few well chosen modules.

    • @bentropy
      @bentropy Рік тому

      this is a great idea. I recently got a 0-coast and Loopop has done not only a "hacks" video for it (exploring workarounds to its limitations and weird tricks) but also a "pairings" video recommending modules you may want to add to it, to really unlock its capabilities.
      I'm always eager for Mr MylarMelodies insights along these lines. I love this series. I think he really breaks down the directions you can take a rack at a level that keeps things affordable, portable and useable without being totally overwhelming.
      My advice to someone getting into modular [after trying to sell them on the benefits of fixed architecture synthesis, instead, which I think makes more sense for all kinds of users, especially beginners] would be to start with one of these cost-efficient semi-modular synths (we could add the Moog mother-32 or its Behringer knock-off, the Pittsburgh Lifeforms, and some others) because you get a lot of bang-for-buck, and then branch out to a case where you can add one module at a time, master it and all the possible interconnections with the semi, all the while still having the basic music-making patching capabilities of the semi at the basis.

    I really appreciate the thought and effort that you put into your tutorials. They're invaluable and we owe you massive gratitude! I have a constructive criticism - coming from a place of deep appreciation - that I hope will make your future videos maximally useful to people like me, who are still learning the patching theory & techniques involved in modular.
    Sometimes you begin patching and tweaking settings very fast, understandably excited, getting into the sound and playing .... but you don't always eventually slow down to adequately explain what you've done & why, in terms of the signal flow or the thinking involved in the cabling/settings, at even an intermediate level. It just flies by, between the tweaking and sound exploration. Or you'll occasionally cut to an already patched (even partially) without patiently explaining what *exactly* we're looking at. I'm not saying you NEVER do this slow, patient walking through - you do and you're great at it! But we - especially beginners and intermediate modular synthesists - would get more from the time you put into making these vid and we put into studying them if you'd do more slow steady hand-holding along the way.
    Hope the gratitude and appreciation comes through in this suggestion/request.Thanks a jillion.

      Yes but part of the question there is whether or not that would make viable solution. Seeing as a eurorack build of a Sub Harmonicon is in fact a SubHarmincon. Same goes for the DFAM. The difference with the Buchla Music Easle it being difficult to obtain at the 3k-5k price tag....Dfam and sub harmonic on would be more like the reverse. A testament to the genius of them..

    Great stuff: Another suggestion: The Pearl Syncussion? Tricky thing would be to open for the routing options of the oscillators.

      Syncussion is a great shout. It’s modular - rerouting is easy! But like with the Easel, you’d have to repatch for different sounds.

    the RYO Penta DIY sequencer would be perfect for this. It’s got the 3, 4 or 5 step thing just like the Easel

      Great shout! Only thing is to also have the gate sequencer too!

      I absolutely love the Penta! But I think it makes a huge difference that the Easel has seperate gate&cv sequencers, that allows for wild phase shifting patterns with just 3-5 steps.
      Also a big shoutout for the POCA, love to see these wonderful under-the-radar modules getting some attention! Already looking forward to the next episode :)

    RYO makes a great 4hp 5 step sequencer which can also be switched to be 3 or 4 steps

      Plus it has pads on the back that could be used for a DIY 2hp toggle-switch gate combiner

    Wouldn’t a make noise DPO replace at least 4 of those modules for less cost?
    Great video as usual, Mr Hands!

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 роки тому +8

      It would defo. But also it’s more of a 259 clone than an Easel one...and bottom line is that’s cheating!! The point here is you can put together complex oscillators from what you might already own...

    Somehow missed this when it was released. Inspiring as always with those magic hands. I'm sure I've said it before, but you have a gift for clearly explaining complex patches that are followable to us lesser mortals.

    Great stuff! I second the Ultimate Drum / Percussion Machine and EMS Synthi ideas. I think it would also be interesting to see something like The Impossible Moog or MS-20 or (Insert Typical Monosynth Here), that takes a relatively common synth architecture and “does stuff” to it, makes it more wild and unpredictable.

      profdazzle just get some AJH and a few other modules. Sounds as good as any minimoog ever made and does a lot more.
