Do you hate CVT? And if so, why? I'm really curious, because CVTs get so much hate and I just don't know enough about transmissions to get it. Enlighten me!
100 Rental Cars
100 Rental Cars
I’ve owned 2 CVT’s and on the highway they are usually 100% amazing. It’s mainly just the city, where unless you play music loud all the time or just don’t notice sounds in general very much, it gets super loud while adjusting ratios.
And I found in a rental Altima V6 I took from SAN Diego to SF, the power delivery is inconsistent because it’s doing “fake shifts” but only sometimes so you feel the car cutting power to simulate a shift but sometimes it doesn’t do the fake shift and it accelerates normally which is troublesome merging onto the highway from low speeds...
Interesting. Sounds like something I'd only notice/appreciate after driving one for a while. Makes sense. I do mostly highway miles and only have my rentals for a few days at most. Thanks for the great comment btw. Hopefully I'll get another CVT soon so I can test this out. ✌️
I love the CVT in my Prius C, nice and smooth with no complaints
Friend let me drive his Nissan Sentra Nismo for two days which had a CVT, I found it to be very rubber bandish and l honestly wish it just had a regular automatic.
I think it depends on the Manufacturer, some say Honda and Toyota have the best CVTs.
(Glad you're almost to 100!)
Try having a Duel clutch transmission in your car some of those are really horrendous at shifting 😖
Wait a second, I drive a Prius C2. Do I have a CVT too? I'm gonna have to check. (LOVE the Prius C, btw. Crazy good mpg.)
I cant afford most of these cars but i still love the videos🐸
I know right, most of these are waaaay out of my budget. It's fun to dream though...
Just got this car yesterday. Same exact color. Love it! 😍
Nice!
Congratulations!
You're right. I rented a Maxima SL for a long US road trip and I was extremely happy with the performance.
Nice!
I had 2 2018 Maximas as rentals and loved everything except for the seats! I drive an older Maxima and would easily but another, but these new seats crippled me. Nissan did a great job with their infotainment system, it is easy to use and navigate. The sport switch is fast and kicks that engine up a notch for passing. Great review as always.
I recommend that anyone with a Nissan key fob get a case for it. Yeah, it does feel light, cheap and almost like it’ll fall apart. A case may make it feel heavier and definitely protected.
Great review! I have a Maxima, and it is a fantastic car.
Nissan is giving the Altima an overhaul for 2019...I hope to see the Maxima improve even more. Great review 👍
Thanks! And yeah, I can't wait for the 2019s!
I have the 2017 Platinum and love it. The CVT is great in this car. It does behave differently, but the amount of power it has, especially when passing on the highway is amazing
chris roberts what do you like most about the car?
@@chronot1342 - hard to pick just one. Probably style followed by performance. Lots of people don't give it a chance because of the CVT, but it is great when paired with a 300hp engine. Just smooth quick acceleration at any speed. I'll probably never go back to a conventional automatic again.
Gonna be my first car pretty soon, thanks for the review 👍🏽
Awesome! Great choice. I think you'll really enjoy it. 👍
Did you know that Enterprise ordered a ton of SLs and Platinums at the end of 2017? I’m sure they are still out there in the wild... not sure why they ordered them but they did. Also, all 2018 Maximas have CarPlay and Android Auto. It seems like this rental had a broken Navigation system due to the SD card being stolen (very common)... that may be why it didn’t work.
I love the CVT. I have had a Maxima and am now on my 2nd Murano. The Murano is pretty much the Maxima station wagon. Less horsepower than the Maxima, but a lot of the same styling cues. The CVT is so smooth, it's just nice to drive.
"The Maxima Station Wagon." Awesome description. I'm sold. I don't think I've driven a Murano lately, but I'm definitely going to add it to my wish list now! 😀
HALWG51 if that’s the case then why all of the law suits because of the cvt going bad and others things too?
Had this Maxima for a month from Austin to L.A and back, never skipped a beat, CVT gearbox was amazing, in automatic or manual mode, in sporty or comfort mode. So much fun to drive. I think a lot of people who tend to bash CVTs have not really driven one.
Great video as always !
Austin to LA? Niiice. Sounds like a fun trip. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes CVTs. It is fun, right?
Those CVT bashers are all jagoffs! If you are from Pittsburgh...LOL
I've driven the maxima with the CVT in it for 8 years and 160,000 Miles later, the car still feel new , run very well , out run ALOT of higher end cars with no problem. I dont see a problem with the CVT, good technology!
Hey welcome back been awhile lol cool video you really have gotten really good at your Shooting video and editing keep up the good work job😁👍🏻
Thanks Jeremy! Good to hear from you. And yeah, like got a bit complicated for a few weeks. But it's all good now!
I am looking at cars. Leaving my truck. I hate the decision. So a nice sedan will ease the pain. I am looking at a Maxima. The review will help me with an informed decision. Thank you.
I love nissan in general and they are amazing cars
Anmen! ✌️
Agreed! We've had three Nissan rentals, all of which were awesome!
Very nice and thorough review.
Thanks John!
He’s backkkk!!!
Aww, thanks for noticing. Life got a little complicated for a few weeks. Hopefully I can get back on schedule! 3 to go!
I just got the 2018 nissan maxima sv and man this car rides smooth. And it has good power to it and it's a great buy you going to love it.
It is a smooth ride, right? And congratulations!
Very smooth ride and I love it every tells me very nice car are they fast. And I tell them Oh yes very fast and smooth on the road.
@@selt189ify you use regular gas or Premium
That cutting in and out is spot on. We are on out second Nissan (13 Altima and 19 Armada) the audio is shotty. I’d love a maxima though but I’d have to do a custom head unit
What kind of headlights on sv nissan maxima 2018
I think you have to get the mid-level SL and above to get more out of the infotainment system like Apple Carplay as well as two USB ports in the back.
As a 6 foot driver, with drivers seat all the way back, the back seat has 7" distance between the back seat and the drivers seat. So it is a little tight, but not bad.
Does anyone know if the SV model have blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert?
Also follow up statement, the trunk has enough space to fit 1 large cooler a medium sized cooler, 3 large travel bags and 2 smaller bookbags plus room for more. Very, very nice car.
I have a 2017 Maxima and I have navigation and my bluetooth never fails me. This car hauls ass! I got a ticket pass for getting on the fwy at 90 MPH! The cop couldn't believe it when he saw me there in the driver's seat. He must have thought I was some dude on a joy ride. I love my Maxima, have had it since it first sold in 2016. My ONLY issue with it is that I am 5'3 and the driver's seat is too big for me. It's better suited for a 6'2 person. Getting in it and out f the car is always a struggle for me, lol.
No Apple car play or Android auto? All 2018s are missing it or just the lower trims?
Ive gotten mine up to 137 before i bailed out of the pull and it was still accelerating. Everything else though was pretty spot on.
Bro, im gonna boy one with 49k miles for 9k$ its a good optioy? 2018 sv nissan maxima
Nice review! The Maxima actually comes with navigation, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay as standard, so it is curious that this rental version did not have those installed.
One of the main reasons I prefer Avis over Enterprise. I rented a Murano last November in Florida and some of the standard nav options were greyed out. I think it’s to encourage customers to rent a gps before checking out with the car, but hey I could be wrong!
Really? Well that's disappointing, because it definitely wasn't on my rental. It would have been nice to have to, 'cause the bluetooth connection kept cutting out on me. It was super annoying. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and the helpful info!
Enterprise also disables the self park features on their fleet to. It's a feature I've always want to try. Ever had it on any of your rentals?
Never had it on a rental, but I tried it out recently while test-driving a 2019 Ram 1500. The feature sounds cool in theory, but I wasn't particularly impressed with how it actually worked. The truck itself is amazing though.
Well that's disappointing. If there's one type of vehicle I need help parking, it's the big pickups. Oh well. We can't let the machines take over just yet. And...damn straight the '19 is nice. I can't wait to test it out! ✌️
I just bought a 2018 SV with 3200 miles....its pretty nice so far.....I was gonna get the SR, but the power are all the same ...3.5L, 300HP....I didn't see the need to pay more for the same power range on both models....
Nice! 3200 miles is perfect. It's still "new", but I get you got a great deal. Well done! 👍
@Dan Ordel SR has a sportier suspension
I love the Maxima saw the 2019 Altima looks amazing hope next year will be able do a review but take the Maxima still a nice looking car.
I haven't seen the 2019 Altima yet, but you're the third person to mention how nice it looks. I can't wait to try it out. Hopefully very soon!
@@100RentalCars Saw the refresh Maxima it is nicer than before u need to check it out not sure going to like it or not but might be better than current gen looks bit aggressive now.
Very cool. I can't wait to check it out.
does this drive like the 2020 altima ?
The display on my 2018 Nissan Maxima is incredibly bright compared to my other 3 cars. So you saying it's not brights, says to me "adjust your brightness", very weird statement. I love the display, especially backing up.
There is apple car play in the Nissan maximas in the menu settings
I currently have a cvt equipped car. For the majority of driving, I find no real issues with the transmission. It is generally smooth and quiet. The problem comes when you need to accelerate quickly (i.e. to avoid an accident or pass another vehicle). The engine will groan and it seems that the speed increase is almost inverse to the sound of the straining engine. I have noticed that modulating the accelerator is better option than the typical "floor the loud pedal" mindset with a typical automatic transmission. Newer CVTs are improving and Toyota has a new version that has a dedicated launch gear that should avoid the occasional rubber band feeling when accelerating from rest.
Great comment. Thanks for sharing your experience.
The overdrive off button on the top of the shift handle is for quick merging. The dash has a light on it letting you know you turned it off.
I'm driving my mother's platinum. Enjoying the hell out of it lol 😂
I had the 2002 my favorite car ever ran it up to 270,000 miles
The Maxima is such a great vehicle... it comes equipped with so many standard features... so it's a pretty good deal for $30k... the SV gives you full leather instead of the cloth-and-leather combination, but I'd pick the SL, since I'm an audio aficionado, and would want the Bose sound system. :) On a side note, last weekend, Enterprise treated me to a 2017 Ford F-150 EcoBoost 3.5TT SuperCrew Lariat... loved the truck, and it had 41,000 miles on it, which is the most mileage I've ever rented a vehicle with... she drove nice, though, and she returned 19.9 MPG throughout the trip of mostly highway driving. :)
Nice! I had the 2018 F-150 XLT last week. It's a good truck, right? The XLT was a little too high for me though. I dislike having to hop up into the vehicle ever time...it's not fun in a suit.
This one was a Lariat so it had a lot of features, but still not fully loaded... 2WD meant a smoother ride, better fuel economy from the 3.5TT EcoBoost V6 (19.9 MPG... can you believe it???!!!), and a lower step-in height... it was a great truck, and the 5.5' Bed (weird combo here in MD... Lariat, 4X2, and 5.5' Bed) made it easy to manuever around Asheville, NC (we drove it 8 hours each way from our local Enterprise branch in MD to Asheville, NC and back again). It had almost 42k miles, though, and the rear tires were starting to show baldness... bet it'll get sent to auction since it has high mileage.
I kinda want to go to one of those auctions. Think it'd be entertaining?
I work for a dealer and have been to the dealer auctions (these newer vehicles usually end up a dealer auctions). I had a lot of fun when I went and my boss has fun every week buying and selling cars. :)
I bet! Sounds like fun to me, especially when you get a really good deal.
This car had Apple car play, because I just bought this car, July 5, 2019. 2018 Nissan Maxima, (yes it's a 2018 even though I purchased it July 2019, only $29K, had 58 miles on it, test drive mileage) and it does have Apple Carplay and Google Play. Strange he said there is not those features.
5:00
Whats the point of the 2 empty buttons?
Additional features. My 2010 Maxima has a button for the heated steering wheel. And another button to toggle the radio and A/C controls for the rear passengers.
Mine has apple and android car play. I feel the car deserves the 5 star rating
Jesus Perez I don’t think he knows how to work it Perez because minds have Apple and Android car play
Nice video, this is Dio! First!
Thanks Dio! ✌
Nice video
Thanks!
Better than the Q50??? It’s sickening how they reused parts.
Wait.,.this doesn't have apple play wtf
I’m so disappointed I didn’t but this car I’ve been looking for a car that was jet inspired like Saab’s but I forgot that the Maxima was still on sale.
Did you buy the Saab? I've never actually driven one. What it like?
100 Rental Cars Yes a 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero I always wanted one since I was 10 years old luckily I bought one last year when I was 17 unfortunately I had to get rid of it because engine issues and didn’t pass my state’s emissions I do miss it I might buy another one in the future but I currently own a 2015 Kia Optima SX-Limited in a few years I’m going to graduate and I was thinking of the Kia Stinger GT or 2.0T Premium.
Oooh I do like the look of the Stinger. I saw one driving into work the other day. I say go for it. Before you know it, you'll be an old guy like me driving a minivan! Live while you can!
You would love the Volkswagen jetta it’s an amazing car.
I bet. I'll try and get one. Maybe Turo has one near me...
100 Rental Cars Alamo has one for $20 a day.
Really? Okay, I'll check it out. Although I'm not sure I have an Alamo near me....
The SV isn’t bad but the SL hits the sweet spot.
Really? I've never seen an SL on an Enterprise lot. Plenty of SVs though...
100 Rental Cars I saw 2 SL’s while I was in Orlando this summer. Personally the 300 is my favorite Premium rental car.
@@100RentalCars ......SVs are mostly found in rental fleets, but once in a while at some airports, you'll find either the platinum, or SR......only the platinum and SLs have sunroofs.....the SR is the sportier of all the models....
Good to know! Unfortunately, I never rent from an airport so I doubt I'll ever get one.
Really? I wouldn't have guessed that. It is a fun car. I haven't seen many 300s this year, I wonder if Enterprise stop purchasing them.
My gf has one as a rental. Because her vw totaled.
Even if they recommend premium you don’t need to put premium in. It’s only if the car requires it. Like my car requires it.
Disney Fan same. :/
Good point. Still, I think it's worth mentioning. Kinda unrelated, but my local Shell now sells racing fuel. It's a separate pump like diesel. I've never seen that before.
rental Maxima + race gas = track day
Hahaha! Okay, serious question. CAN you actually put race fuel in the Maxima? And would help make the car faster?
If it's leaded fuel you'd probably damage the cats. Unleaded race gas wouldn't give more power. Most race gas is higher octane to be used in high compression engines to limit detonation.
Looks like you are in the Bolingbrook/Romeoville area
Good eye! Yep, I drove through while filming part of this video. I actually used to do a bit of filming in the Ikea parking lot over there, but I was getting to many odd looks so I moved on to different locations. 😀
@@100RentalCars yeah and going through the dot truck weight station not really good idea
No Apple car play or Android auto?
Apple CarPlay turns on whe through USB connection, basically can use it while you’re changing your phone.
@@JJWilliams910 fr?
@@briannaj.775 yes. I’ve had mine for a year now.
@@JJWilliams910 thank you lord, good to know. has the car given you any problems at all
@@briannaj.775 None at all. It’s really a good quality car.
I recently rented an elantra 2017.
Nice. I just had one last week. Decent car, right?
100 Rental Cars yeah it is i was in California for a business trip.
my 2017 maxi sV . have appleply U 2018 no more🤷🏼♂️
Premium gas that’s crazy
wait wat 97? i thought u were already at 100
Nope. I have posted more than 100 videos, but only 97 actual reviews.
This is a midsize car it’s basically the same size as the Altima.
2018 and up should have apple and google car play
Yes, those are for coins.....keeps coins from rolling around obviously....... 👍
100 rental cars have you ever done a vw jetta.
Nope, I've never driven a Jetta. In fact, I've never even seen one on a rental car lot. I'd LOVE to try one. Got one I can borrow? 😀
100 Rental Cars my gf had a 2017 jetta gli but she totaled and had the versa as a rental she hated it she had a mirage also hated it so enterprise felt bad for her and gave her a Dodge Challenger.
100 Rental Cars so this is what happened to my gfs vw jetta she took it to her mechanic to get an oil change and he needed to take the car on a road test and he took off with the car and never returned so we filed a police report and they found her car all stripped in a mobile home park. It broke her heart the mechanic altered the vin and stripped the car but the mechanic made a stupid mistake by swapping the jetta liscense plate on his gmc yukon xl but the mechanic took off before the police discovered my gfs car. She is very upset.
You're kidding me? That is insane. Did they catch the guy? I hope he's in jail right now. I mean, could you do any worse as a mechanic?
100 Rental Cars no he took off he is currently on the run right now but the mechanic has a extensive criminal records pretty much a convicted felon.
What kind of tea is that? :DD
It's unsweetened green ice tea. It's my current favorite...although it is making it hard to drive home without at least one pit stop.
..it's a lot of tea.
I wish I could post photos in the comments, then I could show you that I'm actually drinking one right now. ....so yeah, maybe I do have a bit of a habit.
9:55 “rear seat back pocket”
Yeah. I'd give the maxima 4 stars too. Very cool and sporty sedan but the ride quality is terrible. It was way too stiff for me. Not luxurious at all. And the car is a little cramped to be what it is.
Why would they add a shifting feature if its a CVT? Really dumb engineers I guess...
Ehhhh looks like you "topped out at 80".
I know! I noticed that in my final edit. It's faint, but you can definitely see the digital speedometer creep up to 80 while I'm claiming to only go 75. Good eye! I blame the car. 70 mph is nothing for the Maxima. If you don't pay attention you can easily do 90+.
Never show the speedo while moving or driving through intersections when filming.
That's probably a good idea. Thanks Ivan. ✌️
you really should have cleaned the car before reviewing it.
Sorry. I review cars I rent for work and I don't have time to clean them. Hopefully, you found something valuable in my review despite the dirt. Happy Holidays!
I hear Nissan's make the worst CVTs out there and to stay away.
Oceanic Flight your totally correct. Most Nissan cvt break at around 60k miles and it's a expensive repair/rebuild, about $3k
Mitul Jariwala is every Nissan vehicle a CVT?
Oceanic Flight not every. The armada and gtr and 370z. I can't think of any more
Really? Is that the reason CVTs are considered bad? Because of the repair costs?
Mitul Jariwala That doesn’t matter for a lot of people.
Thanks Jennifer!
