More importantly; it kinda doesn’t really matter if anyone complains about it because philosophically what Dems are doing just isn’t democratic. They’re not giving anyone a choice. And Kamala calling up the delegates to make them back her to discourage any challengers is completely undemocratic. Jessica was so completely off base when she tried to argue there was an open primary when in some states like Florida they just chose to not hold a primary at all.
No one in the Democratic Party complained about how Biden's mental state has so deteriorated either but look at what happened now. They're so worried about Trump being undemocratic so they forgot completely to check their own action.

No, it's the fact that the actions reflect the will of the voters that makes it democratic. Yes, some times in a Constitutional Republic we have to trust that our elected officials will vote our interests instead of putting the issue to the voters directly, that doesn't mean it's not democratic.

Ok as a leftist, this episode is my biggest disappointment with Jessica. Is she out of her mind? She thinks “earning” the nomination by Harris calling the delegates and privately getting them to agree to vote for her and scaring away any competition instead of inviting it (and then prevailing) is a democratic process?
If this is what we are going to get for all her positions going forward, I’m probably going to have to quit watching the show. Bri had some etiquette issues, but she wasn’t this nuts.

I live in a Blue State and was a Democratic Party member for a long time. The same thing is happening on a local level - the party bosses pick the candidate and then put their money and muscle behind their choice. City, Town, County, State and Federal candidates - all the same. Not very democratic. Because of this back room chicanery I left the party, and seldom vote Democratic any more. Too crooked.
Our new neighbors are from Chicago. He was laughing and said it was the only place where you received invitations to the victory party before the first vote was cast. LOL

Shellenberger is one of very few actual journalists working in the USA. Jessica is overly defensive of the Dem Party and it hurts her in the discussion. Shellenberger is the strongest voice in America for the First Amendment, Freedom of Speech, opposing the rampant censorship being conducted at the behest of agencies of our current Administration.
He's a hero for liberty and freedom. And apparently democracy... Jessica is... A fan of Harris because they made cookies together once

What Jessica described was not a democratic process. It was a cabal against a candidate that should have been the Democratic party's nominee for president. As a democrat I unfortunately have to agree. Neither Hillary, Biden, or Harris were chosen democratically. Had Biden had to debate in a more open primary we may have seen his problems earlier. However, I certainly would not call any of this a coup. The party is allowed to choose its nominee however they want. We didn’t even have primaries prior to 1968.

Yes, since no evidence has been presented. Trump hired Ken Block to investigate and his report found no fraud. We've inspected voting machines, recounted, had claims of stuffing ballot boxes (no names much less confirmation), a claim a PA postmaster talked about backdating letters (the slander suit was settled out of court). A massive search in six close states found about 500 illegal ballots. Less than 100 was knowingly intentional. Some had moved and not changed their address, others voted for family members, etc At some point we need more than "Cousin Joe's enighbor's babysitter's boyfriend know...."

I'm not on board with Jessica's logic here. 81 million people voted for the Biden Harris ticket, or so we are told. Even if that is 100% true (could be - I sure don't know) we can not just assume that 81 million voter support Harris equally along with Biden just because the voted for Him - that is just conjecture. Essentially, this is mainly about the president and not the VP. Its not called a vice - presidential election. Jessica says this reflects the will of the people and I say there's no solid connection, just conjecture.

Joe Biden's age is and has always been a major concern which is why the party should have supported and promoted a primary. I feel like plenty of people were saying that not having primaries was undemocratic. Obviously it’s too late for that now. However, even though USUALLY an incumbent doesn’t go through that process, we’ve never had a potential candidate be this old before and had so many of his own party’s voters not want him to run again. RFK Jr., Marianne, Cornell, and Dean got the shaft and the American people did even more so; they should have had a chance to vote for them.

I have seen Jessica on segments before and on other shows and many times I liked her views or I could at least see logic in them, but I just can't follow her logic recently. I don't know if she was given a role to try and play and she just isn't good at it, or if she is feeling pressure for being host, or if she just has lost a step. I have not been impressed lately that is for sure.

Jessica, 81 million people didn’t vote for Harris. Most of those people voted AGAINST the incumbent, and it just so happened Harris was on the ticket. That is really different than people actually choosing her.

@@menow. Our political system does not strictly follow only one governing philosophy. Many states allow ballot measures, Constitutional Amendments have to be approved by referendum. That is Democracy. Juries are chosen at least initially at random, which is Sortation. Most of what we think about as our government leaders are either elected politicians or their appointees, which is Republicanism. But most of the people who run our government on a day to day basis are career professionals employed by the state, which is Bureaucracy. And if we're being honest, the people who have the most power to influence the direction of our society are the rich. And that can be described using different terms to explain why or how those individuals became so powerful, think Plutocracy, Oligarchy, Kleptocracy, etc.

I’ve only been registered as a Democrat once. Been a registered independent since. Voted for Biden in 2020. The idea that it's somehow undemocractic for the party to bow to the will of the people and push Biden out of office is just nonsense. The idea that deferring to the person already elected to the ticket is similarly nonsensical to call undemocratic.
“Bow to the will of the people”? Didn’t Biden win the primary from democrat voting base? Nobody voted for Kamala Harris, they voted for Biden. Many of the other options were not given to the democratic voters in the primary AND right now. Of course it is undemocratic
