  • @WillN2Go1
    @WillN2Go1 3 дні тому +9

    To the questions: Will Americans, specifically its workers, benefit from tariffs? The bottom line answer is another question: Has the U.S. economy grown faster than the countries it seeks to impose tariffs on? Clearly we are doing great, so the current trade arrangements are to our advantage. The problem in the U.S. is not external, it's internal, the capture of the our increased wealth by the top few percent, while this same group raises the costs of everything. Private equity buys up single family houses, inflating values making it more and more impossible for middle class Americans to buy a home. This forces them into a rental market increasingly controlled by private equity which colludes to jack up rents. This further transfers net wealth to the top percent.
    The people who voted for the president elect were sold a lie. Everything they were told is a lie. The U.S. is not an economic disaster, the problem is increasing wealth disparity. This has worsened under all the Republican presidents starting with Reagan but it wasn't address under Democratic presidents, with one exception. Bill Clinton, but most of what he did was return tax rates to pre Reagan amounts which balanced the budget, began rapidly paying down the national debt and delivered tax surpluses.
    "For every complex problem, there's a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong." H.L. Mencken.

    Actually the China tariffs will address the issue of back door China companies in Mexico. This loophole needs to close. China will just lose more US companies in China. Globalization has gone too far. Whatever it takes to return to self dependence.
    Discussions about US oil imports never discuss US exports. It’s not a one sided deal. Deteriorating US Saudi relations will lead to a needed change in the refining industry. Once the US refiners can process our own oil again the need to import will drop. That will happen.

    • @stringlarson1247
      @stringlarson1247 3 дні тому

      The 'oil' system(s) is an insanely complex subject full of nuance and subtly, and those are two things regular folks don't deal with very well. You hit the bullseye with refining. What I don't know ATM is whether or not the big oil companies (or anyone) are investing in and/or building out new refineries in the US, nor to what extent. I haven't been following the subject(s) for the past few years, but I know there was a dearth of investment in that here in the US a few years ago. I need to dive back into the 'oil' story again and see what has changed, etc.

    Actually, the US's leading export is printing money. Importing many goods, replaced by printing money. Tariffs cause trade to decrease, export printing money also decreases, so dependence on the dollar decreases. In addition, China with a special agreement with several BRI countries, helps pay off the debts of BRI friendly countries with abundant Chinese dollar reserves to the IMF, and USD debt is exchanged for Remimbi debt. USD back to the US can trigger inflation, Remimbi becomes a global currency.

    There is nothing illegal about tariff. Many US trading partners definitely levy much higher tariffs on US goods than US does to their goods. Hence, it is absolutely reasonable to charge at least equal rate on imports into US. Additional punitive tariff should also be reasonable for those countries like China and EU who charge across the board pernicious tariffs on US goods.

    • @DrHWTse
      @DrHWTse 3 дні тому +1

      There is a reason why american companies import goods from China, EU , Mexico etc. Because one of the reasons is that they are cheaper than those same items if made in the US. If you put import tariffs on these goods, then the price of goods to consumers will go up (even if they turn to american made items, as these were higher than the pre tariff import price).......so, like you say there isn't any issues with tariff as long as the consumers are happy to pay it.....which I don't think the Americans will.
