This is my daughter at 17 doing what she loves and sharing it with the world. Shame on you for any negative comments. It breaks my heart to hear the nasty comments from people sitting around on their asses criticizing instead of creating! SHAME ON YOU! Mama loves you Elly!!
Luckily I haven’t seen any negative comments, I’ve used to be absolutely addicted to Ellis version of this song when this video first came out, it just popped into my head and I’m so glad this video still exists. As much as I love the original song, I prefer Ellys version, it’s beautiful and heartbreaking.
I come back to this video every time I need to smile. Thank you for filming this little blessing. if you're still in contact with her I hope you can let her know how many people were touched by this cover.
She sounds exactly like my ex and every other girl I've ever seen or met with a banjo or ukulele "on the road." Lol. My ex could produce the same sound for every song, they all sounded alike. Like this one.
There are 3 versions of this song that each soultap 3 different emotions. They are Sonya Chagas, Elly E. Taylor and the original; Trampled by Turtles. Love you all
Wow, it's been 9 years since I saw this cover and I just had a random thought to look it up and rewatch it! She inspired me to buy a banjo back then (and I'm terrible with it, but I still love it). I wonder what Elly is up to now? I can't find any more content by her.
She changed the words from "Buick" in "Winnemuca" to "bus" in "Grand Junction." I live in the latter, so that's kinda cool. Winnemucca's not a bad place either.
Folk punk at its finest- female punk rockers make my world worth living- To elis mom, fuck the haters your daughters beautiful and talented be proud, pathetic people hate because they have nothing in their sad lives
I've just listened to the original and some other covers, I would buy this version but none of the others. You have an amazingly unique voice, I'm hoping to hear more from your soon!?
+mario lahey I think a certain number of people are probably put off with her feigned nonchalance, like she can just barely remember the name of the original artist & title. Maybe also because, that in particular artist's most popular rendition (official video on UA-cam), with the instrumentation, etc...they literally play the shit out that particular song. Like it's kind of a tough-act to follow. I mean, it would be like if was an okay-enough guitarist and put up a UA-cam video titled Little Wing, giving my so-so, pretty-good take on Hendrix's classic. You know, for certain songs, works, the bar is just a bit higher.
+mario lahey I dislike it. Its because I love the original version from TBT which is fast and naturalistic. It has drive. This is slow and her voice is affected as hell. Hate singers who must mow there mouths to obtain some weird kind of voice. In this filing song is dead for me.
+mario lahey Banjo playing is sloppy as hell, her voice is unnatural and awkward; And pretending she can't remember the name of the artist and song as she knows all the lyrics and clearly plays it all the time, is just a stupid hipster-ish attempt at being edgy, or something. Anyways, there's a lot of reasons I don't like it.
it looks like it is taken off. some banjos don't have resonators though. claw hammer players don't use them because they'd be loud as fuck if you're strumming
I use to squat in England and fell in love with it and the music scene that came with it. Incredible to get the same vibes and feeling from somewhere so far from the UK. Appreciating the talent
Wow! Beautiful….. if any positive critique would be, keep developing that voice there ain’t nothing wrong with the direction you are going. But ten years on would love to hear you now.
Ahh, thank whoever for the internet. Watching this 10 years later makes me feel like 2013 all over again. Great cover, Elly!

Yeah, there's always going to be haters on YT, but fortunately there are way more positive comments than negative ones :)
Luckily I haven’t seen any negative comments, I’ve used to be absolutely addicted to Ellis version of this song when this video first came out, it just popped into my head and I’m so glad this video still exists.

Does she have other music out ? She’s great
Have you considered this is an awful cover? Her voice is good. She is talented. This is legitimately awful.
She absolutely rocked it. It is just as the original. Pure punk rock.
She is phenomenal....I wish I could find more videos of her
I remember listening to this around 5 years ago, i just found it by accident the other day. Brings back memories, well done
Back here again almost another year later still obsessed with this rendition. Officially getting my first banjo in 2 weeks .
Wow, Original and Fantastic ... Powerful Performance . I loved this, it had me captivated from the start. Beautiful ... Thanks
Amazing I don’t know how this doesn’t have millions of views.
I come back to this video every time I need to smile. Thank you for filming this little blessing. if you're still in contact with her I hope you can let her know how many people were touched by this cover.
✌️
This song and this performance are two very special things. Such raw emotion and soul.
She sounds exactly like my ex and every other girl I've ever seen or met with a banjo or ukulele "on the road." Lol. My ex could produce the same sound for every song, they all sounded alike. Like this one.

She changed the words from "Buick" in "Winnemuca" to "bus" in "Grand Junction." I live in the latter, so that's kinda cool. Winnemucca's not a bad place either.

I am SOOO sorry for my last post. I love your version of this song. I know this is not enough.
How could you dislike this?
+mario lahey I think a certain number of people are probably put off with her feigned nonchalance, like she can just barely remember the name of the original artist & title.

+mario lahey She's trying too hard to be different.
+mario lahey Banjo playing is sloppy as hell, her voice is unnatural and awkward; And pretending she can't remember the name of the artist and song as she knows all the lyrics and clearly plays it all the time, is just a stupid hipster-ish attempt at being edgy, or something. +Kickerinthehead No, it's okay to try-hard. As long as you don't die-hard.
I am impressed =)
how did this video only get 102k views in 7 years?
I'm in love
fan nu är jag här igen - så impressed - this is really nice - when I am felling like shit =)
Whats the banjo shes playing? Is the resonator taken off?
it looks like it is taken off. some banjos don't have resonators though. claw hammer players don't use them because they'd be loud as fuck if you're strumming
It's an open back. I have one too, like he said, it's for claw players so that it isn't ridiculously loud when you do the picking
❤❤❤
Why so much dislike?
Magnificant,.----
Does she have a band or anything?
I love her
Is that some sort of old time picking? Its very interesting!
That's my sister3 it's amazing!
Tell her to do more songs.
She's awesome
I use to squat in England and fell in love with it and the music scene that came with it. Incredible to get the same vibes and feeling from somewhere so far from the UK. Appreciating the talent

Holy shit..I haven't seen her since Occupy. Hope she's doing well.
I took a great street picture of her in 2012 a block away from Pike Place Market...I never spoke to her but now really wish I had
Really unique voice. Me thinks she has a bright future.
