Armin made the Ferengi so much better than what was planned for them to be. His costumes were fantastic and he didn't always wear the same one he had a whole wardrobe of different outfits to wear. What a great job he did as Quark. So enjoyable to watch your interviews in a relaxed and friendly manner. Just friends getting together and talking and we get to listen in. Thanks Armin and guys for a great show.💖🚀
You know, it blows my mind to think about how these people, actors who were probably just looking to work and get paid, went through grueling production on a groundbreaking show, endured meddling studios, beurocratic interference and worst of all us trek fans, and here they are many years later still honoring their chracters, the spirit of the series and giving us so much content after all this time when they would be well within their right to forget that part of their lives and tell us to take a hike forever. Thank you so much for your work, for speaking with us and for creating a creative sanctuary that exists nowhere else.
I know he’s gone on record saying that he doesn’t like narrating for audiobooks and it makes me a little sad because his voice and the way he narrates keeps me invested for days on end.
You guys, I ordered Armin's books, and they just arrived, and guess what? He signed EACH of them! OMG! I'm totally tearing up in my room right now. This really just made my stardate!

@@RetrievingSearain I adore Garak - it was so wonderful to introduce my son to Trek when he was about 12 which was 8 years ago (he knew about it when he was younger but just thought it was a different kind of Star Wars so I waited with him because he did not have the maturity to understand the nuance). We started with TNG - then I said now you are on to the really cool Trek which was DS9 - he loved trying to figure out in the first few seasons if Garak actually was a spy.

@@MKDumas1981 I grew up with the Original series and came of age with TNG, love them forever. But DS9 is truly a level of it's own. The best writing dare I say the best actors it was special in it's own right.
Hey, I think I was there too. This was back when the celebrities didn't have security and you ran into them in the hall and you could invite them for a coffee and they might accept that invitation.
@unclejoeoakland I fear I can't remember but he did two panels, Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday he did Richard III ua-cam.com/video/cmFn4gnTAOg/v-deo.htmlsi=H4w85GImod6Lkn5N
Star Trek: DS9 had a lot of actors in heavy face makeup and prosthetics compared to the other shows, and they were blessed to have 3 of the very best in Armin, Andrew and René. Their characters came alive from their first introductions on screen. With so little of their own faces to work with, they each showed such a lovely range of emotions over the course of those seven years. It's great that those three characters also had so much interaction as well (Quark and Odo, Odo and Garak, and to a lesser extent Garak and Quark -- thinking of the scenes where Quark hires Garak to kill him and the famous root beer scene).
I was so enamored by every word of Armin's story that I found myself not participating in the live chat. How did i not know about this podcast? Literally just found it last night 🙏
I first knew Quark watching DS9 in Spain, with spanish voice over , and even with the mask and voice over , Armin's charisma managed to come through and Quark is my favourite character in DS9
The dynamic between Quark & Odo & the chemistry between Armin & Rene really sold the show for me in that first year. I could've watched many more seasons with those characters
I stumbled over this podcast a couple of weeks ago and I'm already loving it. The light-hearted atmosphere you've created is so, so enjoyable and fun to watch! It's also a huge deal that you guys are long-term friends with your guests which makes it even more interesting because how great is it to listen to friends talking about being part of the Star Trek franchise? Thanks for doing this!
I discovered it yesterday 😃 and I am sooo happy to have found it - in depth conversation with sooo interesting people, the swagger they all have in their own way when they groove into the subject matter...things are being said you could never learn neither in interviews nor in conventions... heartbreaking and exciting stuff. Well done 👍 and I am so excited because I have seen/heard Andrew laugh so hard. Watched that episode yesterday. Nana's next.. can't wait to seeing them all 😃😁
The Root Beer scene informs the audience about Quark and Garak in a way that NO other scene ever does in the series. The audience doesn't know, and both characters with all their strength in using conversation to gain an advantage or defense are having a small fencing match feeling each other out and until the end of that conversation even they didn't know how the other felt. That scene is a turning point for both characters that has implications for not just the Klingon conflict, but their roles in the Dominion War as well.
I LOVE the episode where he gets mixed up with an arms dealer. I have trouble juggling season/ep on demand but it was such a wonderful Quark experience. He is not a stone-cold business nut, but he really is a business man with a moral compass.
Met Armin at a Galaxycon in 2019 at Richmond Va, and he was very nice to me and my son. We were very impressed with his demeanor and being a genuinely nice person.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: I adore you guys for expounding so much on the theatrical and performance side of not just your jobs, but your experiences; at the risk of being oddly specific, sometimes it feels like I'm watching Inside the Actor's Studio: Star Trek Edition, and I love it. Hearing artists talk about their art and craftsmen talk about their craft will never not be interesting to me, the fact that you guys are some of the most consequential actors of my life is just icing on the cake.
Armin blew my mind! What a wonderful thoughtful man! I have seen many of his performances but Quark I'm my mind, his acting absolutely soars there. Miss his weekly visit to my television 😢 the DVD or Paramount + will just have to do. Armin is brilliant!
Guys, this episode exceeded my expectations. Thank you sooooo much. It was fantastic! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! 😂Sorry, I just felt like writing it..🤗🤗💗💗🌻🌻
What a great interview of the Awesome Armin Shimerman!! Connor, Dom and Erica did a great interview, and Mark played our #RepresentativeNerd to perfection!! Thank you to the The Shuttlepod Show Crew and for the Outstanding Moderators on the Live Chat!! ONE LOVE #ChatPack 3.0
I love Armin. Saw him at a convention and he was very gracious and kind to all the fans and during his time on stage actually spoke sincerely to everyone. Great guy.
We invented a new religion in my family. I have framed autographed Quark's photo on the shelf, and every time when we lack money - we bow to it and rub fingers making that international money sign. Money always come to us after that. Thank you Master.
One of the good things about Armin first portrayal of a Ferengi, versus his Quark is it show any race is made up of individuals and different subgroups. I have taken that first group of Ferengi as privateers/never do wells/scroungers.
Connor, Dom and Erica - congrats on another thrilling episode! Armin was an incredible guest! Extremely humble and sweet, nothing but kind words to say about everyone he spoke about (all the praises to his wife were very cute.). Very witty too, quite the jokester! Quark is one of the most colourful characters on DS9 and Armin always gave such a fantastic performance everytime he was on screen, it's no wonder he's so beloved by fans. I loved every bit of this episode, it was all so engaging. I loved his anecdote about having all the other Ferengi actors over to his house every weekend so they could go over their scripts, what a boon to their performances it must've been, especially with Armin at the helm. I'm glad it's been determined what Wash has come down with, fingers crossed he's able to beat it! We're all rooting for ya little buddy! Loving the new(?) logo by the way, it's fun! All in all, another great ep of the pod! Can't wait to see what next week has in store! Happy Shuttlepod Sunday everyone! 😄🖖💚🍃
Quark is one of my fave characters, and everything I've ever heard about Mr. Shimerman gives me the impression that he's just one of the sweetest guys. My eternal thanks for his work, on screen and off. (And thanks for teaching me a bit about Shakespeare right here!) Thanks to all for creating this great, enlightening content. Loving this channel!
I really appreciate that Dom is familiarizing with the shows. It really makes a difference when the guest doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting recounting the work they've done and Dom is helping make the difference more and more as I'm catching up on the episodes.
I absolutely love the story where David let you take the exam another time! He recognized how important it was for you and he was a good teacher. Such a beautiful story, thanks for sharing!
Oh my GOSH I love Quark! The Ferengi episodes on DS9 always cheer me up when I'm feeling down. Loved Nog and Rom and Moogie and Quark. They were so fun to watch.
One of my favourite scenes in Star Trek history was an improv Armin and Andrew Robinson did comparing the bubblyness of root beer to the insidious niceness of the Federation.
not improv. listen to the show. They read the lines they were given. But they didnt read them for a laugh as they were supposed to. They read it seriously.
I would love to hear Andrew Robinson's story on how went from playing the psychotic serial killer "Scorpio" in the original "Dirty Harry" movie to Garak in DS9.
I find it amazing that im watching 3 people that absolutely did amazing work that has changed peoples lives and notice that this video only has 83k views, while some content creator will do a silly dance that gets 2 million views. So much talent in that room. Its crazy how time changes everything . 20 years ago a video like this would have overloaded UA-cams servers . You guys are legends. Thanks for your great work
Man he is super well spoken, I could listen to this guy all day! Very concise, eloquent and no misunderstanding in what he wants to tell you. This guy is a proper speaker for sure, loved Odo +Quark. Rest in peace Rene, great podcast this one👍 Now I gotta go buy his books lol
This was a fantastic episode. Armin Shimerman is a wonderful raconteur, a true Renaissance man. And a real mensch; it was heartwarming to hear him express his gratitude and his love for Kitty. The 2+ hours flew by; I could've easily listened for another 2 hours. I've added Armin to my Fantasy Dinner Party guest list. On a shallower note, where can I find the Elixir of Youth these Star Trek actors are taking? Armin is 73 and looks about 15 years younger! I made similar comments about Michael Dorn (70 y.o.) when he was recently on the podcast.
I always remember Armin's kindness when I saw him in person at a ST convention over 20 years ago. His energy is lovely and I am glad that he is in this world. Thanks Shuttlepod Show for the pleasurable 2 hours.
Listening to Armin talk about a teacher that gave him the confidence to find his passion in life brings back wonderful memories of my own drama teacher. I think we all have that one teacher in life that opens your eyes, pushes you to be the best you can be and believes in you.
I am loving these podcasts. I was genuinely surprised Dominic and Conner were hosting this. Thankful they are tho. I loved Armin’s portrayal of Quark on DS9. I feel Quark is one of the most interesting characters in the Star Trek universe. Probably a lot to do with what Armin said about Quark’s moral compass, and how although his set of principles may differ from ours (he is an alien after all) he sincerely adhered to his principles while still being an absolutely reliable friend. Quark always showed up for the people he cared about. I’m thankful Armin played the character down the middle and redeemed the Ferangi from their clunky Next Generatiin origins. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to more interviews.
I love this show and find all guests quite fascinating. However, Quark is one of my all-time favorite characters, and listening to Armin Shimermans talk about his life experiences and his insights into acting was exceptionally interesting. A great job as always Connor, Dom, and Erica. Thank you
Interesting to hear that the tone of the set was so serious. It makes sense because it was by far, the most weighty, gritty Trek. I guess the material really does have a huge impact.
Armin Shimerman is a treasure. Wish he was out there more. Great actor that made Quark come to life. I always wished there was a sequel to "The Magnificent Ferengi".
There was but only in mmo STO and he did voice over for Quark in it. And that liquidator played a fun action part using only throwing blades as weapon and after mission you could get them as reward
This is the best interview I've ever seen. Thank you for starting Shuttlepod and thank you so much for letting Armin just talk. He reminds me of my Grandfather.
You know, we are all “lucky” in many ways. Even if we don’t see it. What I like about Armin is that he acknowledges it and is thankful for all the good fortune that’s come his way. Instead of brushing it off like “well of course that’s just the way it is” he sees that it could have been many other ways, and treasures the simple way it is. We could all learn from that attitude.
Armin’s brilliant, and so likeable. I really liked the ENT episode with the Ferengi (Hope I’ve spelt it right) pirates. And Quark running a bar was a great ploy in DS9. Feeling ill today but this has cheered me up
Commenting before watching today. A guest to study. His character on DS9 uniquely showcased the Federation from an acute and proximate viewpoint. From root beer to prune juice, countless latinum bars went to grocer's pockets, instead of his, I'm sure, for his mention of it. A warm appreciation for Mr Shimerman.
As soon as I saw Armin’s face pop up in my feed, I clicked on the link straight away. What a class act human being, exceptional actor, and Star Trek legend all in one small and humble package! Not that any of the guests have been lesser than the other, but for me personally, this ranks just under the interview with Michael Dorn as my most favorite so far.
One of the greatest characters in the universe in my opinion, and what a pleasure of an episode. Man I love this show- you all do such a wonderful job bringing our favorite actors to light. Much love
God Bless Mama Shimerman for doing what she did and driving solo across the US to California, so her son had the best chance of a better life and ultimately escaping poverty and putting her son on an upward trajectory in life. A true mom in every sense of the word.
I am immensely hungover after an all night booze session with my friends playing Warhammer:Darktide....I only discovered this channel today and I can't tell you what a tonic it has been. I have stayed in bed and binged a load of episodes and thoroughly enjoyed every second that I've spent watching Dominic and Connor interview these fantastic guests. It's really refreshing adding in the guest's career retrospective while weaving in and out of Star Trek mythos as that is quite rare these days.....One of the best hangover cures I've had in ages....
It's amazing as I am watching this and listening to him, all I can think of is Quark. The subtle moves he does with his face, the voice, the way he talks, the way he express himself, is all Quark. What a brilliant artist Armin is.
I'm so floor with each episode. It is so fun to get to know all my Star Trek universe actors! I've viewed each series repeatedly but never was able to attend any of the live events so this is the bomb for me! And I now look at Shakespeare in a whole new light! Talk about rounding the corner! 😀
What a great interview with one of the true giants of the small screen in my opinion. I wasn't aware Armin was an author and just bought a bunch of his books from the link because of this podcast. Sincere thanks for the joy he (and Reed and Trip) have brought us all.
I'm only 24 minutes into the interview, but I felt compelled to comment that this is one of the best interview shows I've ever seen. I decided to watch it because of the Star Trek theme, but I'm so pleased that this is about the actors and their lives. Brilliant. Just what I've been wanting. Nothing else comes close. Well done. Thank you!
As always, beautiful interview. Especially the Pan Can bit. Pancreatic cancer is the worst I've heard of. I think Armin's good luck really did save his wife's life.
Armin as Quark was and is a classic masterpiece of how to play the crooked but much beloved middleman. Much love for this kind hearted and hu-MAN actor. Just wanted to say how I appreciated the longer length of the episode. Cheers on another fantastic show!
Your project is incredibly great. I enjoy every new episode. I am infinitely grateful for your work. I wish someone (other than Kurtzman or J.j.) would come along and produce real Trek again (e.g. under Ira). Blessings!
this was fantastic! Armin, my grandmother lost her eye in the Holocaust and she witnessed such horror, its so difficult to share but I am proud of what she did to survive.
Armin, you are an absolute legend!!! Piggybacking on the initial comment; I put on Quark-centric episodes for my mental health. I love every single appearance you make. You sir are an absolute MENSCH!
What an absolute example of what a human being can be is Armin and other members of the Trek cast. Talk about an inspiration to all both on and off screen.
Armin You Gave Me 1 of My Favorite Characters in TV History With Quark....Your Acting Was Absolutely Phenomenal...Were You as Confident Playing Quark as it Seemed Through The Screen?....You Were Captivating and Flawless
What a wonderful episode. I've had the good fortune to join a few of Armin's online lectures on Shakespearean rhetoric, and discovered a whole new dimension to the text that I never knew existed. I recommend his courses to anyone who has or hopes to play the Bard's characters.
watching this show go from sitting around a dining room table to what is now has been a pleasure. Also, I like how you guys took a break and came back rejuvenated. A lot of podcast shows just keep churning stuff out but the quality isn't that good. you guys are rocking.
Love the interview with Armin Shimerman! Such an interesting man. Thank you guys for the show, it's great to get to know more about Star Trek actors who've done such a great job over the years!
I want to say - extremely well said, and so say we all!
We are so lucky as fans, drowning in content.
Very well said, crewman.
Made me tear up comrade
What do you mean worst of all the “fans”?
I could listen to Armin tell stories for hours.
His voice is remarkable.
He has a 20 in Charisma and his positive "can do" and "I'm so lucky" attitude is infectious and refreshing to experience.
I know he’s gone on record saying that he doesn’t like narrating for audiobooks and it makes me a little sad because his voice and the way he narrates keeps me invested for days on end.

Quark was a fantastic character. Armin gave him such great depth.
He had enough practice. He was one of the first Ferengi seen on screen, Letek in TNG: "The Last Outpost". He also played another Ferengi, Bractor in TNG: "Peak Performance". He has played more different Ferengi than any other actor. Jeffrey Combs, Frank Corsentino, Lee Arenberg, Ethan Phillips (sort of), and Max Grodénchik all played two.
He singlehandedly redeemed them. They were such a throwaway race, but quark and DS9 gave them depth.
Quark and Garak were by far the best characters in all of Trek. The respective actors' performances were out of this world.
Go Mom!
While I still want Linda, Scott and Jolene - I'm loving the show interviewing my fave DS9 and VOY cast ❤
I want Terry Farrel! I'd also like to see her on the show.....ba,da.dump
I too appreciate them deliberately talking to the cast of what is basically now the two almost forgotten star treks-- DS9 & Voyager!
@@NestorCaster: "Almost forgotten"? A lot of people consider DS9 to be the best Star Trek series ever released.
@@MKDumas1981 I grew up with the Original series and came of age with TNG, love them forever. But DS9 is truly a level of it's own. The best writing dare I say the best actors it was special in it's own right.
@@NestorCaster DS9 is far from forgotten. It is the best ST series and it's not even close.
Dominic truly adds to the discourse with his insightful questions, observations, back stories and historical references. Excellent…
Come to Quark's, Quark's is fun, come right now, don't walk run!
“How did you do it!?”
I always thought it was funny when a non earth based character did a rhyme on Star Trek. Does it rhyme in ferengi?
@@bloodink9508: Also, the singsong rhythm of the first Rule of Acquisition.
Oh I love the part where his name rotates around
I can't imagine anyone other than Armin playing the role of Quark. Such a fantastic character portrayal!
I saw Armin at a con in Toronto many years ago. He gifted the fans with a performance of a monologue from Merchant of Venice. Brilliant.
Omg which monologue?
Hey, I think I was there too. This was back when the celebrities didn't have security and you ran into them in the hall and you could invite them for a coffee and they might accept that invitation.
@unclejoeoakland I fear I can't remember but he did two panels, Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday he did Richard III ua-cam.com/video/cmFn4gnTAOg/v-deo.htmlsi=H4w85GImod6Lkn5N
Class actor.
It’s nice to finally see a well produced Star Trek podcast.

The Magnificent Ferengi is my favorite Deep Space Nine episode. Love all of Armin's work thank you for the joy.
The dynamic between Quark & Odo & the chemistry between Armin & Rene really sold the show for me in that first year. I could've watched many more seasons with those characters
props to Dom for letting the interview breathe and evolve here. I very enjoyed the whole episode
Yes, I agree. God bless.
Agree
I stumbled over this podcast a couple of weeks ago and I'm already loving it. The light-hearted atmosphere you've created is so, so enjoyable and fun to watch! It's also a huge deal that you guys are long-term friends with your guests which makes it even more interesting because how great is it to listen to friends talking about being part of the Star Trek franchise? Thanks for doing this!
Thank you! We are grateful for the kind words!
Armin is my favorite actor of the Ferengi characters. Quark was a lot fun. He has the lobes for acting 😁😁😁
You guys are killing it with these interviews! Much Thanks!
Guys, this episode exceeded my expectations. Thank you sooooo much. It was fantastic! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! 😂Sorry, I just felt like writing it..🤗🤗💗💗🌻🌻
that's quite precocious of you. 😄
Yeah, Armin does do that 🤟🖖🙂

I love Armin. Saw him at a convention and he was very gracious and kind to all the fans and during his time on stage actually spoke sincerely to everyone. Great guy.
We invented a new religion in my family. I have framed autographed Quark's photo on the shelf, and every time when we lack money - we bow to it and rub fingers making that international money sign. Money always come to us after that. Thank you Master.

Quark became one of my favorite characters of all time!
Love the positivity of your message @halct5118
@@benjaminbrostrom9067 Aw, thanks so much!
Quark points to his ears ... "Hello?" Now that's a "one-liner" that cannot ever be beat. Thanks so much Armin!
Quark is one of my fave characters, and everything I've ever heard about Mr. Shimerman gives me the impression that he's just one of the sweetest guys. My eternal thanks for his work, on screen and off. (And thanks for teaching me a bit about Shakespeare right here!)
Thanks to all for creating this great, enlightening content.
That was improv…? It’s INSIDIOUS!
That was IMPROV!?
not improv. listen to the show. They read the lines they were given. But they didnt read them for a laugh as they were supposed to. They read it seriously.
But the interview literally says it wasn't improv though. Did you watch the entire video?
I would love to hear Andrew Robinson's story on how went from playing the psychotic serial killer "Scorpio" in the original "Dirty Harry" movie to Garak in DS9.
I find it amazing that im watching 3 people that absolutely did amazing work that has changed peoples lives and notice that this video only has 83k views, while some content creator will do a silly dance that gets 2 million views. So much talent in that room. Its crazy how time changes everything . 20 years ago a video like this would have overloaded UA-cams servers . You guys are legends. Thanks for your great work
What a compliment. Thank you, Brent
Man he is super well spoken, I could listen to this guy all day! Very concise, eloquent and no misunderstanding in what he wants to tell you. This guy is a proper speaker for sure, loved Odo +Quark. Rest in peace Rene, great podcast this one👍
Now I gotta go buy his books lol
This was a riveting episode! Armin is a national treasure and you all showcased him gloriously! Keep up the great work, you’re killing it!!!
Thank you
This was a fantastic episode.
Quark is an amazing character. Thanks Armin Shimerman for your great work on bringing him to life.
I always remember Armin's kindness when I saw him in person at a ST convention over 20 years ago. His energy is lovely and I am glad that he is in this world. Thanks Shuttlepod Show for the pleasurable 2 hours.
Armin Shimmerman, Andrew Robinson and Michael Dorn were my favourite DS9 actors. So much fun watching those guys for years.
The King of DS9! So happy to see all of you well!
Listening to Armin talk about a teacher that gave him the confidence to find his passion in life brings back wonderful memories of my own drama teacher. I think we all have that one teacher in life that opens your eyes, pushes you to be the best you can be and believes in you.
Wow. Listening to Armin go into "educator mode" was AMAZING.
Contrast it to the hijinks, chicanery and shenanigans on the TNG set.
He is getting ready, discussing pay with his dabo girls 😂 he was such a great character
DABO!!
Thank you. Oldus
I had no clue Armin Shimerman was this brilliant. Everyone should watch this, even if you have zero interest in Star Trek.
Feeling ill today but this has cheered me up
Little green men with the shuttle crashes on earth in 1947.....epic
The Enterprise episode with the unnamed aliens that strongly resemble Ferengi was called "Acquisition".
Much love
Thank you!

Armin is a wonderful actor and, after watching this, a wonderful guy. Thank you for this!
What a person, what an actor. I loved Quarck, I admire Armin even more after hearing more of him.
God Bless Mama Shimerman for doing what she did and driving solo across the US to California, so her son had the best chance of a better life and ultimately escaping poverty and putting her son on an upward trajectory in life. A true mom in every sense of the word.
What an amazing human being! Thanks team for having Armin on the show.
Hahahaha. Awesome.
Quark’s character really grew on me thanks to this amazing actor.
obsessed with armin’s mini shakespeare/rhetoric lesson
It's amazing as I am watching this and listening to him, all I can think of is Quark. The subtle moves he does with his face, the voice, the way he talks, the way he express himself, is all Quark.
What a brilliant artist Armin is.
This is rapidly becoming my favorite podcast! Great to see you guys and its so awesome to be able to catch up with our favorite cast members!
Oh great ! Another episode of Dominic talking over the guest.
I'm so floor with each episode. It is so fun to get to know all my Star Trek universe actors! I've viewed each series repeatedly but never was able to attend any of the live events so this is the bomb for me! And I now look at Shakespeare in a whole new light! Talk about rounding the corner! 😀

Well done. Thank you!
I can definitely see why Armin was cast as Quark. He has the lobes for the role.

Love seeing so many DS9 actors! I hope we get to see more in the future as well as Voyager and Enterprise actors.
I figure it is simply a matter of time.
Just found this series. So great for the fans that can't get to the conventions to meet the cast like this.
