Next: "Can you guess the Beatles song from the tape hiss?"
Genius 😂
I was so proud of myself when I got "Something" and David didn't. The main reason I knew it is because I play the bass line all the time. And that walkup happens right before the best part of the bass line -- the fill right after the lyric "I don't want to leave her now."
Jon Smith's Voyages is dope, btw. Downloading it right now.
I could hear the vocals ever so slightly bleeding through.
It was pretty obvious for me. Maybe I listened to that song way too many times
me too but only as been learning that song on Piano
Same here hahahaha
How have I heard these songs 7 million times and I still flunk this test?
You're not alone, bro.
Paul was a genius at adding piano, keyboard, mellotron, and other parts to lift up the others’ songs. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that
Examples are A Day in the Life, Sexy Sadie, Strawberry Fields Forever, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Come Together, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Any Time At All (middle eight), etc
I agree! Paul put so much into the others’ songs.
David, this is what I read from wilipedia about In my Life: "At that time, Lennon had not decided what instrument to use, but he subsequently asked George Martin to play a piano solo, suggesting "something Baroque-sounding".[2] Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece that he found he could not play at the song's tempo. On 22 October, the solo was recorded with the tape running at half speed, so when played back at normal pace the piano was twice as fast and an octave higher, solving the performance challenge and also giving the solo a unique timbre, reminiscent of a harpsichord."
I had guessed that one correctly due to the Baroque sounding. I had already known that bit of trivia from being such an avid watcher of any Beatle related docs, and books.
Chord progression for Hey Jude also sounded like A Day In The Life to me. Really tough those. Love these videos.
For the first time i also thought it was a day in the life, but still it sounds different
I guessed Hey Jude but with very little confidence, and when David said For No One, I thought that sounded at least as believable and usually when that's the case, it means he's right and I'm wrong. But not this time I guess lol
I would have lost the house betting it was For No One. Your day brakes, your mind aches......
To me it sounded similar to Let It Be’s chord progression too though on a different key. Can anyone confirm or disprove that?
@@espvp I think, particularly on piano, the progressions were very similar. On a different listen, I would have recognised Let it Be too.
On song 9, you can still hear the lyric "something in the way, she" in the background, that gave it away
I was about to say the same
You've got good ears. I could only catch it knowing what to look for.
And yet I didn't get it. Sadface.
@@jonahansenI was going to post the exact same. All I hear is the “some” with headphones, and that’s barely.
Funny thing, I did hear the singing on the first listen, but couldn't make out the lyrics or melody. Then, when I realized which song it is, I could "hear" it clearly on the second listen.
10/12. 🍌
when new unfinished london?
Haha, I also said For No One because of the chord progression.
Apart from confusing You Won't See Me with I Want To Tell You (because of the dissonance in the chords), I got everything right. So 10/12.
I got those mixed up, too lol but I still wasn’t sure because the piano’s timbre sounded more like a Rubber Soul track, I just couldn’t place it as You Won’t See Me lol
I made the same mistake for the same reason on You Won't See Me
I also thought I Want To Tell You, because the piano on it's own tends to lean more into the groove of that song.
same mistake as all of you
well done!
You need to do these more often!!😂
He’s been doing quite a bit of them, no?
Yes, 8/12 for me too. The Penny lane one was maybe the most difficult - according to some some sources there may be 4 or 5 piano overdubs on the track (including one by John!)
bruv if you don't get 100% this time I swear 😤
😰
I missed the first one🥲
Rip miura
Narrator: "he did not in fact get 100% this time."
he will not
I had 10/12 right. I missed "You won't see me" and "Hey Jude". These quizzes are really great fun! 😊
Same here exactly
Same story! Those two are tough nuts to crack
Yeah same hahaha clearly the trickiest
Yeah, I never thought Hey Jude would be so hard to guess!
Same heree
These videos have been very fun. Thanks for doing them!
7/12...some of these were pretty tricky...
love this content, you should expand it to other bands and artists!
5:43 IDK, but it's Something
Lol
I don't recognise it but i think your mother should know ...
Yay! Beatles quiz!
I really enjoy it when your sponsors are new unknown (to me) musicians
Really enjoy these. Thanks! 😊
I never get tired of these, thank you for making them! :D
6/12, the first half seemed easier than the second half! Great quiz, thanks
The Hey Jude one tricked me a lot! It's really the same progression as for no one😅 i think a way we could use to differ both is using the fact the "for no one" piano part is more stacatto than Hey Jude's one
I love these quizzes!!!! Keep them coming!!! I LOVE The Beatles.
I like these videos, they keep me humble.
Excellent!
10/12 Very much enjoyed it!
Of all the quizzes this one stumped me the most
I love these
LOVE these, not sure which I like more: doing these alongside you or hearing you say "BEE-TOWCE" as the name of the band
It's amazing hearing how may songs where The Boys *buried* the piano in the mix!
I only got 4 right, but I did better than I thought I would!
11/12. nice run of quizzes. thanks!
David, you did very well. The songs were difficult. I enjoyed Jon Smith as well.
Thank you!
I got a qualified 12/12 -- Once David said #2 was a Moog, I knew it was Here Comes the Sun, but I hadn't got it until he said that.
10/12! First one of these I did well on!
Good one! 9/12 for me. I got "The Word" from the guitar part. Lol. Got "Hey Jude" because it's my fave Beatles song, and about the only song I can play on the piano.
This has been the hardest "guess the Beatles song" challenege for me yet.
Old bloke getting into keyboards and I love your channel - a young guy who likes great music…who’d have thunk it 👍🏻😀 love the quizzes and chord progression videos 😊
I knew one you didn’t, but you knew a couple I didn’t! I love these videos that test my devotion to the Beatles!
Same here :)
12/12
My love for Rubber Soul really helped in this video. I’ve been getting better at these as they come.
I hope we get a second version of each instrument cause these are so fun
I missed a bunch but got Hey Jude! I love these videos 🙏🏼
Wow..............2/12 ...............hard test here.............great fun for a guitar player like me.
I randomly guessed each one and naturally got a goose egg.
1:00
Woah Moog Synthesizer isolated is beautiful
Got all but 2 ("Something" and Hey Jude") "You Won't See Me," good guess on the Diminished chord being linked to George. I knew it wasn't "For No One" on "Hey Jude" when I tried to sing the melody over it, but had no idea what it was going to be. Great quiz!
That's the best I've done on one of these quizzes yet -- 7/12.
Really interesting to hear the keyboard in (for the most part) isolation. Cool 😎
I love these guessing videos, I literally pretend I'm with David trying to guess with him. I would love to see this type of video with Radiohead songs
Please do second parts for every instrument!
I could hear the vocals on Something which is part of what gave it away for me.
Kool vid @ the end
10/12 here, hope theres another video in this series so i can finally get that 💯
I only got 4 of them, but I'm proud of myself for guessing #3 correctly considering what David said about it.
That last song clip you play by Jon Smith's Voyages made me think so much of Jethro Tull! :)
Yes. To me it's all more early 70s than late 60s.
Got six..and have listened to the Beatles
..forever..am 74..
I only got 5, but of the ones I missed, I missed all of the ones you did (and a couple I was WAY off on)
1 - no idea
2 - no idea
3 - IN MY LIFE
4 - COME TOGETHER
5 - DRIVE MY CAR - WRONG
6 - no idea
7 - GOLDEN SLUMBERS
8 - DRIVE MY CAR - RIGHT!
9 - SOMETHING
10 - no idea
11 - LET IT BE - UGH
12 - HELLO GOODBYE
6/12...tough one!
I've always wondered what that In My Life, George Martin solo originally sounded like. Thank you. ❤
There were a few songs I got at the very last second but I did still manage to get all 12, though there were a couple other songs I was expecting to see as well like I Am the Walrus, Let It Be, Money (That's What I Want) and even songs like Real Love or Now & Then but this was still a lot of fun. Always enjoy these quizzes, also it might just be what my ears heard but Jon Smith's Voyages' vocals honestly sound a lot like George Harrison's and I do really like it
Wow, Jon Smith's Voyages! 😮 Jon and his family happen to be very close friends of mine!! Not only is he super talented, he is also a genuine, incredible person. I hope he gains a ton more followers from this exposure.
PS - despite being a HUGE Beatles fan, my score on this was abysmal.
This was fun David! I would have bet the farm on no-11being 'For no one".
Missed 5 of them but proud I knew
“Something “
I think if you said "Carry that Weight" instead of "Golden Slumbers", you can allow yourself a point (I did! 😁)...it's not entirely clear where one ends and the next begins...
I have an idea for this series! You should do one where you guess the beatle song by reversing it first (with a tool like audacity). You could even include a question which uses george's reversed solo in im only sleeping being reversed again 😉
DIdn't he already do this a while back?
11/12!!!
8:29 - I see that Jon plays a left-handed trumpet and sax as well. :)
This was a really fun one! It sounds like isolating the piano track didn't go so well for some of these though :( like "The Word" you could clearly still hear the guitar, which I think helped me get it. And "Penny Lane" and one or two others sounded so processed and garbled that the original timbre of the piano part didn't come through.
Man, this one was hard. I only got five. (1, 3, 4, 5, and 8). And I probably wouldn't have gotten #5 without John's iconic rhythm, which was the giveaway.
That *was* fun! I was 9 for 12: missed the same ones you did, David, except I got "Something." OK, all that's left is to ID Beatles songs based on...cowbell! 😅
I'm not THAT much of a Beatles fan and only mostly know their biggest hits, and thus I was thrilled when I got "Something" and you didn't :)
Fun quiz.
somehow got all of them except You Won't See Me (which I thought was I Want to Tell You, even though i knew it was too slow to be that, I just couldn't think of anything else), Hey Jude was tricky as well because I didn't recognize that progression as being part of the song but the pacing and rhythms sounded like it so I did choose it as my most likely contender and it ended up being right
I got them all but Hey Jude got me scratching my head for a minute
This is amazing, thanks. We all know Ringo on drums, John and George on guitars and Paul on drums, but they, under George Martin's guidance incorporated keyboards all over their catalogue. Lady Madonna, Let it Be, You Never Give Me Your Money, The Long and Winding Road, intros to songs like Ob La Di, While My Guitar Gently Weeps ,Lovely Rita and others. Plus the horns and woodwinds in songs like Got to Get You Into My Life, All You Need is Love, Strawberry Fields Forever, When I'm 64, the strings in Eleanor Rigby, She's Leaving Home and Good Night, and George's sitar and other Eastern instruments in Love You To, Within You and Without You and Norwegian Wood all help to define an original and unmatched sound that will last as long as we listen to music. The Beatles stand alone at the top and there is no one like them.
Love these quizzes. I got 7/12 and also guessed For No One.
8/12 as well, I got the same ones that you did!
i got the exact same score as you!
Feels odd now that I knew a lot of these originally as just pop songs like all the other pop songs (Early GenX here, my stepDad bought a Rubber Soul cassette in the early-mid 70s).
My stepMum actually saw the Beatles with her big sister.
And now they're THE BEATLES.
That was fun! I got 6.
2 curious things... Song 10. I thought it was "I want to tell you" because the keys felt as though they had that syncopation and seemed to be played quite in a quite hard staccato way.
Second; basically "I want to tell you" has completely recycled that chord progression and style from "you wont see me" changing the syncopation slightly
This is going to drive me nuts now. That little slice of Hey Jude with that chord progression sounds so much like a song that John was messing around with after the Beatles - was it part of Real Love? Grrr. It was from one of those home audio tapes he did.
Easier than the drum quiz and the bass quiz.
I didn’t do too badly surprisingly. Not 100% though. Much easier than the other quizzes. I think it is because the keyboard instruments really seem to stand out to me in Beatles songs.
I also got Something ( track n.o 9 ) and was really chuffed with myself. Found it quite hard though.
I got all of them except You Won’t See Me. Quite pleased with this one. 11/12
I think the bass in #4 gives it away.
I only got 2 which is interesting since I'm still not that familiar with the Beatles and I'm not a piano player. I always get Come Together
Oooh I got 10/12 - number 10 was really hard!
Some of these threw me for sure.
I was pretty confident the penultimate song was “For No One”, too.
Song 10 was fiendish- I got it mixed up with a George song in the same key from the Revolver album. DANG!
A day in the life also uses that progression.
11/12, not bad!
Nice!
I heard Somthing and Hey Jude right away, because I've played this song for years in bars and clubs.
all quite easy yes well done
10/12
I missed "You Won't See Me" but got all the others. I was sure it was "I Want to Tell You" from Revolver.
For some reason, I found this much harder than the other ones. I guess the piano tends to fade into the background. I only got Drive My Car and In My Life. (I also got Golden Slumbers, but only because you put the Abbey Road medley in my mind)
I got one. This was the hardest one yet for me. You got eight. Well done you
It would be great if you made a video about the chord progression of "I Want You(She is so Heavy)", and it has had variants like "Time in a Bottle" or "Kozmic Blues", and obviously: "Because"
I was SO close! 11/12. As a guitarist, I'm surprised that this is the one I did the best on
