    There are a number of pretty decent/accurate videos on cost of living in the large metropolitan areas (Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad/Pindi etc). This video is a good example as it provides excellent information. However, serious research is needed on the following:
    1. Expats who lived their working lives abroad but now want to retire in Pakistan.
    2. They have an income of $5000.00_$10,000 USD a month.
    3. They prefer to live in the rural/outlying areas, not in the cities.
    4. A fair number of these expats have the money to set up complete solar systems, rainwater collection systems and to build very energy efficient homes. I noticed that there is very little concept of insulation in Pakistan. Concrete is a terrible insulator . Not having attics is a negative as well.
    5. Security. How does this fare in a rural setting? Any issues?
    6. Food, transportation, domestic help, utilities, etc do not matter as they can afford it. It is the location and obtaining materials to be off the grid that need to be looked at in depth.
    Here, in the US, depending on where you live, you can be completely off the grid.

      Thanks for the appreciation 👍. Yes point number 4 on the first floor (second in US terms) in winters makes you feel like sleeping in an igloo 😁. All questions are valid and I have some initial idea about the answers..I will see if I can make a video to answer these...👍👍

      @@hassanrafiqueNo problem. You had lots of great insights and information. I really appreciate it. I have many Pakistani friends in the US who have expressed the idea of (perhaps) retiring in the old country. I just thought a video with such information could help them although I still believe that they should live in Pakistan (even in a rented place) for 8 months to a year to get a reality-based overall picture. I left Pakistan as a young man of 20 back in the 1980's and although I have visited regularly, things have changed indeed and it is not the place of which I have many happy and carefree memories. Sad but true.

      Walaikumasalam Sister, Based on my last enquiry a 10 marla house will cost around 1 crore 80 lacs in Phase 7 and somewhat similiar in Phase 8 ( you can get some estimates from zameen.com I beleive). Defence Villas is 11 marla 3 Bed semi-Detached, currently costing at 2.2 crores. apartments in these areas are pretty spacious. I think the ones in DHA and Askari are the best ( away from commercial and gated communities too). Currently I do not have any preference either way as to which one is better to live in ( I have only lived in a house thus far...but the attraction of everything on one floor is good plus weather wise ground floor apartment is good for all seasons. I would recommend that if you decide to move...buying land and making your own house is the best thing because of the attention to detail that you can enforce. Plus it will turn out to be cheaper as well. Many Thanks for your support 👍

    Thank you brother. The best video for relocating I think. I must admit though that the cost has come as a bit of a surprise to me... I thought £1k pcm would be more than sufficient. The reality is that you need a decent paying job to make ends meet, even in PK. I hope to work remotely same as you if I can.
    I have a Q- how did you convert your money to PKR? Did you open a Pakistani bank account and transfer a lump sum from UK account? or did you send yourself money via moneygram type service? I suspect that the admin cost of using a UK visa debit daily would probably be too much.

    • @hassanrafique
      @hassanrafique  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the appreciation brother.
      So my estimate is also around 1.1k pcm but this is indeed on the higher side because of circumstantial needs. In another realization one might live in their family home and kids maybe going to a good English medium school and suddenly £500 is reduced...Regards money to get going..I had saved up some amount in PK over the last few years which I used for most if the fixed costs. Once the Umbrella company route got enabled my salary started depositing in PK bank account...all the best to you too with the move when the time comes. Many Thanks 👍

    Just wanted to comment that the school fees is on the expensive side. So if three children go to school than one would pay 22k * 3 = 66 thousand just in fees. We are shifting too and I called IIUI School and they said fees are 11k per child. Which comes to 33k for 3 children. In the end you can select a school as per your cost margin.
    Similarly I would also like to mention that there is now Roshan Apna Ghar ( Meezan Islamic too ) for overseas Pakistanis. So with Roshan Digital Apna Ghar your house rent could become an investment too.

    • @hassanrafique
      @hassanrafique  2 роки тому +1

      @@bush517 thanks a lot for the support. If you live in a gated community or a colony then it is better for the peace of mind. Additionally if you have some relatives or family in the same city it will again help with staying calm. I would say it is ideal if you can drive a car ( for grocery shopping, pick and drop if needed). You can manage without it too but then you would have to arrange Uber, Careem etc which in certain cases may feel like a restriction ( say you want to go out for ice cream with the kids). Having said that I have examples of my own sister who is currently living at the first floor of her inlaws house with three kids and her husband ( my brother in law) is abroad and she hasn't got a car too ( she manages via Careem)... another aspect is the age of the kids...in our case Arham and Ishmal have 1 hour difference in pick and drop timings. We manage it our selves but that means that one of us has to baby sit while the other does the chore..So in short it is possible but depending on certain things it may be comfortable or a little hectic...👍

    MashaAllah you're doing very well. Im watching your move to Pak very closely and your videos have been a great help. Im moving my wife and kids to Pak from UK after 11 years. I will be staying back for now. Can you please tell us if Bahria town is safe enough for a woman to live with her kids? And what you think of Beaconhouse Pothohar? And also about the water supply in Bahria town please?

    • @hassanrafique
      @hassanrafique  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks a lot for supporting. Bahria/DHA in general have their security and are considered statistically very safe. However there have been some robbery incidents in DHA in the past year which has caused security to become heightened...having said that these areas are full of families and people trust the security for taking care of safety. Beaconhouse is generally considered very good...personally though, I do not have much information yet about the particular campus you mentioned...defence villas would be ideal in your situation because it is a gated community with dedicated security (around 300 houses so focused security)75k pcm for 3 bed and 90k pcm for 4 beds. Many Thanks

      @@hassanrafique Thanks brother i appreciate your effots in regards with helping those planning to move back with your videos. Please tell us about water gas and electricity problems (if there is any) in Bahria/DHA. Also what you think of commuting between ISB and Bahria on daily basis?

    • @hassanrafique
      @hassanrafique  3 роки тому +1

      You are welcome brother. Bahria is very good in terms of Elec/Gas supply. They have their own electricity generation hence it is famous for not having any load shedding ( I have experienced the same so far). Gas has been fine too although it is winters when the supply is judged best ( my mother's place for example has very good consistent supply of Gas, while DHA, I have heard that the strength of supply is not as strong in winters - I am talking from heater's POV, not preparing food). DHA is very good too...but occasionally load shedding can happen. You can reach ISB from Bahria in 40 - 50 minutes I believe. Regarding the ease of commute, well that would depend on the time of travelling, traffic and the car that you use ( condition in terms of comfort/AC etc). I have not commuted to ISB from Pindi daily for work since 2006 so cannot say exactly how manageable it is but loads and loads of people do this ( well at least they used to before COVID) daily so it should be manageable I suppose...Hope it helps.. Many Thanks

I have travelled most of its length and breadth of it in the 1990's by road. Land, land, and open expanses of land as far as the eye can see for hundreds of miles. There are lots of places in the US that are even cheaper than Pakistan...yes...there are. You just have to do your research. Sadly, I grew up in the Pakistan of the 1970's and 1980's. • @hassanrafique
      @hassanrafique  3 роки тому +1

      Asalamalaikum, Firstly are you moving because you want to or is it based on circumstances? If the decision to move is coming from you, then think about the reasons that have urged you to make this decision. This will help you get over the first obstacle of "am I doing the right thing?". Secondly, look at your options ( having spent 10 years in the UK, I assume you might have ILR or Citizenship?). If that is the case then you have another advantage ( i.e. worst come to worst and you really start missing the UK, you can always go back). Now lets talk about myself: I am very happy because I knew what to expect in Pakistan and I also know why I came back, so basically as long as you can manage your own expectations and make your way around the frustrations then it should be fine. Every now and then you inadvertently compare UK with PK, but then you tell yourself that this is just the way it is here so let's move own...my social circle is back to where it should have been (something I missed out on for 15 years), so I am satisfied. Let me know if you have any more questions...I understand this can be very unsettling....All the best. Thanks
