I’m going to lay some decking this spring so I’ve checked a few videos out, I’m sure this decking has some issues by now , would have been better with some noggings . The weight will stop this from moving but I’m sure all the sarcasm in the comments are by absolute experts who never do anything wrong , maybe they should add some links to their far superior builds.
Alright if you’re decking a snooker table. The slab see-sawed as the bearer came down on it. No noggins between the joists. And if you want forearms like Popeye, bang home 150mm nails and avoid the advanced technology of a screw.
OK here's the thing the grooved side is for ventilation and the boards should hang off the end so rain water runs off and not into the framework helped by a slight angle but how many extra years does it really buy you? I say if it's your deck and your money build it the way that makes you happy, if your mates don't want to sit on it with you then more beers for me, I thank you!
same here. (meaning i came to get an idea then read the comments) now im scared... plus ALL of you that is saying its wrong didn't say EXACTLY what is wrong.. SOS
Right Here are the mistakes you made You should treat the wood with a bitumen paint It will last even longer Never use nails screw every time Never try to level out with paving slabs Use wet concrete as supports and it will run into any gaps making sure it Never moves and the worst thing is Never use spacers Always lay the boards green As in make sure they are wet and have expanded to their maximum otherwise you will get a too bigger gap once they shrink Never lay dry boards
To allow wood expansion. If the wood gets really wet it expanse, so if you don't leave a gap between the boards to allow they space to expanse to they will push each other and possibly ruin your deck. The gap is also used for drainage.
Another "expert" putting the decking boards on up-side-down. The deep "reeding" goes underneath to allow air into the joint, keeping it dry, and also to stop the board from warping. The smooth, or small reeded side is for walking on. This allows more surface area for your shoes to contact so better grip.
Erm, no. The grooves are for water runoff. Putting them on groove side down wouldn't make any difference to them staying dry. That's not to say you can't do that if you so choose, but the grooves have a purpose.
Afghanistan chief building inspector ever cause the Grenfell Tower disaster? Or the12-storey beachfront building in Miami-Dade County? What an attitude you display towards other people.
Besides all of the obvious safety and structural errors, wouldn't even the most inexperienced novice realize that all of those grooves facing upward would hold water, which would dramatically shorten the life of the deck? What about winter, when it's caked with ice and snow? Salt and deicing compounds would simply dissolve the decking, within just a couple of years.

excellent job, man. I like the fascia siding, although some say to keep an end open for ventilation. Very nice video.
And there you have it! A perfect floating timber platform!!!

Did you notice the slab move at 3.14 when the frame is lowered onto it?, what a true craftsman...

Totally wrong way to lay

My understanding is you're supposed to put an everso slight incline to create a rain runoff ?
Completely new to decking. Started watching this to get some idea whats involved and thought this doesn't look right. Then read the comments...

you have to have a slope for the water to drain off
Right
Here are the mistakes you made
You should treat the wood with a bitumen paint
It will last even longer
Never use nails screw every time
Never try to level out with paving slabs
Use wet concrete as supports and it will run into any gaps making sure it Never moves and the worst thing is Never use spacers
Always lay the boards green
As in make sure they are wet and have expanded to their maximum otherwise you will get a too bigger gap once they shrink
Never lay dry boards
@ 2:17 "Fuck it, that's square enough @2:30 yeah fuck it, that's about right @ 2:58 "Ahhh fuck it, that'll do" @ 3:23 "Fuck it, that'll do"
Wtf is this? I've never laid decking in my life and I can see that's a bodge!
Why did you install the decking upside-down? According to the manufacturers.
I'm no expert but surely this should be anchored with posts into the ground.
Is this a deck or a raft. I hope you don't get strong winds there....
How needs screws anyway? Also the decking is wrong the big grooves need to go down for airflow.
Then place a Wickes shed full of tools on it to hide it 😂😂
The decking I get is grooved both sides, so all you smart arses who say groove down may have to think about that one.
Nails will come apart in no time never just lay your deck on the floor and that size deck use full deck boards this is a bodge
great video thank You!!
Fk me has that chop saw got covid 😂😂😂
why do we need to maintain the gap between the rows slot ?@4:00

How to cover up your neglected garden with cheap ass wood that rots after a few years.
Cowboy builders have since caught and toon this man to court when a customer's decking flew into someone's house killing all inside
Must have been a 180mph wind 🤣😂
cheep work
cheap....😁
cowboy decking
guess the only problem was he took 8 weeks to finish the job, like their kitchen fitters do
Good work.
Mate! Chuck all your tools in the middle and burn it! Then get someone to build you a proper deck😂
wow dude where did you do your building apprentiship??? haha
+Logan holmes lol. He didn't !!!!
Doesn't it need to be attached to something?
Yeah, it will be attached to his next door neighbour's house - vertically, just give it six months.
Well done good job
But how do you attach the deck to the ground?
Boards are upside down as wel, suppose to lay the ridged side on the bottom i read

Gordon Mills here in the uk we lay the planks groove side up.
Yes I know, here in the UK we do it wrong..
Gordon Mills if you say so
It doesnt matter, you can lay it groove side up or down. The channels is for effect and has no actual benefit in regards to keeping it dry or whatever

Go to woodprix if you'd like to build it yourself.

Don't need slabs don't need pea shingle iver bs
Be careful not to fart near the installation after completion as it may blow away
Noggins. ..and it needs to be raised..wacking in six inch nails that could twist the frame...is this a joke.?
Wonder how this garbage is holding up in 2018...
On the stodoys website you can find professional help.
You can learn more about it on Woodprix website I think.
How embarrassing for Wickes...this guy hasn't got a clue. There's so much wrong with the methods used, I don't know where to begin!
It is easy to have negative comments no.. Yust tell us what is wrong here then

I heard very good opinions about the Stodoys plans.
I did the same with woodglut plans :)
But how do you attach the deck to the ground?
attach it to anything near it if its on it's own on concrete use concrete screws or brackets
I think it's called Gravity 😂
