    OHMYGOD HEY!
    After years of being a theatre obsessive, last month I finally took my first ever trip to New York City and Broadway with my stagey boyfriend Aeron James.
    In Part 3 of the vlog series we finally make it to Central Park, see shows including SHUCKED and SOME LIKE IT HOT and of course attend the final preview performance of BAD CINDERELLA.
    Check it out and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss the next installment!

    1. The fountain in Central Park is also where princess Giselle sang the iconic "That's How You Know" in Enchanted
    2. I remember when I went to Bad Cinderella they brought out the ghostlight even before the audience was out, like curtain down, count 30 seconds, curtain up, bring in the ghostlight.
    3. In Phantom you could even see them lowering the chandelier post show as well as the travelator when they bring out the ghostlight

    I always purposefully go into shows knowing as little as possible because it really makes that first experience as special and authentic as possible and I really enjoy that. Though I recognize how that may not always be possible if you are someone people (including me) look to as kind of a first-responder for theatre news.

    Several years ago, I was in the Drama Book Shop with a few friends. I was helping one friend with some research she was doing, while the other two friends browsed. I vaguely noticed a guy come in and start talking to the people working there, but I didn't really pay much attention, because I was looking at the books. When we left, one of my other friends (not the one I was researching with) was like, "OK, so we all saw that was Brian Stokes Mitchell who was talking to the guys at the counter, right?"

    Am I the only one who hates choreographed bows? I think it’s really sad when the cast have to essentially bow in character. The bows should be to appreciate the actors themselves and their performance, not the character.

    • @ThexImperfectionist
      @ThexImperfectionist Рік тому +15

      I'm not sure what the intent is but I always interpret the performance of choreographed bows as looser and less in-character (if they're in character at all) vs the actual show. Ditto if the the cast sing during or after bows, that they're performing as themselves rather than the characters (think Hadestown). But Bad Cinderella seems particularly over-the-top in a bad way, like when the ensemble keep dancing into the middle to back up each principle actor as they dance into their bow and then moving to the side again. Seems more forced.

    • @rorycharlesworthington
      @rorycharlesworthington Рік тому +4

      I think it depends on the show. like a show like Cats, if you drop your character and just bow like a person, imo it detracts from the show (maybe that's just from having been in it, idk). also Six (which I know is, like, a total 180 from my last example) where the cast are encouraged to bring as much of themselves to their portrayals of the Queens as possible, it's almost indistinguishable if they're bowing as themselves or the character, which I personally love.
      (apologies if this is poorly worded, I'm incredibly tired and out of it lol)

    Hey!! Someone from Beetlejuice in Some Like It Hot!! So cool! I had so much fun seeing the show their final Friday evening performance. I went with two people prepared to to not enjoy it who wound up having a BLAST. 🪲🧃 That was my last NYC trip, and I'm glad to see you both seemed to enjoy yours as well!
