- Journey frontman Arnel Pineda admits he has no plans of leaving his band, however, he admits that they will be having a hiatus on 2016 to prepare for their world tour.

I'm a fan of Steve Perry's voice, but I just can't see him coming back for a real tour, which in a way is a shame. That being said, I'm a huge fan of Arnel Pineda. He's truly a class act. He doesn't try to imitate Steve Perry...he just happens to be blessed with that kind of amazing range. My wife and I saw Journey in Hershey, PA 2 years ago and not only did they sound incredible, but the crowd LOVED Arnel. Huge respect...because he respects the history of the band. He's an AMAZING front man. Journey hit the jackpot with this guy and I would go and see them again. Just terrific.

I saw Journey in concert in April 2022 Arnel was amazing and I can't stop watching his videos. Has an amazing voice and a great person.

"How rich are you?" This question was asked at another interview with Arnel. Why does it matter to you or anyone? That is none of your business! Fortunately Arnel graciously responded with a great answer. This is man is so grounded and humble. It's no wonder he gets a lot of haters...he isn't just an exceptional singer, he is a beautiful human being. People hate what they can't become.

I love that he's so respectful toward Steve Perry. It shows what a true gentleman he is. Though it would be wonderful to have Steve back, it's 25 years since Steve has been with the band...age doesn't help vocal cords unfortunately. I'm a HUGE Steve Perry fan and have been since the '70's but I wonder if he'd be able to sound like we'd want him to sound...

Arnel is a good singer, I don't think we can deny that...but when it comes to Journey, Arnel is an excellent Steve Perry impersonator. He gives us the Journey we want to hear. The Journey in our memories. While I'd love nothing more than to see Journey in concert with Steve, I think if we were to be honest, we'd be disappointed. Steve is almost 70 and 'the voice' of the 70's, 80's and 90's is gone. Hey...it happens. It's life. Arnel gives us the Journey we remember.

Sadly, Sp best days performing are behind him. Thankfully he left us a lot of material to suck up. Personally, I like the earlier stuff from Infinity, Evolution, and Departure. After that the sound changed but of course I still listened.

I don't get why there's so much hate here. It wasn't like Arnel forced himself into the band and chose to be a Steve Perry copycat. The band saw his videos on YT and decided to make him part of the band. He wasn't a wannabe before the band contacted him. He sang all kinds of songs. Of course, Steve Perry is Steve Perry. And Arnel credits and mentions him always in interviews. In this interview, he was always respectful towards SP. He never said he's better than him. He's humble. I don't get why some people are attacking him when it was the band who contacted him in the first place. If they think he's got the range for the songs then leave him be. This is the new Journey. If you think Steve Perry is better, there's no need to attack Arnel when he himself never thought he was better than SP.
And btw. This interview was broadcasted in the Philippines so they can speak however they want. Filipinos do mix Tagalog and English sometimes, specially in casual conversations. It's the norm here.

I am 52. Journey dominated the radio stations when I was a kid. I was NEVER a fan until I saw Arnel, and the documentary about how he joined the band. I was impressed that Neil Schon and company ffound this young man on UA-cam. I love Arnel - and I am terrified of how horrible Steve Perry will sound now - 40 years later. Arnel might have won a lottery - but he earned it. I hate Journey (at least the 1970ès version), but I can listen to Arnel all day and night. WHAT A VOICE! What a talent.
+Walter Mirren Arnel, Steve Perry has no right to sing for Journey. Perry left Journey in 1986 (I think...). He sang the hits for a few years, yet you made the music relevant again. Steve Perry went on his own and failed HORRIBLY. If it is your decision to leave - then God Bless. And you have a better soul than me. I give you give all my love and respect.. After all you have been through - you deserve everthing you have. And more.
+Walter Mirren Perry didn't fail horribly he had an album with some major hits and better record sales than anything Journey has done after Perry left. His album Street Talk went 2x Platinum, which is higher than any non-Perry Journey album. He also co-produced it. He had several big hits on that album. I never expected Steve Perry back with Journey, he's retired, he's emotionally reached his limit with the band as he reached burnout, which does happen. But getting some copy cat singer from a nightclub band to act like they can replace Perry? Only to the musically ignorant but into it. They use far more effects on his voice at live concerts, Perry didn't use any at concerts, his voice was dry, with no noticeable effects to cover anything up. I can't say that about Arnel, they put a lot of reverb on his voice.
+Walter Mirren You're wrong about Steve Perry failing HORRIBLY on his own...WRONG! He had a VERY successful solo album in Street Talk! And he left in 1996, not 1986. And yes Steve still has the "right" to sing with Journey, he was the consistent song writer that made Journey what it is today, and for Arnel to be able to have a life! Yes...it is because of Steve Perry that Arnel is now off the streets of Manila!
Mendy Gentry Actually, Arnel was off the streets a while ago, he only on the streets when he was a teenager, he's in his 40's now. But he was learning how to sing like famous singers. I think he started to sing like Karen Carpenter and Barbra Streisand, two female singers. but later started to sing like Steve Perry and other famous rock singers as he was with a cover band playing in nightclubs. But yeah, Steve Perry was THE VOICE of Journey during their peak years and he was a major part of the songwriting, not just the lyrics, but he also wrote many of the melody lines of the vocal part. The others would come up with licks and the background chord progressions and things like that, but Perry was the guy that wrote MANY of the lyrics and the main melody line sung by him. So, he's the real deal. To remake those songs with Journey was disrespectful, bands don't do that when they replace a singer.
And as far as Perry getting back to Journey? I doubt it, I think there is enough bad blood for the childish shit Neal Schon did that Steve's probably not even interested, plus his voice got shot from overusing it as Journey grinds their singers with constant touring, they don't know how to pace themselves so that the lead singer doesn't trash their voice. A lot of rock bands do this, which is why many have to replace their singers or their singer's voices start to sound like shit after a while.
Oneness100 I know that Arnel was off the streets long ago. My point being....that if it wasn't for Steve Perry, Arnel would still be living in poverty in the Philippines, like the rest of the population there.

As the interview shows, Arnel is a fan of Steve Perry and respects him and was not doubt his idol growing up. Heck, he learned to mimic his voice and the Journey catalog note for note.
Steve Perry is Journey and he will not go back. Arnel Pineda is very good so don't blame him for Perry not being in the band and there is nothing fake about Pineda fronting Journey..
Wish Flower Pineda has done nothing wrong, you're just wishing for Perry to return and that is not going to happen and if he did he would nearly 70 years of age, Perry has one of the greatest voice in music and it Schon who has rerecorded Journey Music with Pineda so stop blaming Arnel.
Wish Flower if you don't like to listen to the new Journey then don't buy their albums same as to their concert, do not watch or even go to the upload videos of new Journey that features arnel nor arnel's interview on television until you have moved on.

Yes, Steve Perry had an amazing voice. So did Brad Delp of Boston. And yes, they were the greatest. But I get tired of fans whinning about how other lead vocalists don't measure-up, can't compare, it's not Journey or another band without them, blah, blah, blah!
Someone always writes about how they saw them back in '79 or 80 something in their heyday. You know, some of us couldn't go to those concerts. We were too young, too broke, serving in the military like me, or whatever. I am thankful those bands just didn't fold-up when they lost those great voices. If they would have listened to some of you, they would have.
I got to see Boston, Kansas, Journey and The Doobie Brothers in 2015 and 2017 and those shows were dreams come true. I saw three generations of fans at those shows celebrating the music of my youth. I saw silver-haired guys with their grandchildren on their shoulders rocking. I sat beside two 20 year-olds rocking when they could have been listening to hip-pop, rap-crap B.S.

Let's hope Journey keeps Arnel. I'm a huge Journey fan and have been since the '70's. However, Steve Perry is 66 now. His voice isn't what it used to be. I loved Steve Perry when he was in Journey, back in the day. However, his time has passed. I think Journey needed someone who is a terrific singer who can hang in there for the long haul. Certainly, at Perry's age, he can't do that anymore. I love the new Eclipse record. Wow. I'm really impressed. It's wonderful to have something new from Journey. Arnel is no fake. If you've seen him in concert you'd know that. I'm glad Journey has evolved. It's not 1983. It's 2015, after all. Who wants Journey to stagnate? I sure don't. I've always loved Journey and always will.

Don't worry. Neal Schon has no plans of letting Steve back in after he heard how bad Steve sounds now. Only way Steve will be in Journey again is a farewell tour. That's what Neal Schon said. Arnel will probably be with them until they end.
I saw Journey in concert in Vegas on May 6th 2015 at the "Joint" in the Hard Rock Hotel. The place was packed. Arnel Pineda, Neil Schon and the rest of the band were awesome. People were saying it was the best Journey concert EVER. Even old timers who thought no one could replace Steve Perry, loved it. As far as Neil Schon in concerned, he has become a more accomplished guitar player, over the years. It's was truely amazing to see Journey play again and sounding just as good, if not better than they did when Perry was front man. It was an incredible show.

Arnel is a class act. He is also an admirer of Steve Perry. But if he leaves journey , that would be a giant mistake. The possibility of Steve coming back for a one night reunion show is still there, but the window is closing.
Steve has made it clear in numerous statements over the years that he is not interested in reuniting with Journey. Even recently when Arnel sent out the tweet saying that Steve Should take back his rightful place in Journey. Steve responded quckly...to say "Arnel is Journey's lead singer...THERE IS NO REUNION". He doesn't want it and it should be respected. Arnel can admire Steve Perry all he wants. His ATTEPTS of outright impersonations of his persona and every vocal choice of Perry in the very band SP built are insulting. He should have been himself in that band vocally, and also should have contributed something other than covers of what has already been done. Re-recording Perry's already famous and revered hits. Shameless of them. While Perry has given polite and kind public statements wishing them well...It is no mistake that Arnel has never met Steve Perry. He never will. Steve Perry is the class act.

With Journey finally going into the RnR Hall of Fame this year they will have a chance to do the reunion that fans have wanted for years without disrupting the current lineup. Arnel has already said he fully realizes and accepts that induction does not include him, nor does he think it shoudl. What an epic performance that's gonna be, with Steve Perry and hopefully Greg Rolie also coming back.
Plus, he can talk in two languages at the same time.

If he ever left Journey be will make it as an independent solo artist. As humble as he is noting would be too much or to like...he would truly be in control because he does not phase easily he could take it or leave it ...like water off ducks back. He came from nothing. He is grounded, he has true love behind him, and he has had wealth. What does one really need? For Journey he is the Princess Diana of the band. The people have fallen in love with his spirit. He is not going anywhere unnoticed and he will always be remembered. I am excited to see how his life will play out for us. Through technology we have that honor. On another note his example of humbleness is something we should all thrive for in or lives.

I had a roommate from the Philippines years ago who would speak a little English and mostly Tagalog when she spoke to her family on the phone.
It's the influence of American English language as a mode of teaching in the Philippines. I speak english often and tagalog.

Just to help you understand a bit more of his replies in Filipino....Arnel says he is willing to give way to Steve...Arnel would be happy to see Steve in his rightful place as Journey frontman.
How confusing. Part English, part Tagalog, sometimes the same sentence.
Note that the interview was done by a Philippine TV station in Manila and not in the US so, he has to speak the Filipino Language alternately with English.
