- Roboticists need to take inspiration from somewhere to create their new robots, and many look to nature. The natural world can teach us how to be more efficient and sustainable, and biomimicry is a technological-oriented approach focused on just that.
By studying how evolution overcomes challenges and using it as inspiration for designs and processes, we can solve many human problems. In this video, we bring you robots inspired by animals and insects that behave just like the creatures they are based on. You will be shocked by how realistic they are.
First, there’s the Nybble OpenCat. It’s a laser-cut robotic pet kitty that can stretch, fold its legs, and do pushups just like a real cat. The Robugtix T8X is a 3D-printed spider robot that’s powered by the Bigfoot™ Inverse Kinematics Engine. Watching it move will give you the creeps!
Festo's Bionic Swift is based on birds and has feathers made of ultralight flexible foam. Each robot bird weighs only 42 grams (about 1.5 ounces), and all together, they can fly in flocks using an ultra-wideband setup. There is also the BionicKangaroo from Festo, which is a robot that looks and jumps like a kangaroo using self-charging legs. Watch it hop away.
The EPFL's OroBot is inspired by a 300-million-year-old animal. It was made to recreate a prehistoric lizard’s walk. There is also the AmphiBot from EPFL, which is a robotic water snake that can swim at human speeds. Spot the robot dog can play fetch just like a real dog and is on sale now for the whopping price of $74,500.
Have these animal and insect robots piqued your curiosity yet? Then watch our video and see where robotics meets nature at its best.

Now we have to make an animal that imitates a robot
An owl
Perfect mimicry is not even on the horizon.
i think they mean the robots perfectly imitate the PHYSICS of animal movement. the techniques...like how cheetahs use the tail for balance.

Guys lets spam the internet with the word "ok"
Maybe 10years more
If we arm the robot with weapon 🔫 even More productive
