This very video reenforces the need for a UA-cam channel about how anybody can enjoy Bushcraft, even on a budget. Most of the videos today are all about gear. This Hobo video shows the more common man way and the way it used to be done. Excellent 🔥
An interesting quote. After looking it up though-it has no reference. It doesn't actually make much sense if you really think about it. Also, define toy? Women? Cars? Etc. Actual toys like a lego firetruck? Maybe the quote means hobbies, well that doesn't mame sense either. Game maybe, chess backgammon etc. Well surely they need an opponent? I think this is just one of those quotes that someone may have said that roughly equates to less is more. It is an interesting concept in a Carl Jung type of way tho.
It makes a LOT of sense. I am a South African Pensioner and can't afford much in the way of 'toys' - so I make my own. Next up is a tent made partially to my own design. Last toy I made was a hobo reel. And I want to make a wood gasifying stove. One way of other I have a LOT of fun.
@nigelward5494 if ya have to explain , ya wouldn't understand anyway... toys , meaning geared to the clip yr watching aka gear , not toys toys as in board games ... geeez ..
This video makes me want to go back to nature and i'm probably not the only one . You can be proud to know that your videos make people wants to go to the bush , we don t need a lot of stuff to enjoy the calm and the serenity of the forrest . thanks bro .
50 of 74 years a hobo. You were indeed close to how hobos in the 1930s Great Depression got by. Of course riding the rails figured more into the routine rather than walking. Yet there were those that just walked town to town as well. I stopped traveling at age 66 because my leg got too bad to catch trains. I used a sleeping bag rather than a wool blanket. A blue plastic tarp instead of canvas. Tin can cooking. By this video you could have been me for many nights in my life.
“Once you realize what is needed for life, the bullshit drops away.” Heard that on a survival show and its so true. Water food and shelter is all we truly need, everything else is a distraction or just extra.
Just discovered this channel. What strikes me among many things is body language, manner of movement, tasks & decisions. NOTHING RUSHED!! Not slow either just deliberate, observant, considered, calm, relaxed (because he is calm and relaxed). What a crazy contrast to city living. You won’t need me to tell you he has the better deal...
Very simple, but beautiful camping, and love this style ..... as I'm an old lady, and not strong enough to carry a heavy gear for camping ... for an emergency I've got whole set of the gear for caimping at home, as our location is along the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by the Tone River, which indicates the risk of tsunami in the quake, like the one occurred on the New Year Day around the Noto Peninsula, located along the Japan Sea ... two years ago I began to practice surfing so that I can survive any tsunami, ha ha!😁
Packing the swamp grass in there makes a comfortable bed. But, in some locations and seasons, that grass can be infested with ticks. That would lead to problems. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
You are rekindling something in me that I had forgotten was there. This is how I spent much of my youth, wandering in the wilds of British Columbia and your videos are inspiring me to slow down, get back to basics and nature. Thank you and please keep the content going so I can join along with you.
Your vids are just excellent! I like this one because it shows that a bunch of fancy gear (which I have) can fuzz the picture and distract from what’s important. You are good at saying a lot without saying a thing. Thank you.
As usual, just amazing! Just a note about repurposing those types of cans. They are lined with plastic and so is best to burn them out before using with food.
Man , ....that was so cool . The tarp configuration alone has me puttin' on my shoes n pants and go outside in the back yard and try that configuration . The homemade bushpot , billy cup , and frying pan was so cool . Now i got a new project hobby .
You would make a good hobo. The Littlest Hobo from Canada would be proud if you ever heard of him (and if not, you should google him). I hope there is a voice that keeps calling you and maybe tomorrow we will all settle down. All the best Ryley and always remember to follow your nose! 🇨🇦🦫
I like that you left the place more or less as you found it. A bit of flattened grass, some carbon from the fire; it will look like no one was there in 2 or 3 weeks tops. Great kit in this one, really trimming it down.
Absolutely beautiful. I can feel the pure nature in your videos! Firstly I thought man this guy has the crappiest tools that exist but the real crap is inside those who have all luxury goods. Thank you so much.
I don't have much to say, thanks for the video, it's good to see things like this, low-cost camping without sequins, it made me want to go camping in the first place I can find. And I didn't know about the pot handle system for inserting the stick, good idea
Hello my friend. Greet from Slovakia. I just want to write a few words. Before I discovered your videos, I loved the videos of Bertram, Swedwoods and probably Nagualero the most. All of them were and are a huge inspiration. But when I saw your video I was amazed and very happy, I like your simplicity, practicality, peace and quiet that comes from you and your videos. I also wander through nature, enjoying this huge gift that we have and learning a lot from you. Huge thanks to you for the videos and to the universe for discovering you. I wish you beautiful trips and good luck. Best regards, Tulak
I've watched alot of bushcraft videos....and this is the first time I've seen someone use tins like this as cookware! I love em, man! To me, that's how bushcraft should be! ....my question is, has anyone heard of getting ill by cooking in tins like this? I watched one video where dude cooked a his canned food over the fire, but issued a warning that he didn't recommend doing that. Regardless, I think I'm gonna have to add some tins like these to my pack! Awesome vid...thanks brother!
One remark though, I would never leave half burned logs. I always burn my fire until it's just a small amount of white ash that is easy to extinguish and cover up with earth and leaf litter. Leave no trace...
Great camping trip. I was surprised that you got so close to a mother bear and her cub. I would be scared to get that close. I've only encountered one bear in the wild.
It was really cool to see. I've encountered many bears throughout my time in the wilderness but this was the first time that I was able to get good footage. Usually the bears are gone before I can get my camera rolling.
I was wondering if he had any when he got up. Most of the things I see some of these guys do would lead to me having to check myself constantly for ticks and surely they would be there. I am wondering where these tick free oasis’ exist, or do they just endure it for the sake of art.
Nice relaxing video. Happens to remind me of a similar video from Scotty Gone Walkabout that demonstrates the ol' Aussie Bagman set up. Not quite the same, but with a similar, minimalist approach. Either way, a cool way of going about an outdoors trip.
I needed this today. I wish there was areas like this in my area to do this in. Im limited to sanctioned campgrounds but at least they offer free "primitive" spots.
@@kuzinit2374 being a biker ive done that a few times, not so stealth though. What i want though is deep in the middle of the woods far away from people in general. I'm gonna be getting a klr650 and really wanna do some overlanding with it.
I almost didn't recognize you without your hat on. I'm so used to seeing you with it on than off but you still look good. So your camping solo and doing diy videos. The best you can have are the do it yourself . Food always taste better cooked outdoors over a flaming fire pit. Got you some grass to sleep on. What more could you ask for. It's a winder that your smoke and the smell of your good looking didn't bring a bear around sniffing. Saw on earlier with her cub. . I hope you get a good night's rest without any animals attacking you or any rain coming down.i enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing. P.S.I like you better with your hat off.
The two uprights behind the fire, were driven in 6”-8” deep by pounding with an axe. They stood straight up. Firewood was stacked against them to (1) reflect heat and light into the shelter. But in the morning, they both leaned back about 6”-7”, no longer straight upright. All the stacked fire wood had slipped into the fire and were consumed. And he pulled the stakes up with only a couple of fingers. Some major adjustments had been made off camera. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
No restrictions in my area. I always check before going out. This area had recieved rain the day before I went out. I felt very comfortable having my fire without there being a risk of starting a forest fire.
Oh yeah! A hot cup of coffee and a bowl of full Virginia flake makes for a great end to a day in the bush. Don't ever come to Marion Indiana and try to wash your face in this River. The skin of your face just likely to rot away and fall off. A friend and i went on a canoe trip on the Wabash River. We ran out of water. He just could not abide being thirsty. He dipped his water bottle straight into the water and without using purification tablets or boiling it or anything just started chugging down that dirty river water. And the hell of it is he never got sick!
