Armstrong was realistic on what needed to happen to incite that kind of change in America, though. Everyone can disagree on whether what he wanted was good (I think a shake up of America's power structure and a return to real ideals and values in a time where everyone lives for money is great)
Armstrong's ideology is somewhat right you can't deny that, the real problem is the means he takes to make his vision reality are flawed (you know killing kids and whatnot)

Placebos can enhance a person's performance irl, and in the Metaverse (where cognition becomes reality), it works even better. Which is fitting, since he represents Pride (the sin most prone to placebos) it makes even more sense to him (that and, since he knew about the Metaverse, his placebo might actually be something he trained himself to have in order to stop any invaders).
