    • @LaStarza61
      @LaStarza61 7 місяців тому

      Just wait till your in your 60s! Actually, you won't have to wait long, because the years really start flying by fast between your 40s and your 60s! Compared to eternity, our mortal lives here on this planet are just the blink of an eye! So, get right with your Heavenly Father thru His Son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to pay for the sins of all mankind... past, present and future. All you have to do is have faith and believe that Christ did this and then was resurrected from the dead by God the Father so that we can have the gift of everlasting life in paradise. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation... It is a gift of grace alone, thru faith alone in Christ alone. It's all very simple... and it can all be yours if only you have faith and believe. You may feel that my post is inappropriate here, but I truly believe that there is a reason I found your comment tonight. Read the gospel of John in the Bible. Jesus will speak to you.

    It sounded to me like an aging man with responsibilities wistfully remembering his youth, innocence, and lack of responsibilities in the middle of a dark night while a thunderstorm closed in. In reality, Bob based this on his own experience just after high school. He had a '62 Chevy, though, not a '60. His girlfriend's Real Boyfriend was in the military, and they married when he got back, leaving Bob heartbroken.
    The song was recorded at, among other places, Muscle Shoals Studios in Alabama where, I think, Southern Rock was born. Southern Rock is its own genre and sounds Nothing like country.
    Good reaction video. Thanks!

      @@mikewilliams1559 Might as well throw funk, soul, bluegrass, ragtime, folk, and jazz in there, while we're at it -- Anything with a southern accent to it. I left out latino, western, and country, mainly because latino and western represents the southwestern part of the country, and Modern Popular Country just PERSONALLY irritates me to no end (imagine fingernails scratching a chalkboard). Anyway, I believe music like Seger's morphed over time into what we now call Heartland Rock.

      This is exactly correct. Country was a totally different animal in 1976. By the late 80s this became the sound of mid tempo country songs. I know cause I engineered a million songs in Nashville then that sounded like this and Against the Wind and Mainstreet etc etc... People that grew up on 70s Seger, Petty, Springsteen and southern rock in general mutated it into the country of the late 80s and the 90s. Watered down of course by the Nashville system.

      I just checked the country single chart for 76. C. W. McCall “Convoy” !?!
      Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Charley Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash. Quite a bit different sound.
      But I guess music has always been a bunch of winding roads. Crossing and recrossing. One generation learning from the preceding but changing everything for the next.
      Was there anyone I’d know from the radio, you ran into, who was especially nice or otherwise remarkable?

    I don't mean they don't get their freak on, but the when and where are totally different.
    They will never really know the experience of foggin up the windows in the backrow of a drive in movie. Getting the glance from a certain sweet young thing then skippin class to give it a go on the pine needles in the woods. The thrill of wandering away from the bonfire at a party to risk gettin caught gettin it on in the sand on the beach.

I just thought about it, it seems like the best live albums out there are from the 70's. Bob is probably the smartest rock star of all time. He never let fame get to his head, never had a drig or booze habit, never sold out to the masses, yet could sell out a arena in one city for 5 nights at a time, he never talked shit, always helped out new artist, was kind to his fans, had the same woman throughout all of this and is still with her, left music for a decade or more to go home and raise his kids, did not come back till they graduated high school. One of the greatest story tellers of all time and one hell of a man.

    Back in the 80s when I used to do solo gigs in local bars, I used to do this song. Folks liked it, and it's funny that it's a song about remembering your youth . . . and now it's nice to remember when I used to play this song, back in my own youth. Doubly great!
