'Everything Happens To Me' - Robin Nolan Gypsy Jazz Guitar
This is a solo guitar arrangement I made of the beautiful jazz standard 'Everything Happens To Me' I've always loved this song composed by Hoagy Carmichael & Johnny Mercer and love the classic Chet Baker version where he sings. The comic/tragic lyrics were written by Tom Adair and are a work of genius.

Love the tune. Love the arrangement! Your approach to tunes is exactly why I decided to join your club. Anyone who wants a demystified approach to learning this style of music should definitely check out to Robin's "Gypsy Jazz Transfusion Club". Hi Richard, I totally agree. And also the ideas that Robin gives us are so musical, that it’s a joy to play them. Linda Schift
linda Schift glad you like them Linda 🎸❤️
Robin,
Just thank you, thank you, Thank you.
Welcome Dan! Robin
Wow Robin! You´re using the guitar in such a full and rich way. I love it!
thanks Magnus! Robin
Anthony… Thanks for correcting the writing credits. My name is Rick Adair… my full name is Thomas “Richard” Adair. Tom Adair was my dad. He also wrote, “let’s get away from it all,“ “the night we called it a day,“ “violets for her furs,“ “in the blue of evening,” and many others. He was nominated for an academy award in 1956 for best “title song.“ He was also inducted into the songwriters Hall of Fame about eight years ago. If he was still alive, he’d be 107. I miss him…
hi Rick - wow that's amazing so your dad wrote the lyrics to 'Everything `Happens To Me' ? Absolute genius! Will correct the credit in description - cheers, Robin
Gorgeous piece of music, and amazing playing/execution

applause and thank you.
Welcome Brent! Robin
Holy cow that got me all emotional and stuff. Sweet, sweet playing, man!
That’s the purpose man! Thanks for listening 🎸❤️Robin
Hi Robin - really excelled yourself with this arrangement - everything in there - single note runs blending with sophisticated chordal movement, bit of classical pedaling, harmonics, even a pinch of out of key dissonance - and yet, totally in the Gypsy Jazz idiom - only thing missing is the kitchen sink!! Congratulations on this rendition, somebody is going to have to go a lot of extra miles to better it! Many thanks for your inspiration, very best wishes, and greetings from Southport.
thanks for the kind words pal I appreciate the comment! Robin
Gorgeous version it would be nice to see the fingers where they go like this to learn something beautiful. 😂
Yes true!
Amazing performance and incredible jazz guitar playing
I am really loved your style

Such a killer tune and you shredded it! Not one dislike!
Thanks man yes a killer tune 🙏🎸❤️Robin
Such tasteful virtuosity!
Thanks John really glad you like it! Robin
Beautifully played, recorded and filmed. I love all the open chords and the internal rhythmic motifs, as if the tune is following a person's train of thoughts while looking and not looking out the window.
Yes always looking for open lush chords to compliment the melody. Filming by Isabel! Robin
@@GypsyJazzSecrets Yes, I know her style now! I wonder how close to the guitar she will get next time. I like the way she searches for original angles.
dingoswamphead yes love seeing the upclose perspective!
Tones of heaven, my friend!
Thanks brother beautiful guitar! Robin
Robin, this is just a stupendous version, by far the finest I’ve heard you play-gypsy attack but a broader range than one often hears. Wonderful guitar response, and terrific chord tensions, also out of the ordinary. Well done.
Thanks for the kind words Richard! Robin
Amazing tune and sound of the new guitar! Great!
Yes great tune and great guitar! Robin

@@GypsyJazzSecrets I would add, the fact that you are such a clear, generous and gifted teacher willing to share your vast knowledge, technique, insights, and "secrets" with the rest of us is just the best. You make this seemingly complex stuff so accessible, even to a hillbilly like me. Keep the lessons coming!!!
Really nice playing Robin! Loved it.
Cheers Anthony! Robin
Robin!! Lesson for that piece of art please!!!
Luis S. Good idea Luis! Robin
WOOOOW! SO beautiful!
Thanks Christopher! Robin
I've telegraphed and phoned
I sent an Airmail Special too
Your answer was goodbye
There was even postage due
I fell in love just once
And it had to be with you
Everything happens to me...
The lyrics of this old standard are among the best in balance of humor and sadness, and your arrangement stays true to the song's emotions. In a word, it is the best guitar solo arrangement I've heard of this song. There's a lot to be admired here Robin about your sensitivity and artistry.
Eddy so true the lyrics are tragic yet comical and for me Chet Baker captures that sentiment perfectly. Stay well bud 🎸❤️Robin
@@GypsyJazzSecrets So true about Chet Baker's version. You stay well too little brother. AE
This beautiful ballad, written in 1940, by two young American songwriters Tom Adair who wrote the lyrics, and Matt Dennis the music, has been recorded by a very long list of the greatest musical stars from popular songsters, to heavyweight jazzers, and it has been given a fresh new life in this deeply moving guitar solo from Robin Nolan. Robin has a unique way of addressing his solos , and his respect for the composers and the beauty of a carefully constructed melody is paramount in his approach to playing. He manages to take the harmonic equipoise to it's limits at times, and his solos become instantly recognizable as from Robin Nolan, and by this means they will carry forever his voice on the guitar. Thank you for a magical two minutes of great music Robin, and thank you for this lovely upload.
So eloquently put Tony! Robin 🙏🎸❤️

Graeme Marsh love it Graeme this mantra is catching on! Robin
@@GypsyJazzSecrets Soon we will be able to recognise each other based purely on our hands and (unfortunately in my case) guitar playing alone! :)) A good incentive to practice more, and abandon the facial moisturising routine! LOL!
Graeme Marsh we will get there!
Wonderful playing Robin - the guitar sounds amazing!
Hey Tim thanks mate! Yes the guitar is my new Triple-X Goldfinger 🙏🎸❤️Robin

I’ve liked your style of playing from the very first time I heared you play. You have that Robin Nolan signature sound which is so recognizable. And your rendition of “everything happens to me” is so heartwarming beautifull. Keep treating us with your wonderfull music. Linda Schift (as from MikeandLinda😀)
linda Schift thanks for the kind words Linda and thanks for your great performances on the Gypsy Jazz Club Hangouts! Robin
If I ever play half as well as this, it would be my honor 🎖
Tasty!
Thanks Frank! Robin
Lovely piece, great performance!
Where can we get the tab' for this?
Thanks Doug, I think I will teach this in the Gypsy jazz club soon! Cheers, Robin
😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
Antonius Maximus play this tune together we shall! Robin
Hey Robin, this is great! I've never seen a 'Gypsy jazz chord melody course' that could teach us how to make our own arrangements like this - how about it?
Craig Earle yes good idea Craig. I’ve taught a way to improvise these kind of pieces but will definitely go deeper. I post a new live Masterclass in the club every 14-days so will create one for this topic soon. Stay inspired! Robin
@@GypsyJazzSecrets Do you have a link (or links) to where you've taught this before?
Hello Robin, great solo. Tell me what you think about restroke picking. Regards.
thanks Jsnusz, if the rest stroke technique feels natural and works for you then great go for it. If it’s awkward and you find yourself getting frustrated then forget it. Concentrate on getting good tone and sound and of course the music! Robin
@@GypsyJazzSecrets Thank You.
Rob is there any outside the boxnadvice you can offer re getting a faster repeated down stroke. For a start nobody tell you you need it. So then you gotta break a million habits trying to get it, alltotally antiintuitive, then you can't get it fast enough. Montagne for example .. .. hotDANG!! Have tried all finds of pick grips and positionings but can't seemto get beyond a stroll .. any ideas.. orvids where you address speed of downstroke?
Mate good question. It’s something I’ve developed over the years primarily by going for sound and tone. I know it sounds cliches but don’t worry so much about speed, go for tone. I’m not an orthodox player so use alternate picking in lots of places too 😁Robin
Also cone have a look in the club I can make videos and coach you personally there too.. plus an awesome supportive community www.GypsyJazzClub.com
Dr. Be 🙏🎸❤️
@@GypsyJazzSecrets mmm.. pray, play.. and .. . .lay. well, ok
Great tune and beautifully performed! If I may make a suggestion for the future, your videographer needs to slow down and not be so busy. The movement and constant motion was a distraction. As a video editor myself, I have learned the value of good camera work. Most of the time less is more and slow is alway easier for a person to not notice and therefore not be distracted. I wanted to focus on the music but I couldn't. IMHO
Thanks for the suggestion Michael it makes sense! Robin
What model guitar is that?
This is my new Triple-X Goldfinger made by Polak Gypsy Guitars. A beauty! Robin
Yet it does 😅 😮 😢 😂 😊
To us all!
really beautifull playing but i cannot watch this beacause of the irritating camera work. You cannot see details.I like very much all your other work on YT and this song you play so beautifull despite the ¨art¨ camera work
Thanks man glad you enjoyed the music 🎸❤️Robin
Statt bireli zu imitieren solltest du deinen eigenen style zulegen...
I love Bireli but didn’t think I was imitating him here.. take it as a compliment thanks. 🙏🎸💕Robin
your playing makes me laugh and cry at the same time...
very nice rendition Master ❤
