    I budget 10% of my net pay for wants like self care and entertainment. It gives me a small allowance to be able to enjoy life while budgeting. For paying debt i allocate 20%

    I appreciate this video. Our family always looks for free activities to do on the weekends. Usually there's a festival, a new store, a park or hiking trail, etc that we can explore. We usually save our fun money for date nights.

    While I absolutely support giving, depending on where you are in life, that giving may be of your time, not necessarily money. When our sons were small, and money was tight, we donated (instead of selling) items we no longer had a need for. We also looked at opportunities to volunteer with our sons. When our boys were out of college, more dollars were donated, now retired, we volunteer more of our time. I probably spend 10-15 hours a week volunteering.

      I agree, tithe or giving doesn’t have to be in a money donation. I think giving quality time through volunteering, donating used items, supporting local charities is very beneficial.

    I include a budget item for entertainment. That's my "fun" money. I use it to buy ebooks or go to the movies. I included it when I realised that my spending, prior to monthly budgeting, always had book expenses. I couldn't do budgeting without it.

    It would be cool to see how employees at Ramsey look different than your average workplace of a similar size: cars driven, Starbucks or coffee from home, packed lunches or eating out for lunch etc.

    Hi! I was wondering if you or your dad have a video geared towards young adults leaving home, getting jobs and how and what to budget? Both of my kids (24&25) are planning on moving out in the next few months 😢 and I’m not sure how to financially direct them. We live in Massachusetts where rents are CRAZY expensive. Thanks.

    Can you do more videos of teaching kids about money. And, also, talk about Greenlight debit card for kids. I want my kids to use cash so they can feel the spending more than a debit card but I think it’s also important to teach them how to use a debit card as well

    Yes! I have different categories of "fun", a 10 pound a week for coffee out (usually with one of my daughters) and depending on the month , 100 or 200 pounds for socialising, that includes meals out as a family or with friends. The giving, now that we are on B4/5/6 has also changed, it goes out automatically to church/charity but it's also included in the "fun" category, because it brings a lot of joy.

    Well said, fun money in a budget is a must. I treat myself to a small frozen yogurt at least once a week. I agree with Racheal, fun money should be in a budget, not a high priority but why not treat yourself?
    She didn’t say go crazy but what you can afford.

    Realistically, it depends where you are financially. Put your own oxygen mask on before helping others.

  • @johnsantiago4810
    @johnsantiago4810 11 місяців тому +6

    Giving is awesome, but I disagree with giving when you are in debt and doing baby step 2. You should pause giving until you can financially because you HAVE to take care of your own finances first before you can give generously. It's like putting the oxygen mask in a plane, you have to put that mask first so you are in a position to help your love ones. Same as finances, you have to take care of your own finances first so later you are in a position to give generously.

    We made a debt chain and cut off links when we paid it off. Every 10 chains had an inspirational quote or scripture. If felt good to have something physical to show for paying off debt (I kept thinking of Jacob Marley…) debt free now and still the chain stays as a visual in my mind for staying debt free!

      I was renting a single room in a friends house in the outskirts of a big city for almost four years. Embarrassing to admit that but when I went to buy my own place I paid for half of my house in cash! For me it was the smartest move I’ve ever made. I no longer need housemates.

      Just drip feed a small amount of savings to an account. When you see it multiply to $1000 you will start to build momentum & be energised to keep going, to pay off your debts. It doesn’t happen overnight but you can make the change now for your future. You will thank yourself one day in the future, guaranteed.
