Hatidze lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, making a living cultivating honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. When an unruly family moves in next door, what at first seems like a balm for her solitude becomes a source of tension as they, too, want to practice beekeeping, while disregarding her advice. The most awarded film out of this year's Sundance Film Festival, winning the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, a Special Jury Award for Cinematography, and another Special Jury Award for Originality. Few weeks ago she was on news asking and begging for help for food and on the news was said that she can not ask them for nothing because she did not signed any contract for the movie... like working for free... of course she did not signed probably because she didnt even knew what she can have or trusted on word when they told her without signing . That's what I knew from news . But alot people helped her after the news
Everyone on this planet should watch this movie. It's brilliant, with a great message for the whole world and an excellent cinematography. "Half for me, half for them." It definitely deserves an Oscar(s)!

I'm brazilian and I was hoping The Edge Of Democracy to win but after i watched this masterpiece i can't even say it loud. Honeyland deserves to win in both categories which it is nominated.
Parasite will win Best Foreign Language Film for sure. But Honeyland may win Best Documentary.
The Edge Of Democracy is not a documentary, is a political propaganda film. The movie show just one side of the biggest corruption scandal in the world.
Please, is there any animal killing scene in this documentary/movie? I wouldn't be surprised considering it's a movie about the Turkish people in Macadonia. Used to live in that country (ex Yu) and don't like any of its parts.

The crew filmed this 3 years... plus 1 year editing, and all the events are real... even the death that happens, very touching... the movie is a masterpiece because there wasnt a planned scenario, favourite to win an oscar.
And yet, it did not win. Tragic oversight by the Academy in my opinion.

I just had the pleasure of seeing this yesterday during DOCNYC and I have to say that it is easily one of the most beautiful, moving documentaries I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. If you are able to watch this, please do. Hatidze is a marvelous woman and her story is captured spectacularly by the film-makers.
My family comes from Macedonia and I was just saying there are hardly any movies from there. This is an excellent one!

Only here in this holy/beautiful land/country with nice talented people! could happen such masterpiece!-Can you imagine to shoot such a film for starting budget of 50.000 Dollars and the final one of 170.000 and without having any idea about the authors honorary/payment to the crew?! Even now, post festum, there is a sudden army of officials who will attend the Oscar Ceremony!? -And only the crew: writer-directors, Kotevska-Stefanov, both cinematographers: Ljuma-Daut and producer/editor Atanas Georgiev/Faca, including Atidje are needed for the Oscars!- So at lest one deserved Oscar for HONEYLAND!!!

There is so much MORE going on in this story that captures the highs and lows of human nature. Saw Honeyland at the Toronto Hot Doc Festival. So beautiful, sad, funny and true. You couldn't script it better.

I watch a movie a day or every two days just because I'm fascinated by how people can actualize their vision, bring it into existence, tell their stories, I never know with certainty all the effort and time put into it and will never probably know, this film here I can say with all honesty and admiration is my favorite of 2019. Honeyland will always be especial for me, so unique. Thank you for this.
The best documentary I have seen in my life , and I have seen everything out there. How they managed to capture 8-10 people on film without even the kids really looking at the camera lens shows you the professional skills of the film maker. I will likely watch this film 2-3 times. It is that gorgeous. I truly wish that amazing woman the very best journey in this life and the next.

When i first watched the trailer long time ago i was full of expectations about this film. When finally ( in the midst of the pandemic) got to see the movie have to tell that all my expectations were fully meet.. and beyond. That extraordinary feeling of having witnessed a masterpiece with endearing characters, that feeling of getting to know a little about a country and a land you never even heard of before... Every single detail in this movie is shrouded with the power of handcrafted cinema, just like the honey of this lovely woman.
So proud of my macedonian people who have created this masterpiece. Well done to everyone involved and taking part to respresent one reality of a hard working macedonian family.

nice documentary, humbling, reminds you of what means to be human. It resets you for a moment from a digital brainwaves to analog ones.
And those are natural to us. Only in this state of mind we can experince happyness and all other emotions to the fullest. It doesent bring , lke the digital one, constant apathy, low key stress and anxiety.
