Fishing In The Middle Of Tokyo Japan!

Tokyo Japan is not really known for having any freshwater fishing because it is such a large concrete jungle of buildings, roads and many people. Somehow though, nestled away in the heart of the city is this tiny pond called Benkei Boat House. Benkei offers anglers who want to escape the city a chance at catching bass without going hours away to the closest lake. Small pond with a lot of fishing pressure makes the fishing tough but will make a cool fishing experience nonetheless!

I live about a 40 minute train ride away from this place. There are definitely some lunkers in there but the pressure on that place is so high that catching fish there is ridiculously hard. I've gone there about 5 or so times and only caught one fish. You would probably have better luck fishing in the local rivers for largemouth, smallmouth, or stripers

Japan’s so dope, everything about it. I’ve been invited to do a guest spot a few times and have always regretted not going for work (I’m a tattoo artist). I think I’m going to have to make it happen and take a trip soon. Definitely high on my bucket list to tattoo and fish in Japan.

I live like 10 minutes from this pond but I never fished there because I know it's so tough. Did you go to Shibuya for shopping? There are some good tackle stores there like Sansui (est. 1902), tho, Hook Up Tackle in Arizona might carry more JDM tackles nowadays,,,

I once read that in Japan catch and release of bass wasn’t allowed. I don’t remember the reasoning. I assume that’s incorrect.

There are only few lakes in Japan that allowing people to catch & release large mouth bass after they changed the law. Unless you’re a licensed fishing guide you have to kill it after the catch(which no bass angler follow lol)
