R.A.F. Ammo Boots Found in a Charity shop get repaired with metal work!

- we had these raf ammo boots in for repair, they needed new leather soles and all the metal iron work restoring including hobnails, horseshoes and toe plates. this was a big restoration and all the more interesting as they were found in a charity shop.

Back in the 60's, we lived in Caterham, dad was the village barbour, next door was Hammonds shoe repairs, he would do the same repaire that you showed, we were close to a big army barraks, the storeman would arrive in a truck with dozens of boots for repair, also a couple of miles away was RAF Kenley, this to provided most of pop hammonds work, great to see the skill is still available

As a child there was a cobbler next door to us ,loved to sit and smell the leather, oils and polish. Sure miss those days.
Happy anniversary to your amazing Grandparents. I inherited my Grandad's screwdrivers and other tools. They are exactly the same style as yours and my Grandad was born in 1904, so his tools must date from at the early 1920s I reckon. He left school at 14 and did a 3 year appenticeship and I would guess he bought his tools just before setting up as self-employed. Likely as not, your Grandad's tools were inherited from his parents.
