    Born and raised in Oregon, growing up just an hour or so from Crater Lake, the most notable part of school trips to Crater Lake was the old man of the lake. I remember as a kid thinking there was really an old man chillin out there on the water, and love how it’s always just being making its rounds around the bright blue water. I’d love to go to Crater Lake again soon! ❤

You never heard of this, you've never driven by this, you've never heard people talk about it? And it's only 50 miles from your house? The Old Man is probably Douglas Fir which has resins that preserve it for very long times. I saw a boat with a keel of Douglas Fir and when of it was cut out for a new stepped mast, you could smell the resin. Down here in Mississippi we have old yellow pine ( not many left now ) When I was a kid there were train cars with stumps that went to a plant where they made turpentine.

    I remember from anthropology and according to Jung, that poles (usually wooden, in the ancient past) were considered often symbols, worship of a "centering force" that would be like god. for example look at the maypole festivals of ireland and many indigenous rituals in various tribes in africa which utilize lot of complex movements involving poles. for some reason they are a centering force for consciousness.

      You litterly can't have a house that overlooks Crater lake, there is no residential development even near it. The closest thing is the employee dormitory housing, which still can't even see Crater lake, and you also can't own anything there, you just get a room for the season you work there.
      Stop lying.

    • @DeKitten
      @DeKitten 2 місяці тому +1

      @@BearPlane747 Yeah, something smells funky here. There's no residential areas "overlooking" crater lake unless it's at a distance. It's a national park. The nearest big towns or outlaying bedroom communities are about 60 to 90 miles away, and you'd be picking it out from the rest of the cascade mountain range at that distance. 🤔 Lived in OR for 45 years. Family's been here for more than double that, worked the timber industry jobs. A lot of us rural Oregonians still live by the words of Governor Tom McCall, with his 'Come visit, don't stay' vibe: "I urge them to come and come many, many times to enjoy the beauty of Oregon. But I also ask them, for heaven's sake, don't move here to live." Portlandia and the influx of Cali refuges really trashed this state. Trying to turn into Idaho (no thanks) is going to finish off this once beautiful place.

    This place is a real life SCP file

    • @lordjaraxxus5418
      @lordjaraxxus5418 Рік тому

      I can pitucre the scp entry now:
      SCP-1106 The ol man (not to be confused with scp-106 the old man).
      This Euclid is contained in Crater Lake, Oregan. To most, it is just a log floating upright in a lake. But, it has anomalous that make it only possible to contain in the lake. In the 1980, when a group of scientist were doing a submarine exploration of the lake, they tied up the ol man to not have it be a hazard when resurfacing. This caused anomalous weather, known as SCP-1106-2, to appear and make the expedition impossible from the weather. This drew the attention of the SCP and GOC. After the decision to cut the ol man loose again, the weather returned to normal. This later prompted a legal battle between the GOC and SCP just to keep the scp-1106 in the lake on the grounds of "it's apart of a national park." This is the only reason why SCP-1106 is considered Euclid class, as it can not be removed from the lake without anomalous consequences and it falls under U.S. Federal Jurisdiction. Though there are SCP agents among the Park Rangers to ensure nothing bad happens to SCP-1106.
      Extra note: Dr. Bright is forbidden from going to Crater lake as he would try to turn SCP-1106 into a surf board.

      Why would you be sad for a big squid being found? It just adds up to human knowledge and preparedness among other things, even knowledge on how to help these animals. What's the harm is just observing something vs "leaving it alone", what's so tragic about seeing a big squid for any party involved?? Are we annoyed over seeing things now?
      The world does need its dragons but I just don't see the point of a "mysterious" piece of wood. There's way more important things humans shouldn't unwrap than a big squid and a log lmfao.

      How would humanity benefit from knowing how it floats. It wouldn't unlock any secrets of the universe, it would just make a little fun mystery a lot less charming.

    True that: It's OK not knowing the answers to some questions. Innocense definitely is a part of the human condition. So is wisdom.
    There is a very real essence to the holiness of Crater Lake. I have been there and experienced it. It's very sad to learn your limits, and it's exhilarating to learn of your power. Whatever you are living, it's not over yet.
    You could say Crater Lake remains a battlefield between this world and the next. Inevitably, we/you are either fighting for one or surrendering to the other. You yourself decide & live with your decision. Ask yourself: is there a greater contrast between a molten hot, exploding, intense volcano and a cool, serene, deep, refreshing lake?
    Knowing is believing; believing is knowing. Strangely, it depends on what your definition of the word "is" is. You create your own reality, and you freely manifest your own truth -- just like water is wet, the sky is (always) blue, and sunlight is warm.
    Are you free? Do you know what liberty is? Are you capable of joy & happiness?
    Like the song, "The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind. . . The answer is blowing in the wind." Look. Listen. Feel. See. Touch. Use your intuition. Be still. And know that YOU are NOT God, but I AM.

      The used logic and reason.
      1) everything normal
      2) tie up log that some humans believe to be spiritual/mystical
      3) random unforeseen storm during the wrong season.
      4) logic says "just a storm and coincidence, let it pass
      5) after DAYS of this weird storm, there's only ONE thing we can try to salvage this expedition; regardless of how wacky it sounds
      6) untie Ol Man, weird storm immediately clears
      7) logic suggests the 2 events are connected, thus creating/reinforcing "superstition"
      8) it can NEVER be proven nor disproven, therefore it remains "I feel this, but what I KNOW tells me it can not be" = superstition.

    I can almost guarantee someone smart made a tube of metal and put it in there at the exact point to make it float like that. It would be easy enough to accomplish. Have you guys seen the barge that starts as a boat and fills with water to a certain level and stands up in the ocean. Same concept here. Nobel prize please. Haha

      The sides of Crater Lake are very steep on the account of it being a crater, thus theres no shallow area for the log to get pushed on its side and get trapped
