remember kids the best place to hook a tow chain is your rear spring shackle. told the guy that hooked up my chain to his rig like that I would not pull him out like that because its going to snap the thin steel and the hook is going to fly out of there can kill some one. his response "its fine I saw it done on the net" I go over unhook my chain put it back in the box and told him to call a tow truck I wasn't going to put up with unsafe crap like that then drove off.

The points you mounted the sling to on 'the 40' are not load rated recovery points. They are designed by ARB to allow a high lift jack to be slotted in and used there. The steel is too thin, and I have seen shackles break these points.
A shackle connected to a snatch strap, when these points let go = potential for serious/fatal damage.

@SavardRn attach it to the chassis if u dont have tow hooks. u always want to attach a strap or chain to the strongest point on the vehicle.

I am in the market for rated recovery points. Some Trails up here in Canada will not let you on without them. Everybody and their mother screams to high heaven that the factory tow points are sufficient for recovery and I have even seen tutorial videos of a dynamic recovery and the instructors were using the factory points as well.
That being said, I have seen photos from some of the guys on the forum that have ripped right through the ring of the factory point, not the weld. On my rig I have two tow points up front and one in the rear. And if one of those "debatable" factory tow hooks fails, that could mean you could be really be jammed..lose your vehicle to a roller over ..get yourself killed..or someone else.
So here is my logic on the subject. With a little investment on rated recovery points rather than the $1,200 stereo system...I can increase the possible recovery points on my rig from 3 to 6 with a hitch shackle and 8 points if I count the welded 1 inch shackle receivers on the bumper I am installing (although I probably wouldn't attempt it unless desperate and never for dynamic)
But the thing is, most of the rated points are coming from Australia and Europe. It is hard to find them in North America unless you just go for a hook. It's funny because if you change the topic to a winch, "overkill" is King, bring up adding rated aftermarket recovery points to your rig and everyone thinks you're crazy.

Whatever you do, be damn sure your strap or rope is a RECOVERY strap, not a tow strap. If you don't know the difference (I know most guys do, but still) the tow strap does not stretch, but the recovery strap has a lot of stretch. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you get a running start with a chain or rap/strap with no stretch, it can break something and/or injure someone. And read carefully when you order one--some say "recovery" and guess what? They are not--with zero stretch, so watch out for those loonies that will sell you the wrong strap.
