It's become really funny to see JK Simmons and Allison Janney as Juno's loving, supportive parents after they both won Oscars for playing horribly abusive parental figures in Whiplash and I, Tonya.
@@mrvideotape8911 it's also pretty rad how willing he is to do somewhat unconvential roles in animation too like Omniman and Tenzen and even Cave Johnson, I feel like some actors of his level might find some of those roles sorta beneath them or something they aren't interested in
I also love Jennifer Gardner in this movie. When she tells him “well aren’t you the cool guy” really nails the moment. As sort of annoyingly cookie cutter her character was she was also right and the adult despite being the total opposite of Juno who at first admired the husband, highlighting her youth and inexperience in life.
Totally! When I saw this movie in the theater, at first . . . I thought Jennifer Garner's character was the problem -- too uptight perhaps. You see her dusting the banister and the house was so clean, she didn't get Juno's humor . . . I misjudged her completely. (Besides, isn't that part of being an adult and a good parent -- keeping a clean house?) Then as the movie went on, I realized she wasn't the problem at all, it was her husband. He has a little too much in common with the 16 year old. He needs to grow up.
I don’t think his career ambitions (or lack there of) is the problem, it’s more that he has no backbone. He’s going through the motions of an adoption knowing he’s unhappy and he can’t even make eye contact to say NO. I don’t want this. He drew out the situation he should’ve left before Juno ever came over
My friend Barry composed and performed the title song for JUNO. He didn't write it specifically for the film, but the producers purchased it to use and I think it's perfect.
3:54 OMG that part still makes me lmao! “I know this girl who had a huge crazy freakout because she took too many behavioral meds at once. She took off all her clothes and jumped into the fountain at Ridgedale Mall and she was like, "Blaaaaah! I'm a kraken from the sea!" Su-Chin: I heard that was you… Juno: …We’ll see ya Su-Chin! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Firstly, I’d like to start by making everyone my age feel old. Juno’s baby turned 15 years old this year! This movie is so good and all the actors played their parts well. I love love love Allison Janney! I’m so naive. Even now when I rewatch the movie, Mark and Juno’s relationship seems innocent to me until the moment he says, “I’m leaving Vanessa.” I just thought they had an unconventional friendship. Also, you talk about how immature Juno was, which I see, but she was also pretty mature. She had to make a very hard decision at a very young age. This movie is a great jumping off point to some very relevant political issues.
Yeah you definitely have been very blessed to not have picked up on those red flags. I remember seeing this when it came out and knew exactly what was going on with Juno and Mark. Because I had an older guy showing interest in me, too. And I romanticized the HELL out of it because I saw how affectionate and sweet Mark was to Juno.
Yeah, red M&Ms went away for a long time. It happened when I was a kid. The coloring they used was no longer allowed due to being a cancer agent, I believe. They eventually brought them back years later when a better red dye was developed. I suppose that not eating red M&Ms would be an overcautious reaction to their return.
Great reaction. Cool film. Elliott’s other essential film is “Hard Candy”, though it’s a pretty harrowing thriller. Farther down the list is “Inception”.
HELL YES PLEASE WATCH THIS ONE!!! This was Elliot's first big role, I was 14 when I first watched it, it's amazing and I became an instant fan and had an instant crush lol.
'Inception" I remember being the number 1 the summer it came out, then as time pass people quickly realized it was not as great, as it was watching in theaters. When physical media was still popular, it wouldn't be a movie I would ever own. I think a lot of the films box office popularity was because it was a lot of people's first exposer to Nolan, outside of the Batman films.
@@DrVVVinK I liked “Inception” a lot… much more than the Batman movies (superheroes aren’t my thing). I think Leonardo DiCaprio was the biggest draw, for the general public. I suspect the casual viewing masses generally don’t pay attention to directors. With so many great actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy… I don’t really see it as an Elliot Page film as he was down the list in the elaborate action scenes in the film.
Watching this again as an adult gives such a different perspective. I was in high school when this came out so I didn't understand why Juno couldn't hang out with Mark and a bunch of social relationship stuff. Now I'm like oh dear God that man is gross! Its also a really good example of how there is no clean cut good or bad guy. Vanessa was very controlling while Mark was just not mature enough, both had good points and both were jerks in some ways.
You have been extremely blessed then. Saw the red flags when I first saw it, in theatres. But it's easier to spot when you've gone through something similar.
Mental Floss has a more thorough article on the subject, but the mention about red M&Ms is because they were taken off the market for several years following a scare that they might be dangerous to consumers. The red dye was pulled, the M&M was dropped from the lineup and for about a decade, we had no red ones in the bags. We older viewers might remember more vividly that they were available, then disappeared, then returned. If you were born in the 90s or after, you've just always had them with no interruption. Edit: the writer, Diablo Cody was born in the 70s, so would remember most of her childhood that this was a thing where the red M&Ms were seen as very dangerous, so Juno's parents would want her to avoid stuff that might be dangerous for pregnancy, whether real or imagined.
Always been a big fave for me, there's so much hilarious dialogue, I think it really makes this movie what it is. Plus the story is very wholesome with a great ending. And if you want more Elliot Page in a similar main role in the same era, you should check out Whip It from 2009, it's another fun one if you've never watched it!
I'm so glad you saw this movie, I knew you were going to enjoy it. I was 13 years old the first time I saw this movie by chance and it marked my adolescence, or the beginning of it, forever (I'm 25 now). I remember being a little sad that Juno and Bleeker didn't want to meet the baby and that Juno said she didn't feel like the baby was hers, but after seeing this movie several times, I literally think I've seen it like a thousand times in the last decade, I understand why. As well as having a better perspective on why it was so important to Juno for the baby to have a balanced home for an equally balanced marriage, she was projecting herself onto the baby, but at least she wanted what was best for the baby. That's why Vanessa becomes so important, even if Mark wasn't ready to be a father, she doesn't need him because she was ready to have a baby, I would say she was more than ready. And I'm glad Juno could see that. I was also pretty freaked out by the progressively inappropriate relationship between Juno and Mark, I remember the day after seeing the movie for the first time my friend from school and I were talking about this and we were like what the hell was that? I was glad that he and Vanessa split up and Juno went out with Paul, that cover at the end is infinitely immortal. The good thing about this movie is that it achieves a perfect balance at the end.
This is a cool movie. Elliott's great in it, and I love Allison Janney and JK Simmons as Juno's very supportive parents. You might want to check out another one of Elliott's movies called "Whip It" from 2009. It's a great movie of his too, which is also quite off-beat, so to speak.
Omg can’t believe this is your first time watching Juno, your reaction is hilarious! You’ve been doing lots of my favorites lately (little miss sunshine, but I’m a cheerleader, etc) you’re awesome and I love the shirt 🌈
Hi Sam.... I really appreciate your reactions and commentary for "Juno" a lot . I do not watch "Juno" often but with your reactions and comments here I feel that it really added more enjoyment to the film and I added your video here to my favorites list . I agree with everything you said about this film. On a lighter note* the husband of the "adopting" parents was played by actor Jason Bateman.... he usually plays the "good guy" role in films so I believe this was him branching out away from being stereo typed . He is currently in the Netflix series "OZARK" . I am glad that you enjoyed Juno as much as you did . Thank you and I look forward to watching more movies here .
I loved this movie, pretty much everything about it, but I especially enjoyed Allison Janney as the stepmom. For Page in a very different sort of movie I recommend Hard Candy (2005). Another movie I'm sure you would enjoy, The Wedding Banquet (1993).
This is a great bargain movie. It far exceeds what I thought it was gonna be. Acting was great from Ellen to Olivia, JK and Ms Janney to Jason Bateman.
Those phrases weren't new. At the time when this movie came out, people did in fact talk like that. Not in the abundance that this film made it seem. But fo shizz, fo rizzle, home skillet, etc were in fact used. I would know. I was around 16 when this film came out.
This was filmed in my hometown and the track they use was literally minutes from where I lived up until last October. The chemistry between these 2 is terrific and I think it gets a lot of undeserved flack for its dialogue, and I actually knew a lot of kids in the late 90s and early 2000s who spoke like this. It's also a different take on this issue, in that it's a pro-choice movie where the protagonist actually keeps the baby. It also doesn't shy away from the issue itself. It's also about as Canadian a movie as it gets. Most of the main participants are Canadian. Page, Cera, and the director Jason Reitman (son of Ghostbusters' director Ivan), are all Canadian. Elliot, who earned an Oscar nomination for this, actually played antagonist Mr. Lahey's daughter, Trina, in the brilliant Canadian mockumentary series, Trailer Park Boys before his transition. Terrific actor.
While I love the whole film.... for what every weird reason I can stop laughing after Bleeker says "No, I don't like Katrina. She smells like soup. " - and I have no idea why. Sometimes I have to pause the film so I can sit there and laugh. I really have no idea why. Maybe his performance playing it so straight like its a 'thing' like 'she is a bitch or mean or whatever. I don't know. For years I can't stop laughing when I see this LOL
Yeah, I think she has a very unique writing style... That I haven't really seen anyone able to replicate... It's absolutely hilarious, though. Love it.
There's of course a ton of stuff in this movie that's ironically hilarious, and sometimes uncomfortable, now that we know Elliott Page's true identity, and you have to wonder if he had any input on lines like "I don't know what kind of girl I am." That whole love triangle in X-Men: The Last Stand is really fun now, with a character who was later retconned as gay in the comics torn between two girls played by a bisexual and a transgender man who were both closeted at the time.
@@phantasmthelos1635 not anymore. But lemme guess..... you're the kinda person who'd deny an Enby, like me, the right to they/them pronouns. Get a life, troll. 🙄
This is the film hes most known for. All his movies that Ive seen have been interesting. stand outs for me were Whip It, Super, Hard Candy.. Hard Candy is a difficult watch because of the subject matter. Whip It is a sorta feel good movie where Elliots character joins a roller derby team. Super is one of my favorites though it makes some strange choices. Its similar to Falling Down mixed with KickAss.
There is some fun dialogue that gets flack for being super-quirky, and there's a strange dissonance now that Elliot has come out, but Juno is still cute and even heartwarming at times. For another pre-T Elliot Page performance - Hard Candy, also with Patrick Wilson. Caution ⚠️: it's dark 😱

I don’t think the husband was meant to be creepy. It’s just that Juno shows interest into some of his hobbies that Jen Garner’s character thinks he should outgrow. And there is like you said Juno’s immaturity in not realizing what kind of trouble she might be causing. Anyway, there’s a deleted scene from the movie where Juno runs into the husband sometime after the pregnancy. You should look it up.
Nono, it is. He literally gets excited to see/hear from Juno and physically gets closer to her and crosses some very icky boundaries. He is a creep who is in denial and has a young girl who is showing interest in/flirting with him.
@Orion Raine But what about that moment of realization during that scene towards the end of the movie. The script called for him to finally see her as the young immature teen girl that she was. And he asks her what she really saw in him and what was she really trying to get out of their “friendship”. If he were a real creep, it wouldn’t bother him about her age and he’s at least adult enough to kind of put a stop to things right then and there. Yeah, it’s creepy for him to be seeking companionship with a high schooler and who knows how far it could’ve gone if she weren’t pregnant. But I still think it’s more about Juno’s immaturity not comprehending the effect her actions are having on that couple’s marriage.
Yeah, Juno was definitely immature and kind of a douche in a lot of ways. But I think people forget that not only is she only 16 (which, I had my bitchy moments too at that age) but she's also pregnant. Which just AMPLIFIES hormones and emotions like crazy. So if she was already feeling jealous and unsure, it's gonna come out in super bitchy ways. The important thing is that she did own up to her shit and apologized to Bleek.
Lovely movie and wonderful fun reaction!!! This is why I watch this channel! Now do Natalie Portman in "Where The Heart Is" (2000) for a very different take.
As someone who was adopted at birth, this movie hits home for me in a lot of different ways. I watched it obsessively as a teenager. Everything about it is close to perfection for me. I don't love the line "it ended with a chair." I get why they did it, but I think it's just a really awkwardly placed line injected into the movie. I think the ending itself though, that a single mother can adopt a baby from a teen pregnancy and be all the loving family he needs, is a really heartfelt message.
Yeah I never took it as Mark was trying to get with Juno, she more represents the part of the part of himself that’s relegated to a single room and through his friendship with her he feel she really sees him and that he’s missing out by being with Vanessa and living a cookie cutter existence. I think the writer Diablo Cody has a thing for characters not being mature in the way people assume they should be for their age.
As someone who has been groomed and talked to men twice my age at Juno's age, that is exactly what he's doing. He may not have started off that way, but the more she showed interest and called/showed up to talk to and be with him? The more he fell down the rabbit hole. Otherwise he wouldn't freak out when Vanessa gets home and he's been alone with Juno. He's feeling guilty for a reason.
@@Orion_TheyThem I respectfully disagree I think sometimes our experiences can influence how we interpret someone else’s materiel, which I can Appreciate being a product of sexual abuse Myself. But Mark isn’t a predator, On press tours the writer/Director gave interviews and when it came to this scene they said they were careful because they didn’t want it to be a sexual flirtation but rather a flirtation with each other’s worlds.
I love the vibe of this movie. Everything works together. I thought I was getting into a new genre of music with all the kimya music - but it only really works with the movie and that's okay. 😂👌
I had the erdge to watch this movie at the beginning of the week, for the first time in years. I'm so glad I did because now I have a good refresher on it!
Hard Candy is jaw droppingly good. Whip it was funny and touching. Both MUST SEES for any Elliot Page fan or a fan of movies in general. Great reaction BTW
one more of page's movies i'd recommend is hard candy, a psychological thriller about a 14yo who meets up with an older man she met on the internet and goes back to his house with him. it's HARROWING. (but nobody gets assaulted over the course of the movie, if that's a difficult subject for you. it's more of a cat-and-mouse mystery kind of thing.)
Love this movie, great reaction! I think you'd enjoy Whip It as well and no one reacts to it. Its about roller derby and he just nails it as always. Definitely need to watch more of his films.
Hey Sam, as an older man you meet younger people and are drawn to their energy, exuberance, enthusiasm, and optimistic outlook on the world. THey make want to chuck some of your old friends who accept the world for the shit pit that it is and don't try to affect change. Mark was wrong to take it any further. He should have never gone there with Juno. Feed off the young energy and exuberance just don't play into the sexual tension. Nothing good happens when sex gets in the mix.
The funny thing about people who don't know what they're doing with their lives is that they don't know they don't know, you know? So they make mistakes like "yeah, I think I want to adopt a child with you" and screw things up.
i have such a massive crush on jason bateman in every movie, and i mean every movie, yes , in this he was a bit of creep but omg, i can not NOt crush on jason bateman

That whole love triangle in X-Men: The Last Stand is really fun now, with a character who was later retconned as gay in the comics torn between two girls played by a bisexual and a transgender man who were both closeted at the time.
Thank you for using his chosen name 🙌🌻
- sincerely a trans person.
@@mylife-23 I've reached the point where it's not even a question anymore. Elliott even made it easy for us by keeping the same first two letters.
Ellen.
@@phantasmthelos1635 not anymore. But lemme guess..... you're the kinda person who'd deny an Enby, like me, the right to they/them pronouns. Get a life, troll. 🙄
why are you the ONLY person on youtube who has reacted to this movie? it'll always be one of my favs
Really like your shirt in this reaction, def appropriate. Juno was such a cool, funky movie. :)
Hard Candy is a great performance, but yeah, a little dark.
"I like wholesome, I don't like the word wholesome" relatable
🥰Thanks for reading my mind. I was searching for a reaction to Juno a couple of days ago and there wasn't one.
A small consideration of movies I request is not having alot of reactions. I like the popular movies too.
@@mrvideotape8911 Me too. The one coming in the next week or two I've never seen a single reaction for, despite it being a fantastic movie that's also incredibly timely in the last few years.
Literally a new movie hit the netflix.its definitely worth a watch. like don't be fooled by it being a kid's movie. i won't spoil even the smallest detail because I really would want you to see it blind as I did. It's so exciting wholesome dark and action filled and there's one particular scenes that sent shiver down my spine.and I think you'd feel it to if you saw that scene.
The movie is called The Sea Beast.
I hope you'll consider seeing it or ad it to a cupple future pools for people to vote on
Ohhh I haven't seen it but saw it when scrolling through Netflix the other day!
@@OGBReacts it's amazing. its like how to train you're dragon amazing. Like no joke. So much detail and emotions true this movie. its what we need in kid's movie. to show kid's movie can be EMI awardly good
@@espenbuhaugsveinungsen I actually still need to watch how to train your dragon!
@@OGBReacts well as soon as you watch one of them you have really something to look forward to lol and the more movie's lol. ( Meaning the 2and 3 pluss sea monsters if you Wana see the dragon movie first)
oh wow i forgot i used to listen to that Moldy Peaches album when i was a teen 24/7 n.n
@@Orion_TheyThem she wasn't flirting with him though, at least not intentionally. she saw him as a cool dude and wanted to just hang out with him
Yeah, Juno was definitely immature and kind of a douche in a lot of ways.
Yes!!!
Looove “Where the heart is”, I support this suggestion!
Hey Sam, you are going through some of the best coming of age movies. Awesome.
Jason Bateman and the movie, Extract, is super quirky and fun.
Oh! And Ben Affleck plays his stoner out friend.
Woah, I forgot that Jason Bateman and Jennifer Gardiner were in this.
I had the erdge to watch this movie at the beginning of the week, for the first time in years. I'm so glad I did because now I have a good refresher on it!
Wasn't the dialog in this movie amazing?
HARD CANDY is easily E. Page’s most interesting film.
I still say “Gerrrrtaaa Rrroooouuuse” all the time🤣
9:41 oh god, Sam!! That look! I luv it 😂 You can just see the gears turning
0:35 does that mean you haven't seen Inception?! Let this be my formal request for that movie please lol
Yeah I DEFINITELY need to see that
@@OGBReacts yes! Please do!!
Character Juno is da shit.
For a throwback, I think you would enjoy Heavenly Kid
YES! I dont think there are any reactions to this on UA-cam and its such a great film
So stoked for this one! 🙌
you should see Elliot in Hard Candy. It's a TENSE thriller.
Good Morning, Good Evening n Good Afternoon.... ❣️❣️❣️
I love Juno!!!!!
This movie is adorable and funny af
Su Chin actually succeeded all by herself!
I'd Love to see you React to This is Where I Leave You and Catch and Release Both have a Phenomenal Cast ❤️ Great Reaction btw
Juno reminds me of my daughter!
0:27 you don't know how?
Ah I see. You never had the talk
XDDDDDDD
Oh my god-- YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANNN!! 🤣
you should react to Jennifer’s body it’s written by Diablo Cody the same one that did Juno as well!
I definitely want to!
Thanks for this one, Sam. Juno what I’m sayin’?
I love your shirt!
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😀
If you dig Page then must must watch "Super". Excellent excellent movie. I would love love for you to watch it. Bye bye.😁
Check out Freeheld. Excellent movie, but be prepared to be gutted.
Mark was SOO creepy😭😭
YUUUUUP
when he handed her that weird fetish comic I threw up in my mouth a little
You should see Juno's dialogue in Disaster Movie.
The funny thing about people who don't know what they're doing with their lives is that they don't know they don't know, you know? So they make mistakes like "yeah, I think I want to adopt a child with you" and screw things up.
Fair fair
i always love your reactions!
Thank you so much!!
i have such a massive crush on jason bateman in every movie, and i mean every movie, yes , in this he was a bit of creep but omg, i can not NOt crush on jason bateman
You should check out Hard Candy
Another Elliot Page movie you should check out sometime is Whip It about women's roller derby. Has a great cast.
Oh I love whip it. So much fun and a great family and friend relationship dynamic.
If you want a great Elliot Page movie, I really recommend Hard Candy. It is a thriller that hits super hard.
Ooooo can you do The Blair Witch Project next?
Its on my list!
Love this movie.
pls your reaction to Juno and Mark 12:35 😂😂😂
Sam, have you done _Slums of Beverly Hills?_ yet? Fantastic quirky comedy from same era.
vanessa's husband definitely gave me creep vibes xD
You have to consider that back then cool 16 year olds had sex with guys regardless of age, it may be a classmate or his 24 year old brother... Man, I'm 37 and things really have changed for the better.
Pork swords 😂🤣😭
How does he think she'd be happy the parents for her adoptive child are going to break up--and maybe not adopt the baby?
favourite film
Hobbits are attractive--how else are there so many?
don't just live in burrows like rabbits, they breed like them too
Is "she smelled like soup" a nod to So I Married an Axe Murderer or plagiarizing?
One Of Ellen, Now Elliot Page's Greatest Film Roles Ever Made, Cool Reaction As Always Sam, Take Care Sweetie 🥰
If you want to check the other end of the spectrum for Elliot Page ... recommend the film "HARD CANDY"
