I've always found the mom covering her ears as Dwayne screams so powerful. Because while I'm positive she would love to hear her son’s voice again after 9 months, your child screaming in pain is the LAST thing you'd want to hear as a mother.
Alan Arkin won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his role as the grandfather. The actress playing Olive, Abigail Breslin, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at just 10 years old.
I find this movie so inspiring. Everybody's dream falls apart, so in the end they all coalesce around the sweetest and most innocent to make her dream come true. To me the best part was when Olive comforted her brother after the loss of his dream, and that was all he needed. Best line, of course: "In the trunk of our car."
I used to absolutely hate "Super Freak" until I saw this movie, and now when I hear it I just get a stupid goofy grin on my face thinking of Olive's family dancing on stage with her
The thing about how they have to push the van together and jump in is a metaphor for the family needing to pull together. Yeah I have that same feeling about child pageants and it’s interesting they all got so outraged by Olive’s number but the other girls are plastered with makeup up an revealing clothes! Olive did it with joy and enthusiasm and innocence.. I was so happy Miss California was always cheering her on. Richard yes is the jerk but he ultimately comes through for Olive . The whole family has been through a lot but they made it through together. I am so glad you reacted to this movie .🌸
Little Miss Sunshine is a modern classic. The cast is incredible, the writing is great, and the energy is so powerful. Paul Dano has always had a great screen presence. His breakdown in the van is scary good and a testament to his talent. Seeing Abigail Breslin grow up from goofy little girl to a beautiful young woman on screen has been a journey. Be sure not to miss her in the campy TV series Scream Queens or the 2013 thriller The Call, with Halle Berry.
I liked that Beauty Queen Olive watched on TV and talked to when she got to the Pageant. She acted like she actually wanted to talk to the contestants, admitted that she ate ice cream (or at least frozen yoghurt) and seemed to actually like Olive's dance, her expression seemed to say 'It's catchy and it's cute'/
Beth Grant (the lady who plays the pageant woman and the teacher in Donnie Darko) definitely excels at these kinds of roles, but don't get the wrong impression. The woman has range. One of the best character actresses out there!
Great movie. Great reaction. One thing I love about this movie is how it shows child beauty pageants for what they really are. The moves that Olive learned from Grandpa clearly came from a strip club. Most of the regular pageant people are shocked by her performance. But what Olive does is just a more honest and direct form of what all the kids do in these pageants. Paul Dano, who played Dwayne, is probably best-known for his dual role in There Will Be Blood. He was also really good in Love & Mercy. Toni Collette (Sheryl) is a fine character actress who has been in a lot of really good movies, including About a Boy, The Sixth Sense, The Hours, Muriel's Wedding, Changing Lanes, Hitchcock, and Knives Out.
Exactly, it was just a hilarious "recreation" but not an actual recreation of what her grandpa taught her. It was supposed to be funny and I guess even innocent, and it was. Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Thanks for watching.
What I also love is that it's clearly a child doing these moves, it's a child's imagination. All the others are just some sort of adult-gaze projected onto children
Alan Arkin's first big hit was Wait Until Dark in 1967, playing a villain so nasty that many more established stars turned the part down over worry that the image would haunt the rest of their career. But that didn't happen to him, and he's played all kinds of different roles in a career that's going strong to this day. This film got him his only Oscar to date, though there's definitely a chance for another one.
YES haven't see this movie in a long time! Its a funny road trip movie about a dysfunctional family on their way to a talent show competition, but not everything goes according to plan. Nominated for 4 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Supporting Actor, Alan Arkin Best Original Screenplay, Michael Arndt.
Love this cast they're all doing exceptionally well(Dano is becoming a phenom in hollywood) and especially loved Toni she is a chameleon as an actress and could do no wrong(especially in Hereditary)
Am I the only one who thought Edwin was pranking them? Even after the bereavement consultant showed, I was going " Nah this has to be a joke, right?" Beth Grant, Ms. Sparkle Motion, is also good in Speed and one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations, The Mist
With regards to colorblindness, I'm quite colorblind and I didn't find out until I was like 17. So it's definitely realistic for Dwayne to have found out at that age. Also: Glad to see people watching this movie. I saw it in theaters when I was 13 and it's still one of my all-time favorites.
That form thing hits so close to home. When my dad passed away from cancer, they were handing my mom all these forms and overwhelming her. I wanted to scream “Hey! My dad just died! Will you shut up?!”
I watched this with my grandmother once we both liked it and laughed so hard when Olive performed at the beauty pageant. A mermory I’ll never forget. I miss watching movies with her RIP to my grandma ❤️
That indeed was the "I question your commitment to Sparkle Motion" lady. She was also Dwight's date when they went to Jan and Michael's dinner party on The Office.
Another movie with family friend Beth Grant playing the another memorable character, the pageant official. It’s almost a callback to her Kitty Farmer Sparkle Motion lady. She’s just such an amazing character actress. She’s done other types of characters than these lol, her IMDb is extremely long and varied. Give it a quick look one day, it might surprise ya. Great video! You’re on a roll lately with some great movies!
This was made back when Albuquerque was just beginning to build major movie studios, me and my friends were big on watching any movie made in New Mexico. This didnt have a big mainstream theatre release but here in Abq it was only showing in a small theatre and we all watched it, a sold out theatre. We all left feeling smiling and feeling better.
This is one of those movies for me that no matter if I have seen it over 20 times if I see this is on TV I have to drop everything and watch it. Even with commercials every 10 minutes and even though I have it on DVD in the next room. I love it. lol
This film is in my top 5 favorite films. It's not the most complex story, it's not the most all-star ensemble, it's not the most original message, but it does make me feel a type of way that I can't replicate with another film. It's quaint, simple, and wholly deserving of every screenplay award it won in my opinion.
this is one of my favorite comedies ever. one of my favorite movies ever, probably. great cast, great writing, great cinematography, made on a shoestring budget, just all around a gem that i'm so excited people are discovering again.
Such a good movie. This is the movies I bring up to friends and family when it comes to "trying something different" on a whim. I walked into this movie one day randomly, it had "the guy from the office" in it 🤷♂️ I had also just eaten the strongest cannabis brownie the dispensary sold! Lol. I grew up with that VW bus/van and we called her "hunny bunny". The horn thing and the having to push the van to start it was 100% true! Such a weird, dark, sweet, honest movie.
The sparkle motion mom is actress Beth Grant, who has done some amazing roles and is almost always typecast as a total bitch, despite the fact she’s purportedly one of the nicest people working in Hollywood. I adore her, it’s always fun when she shows up in something
If you're next of kin, it's totally legal to walk out of a hospital with the deceased slung over your shoulder. They'll tell you you can't, but they can't stop you.
Ya know what's another great (and criminally underrated) movie featuring Paul Dano? Ruby Sparks! I can't believe more people don't talk about it. It's great. And while I'm not a huge fan of Zoe Kazan, I do believe she should have gotten at least an Oscar nomination for writing the script. Just sayin'.
It's funny that I remember three 'Sunshine' movies coming out around the same time - this one which I love (beeee-eeeeee-eeeeep), but also the Sci-fi 'Sunshine' and the dark comedy, 'Sunshine Cleaning Company' both also worth a watch.
The first time I watched this film I had no idea what to expect. I was so pleased that I did though as the characters were so well crafted, it was a rollercoaster of emotions mixed with some dark humour. To be honest if I had read that the story culminated in a little girl at a beauty pageant, I wouldn't have watched it. I hope that you have a nice weekend!
The little girl, Olive, is played by Abigail Breslin, who went on to play the prescient daughter in M Night Shyamalan's "Signs" and Ender's sympathetic sister in "Ender's Game". Breslin won the BFCA Critics Choice Best Young Performer Award for this role. The wife/mother Sheryll is played by the incredible Australian actor Toni Collette, who was the mother in Shyamalan's "Sixth Sense", the mother in "About A Boy" (you should react to "About A Boy"), a title character in "Connie and Carla" (also recommend; updated flipped version of "Some Like It Hot"), and first came to prominence in the Australian indie film "Muriel's Wedding". The husband/dad is played by Greg Kinnear, who also played brother to Harrison Ford in the remake of "Sabrina", the gay neighbor of Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets", among many other films. The grandfather is played by the legendary Alan Arkin, first noticed in "Wait Until Dark" (with Audrey Hepburn; recommended thriller!) and the dad in "Edward Scissorhands". Arkin was best known for his penchant for indie & off-beat film projects. Arkin won the Supporting Actor Oscar, BAFTA, and Independent Spirit awards for this role. This film was one of FIVE he was in that were released in 2006. The brother/uncle Frank is the inimitable Steve Carell, who needs no introduction or resume spotlight. And you already know Paul Dano. He was in "Cowboys and Aliens", "Looper", and "12 Years A Slave". He only started working film in 1996, but by 2002 he was working THREE projects a year up to the present; already a huge body of work. Dano also won the BFCA Critics Choice Best Young Performer Award for this role (he was 16 when this film was released). By the way, did you recognize Bryan Cranston playing Stan Grossman? "Breaking Bad" and "Malcolm in The Middle" Bryan Cranston? So this film has a powerhouse cast and was the directorial debut of the husband/wife team Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
I had a teacher that tried to go into the coast guard and found out that he was colorblind. He was a history/psychology teacher and had a lesson about colorblindness where we went through several tests. I like to think that he did this so others did not go through a similar situation.

As already mentioned, the movie Sideways is similar in its humor and lows but all adult cast. Cast members with problems and extreme problems all handled humorously. Highly recommend watching Sideways. Always loved Little Miss Sunshine. The grandfather died too early in the movie. He was very entertaining.
This is one of my favorite movies...the fuck a lot of women part is always a hoot...the hospital lady - Sir! Sir! You are not the only one who had a person die here today ...LOL...the scenes with frank and Dwayne -- *chef's kiss* ...the I hate you fucking people is another I still quote when the need arises 🤣🤣
The first time I watched this movie I had no idea what it was about. I wasn’t very interested but I heard it was great. I loved it so much that the next day I went out and bought it!
This is a great movie! Definitely a lot of twists you don't expect! I've seen at least one or two others mention another "sunshine" movie: Sunshine Cleaners. Definitely worth the watch!
I was as just watching this movie last night. I love your reaction. Dwayne’s breakdown realizing he is colorblind hits home. I had an ex who was trying to join the military Bc his dad served and he just wanted to honor his name Bc he passed when he was a boy. Another couple of great movies Paul Dano is in are The Girl Next Door and There will be blood-he plays twins.
Okay, I’ll be real; I wasn’t a fan of The Office and I never found Steve Carell particularly funny. HOWEVER, after Little Miss Sunshine, I did a complete 180 and he’s far and away my favorite part of this film and (at the time) was the character I identified with the most when this film came out.
one of my childhood movie i love that movie the music is amazing the performance of the actors too just a amazing movie that make you feel good at the end
Hilarious 😁😆!!! Little Miss Sunshine is a great mix of laughter and tears....Grandpa wasn't feeling that chicken lollol...One of my many favorite movies...great reaction as always
I love that Olive's dance is hands down the most explicit thing at that pageant- and yet it's the most innocent.
This was such a wholesome movie and that dance at the end LEGENDARY
I've always found the mom covering her ears as Dwayne screams so powerful. Because while I'm positive she would love to hear her son’s voice again after 9 months, your child screaming in pain is the LAST thing you'd want to hear as a mother.
Alan Arkin won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his role as the grandfather. The actress playing Olive, Abigail Breslin, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at just 10 years old.
Everyone should have won an award's for their performances in the movie
Rip
I come from a dysfunctional brood we put the function in dysfunction. At least this family supported each other in a hilarious manor.😹
I find this movie so inspiring. Everybody's dream falls apart, so in the end they all coalesce around the sweetest and most innocent to make her dream come true.
To me the best part was when Olive comforted her brother after the loss of his dream, and that was all he needed.

I am so glad you reacted to this movie .🌸
The scene where Dwayne realizes that he is color blind breaks me every time. 😢

I love Abigail Breslin’s performance in Law and Order SVU. It was so good!
Don’t forget Zombieland *abigail Breslin*
The Call was good, kept me on edge.
When talking about characters in this film, you have to add in the VW microbus itself. It is as much of a comedic character as any of the humans.
21:55 And we know he would've been the first one up there to join her dancing
Omg I love this movie and no one ever reacts to it! It’s a dark comedy which is a genre that I love. Thank you!
Saw this at an indie theater in 2006. One of the few times the audience applauded at the end. Really like your channel.
Beth Grant (the lady who plays the pageant woman and the teacher in Donnie Darko) definitely excels at these kinds of roles, but don't get the wrong impression. The woman has range. One of the best character actresses out there!

Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Thanks for watching.
And of course, despite the dancing, Olive is dressed a lot more modestly than the others.
What I also love is that it's clearly a child doing these moves, it's a child's imagination. All the others are just some sort of adult-gaze projected onto children
I've seen this easily a dozen times and each time Dwayne's breakdown makes me cry.
Sideways and About Schmidt are similar dark comedy movies that came out around the same time and you should definitely watch them both.
Sideways is excellent.
Don’t Forget *Election* The same Director of sideways and about Schmidt.
I loved Sideways too
i love little miss sunshine. it never fails to make me cry.

This film got him his only Oscar to date, though there's definitely a chance for another one.
Alan Arkin is always incredible. The original The In-Laws is one of his best, and I love his little supporting role in So I Married An Axe Murderer.
Olive is the Little Miss Sunshine in all these sad people's lives.
YES haven't see this movie in a long time! Its a funny road trip movie about a dysfunctional family on their way to a talent show competition, but not everything goes according to plan.
Nominated for 4 Oscars including Best Picture but won for
Best Supporting Actor, Alan Arkin

Such a fun little movie with a great cast, thanks for watching more than what's popular on UA-cam!
Of course! I always like to do a mix of both!
IKR? I'm not even sure schools test for colorblindness
When this movie was in theatres, I wonder how many people just realized that they were ALSO colorblind!
All star cast.
I'm watching again
🤪

Great reaction! I didn’t realize the actors who play Walter White and Hank in Breaking Bad are both in this.
one of my favourite movies!
Top 5 for me!
Awesome! Don't see much reactions to this gem. Thank you for making this video! Can't wait to watch
This film is in my top 5 favorite films.
It's not the most complex story, it's not the most all-star ensemble, it's not the most original message, but it does make me feel a type of way that I can't replicate with another film. It's quaint, simple, and wholly deserving of every screenplay award it won in my opinion.

I've seen quite a few movies. I have rarely ever felt the anger I felt when Richard tells Olive she'll get fat if she eats ice cream.
This movie called have been called "A Study of the American Dysfunctional Family" because that's what it is.
Such a good movie. This is the movies I bring up to friends and family when it comes to "trying something different" on a whim.
I walked into this movie one day randomly, it had "the guy from the office" in it 🤷♂️
I had also just eaten the strongest cannabis brownie the dispensary sold!
Great reaction! This is my go-to movie when I'm feeling sad so I'm glad people are still finding out about it
Yes! Paul Dano is the riddler! He is awesome :)
this movie is such a ride through human nature. Great reaction as usual, stay awesome!
OMG, I haven't seen this film in sixteen years.
I do adore this gem of a film! It's all over the place but in the end feels so heartwarming. The ending feels so earned too.
This cast is just phenomenal
Alan Arkin won a well deserved and overdue Oscar for this film for Best Supporting Actor.
Anyone Else think Alan Arkin could play a dead-on Bernie Sanders?
@@HobGungan I could see that. They have the same vocal range.
It's great. Yes *OGB* The crazy pageant lady is from *Donnie Darko* “Sparkle Motion”
Such a good movie! I love Olive in this movie, esp when she asks the contestant about liking ice cream. ❤️
It's funny that I remember three 'Sunshine' movies coming out around the same time - this one which I love (beeee-eeeeee-eeeeep), but also the Sci-fi 'Sunshine' and the dark comedy, 'Sunshine Cleaning Company' both also worth a watch.
God I love love this movie. My grandfather also found out he was color blind when he signed up to fly for WWII.
I didn’t realize both Walt and Hank from Breaking Bad were in this. 😃
And two years before that show started.
Thanks for reacting to this overlooked gem.
Paul Dano so under-rated
Beth Grant (the outraged lady judge) was great in a gay oriented film "Sordid Lives" and I highly suggest watching it.
However, it was written in such a clever way and lampooned the contest so it gave me the biggest laugh at the end.
I enjoyed your reaction of the film and so I've just subscribed. I hope that you have a nice weekend!
Thanks so much!!
one of my favorite reactors reacting to one of my favorite movies?!? yes please!!
So this film has a powerhouse cast and was the directorial debut of the husband/wife team Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
paul dano actually turned 21 while filming this movie. but still very impressive for his age.
I had a teacher that tried to go into the coast guard and found out that he was colorblind. He was a history/psychology teacher and had a lesson about colorblindness where we went through several tests. I like to think that he did this so others did not go through a similar situation.
I view this movie as the "emotional" version of National Lampoon's Vacation
this is one of my favorite movies! little Olive's dance to Superfreak has always been a highlight for me.
I haven't seen this in a while and totally forgot that Bryan Cranston AND Dean Norris were in this haha a couple years before Breaking Bad came out but what a coincidence! ❤️
Yes, that IS the Sparkle Motion Karen from "Donnie Darko"!
She's the perfect movie Karen!
If you haven't seen it, you would love Happy Texas. Totally different but very much the same vibe.
I love this movie so much. One of my all time favorites.
I needed some dark comedy today, thank you. Great reaction!
Ah, I'm so glad you chose this film. One of my favourites, soulful, serious, heartwarming. Many Thanks again!!! 🙂👍👍👍
This movie is quirky, and heartfelt, and altogeger lovely. A beautiful dark comedy.
Paul Dano is brilliant in this as usual.
Thanks for this.. I never got to see this movie.. I really enjoyed watching it with you!
Oh be sure to see the whole thing! It’s absolutely brilliant!!! 💛xo
The first time I watched this movie I had no idea what it was about. I wasn’t very interested but I heard it was great. I loved it so much that the next day I went out and bought it!
The movie touches on deep things that you don't expect, and I like that.
This was a wild and crazy, funny and sweet movie.
Hi O.G. Bojangles, " Call the exorcist. ", was a perfect comment. I loved the bored nearly to tears " Pageant Dad
''s reaction.
Excellent choice this movie was a riot 🤣 might wanna watch it again myself too
Grandpa was a G.
Another couple of great movies Paul Dano is in are The Girl Next Door and There will be blood-he plays twins.
This is possibly the greatest film ever.
1972 Volkswagen bay window bus original used in this movie best choice I say especially in my car clubs young and old alike always smile at these
i'm so happy people are slowly reacting to this film,
Okay, I’ll be real; I wasn’t a fan of The Office and I never found Steve Carell particularly funny. HOWEVER, after Little Miss Sunshine, I did a complete 180 and he’s far and away my favorite part of this film and (at the time) was the character I identified with the most when this film came out.
Enjoyed your reaction to this wonderful film! One of the best ensemble casts ever!
one of my childhood movie i love that movie the music is amazing the performance of the actors too just a amazing movie that make you feel good at the end
Great reaction. R.I.P Alan Arkin
Alan Arkin is hilarious in this.
Such a great movie...so good and love Steve Carell
So much fun! Incredibly sad of course, but incredibly beautiful too.
I think there was an alternate ending where the Hoovers stole the pageant trophy on their way out.
What a great reaction! Again thank you for making this video for us 😊 this movie really takes you on a journey and has such a great cast
This is one of my favourite flicks, another one most haven't seen, such interesting and flawed characters.
