You are very welcome, JaDel! There is definitely a learning curve with all new tools, but thrilled you gave these a try 😊. I remember your determination when trying to get used to using the fine liner brush (which you have mastered beautifully). At first I didn’t know what to think about the rough feel of the side with “The Happy Dotting Company” on it, but eventually I found I am most comfortable with my thumb resting on that side cuz it gives me a “grip” that makes me feel I have more control with the tool. I tend to hold smooth tools tighter which is hard on my lower thumb area. Now it feels so natural that I realize I automatically turn the tool until my thumb is in its place😊. With my tools before these, I had my favorite go to sizes, so it felt a little frustrating, at first, but it really didn’t take long to figure out my new “go to” tools. I definitely still use the 3 smallest ball end tools that I’ve had from the very beginning of dotting cuz they will always be my perfect walking dot tools for the small dots. For the larger walking dots I use HDC cuz I love the consistency in size without having to “load” the tool with paint.
Enough about tools…..your design🌹💛…..BEAUTIFUL!! I love how you took a simple design and created a design within it❤❤. Your talent and creativity never ceases to amaze me❤️❤️❤️. Also, I never knew about Liquitex Iridescent……sorry/not sorry that you had to show me that🤣🤣. Almost two years ago a dear person gave me an Amazon gift card. I held onto it for quite a long time because I always feel like I need to be practical when getting a gift for myself, but a strong part of me REALLY wanted the Arteza paints that had been sitting in my cart for a very long time. Finally, they went on sale which made it ok to give into myself lol. It took me another year before I was brave enough to try them. I think the fact that they have to be mixed with a medium was what held me back so long. I tried 5 colors in the pearl set and they are FANTASTIC!! I can’t wait til you try them because that’s when I’ll have to get more paint pods to mix the other new colors in. lol.
Michigan is getting your cold temps too, so I feel ur pain. Have u ever tried putting the plastic on your windows in your paint room? My sister had windows that let in a lot of cold and those were a huge help.
Loved your video….as always! Sorry I wrote a book. lol. Take care and stay warm my friend❤❤

I found that my thumb had to be on the tool size side and I tried to use it as a grip. For whatever reason I find myself gripping these tools for dear life and my hand cramps so bad. Literally no clue why I do that with these and not the others? I’m a weirdo but I tend to baby my hands so it’s nearly a deal breaker. I already have some sort of arthritis in my hands and at my age I fear what the years to come will bring so I try really hard to baby them a little. However, I think with time and practice I can learn to hold these tools like I’m not trying to crush them 😂😂😂 I’ll make ya proud.
This weather 😡 I’m stressing so bad. This house is cold!!! My central is only pretending to work so I’ve got heaters everywhere. It’s not working. I don’t know how you do it. I’m frozen. I need new heating along with everything else that waits for me to strike it rich 😂😂😂 someday..
I’m keeping those Arteza paints on hold. It appears there’s still so much I can do with my current stash. I made a rock Friday night with these tools and replaced the magenta for red and it wound up making some really neat looking copper. I’m itching to try all the colors.
Oh 2 years ago I actually put blankets up over the windows in there… it did nothing but trap moisture. Now I’d have to move the whole of my art desk to do anything. It sits on a wall of windows. It’s beautiful but very inefficient. Someday I’d like to build a room on which will rid half the windows or more. It’s the north wall so it’s crazy. I’ll be so glad for spring. I know how to be hot so well 🤣
Take care Darlene… and Thank you again ♥️

@@JaDeLRocks you’re not the weirdo, I’m a lefty and do everything backwards, so I’m sure I’m the reason we hold these the opposite way😅. I have bad arthritis in my lower thumb, so I definitely relate to extra care of the hands. These tools do seem to get a lot of positive reviews from people with arthritis. I haven’t been painting as much lately and I feel like it’s bothering my thumb more, but I don’t paint near as much as u do, either. Hopefully your tight grip will relax as you become more comfortable with them, or maybe they just won’t be your tool of choice….time will tell.
Oh JaDel I so wish your whole house could be wrapped in a warm quilt! I survive with layers of clothes and sometimes hot flashes help, but you’re too young for those 🤣🤣. I hope you’re taking some paints in the other room with u to work on😊
Ohhhhhh, I bet your rock is beautiful!! I haven’t painted on a rock in a very long time and I have a ton of rocks just waiting. Maybe they’re what I need to get back in the groove😊
Wishing you warmth and happy dotting!

    • @JaDeLRocks
      @JaDeLRocks  Рік тому

@@darlenemikkola5239 I’m also seeing all the positive reviews from people with arthritis. It’s just me… I grip too tight and it’s just odd. Maybe it’s a lesson I need to learn. I just posted the rock on the community page. I haven’t added resin but you get the idea. The color is so weird that I love it. I can’t wait to try more. The tiniest dots on it are the .5 tool. I was too scared to use it to drag paint around for fear I’d sand it down so I’ll keep using my metal stylus too. I need a really good fine dot. HDC has one that looks perfect but I’m worried about the spiral shaft. I see other dotters using a big fat magenta one but it looks too big of grip. Omg Darlene I’m Goldilocks 😂😂😂😂 My smallest stylus is a .8… I want even smaller. What do you use?

So glad you used the Happy Dotting Company tools as they are what I use. They're expensive tools but well worth the price. When I first got these tools I got a black piece of construction paper and dipped each tool in paint and dotted the paper so I had a reference of what each size dot looked like and it really helps.

It’s nice going back to basics at times lol the picture has turned out wonderful.
These are the tools that I bought as well as the ones you have always used, I love the feel of the Dot tools the triangle makes it easy for me to hold as I have arthritis in my hands. As a child learning to write my Dad carved up a piece of wood to fit my fountain pen and because of this my writing improved 100% so when I found the Dot tools I knew I just had to buy them. All my paint brushes are also shaped this way as well, found them years ago and now they are my go to brushes. The triangle feels natural between the thumb and two fingers so much so that you’re hand is not gripping them tight like one does with the round shaped tools. Your hand is much more relaxed because of this and hence your hands do not suffer from cramping over extended use and time.
As an oil painter I have always mixed my own colours, this carried through when I switched to Folk art painting and then into using acrylics it was a huge learning curve as acrylics dry so much faster than oils, thankfully there were products on the market to help me with slowing up the drying times of acrylics.
It’s nice having so many ready made colours but they take up so much space and don’t always get used. I’m thankful that l learnt to mix colours because it’s something that will always stay with you. It’s like when Dad I were painting the house non of the paint companies had the shade of blue that I wanted for the house so I had to buy sample pots and mix my own shade up, once Dad and I found the exact shade we wanted we then made two more from that shade in half shade darker for the trims and one at 1/4 light shade for the eaves. The paint company had the thing where they were able to scan my sample pieces and produced a mix chart for all three of them. So we now have a pretty blue house on the outside lol
Mixing your own colours is a lot of fun, I find that this is the best part about painting the most.

Wow!! I love these stories. I totally understood what you meant about the triangular. That’s how I feel about smooth circular. It’s what I’m use to but I’m still going to try. I’m trying to mix a bit of color myself. I bet your blue house was super pretty. I could learn so much from practice. Last night I sat and mixed colors and painted without a camera. It was soooo relaxing. I need to do that more. The color I made was like a muted copper.. it was pretty cool. I’ll show it later. Hopefully I make some neat colors. Thank you for this comment. I love the conversation 🤗☕️☕️♥️

Good morning! Great project to work on symmetry. I love the simplicity of just dotting and those colors are luscious. Perfect for my Sunday morning cup o jo with Jadel. :-) My art goal for '24 is perfecting my brushwork. I recently got the same HDC tools. Lovely, my dear. I love The Happy Dotting Company tools. Such a great range of sizes. Now I need to buy the Liquitex iridescent medium. I prefer metallic paints, and I have a whole box full of gorgeous Arteza paints that need metallisizing (is that a word? Lol).

The box of Arteza paints I bought has 5 or 6 tubes of their metallics, and they are beautiful. The paints are creamy and highly pigmented, but they definitely need to be thinned for dotting. I've been testing some to see if I can get the ratio just right to create 3D dots and not have the center sink while drying. Rachel of The Dotting Center seems to be able to do it, so why can't I? 😂 Maybe I need to try a different brand of additive.
The Arteza paints make me want to get out my paintbrushes and canvases to paint landscapes and such, again. But, I prefer mandalas because it's a more meditative and less stressful process for me.
Go ahead and buy those Arteza metallic. It'll make a great video when you test them.

@casalindaphoto LOL, you’re a good/bad influence on me 😂 depending on how u look at it. It seems like every time I see a mandala with really vibrant colors in it and I ask the brand? The answer is Arteza. Ugh.. I’m gonna wind up buying them. LOL, after I recoup from Christmas shopping of course.

Beautiful work. Thanks for the info on the iridescent medium!! I have been using the HDC tools right from the beginning of my dot painting, so the grip is easy for me. With the elliptical tool, I have found if you gently rock it back and forth it makes a great “dot”.

    • @JaDeLRocks

Wonderful! I can’t wait to try although I’ll have to. Our temps are so cold and it’s unusual. I’m struggling to keep it warm in here. Or warm enough to paint at least. Ugh, come on summer 😂😂😂. That grip was odd for me because the numbers printed on one side HDC on another and the last was plain. How weird that my fingers noticed. I’m use to smooth and round so it felt like something was on my tool and for whatever reason I found myself gripping it very tight which is bad for my hands. It’ll take getting use to. Last night I tried the .5 and loved those tiny consistent dots. I’ll definitely use these too. Stay warm ♥️
